Chapter 27
I slide my phone out of my pocket, and begin taking pictures of them. Most of them turn out really well, and I'm suddenly happy. Taking pictures makes me happy.
After the show and meet and greet, when we're on the bus, I show the guys. "Kiddo, you've for real talent!" Caleb exclaims. "Girl, these are awesome!" Chad agrees. "You should take photography lessons," Alan says. "Yeah, love, you should take pictures for us," Joey nods.
I feel my cheeks getting warm, I bow my head hiding it, "Thanks guys." A strong arm is slung on my shoulder, "No problem, smiley."
"What should we do now?" Chad asks. I shrug, "Are we staying at a hotel tonight?" Caleb nods, "Yeah, we got two rooms again."
"Caleb, you're with Chad. Me, Mia, and Joey will share the other one," Alan says. "Actually dude, it's Mia, Joey, and I," Caleb corrects. Alan shakes his head in disgust as we collect our things we need for a night.
We get into our room, and Joey volunteers to sleep on the sofa with a pull out bed. "Thanks bro," I mumble, pulling back my sheets. He shrugs, "Whatever."
Alan emerges from the bathroom, smiling. "Awh look at that," he says. "Look at what?" Joey asks. "You," he replies. "Is there something in my teeth?" Joey asks, looking confused.
"No. You're being all sweet though," he says. Joey shrugs, "It's not fair that Mia should sleep here. She deserves a comfy bed after all she's been through."
I smile and kiss Joey's cheek. "Thanks homie," I whisper. He nods, "Anytime girlie."
"Alan, can we order room service?" I sit cross-legged on the bed holding a menu, a phone nearby. "Why?" Alan asks. I shrug, "Cuz I want to."
"That's not an explanation," he laughs. "Please!" I beg. He shrugs, giving in, "Fine. Just don't order too much or anything too expensive." I salute him, "Aye aye cap'n!"
"Jo-Jo wants in on the action!" Joey exclaims, sitting next to me. I balance the menu in the center, as we both scan it.
"I want some cookies," I squeal. "Yeah! They have chicken!" Joey exclaims. "Big Al doesn't wanna be broke. Joe, whatever you order you pay for yourself," Alan says.
"But Joe is broke too," Joey whines. "That's not my problem," Alan chuckles. We call room service, I get a few things, and Joey orders a few things.
"Okay, why don't you guys get ready for bed while you wait," Alan suggests. I shrug, and pull my pajamas out of my tote bag. I head to the bathroom and change my clothes, brush my teeth, and pull my hair into a bun.
"Mia, get your butt out here! I've gotta pee!" Joey exclaims. I laugh, "Wait a sec, Joe." I gather up my clothes and open the door.
Joey shoves me out, and closes the door. I laugh, and bounce on the bed. "Hey smiley, got any plans for tonight?" Alan asks. I shrug, "Eat my food, facetime the fam, and hang out with you losers."
"That sounds nice," Alan says. I shake my head, "There's somebody I'd much rather be chilling with." Alan raises an eyebrow, "And who would this be?" I shrug, "Maybe Colton Dixon."
"Maybe what about Mr. Dixon?" Joey asks, entering the room. "Oh, I was just telling Alan I'd rather hang with Colton instead of you losers," I say, trying not to smile. Joey shrugs, "Can't blame ya there, girlie."
I wriggle under the blankets, and put on my headphones. I plug them into Alan's iPad and call my family, while Joey gets out food.
The screen opens and all I see is Josh. Wait, is he crying? "Josh! Oh my gosh! Is everything okay?" I practically scream. Josh sniffles a little and shakes his head. I feel myself crying too. I don't know what Josh is going to say yet, but it won't be good news.
"Mia, sweetheart, your mom, Meghan, they were in a car accident," he says. I don't even know what to think, I'm in so much shock. I ask the only question I can think of, "Is Jaxon okay?"
"Yeah, he's at the hospital right now. When are you guys getting down here?" He asks. "My birthday," I sigh. "Talk to Alan, see if he can arrange to let you come tomorrow. You need to be home for a while," he says. I nod, "I'll text you later. Get to the hospital."
"Love you honey. Don't worry, I've given it to Him," Josh says. "Love you too. See you soon." I hang up the call, and suddenly I'm unsure of what to do next.
"Can Chad and Caleb come here?" I whisper. Alan nods, "I'll give 'em a ring. Is everything alright, honey?" I shake my head, "I need to talk to you guys about some things."
A few minutes later all the guys are in the room. I sit on my bed next to Alan. Joey is on his sofa bed, and Caleb and Chad sit on Alan's bed.
"You guys, if it's possible, I need to go to Missouri tomorrow," I say, already blinking back tears. "Why love, what's wrong?" Joey asks, eyes flooding with concern.
"Mom and Meghan. They were in a wreck. They're in ICU, and still unconscious. They're having a procedure that is very risky, but it's the only way to save them," I say. This time the tears can't be stopped. They freely flow my eyes. I anxiously brush a few away. The guys are all speechless.
"If you have to stay in Missouri, we will too," Chad decides. "But your shows?" I ask. "We'll reschedule them. We can't just leave you there," Caleb says. "Yeah beautiful, we're not going anywhere," Alan says.
