fifty-one.

The sound of the bedroom door closing is what woke June March up, the girl being pulled from her rest. The last remnants of sleep were fleeting and she saw a final image of what she had been dreaming about:
JJ Maybank. The thought of him pulled her the rest of the way from her slumber and she shifted on the bed, realizing it was empty. Her eyes slowly opened and she glanced at the clock, a groan leaving her lips as she saw the numbers on it.

5:24 am.

"Fuck." She whispered as she stretched, the girl not quite surprised that he was no longer there. At the thought of him she remembered what they had done the night before, a tingling sensation spreading through her thighs as she scratched at an itchy spot on her stomach. Although she had been drunk, it was a night she was sure she would never forget. The best sex she had ever had, due to the fact that the tension between them had contributed heavily to the quality.

She turned over in the bed with a small smile on her lips, the girl laying n her back as she let out a dreamy laugh. She was inebriated by the thought of him, shutting out all the negative feelings and instead focusing on the fun they had had. She knew this would obviously lead to a serious and potentially hurtful conversation later, but at least she could survive the next few days making him work to get her back because she wasn't aching for him as much. She shook her head at that thought, wondering if that made her a bad person. She considered just forgiving him fully, she loved him and he loved—there it was. The problem. Not only did she not know where his true feelings lie, she had done something rather incriminating while they had been broken up.

The thought of Kiara and JJ made her stomach turn, and she could feel the envy flood her veins. Kiara was everything June wasn't...considerate, hard-headed, honest. She had known JJ for years and years, Junes few months had nothing on her. She hated the way she felt like the other woman in her own relationship, and she hated she couldn't just let it go. But then she thought of how Kiara had offered her life for a chance at freedom, and she remembered exactly why she couldn't let it go. Hatred burned hot in her chest and she let out a breath, her jaw clenching as she thought of the girl.

She looked around the room and her eyes stopped on the vanity, June immediately feeling a rush of dread when she saw that stupid fucking plant on her table.  That was what she had done. Although it had just been a kiss, a means to an end because she thought he was doing her a favor, it had still meant something. And not only had it meant something, it had instilled a sense of hope in the Cameron boy that she knew she shouldn't have given him.

At the thought of Rafe she groaned, a wave of pain washing through her head, brought on by a hangover and by the thought of him. She turned over onto her side, closing her eyes again and trying to forget about the fact that she had to see him today.

Tomorrow at 8.

Unfortunately tomorrow was today now, and she knew she couldn't miss, because there was no would be able to overcome her innate sense of curiosity. He had offered her a reward for not killing him, she wasn't sure if she would take to yet...but she wanted to know what the terms were. It was called interest.

June pulled the blanket back up and over her shoulders, refusing to not take advantage of the fact the house was empty and she was tired. She closed her eyes and banished every thought of Rafe from her head, only letting herself think of JJ every few minutes so as not to miss him too much.

June awoke to a gentle clattering noise the second time she had woken up this morning. She shifted in bed, the girl sprawled out on her stomach with the blankets only halfway on her legs at this point. This sleep had been needed, and she was angered by the fact that she wouldn't be able to continue it.

There was the sound of a door closing and she let out a breath through her nose, her eyes fighting to open. The sun shined bright against her tanned skin and she felt normal for just a moment, like it was just another day. But today was not just another day, which was soon to be proven.

She slowly moved her legs, dragging the lower half of her body across the sheets. If it weren't for the pressure on her bladder she would have went back to sleep, but she knew she wouldn't be able to unless she went. She slid her body off of the bed, mumbling about being tired as her top half hit the floor. She groaned, pushing herself slowly but surely off of the floor. Her eyes were squinted so tight that they didn't even look open, her left eye refusing to stay open for too long. She walked towards the door slowly, stumbling sleepily into the hallway and towards the bathroom.

The advantage of being home alone meant she could  walk around however she liked, her outfit right now consisting of a t-shirt a pair of underwear. She pushed the bathroom door open and managed to get inside, the girl leaning against the bathroom countertop. She pulled her eyelids open, looking up at the image in the mirror. She hated to say that even while looking a complete mess, she had that glow about her.  She wanted to roll her eyes but she was too tired, the girl using the bathroom as quickly as possible. She washed her hands after, the taste in her mouth becoming clear as she started towards the door. She groaned, turning back around and heading for her toothbrush.

After brushing her teeth she started back down the hallway, her bedroom door ajar. She yawned as she walked inside, sitting in the foot of her bed and facing the vanity. She was considering whether or not she should sleep again, her eyes scanning absentmindedly across the vanity top. The sun gleamed through the window and she saw a glistening beside the plant, her eyebrows furrowing together in confusion as she wondered what was making that light. She sat up a little further , gold reflecting into her ceiling and making her furrow her eyebrows. Her eyes slowly widened as she looked at the gold reflecting, June pushing herself up from the bed, now pretty awake. When it came into view she gasped, her mouth dropping open as she saw what was sitting on the vanity.

The medallion.

Beside it was a note, June reaching out for the paper and quickly reading across the letters.

A peace offering.

Her heart dropped to her feet and she felt sick, the girl realizing someone other than JJ had been in here since she had been asleep. She let out a gasp and looked around in confusion, the girl turning her head immediately towards the window. To her absolute horror she found that the window was cracked, a breeze flowing through it and making a chill go down her spine.

She dropped the slip of paper, running towards her window and quickly closing it. She locked it, heavy breaths coming from her lips as she drew her curtains. She turned back around to look at the vanity and she froze, not knowing how to proceed. She had no idea who it could possibly be, no clue at all.  Her first assumption was Hardy, but if he had the medallion he had no reason to give it to her. Singh wouldn't give it to her. Nobody else knew about the medallion other than Zach, Tyler, and....Rafe.

June swallowed, a wave of rage washing over her as she looked at the slip of paper in the floor. She hurried towards it, gathering herself and holding it up. She searched across the desktop for Rafes note but remembered she had ripped it in half, her breath coming out in gasps as she felt panicked. Her fear was rooted in the fact that someone was breaking into her house. It was then that she remembered all of the pictures Leon had taken, her heart pounding as she felt a new type of paranoia. She hadn't necessarily had the time to react to the fact that he had been watching her for a long time, this revelation making her want to throw up. She felt terrorized, wondering what she did to deserve all of these terrible things.

She pulled the ripped paper from the trash, holding them up together and then looking at the new paper. The handwriting looked nearly the same, June squeezing her eyes shut for a second and gritting her teeth. She pushed herself up from the floor, grabbing the medallion from the top. She hadn't looked at it yet and she knew she didn't have the time to, the girl walking towards her closet to hide it. She then proceeded to pull some clothes on, pushing the gun into the waistband of her jeans, glad that Rafe has given it back.

Speaking of him she knew she needed to go see him now. Their meeting time would have to be pushed up. 8 o'clock would have to wait.
