Rafe Cameron stood on the front porch of June Marchs house, heavy breaths falling from his lips and his thoughts definitely not in the correct place. He had almost killed his father not even an hour before, and he only knew one person he could confide in, one person who might give him the time of day, might tell him what he needed to do. He was going to her now.
He was sweating profusely, thinking in his head that he probably looked absolutely insane. He ran a hand over his head as he tried to gather how he had even gotten her...he wasn't entirely sure when he had made the conscious decision to show up. Then he realized he hadn't made the decision consciously, his body had brought him here itself.
He clearly must've been out of his mind if he was showing up on the Marchs doorstep, ringing the doorbell like he wasn't enemy number one around here. However her looked down at his arm and he had his finger pressed to the doorbell, and he was ringing it. He lowered his hand with a shaky breath, thinking about how badly he wanted to see her, to speak to her. She would know exactly what to tell him. She always seemed to know what he needed to hear. That was another thing he loved about her.
He reached for the door handle and much to his surprise it actually was unlocked, his state of mind leading him into the house. He didn't even bother to try and check for anyone here, he figured it would be best if no one knew he was here, he could just sneak upstairs and meet her in there and everything would be fine. She was an understanding girl, she was fantastic at listening, everything would be fine. He started up the stairs and immediately just opened her bedroom door, his lips turned down into a frown as he felt his body shaking with the anticipation of her calming presence.
However when he stepped inside he was immediately informed that she wasn't there. His face fell even more somehow and he turned, starting back out into the hallway. He searched the house for a few minutes and was alarmed by the fact that it was completely empty, thoughts of his father seeming to slowly fade away by the minute. His worry was clouding his terrible thoughts and before he knew it he was back in her room, sitting on the edge of her bed and trying to remember everything she had said to him yesterday. All the shit where she had accused him of breaking into her house, a second time at least. His face scrunched up and he immediately felt his body tense up. He knew there was a possibility she was just out, that she was with the Pogues, but his gut was telling him something was wrong, something more was going on.
He looked around the room, his hands clasped in front of his mouth. His eyes stopped on her vanity, the boy seeing something that made his stomach churn. He stood from the bed, walking towards the flower he had given her. Behind it was an old picture, easily recognizable to him. It was a picture of the two of them from a long time again, the boy pulling it from where it was propped up against the mirror. He looked down at it with glazed over eyes, thinking of simpler times when they were happy. Thoughts of his father were nonexistent now, Rafe starring down at the picture with a fixed gaze.
A small chiming noise pulled him from his thoughts, his head turning to look at where it had come from. He turned around, unable to locate where the chime had come from. He got a relatively smart idea, pulling his phone out of his back pocket and pulling up her contact. He quickly called it, his stomach dropping when he heard a ringing noise. He followed the noise to the edge of her bed, the boy leaning down in front of it and reaching to find it. His fingers skated across the carpet for a few moments before they met metal, the vibrating in his hand stopping as the call went to voicemail. He pulled the phone from under the bed, the boy swallowing as he looked down at it. This definitely didn't make him feel better about this. Why would her phone be under the bed, why wouldn't she have it? Something was going on here. He pushed himself up from the floor, looking around the room now with a different gaze. He needed to find some clue as to where she was.
His eyes stopped on her laptop, sitting open and the screen off. His eyebrows furrowed as he started over to it, his head tilting as he ran his fingertips over the keypad. The screen clicked on, his eyes reading over the words on the website. It was flight information, a booked flight to Italy, it had taken off at 8 am...it was now 10. His heart stopped for a moment and he almost felt sick, realizing quickly what had happened here. She had ran away.
But if she had run away why would she leave her phone under the bed?
He started towards her dresser, pulling open the top drawer and seeing that almost all of her clothes were missing from it. He was so distracted by all of this that he didn't hear the shouts from downstairs, he didn't comprehend that someone else was now entering the home. He pulled out every single drawer, searching for one specific item. His eyes narrowed when he found it, Rafe pulling out a t-shirt, his eyes widening as he looked down at it.
"What the fuck are you doing here?" The voice caught the Cameron boy off guard, his head turning immediately as he held the shirt in his fist. His face went slack when he saw JJ Maybank standing in the doorway of Junes bedroom, Rafe immediately seeing the rage in his eyes.
JJ shot across the room, pushing Rafe against the dresser and grabbing him by the collar. Rafe didn't answer quick enough for JJ , the blondes teeth gritting as he held the older boy against the dresser.
"Did you hear me you piece of shit?! What are you doing here?!" Rafe finally came to, pushing JJ back and shaking his head. He let out a humorless chuckle, shaking his head at the younger boy and shrugging.
"Didn't know I needed your permission." JJ was quick to get up, his eyes wide as he looked at Rafe Cameron, the man he had been waiting to come face to face with for months. He had dreamt about this moment, beating the shit out of him,and now finding him snooping around Junes bedroom? It was almost like it was being handed to him on a platter. "Oh wait...I don't. Because you guys broke up, and if I want to be here I can."
"Shut your mouth man. You better—you got 2 seconds to tell me what the hell you're doing here and where June is or I'm going to—"
"Wait wait...shes not with you?" Rafes last option for where she could be was now concaving, his eyes slightly widening as he realized what this could mean. If she wasn't with them, she was gone. But he had serious reason to believe she wasn't on that flight. Mainly because of this shirt that he was holding in his hands.
"No...no she's not with—is she not here?"
"No she's not here. I...I came here looking for her and the door was unlocked and I walked up here and she's nowhere in the house and then I—her phone was under the bed and the computer. The computer said she booked a flight for this morning 8am but I don't think...I don't think she was on that flight because her stuff is packed but a few things and this shirt...she wouldn't leave without this shirt. And yesterday she was talking about how she was scared and she thought I broke into her house and—"
"You saw her yesterday?" JJ figured now wasnt the time to be angry about this, his entire body tense as he looked at Rafe. If he wasn't making a valid point he was sure he would've attempted to kill him by now, but his genuine worry was stalling the inevitable.
"She came by the house. But see I don't think she would've just up and flown off to Italy. Not without this." Rafe held the shirt up now, showing it to JJ. He seemed like he expected JJ to know what the shirt was, what the significance of it was but he had no idea, JJ narrowing his eyes as he studied the print on the front of it.
"Okay why? Why wouldn't she leave without the shirt?" The Cameron boy faltered, genuinely surprised by the fact that he didn't know. He lowered the shirt now, his worry clouding all of his hatred for JJ.
"It was...it was her grandpas. She takes it on like every vacation, every trip, she would never leave it. He gave it to her before he died. She wouldn't leave it." Rafes eyes held a neurotic look in them, JJ feeling his entire body fill with uncertainty and some more concern. Not only was he irritated by the fact that he didn't know that and Rafe did, but he was irritated by the fact that he wasn't beating Rafe up right now. However it appeared that June was missing at the moment, meaning he needed to hold off if Rafe was the only person who could possibly help.
They stood at a standstill for a few moments, JJ breaking first and letting out a heavy sigh. He pinched the bridge of his nose, feeling stress beyond belief as he shook his head and looked back up.
"So what's this mean?"
"Something happened. Somebody took her or—" JJ laughed out loud, not being able to look at the Cameron boy as he spoke. He took a step towards him, pointing in his direction and speaking for himself.
"Someone took her? Somebody took her?! Well it wasn't me...and it wasn't you this time...so who the hell took her?!" Rafe wanted to punch JJ in the mouth at the snide comment, but the sick feeling in his stomach kept him from doing it. That and the fact that he was trying so desperately to be on Junes good side, and beating her most recent ex boyfriend to death probably wouldn't put him there.
"I don't know. I don't know! Aren't you the one who's supposed to know this shit?! Shouldn't you know where she's been?" Rafe shook his head as he gestured towards JJ, the temperature rising ing the room as they both held back what they really wanted to do. "Oh wait...I forgot you don't give a shit. Clearly! Since she showed up beat to shit a few days ago and—"
"You shut your mouth! Now is not the time okay? Where did she...what did she say when she came by your house?"
"She was accusing me of writing some note and leaving it on the desk. Something about some medallion and she said someone was in the house and—"
"She told me last night that someone was breaking into the house. She told me that. But the medallion thing...she mentioned it but I have no clue what that means." Rafes face went slack as he put some kind of puzzle piece together in his brain, his lips parting as he considered telling JJ what his working theory was. He figured he had to, considering the Maybank boy could possibly fill in some empty pieces of the puzzle.
"In Barbados, when Singh had us...he took Juan aside separately. She wouldn't tell us what he wanted but I knew it was serious. And I didn't get the chance to ask her because of all the shit that went down with Kie but I...maybe there was some medallion that he needed. Maybe Singh—"
"Wait wait...what thing with Kie?"
"She didn't tell you?" Rafe shook his head, adjusting his stance as JJ prepares to be reinforced in the fact of Kiaras betrayal. "The part where she sold us out for her own freedom and then it backfired and we all had to escape together?"
"Oh I actually did—I did know that."
"Yeah okay. So this has something to do with Singh? Something to do with—"
"El Dorado." JJs eyes widened as he made a connection in his head, looking at Rafe with wide eyes. He narrowed them and then shot forwards, ripping Junes phone off of the vanity top and then immediately taking off out of the room, trying to get a head start out of the house.
"Hey! Hey! Where are you going?!" Rafe yelled, taking off after JJ. The blonde knew if something was wrong, he needed to find June before Rafe. Meaning he didn't need to give away his best lead.
John B fiddled with the radio, his fingers turning the dial as he stared down at the buttons. JJ had been taking a long time, John B figuring maybe things had gone really well with June.
"Start the car! Start the car!" The sound of shouting made John Bs head turn, his eyes widening as he saw JJ sprinting across Junes front yard. He took only a second to be shocked before he turned the van back on, JJ sprinting around the side and jumping through the window. "Go! What are you waiting for?! Go!"
John B looked at him in shock, his foot pressing the gas just as a shout sounded from the front yard. His eyes widened when they landed on Rafe, JJ getting into his seat correctly and fixing his hat.
"This isn't over! I'll find you!"
