32: FALLING STAR
"This is our 3rd pedestal Eleo-ssu, three more to go," I announced once I have activated the cannon-like machinery in this tower.
Eleo seemed bothered by something as he continued to search the area for the blue figure that kept appearing in our scanner which always led us to one of the towers. He looked back at me with a disgruntled expression before nodding, closing the front surface of his helmet and uttering a low "Alright, let's move."
We went back to the intersection of the towers and waited for the appearance of the blue figure which came out of nowhere in one of the first level of the towers. Compared to our previous chases, Eleo and I were more lax seeing that we were already guided by the figure but instead of following the blue figure, Eleo turned the other way.
"This isn't where we should go Eleo-ssu!" I reminded him.
"I just want to confirm something," Eleo replied.
I followed after Eleo and thought deeply about his purpose. We got into the peak of the tower and still found no one there. The counterclockwise pattern that the blue figure was showing us was consistent and I think if we ruined that pattern by activating this one which I would suspect as being the last tower that we should go in, it would ruin our progress.
"Try this one Aecha," Eleo muttered. "If my gut feeling is right...those figures were already preset."
I must always trust that gut feeling. Eleo had a lot of gut feelings.
"Are you sure about this?" I asked. It was not that I did not trust him but, I did not wish to restart everything from scratch.
"It wouldn't hurt to try right? Whenever I want to know a story, I would want to know the end before discovering the events during the start and middle. I'm impatient."
I pursed my lips and just agreed to do what Eleo wished and walked towards the pedestal. Before I could press my hand on the surface of the pedestal, Eleo grabbed my wrist and placed a cube on my palm. The front of his helmet became transparent so that I can see his expression and then smiled at me.
"That will become handy in the near future. Keep it safe," he murmured.
I deposited the palm size cube into my storage crate and nodded at him. "Thank you, I will put it to good use whatever it is," I replied and turned back to the target at hand. I pressed my hand on the surface and the same light tracing down the top of the pedestal ignited and activated the machinery. Once that was done, my ticker almost forgot to spin when Eleo appeared beside me and repelled the slicer that could have potentially harmed my body.
An aechean wearing the same armor like us while he sported the same Necron mask that Eleo once worn had half of his body protruding out of a wall. He slowly started to push himself out of the grasp of the wall until his feet were settled on the floor. The slicer returned to his grasp before throwing it again and having another weapon materialize in his grasp. His sword looked feathery with its soft characteristics. The blade of his sword was shaped into a stem growing out another part of the stem until it ended into a sharp tip. The cross-guard of the sword which connected the blade and the handle had a unique design. Half of it can be described to have grass-like features growing horizontally while the other half had feather-like curvatures. There was also a light pink gem placed in the middle of the cross-guard with the very base of the sword shaped into a pink diamond.
Once Eleo caught sight of the sword he suddenly became appalled. "You have got to be kidding me..." Eleo murmured before hitting the slicer to the side and not towards our opponent.
If those blue figures were already preset then it would mean that this aechean was waiting for us to arrive here to activate this tower where he was waiting so that he can ambush us after we did our part. There wasn't really a pattern. He just wanted to make sure that we activated all of the towers.
"Stay back Aecha, he's dangerous," Eleo warned. "But something tells me that his actions are only triggered due to being pre-programmed. He wouldn't attack us if he knew that some towers were left untouched by you specifically."
"Do-do you know who he is?" I asked, Eleo worked under Seven so there was a great chance that he worked with this person before.
"I don't want to jump into conclusions. I want to remove that mask first," he told me.
Eleo waited for the masked individual to charge ahead with his sword in hand. The contrast between Eleo's sword and his sword was really big. My companion's sword seemed to have the capability to torture even the most unfeeling creature and guide the world into its demise while our opponent's sword seemed to have the capability to cure the world of its misery much like a hero's blade and lead the quest to salvation.
Their swords met and Eleo caught the slicer in which he hit to the side before using it against the masked man. While they were on a heated battle, I stood at the corner of this area and contemplated whether I should help or not. Eleo had a far greater experience than me and if I would intervene, I was afraid that I would only stand on his way and he would only end up saving me each time our opponent's fluffy-looking sword was pointed towards me.
Our enemy slid his sword up and guided Eleo's blade to point upwards before jumping and kicking Eleo's chest with both of his feet. Eleo's back hit the wall and threw the slicer towards our enemy who easily caught it causing Eleo to chuckle with annoyance.
"This is the reason why I hate slicers. They're boomerangs not weapons!" he snarled. The thrown and caught slicer was sent flying back into Eleo who rolled against the wall and let the slicer get stuck against the partition.
I watched in awe as Eleo swayed his blade from side to side before charging ahead and inundating him with firm strikes of blade from above. With one swift movement he squatted down and spun his body around with one of his feet and with one of his legs extended in attempt to knock off the enemy.
The masked man was knocked back but before he could land on the floor he turned his body around to face the ground. He nimbly kicked Eleo's face using both feet before having his hands land on the floor and gracefully flipping into a standing position using the strength of his arms.
"Um...Do you wish for help? And I am very much glade to see your amusement," I commented when I noticed Eleo's grin through the transparent part of his helmet.
"Hey Aecha, can you do me a favor?" he asked me.
My mood brightened up when I heard of a request from him. "It would be my pleasure to do something for you," I told him.
"That's the spirit of an Ecgtheow child!" Eleo cheered before thrusting his sword on the floor and charging ahead to the standing masked man who was now in a position of anticipation.
Instead of attacking him like I expected him to do, Eleo caught the man's wrists and bent one arm to the back before holding the man against his chest. Eleo's sword which was jabbed on the ground released a red glow and grew out thin lines of branches which sealed our enemy's feet on the ground.
"I have so much favors you know? First favor: take his mask off for me will you?" he requested.
I nodded my head in compliance and jogged in front of them. The masked aechean was caught in a tight grip but I did not think that Eleo can hold that position for long since our opponent was clever. I gently removed the mask of the man with a cheery resolve but my eyes widened in complete shock from this unexpected meeting. Judging from my expression, Eleo's face softened even more.
"It's him isn't it?" Eleo asked me. His eyes were beginning to get teary as he inched his nose close to the man's pink hair and took a long sniff.
My hand slowly reached towards his face and I could feel my chin tremble a bit from the emotional stress I was going through. The optimistic face that I imagined him to have was different from the reality that was presented to me. I was ecstatic to finally meet him but not in a way wherein he was being used against the will that he had possessed during his lifetime.
For the first time in my entire life I felt this swirl of bubbling heat rising within my body. "Is there a way to bring him back?" I asked. Eleo leaned his head against my brother's shoulder.
"I'll have to find out...for now, I have to incapacitate him. Aecha, you have to go on without me. Your brother was programmed by Seven to assassinate you after activating this tower which only means that he wants to prevent you from reaching the same thing that he's aiming for. Whatever happens, you must do something to pull the victory to your lane. I know there's a chance for you to end this. You can free all of us. I believe in you and I bet all my creds that your brother still believed in you too."
I gazed at my brother's face and felt the twist in my ticker from his stoic expression. His words were still engraved in my mind and ticker.
"You go save the world. Put an end to this."
"Please take care of him..." I murmured as I started to walk back. "And please take care of yourself too," I murmured.
"You can depend on me," Eleo responded. "Go save the world."
I turned around and ran outside of the room. I stood still for a moment to collect my thoughts and heard Eleo say something to Laechea in a tone of complete softness and adoration.
"I never got the chance to respond back at that time when you can still hear me but...I hope you can now. This bomb in my chest only ticks for you...I love you too you stupid idiot..."
I won't let you down. I will make sure that the both of you will live in a world which did not require you to risk your lives anymore. Both of you will get the reward for you heroic acts and for you compassion for planet Aecha.
Planet Aecha shall be a world for those who need to be mended and for those needing a home.
I continued our mission on my own with a strong will and determination. Exhaustion never hit my body and never did I think of spending a minute to rest.
Every minute counted at this point in time because even Seven went overboard. He should not have disturbed the dead and for all his misdeeds, I will also never allow him to rest. My brother did not deserve to be used like that neither did Eleo. They were already contented as it was.
How...could he?
I slammed my hand on the last surface of the pedestal and watched as the last machinery rose up to the window. Once all of the cannons were in position, the tower I was in trembled tremendously and a loud and explosion occurred.
I used all my strength in my fist and hit a wall to allow me to see what was really happening outside. Once I have damaged the wall, I was faced with the center of the tower transforming into something which seemed to be restraining bars for Necron who was slowly rising up from Seven's laboratory. The center tower became long moving legs of what seemed to be an arachnoid (spider). The arched barrier from before was where the powerful energy beams from the cannons were being sent to. It was floating above Necron who was now currently opening his jaw towards it. Necron's upper body with a height of fifty feet tall was completely wrapped with luminescent ropes preventing movement.
I need to get there.
I saw Seven's form appear from behind Necron as he rose using a pressurized board. I saw KiKi and Bishwye roaming around Necron. I let out a whistle to catch their attention but the both of them were focused on Necron.
Anxiety rose within my chest along with panic as I continued with my attempts to catch their attention.
And then a sudden frustration hit me when Seven jumped inside Necron's opened mouth which caused me to growl really loud and menacingly which was definitely not possible with my voice.
KiKi's eyes snapped towards me while Bishwye stayed with a dismissing attitude. KiKi flew towards me and I have jumped on his back with satisfaction. I gave KiKi a pet on the head before pointing at Necron for instructions. KiKi flew towards my desired destination and I shouted Seven's name. Necron continued to open his jaw towards the barrier which was being fueled by the cannons that I activated. He was attracted to it...but why?
Necron's daze was disrupted with a cough and he vomited whatever was in his stomach contents before emitting a piercing and angered growl followed by a purple aura which started to paint the bright skies with a grim color of dark lavender.
His vomitus poured over the intersection of towers and in some parts of ocean water which initiated the contamination of the ocean filled with dead oceanic creatures. The scent of rot can be strongly smelled and fear erupted in my chest.
"I have to stop this..." I whispered in horror.
After puking, Necron returned into his dazed state and he opened his jaw once more. That barrier had something which was being provided by those towers. Seven made me activate them and Necron was interested in those beams...
Was it possible that those beams mimicked my life force which was garnering Necron's interest?
"My Lord, why do you reject me? I only want us to united! I AM YOUR HUMBLE SERVANT!" I heard Seven scream from below which caught my attention.
Bishwye let out a menacing snarl and soared down towards the puked Seven before getting slapped away by a tail which abruptly grew from the scientist who was covered by black stomach contents.
"My Lord!" Seven gasped in joy. "You...have blessed me with power! So much power!" Seven yelled in happiness. His voice was beginning to get twisted into a distorted low tone. I covered KiKi's eyes as Seven's transformation occurred.
Seven turned to his back and his arms twisted and elongated. He grew out two more arms and two more deformed legs which were spider-like in nature and his face split open into two divided parts with short tentacles swishing in the crevice. The tail that slapped Bishwye was located on his abdomen. It was a slimy and spiky tail.
"Oh dear..." I whispered in terror when the fully transformed Seven leaped up and shot a string of dark sticky web towards us.
KiKi blew out a hurl of fire towards the incoming web—much to my surprise— and flew away. KiKi's fire did not stand a chance against the strong web which still managed to pierce through the huge wall of conflagration. Another web was shot and this time it was against Necron body. Seven pulled himself towards Necron and then used Necron as a pathway to get to us.
The sky was getting darker and the world was getting dimmer from the vast amount of power that Necron's presence alone possessed. If I don't hurry up, the world will be consumed by rot.
I can't deal with Seven now.
"Please move KiKi!" I ordered when Seven leaped off of Necron to pounce on us.
A blazing tornado twirling horizontally was seen in my periphery coming from our left which then took Seven soaring back to the base of the tower. When the blaze shrunk down towards the cause of such tremendous force, happiness swelled inside of me.
"Gilmos-ssu!" I yelled in joy.
Gilmos gave me a flash of smirk before giving me a salute. He was wearing a red armor which seemed to be electric proof as well. That was a relief. I didn't want him to be electrocuted to death after just dying from getting a bullet through his head.
"Hey lowlife!" Saek-ssu called out. I looked to my left and found Gilmos-ssu's whole group riding a pressurized board. "Leave that deformed manure to us."
I placed my hand over my chest from the feeling of gratefulness and then gave them a nod. I ordered KiKi to take me on top of Necron's face and once my feet were placed on the fallen God's cheeks, I peered down to see their status.
I was anxious. I had no idea of what was in stored for me inside Necron's belly but unlike my brothers...
I know that I wasn't just a mere snack.
Gilmos must have seen me in the same state like my brothers and he grew out blazing wings before flying towards me. He left the rampaging Seven on the hands of his other group members and landed in front of me with a worried gaze.
"Is there no other choice?" he asked.
"Though the method is the same as the previous one, the result will turn out differently now Gilmos-ssu," I assured him.
Gilmos's lips had a sad smile on it. I petted KiKi's head and then sat on the edge of Necron's bottom lip. His teeth...I could feel them on my legs. I closed my eyes and prepared myself for the dive which will decide everyone's fate.
I need courage but if I ask Gilmos to utter a speech of inspiration to build up my confidence, I think I might break down into pathetic sobs because of the beauty of his words.
"As the President of the Paragons, as the lead protector of this planet and as the third nurturer of our world, I pronounce you as a Paragonian. Kaisen be with you..." Gilmos whispered as I felt him embrace me from behind.
A smile sneaked its way on my lips and a sudden burst of bravery erupted within me. Everyone was relying on me and that reliance was what I will use for strength because I know that they will always be there for me and as a Paragon it was my responsibility to be a Good Samaritan.
This will not be the last time I will see Gilmos and the others. I will return to planet Aecha and I will welcome its fresh breeze. I will greet each and every one of its citizens and I will embrace each and every one of Team Ske even if I already expect Ki's painful reprimanding.
I will do anything to paint smiles on their faces again because I was not merely born to save planet Aecha; I was born to make choices and to live. I blame no one for how I will end up.
Planet Aecha was my home. This was a beautiful world filled with beautiful people and other creatures. We were loved and protected by our creator and I will never forget the sweet scent that this world had from the moment I was born from my tree.
I held Gilmos-ssu's hand tightly as if I was collecting his valor. I have so many things to experience but...I was ready to explore on my own.
I think I will be okay...
I let go of Gilmos's hand and formed a fist with it. I straightened my posture and hit my chest with my fist.
I will welcome this end with open arms and with a smile of courage because I know that there will be another beginning.
"Kaisen is here!" I saluted before jumping inside and squeezing myself down inside Necron's throat.
The darkness of the environment and the slimy and growling sounds coming from Necron did not bother me the slightest. I know that he was in pain and I know how much he wanted to be forgiven for the mistakes that he had done. He deserved a chance to live a life in a way that will make him happy. No one deserved to suffer.
The warmth in my chest spread throughout my body and even with the darkness inside of Necron's body, a flash of events occurred in front of me. They were vague and broken and all I saw were numerous bodies being guided inside a portal by a built man wearing nothing but a leaf on his crotch. I could not see his head at all even when I was slowly approaching this swirling blue portal leading to an unknown destination.
"Leaving this world is painful...but we must persevere..." The one leading them spoke. "We Aishahs and with a few Dearils will find a new home. Ecgtheow has entrusted me to guide you."
A swarm of whispers filled my hearing and once my head went past through the blue portal I could feel the immense heat swallowing every inch of my body which went to the other side. I couldn't see anything. It was so bright.
"I am sorry Ecgtheow...I was not able to guide your children back to you..." the man uttered in a melancholic way using his deep and smooth voice.
It was so humid inside this suit.
Why do I feel like I was falling?
A powerful impact shocked my whole system after the sudden stop of my fall because indeed...I have landed in the most ungraceful way.
"I say we kill it," I heard someone spoke after a few moments of silence after an explosion of an impact.
"Do you kill everything with a heart beat?" I heard a voice— which was almost identical to it but much calmer— argued.
"Then check if he has one! If he doesn't have one then I'm going to kill the threat!" the first one pointed back.
"Not so fast, we don't know who he is and what he is and what his status is. If Lucian says we'll help him, we will," a new voice suggested. With the mention of the core's name, hope shed light to me once more. "If he doesn't have a heart beat then what's there to kill you brainless reptile?"
I felt them remove my helmet but my system was still in a shock from the harsh impact to the ground which prevented me from even opening my eyes. My whole body was paralyzed.
"I will call him Pinky...His hair looks delicious..." a recognizable monotone voice spoke which ensured me of a bright future for planet Aecha.
I did it...
System shutting down....
