| i. THE HURRICANE

"Did you guys hear about Agatha?"

"Who's Agatha?" JJ asked while stuffing his mouth with a sandwich, that was probably made from John B's mouldy bread.

Victoria rolled her eyes and sighed. "It's a hurricane, you dumbass." She mumbled and grabbed a remote from JB's bed. She turned on the TV, but all channels were talking about the same - the hurricane. "I better be going, I need to clean up the house."

The blonde lifted his head up from the pillow he was lying on. "There's nothin' to clean up there."

"I know, but I promised my dad that I would." She shrugged her shoulders and gathered a few of her things, waving at The Pouges as they wave back at her. The girl stepped out of John B's house and headed back to her father.

After few minutes of walking, she finally stopped in front of a white house. The girl turned the knob and walked in, the smell of cigarettes filling her nostrils. A man with beard and black hair was sitting on the couch, watching TV. She smiled slightly and touched the man's shoulder.

He turned his body around so he could face her. "Hey buttercup, are you hungry?" The man flashed her a smile, while standing up from the couch.

"Hell yeah, what'd you make?" She followed him to the kitchen.

Victoria had a great relationship with her father, since her mother moved out, they were inseparable. The man worked as a car mechanic, so he usually would be at home, but he had also a part-time job at The Figure Eight as a gardener. The Kooks would pay him that amount of money he needed to pay the bills and buy some food.

"Alright, you eat and I'll get ready." The man said and walked away, before the girl had to say anything.

She was confused. Where her father was going? Why was he leaving if there's a hurricane coming? The girl furrowed her eyebrows and without even hesitating left the plate on the table and hurried to her father's room.

"Dad, where are you going?" Victoria questioned with a confused face expression.

The man sighed and stepped closer to his daughter. "I'm going to work." He simply stated.

"There's a hurricane coming and you want to go and work? And clean up after Kooks?" She raised her eyebrows, slightly annoyed at the man.

"Sweetheart... I got another job, but it's far from there, so I'll be gone for two months only."

Two months?

How was she supposed to live by herself now? The girl wasn't ready for leaving her father, even if it was two months.

She cleared her throat. "Uh, yeah... You should get going, 'wouldn't want you to catch the hurricane." The girl nodded and hugged her father.

"C'mon!" She grunted as she tried to close the window that was currently allowing a ton of rain into the house. It just wasn't budging. Her legs were already wet from the rain that was pouring. The water caused her fingers to slip on the wood and suddenly, the window slid down into it's place - a loud bang echoing through the house.

The girl was expecting the storm, but not this soon. It definitely started a lot earlier than anyone predicted. She was just hoping her father would be safe.

A flash of light followed by a loud crack flooded the house, she nearly slipped on the wet floor at the sight and sound of it. She made her way over to the couch and grabbed a blanket, wrapping it around herself to keep her warm.

Now that the power was out, she couldn't turn on the TV or text her friends, so she decided to sleep it through. Anxiety creeped deeper into her mind as she wondered if her father made it through the storm.

Suddenly a several loud knocks echoed through the house. She furrowed her eyebrows and grabbing a hammer, she yanked the front door open.

"Vic! I'm so sorry to bother you, really I am, but can I-I come in?" JJ rambled while she stood there and stared at him, feeling like the air is being ripped from her lungs.

Besides the fact, he's drenched in rain, only wearing a t-shirt and shorts, there's a visible cut on his cheekbone and a few bruises going down his neck. She glanced down at his t-shirt, just to see blood splattered on the gray material. 'What the hell happened to him?' The girl wondered how he got there in one piece.

She quickly moved back and made room for the blonde to enter the house. The girl closed the door and grabbed a towel, before walking up to JJ, who was standing in the middle of the room. She handed him the towel, before she made her way to the kitchen to get the first aid kit. He begins to rub the towel in his hair, wanting to soak up as much of the rainwater as possible.

"Wait, how did you get here?" The girl asked with confusion written allover her face. "You didn't ride your bike here, right?"

He placed the towel on the couch and sat on it. "I ran all the way here."

"You ran all the way here?" She asked, not believing JJ's words.

"Well, yeah. The roads are complete crap so I couldn't use my bike." He stated simply and took off his hat, throwing it on the ground.

She let out a sigh, before squatting down in front of JJ and shining her flashlight in his face. As the light passed over his face, he squinted his eyes at the sudden brightness. She let her eyes travel across his face, taking in each mark. The girl couldn't even imagine the pain he had to go through.

Victoria tilted her head to the side. "I'm not going to ask you what happened, 'cause I know you won't tell me the truth." She said.

JJ came to her many times, beaten up to the point he had problems with breathing. He always gave her the same excuse 'Don't worry, it was just a fight.' The blonde had gotten in fights before, but he never came to her in that state. She was worried about him and it pained her when she saw his wounds.

He grabbed at the bottom of his shirt and lifted it. She moved her flashlight across his chest and she saw it. Across his chest, there are many yellow and green bruises, some look fresh while other seem to be more recent. The sight broke her heart.

"Oh god." She choked out, shocked.

Every time she patted the cotton pan with rubbing alcohol onto his cuts, JJ winced and flinched. She gave him a reassuring smile, suddenly feeling bad for him.  He was in unimaginable pain, but he still remained strong. He tried to protest, saying he'll heal on his own.

Once she finished cleaning JJ's cuts and smearing some cream on his bruises, she handed him some water and leftover food her father left. She took the flashlight and rushed to find some clothes for JJ. The girl grabbed a green t-shirt and black shorts, after that she headed over to the couch. She handed him her father's clothes, he immediately put them on.

Victoria sat on the couch and before she registered what was happening, JJ laid his head on her lap. He wrapped himself in another blanket and closed his eyes in hope of getting some sleep tonight. She smiled lightly and started to comb her fingers through the blonde's hair.

"Thank you for everythin', you're the best." He whispered, slowly falling asleep.

Even if JJ had nowhere else to go at that moment, she would always be there for him.
