Chapter 20

The church is even bigger on the inside. I gawk at practically everything while touring it. After, this grand tour Pastor Reid leads back to the game room which is where we'll chill until showtime.

"Ooh guys, ping-pong. You know what that means!" Alan says. "How do five people play ping-pong at once?" I ask. "Patience homie, you'll see," Joey says with what I think is a wink.

"Mia, this is rotational ping pong," Caleb says. The guys begin walking around the table, with just enough time to hit the ball. It's going quite well, until Chad trips.

"Way to go jerk face! You ruined the game!" Joey exclaims. Chad scrambles to his feet and chases Joey. He puts him in a headlock and laughs, "Just face it, little bro. I'll always be stronger and faster." Joey stomps down on Chad foot, "Yes big bro, but I'm smarter."

Chad grabs his foot in pain as Joey hides behind Alan. I laugh, not realizing that I'm Chad's next victim.

"Come on, baby sis, I was just trying to have some fun," he whines, as I cling to Alan for safety.

"Chadwick, my dear friend, why don't you sit down and rest," Alan suggests. Chad nods and sits on a nearby sofa. Everybody is pretty much calm, so I decide now's as good a time as ever to talk about my dad.

"I miss him," I whisper sitting next to Chad. "Who?" Caleb asks, looking lost. "My dad," I sigh, "He lost the battle to cancer when I was thirteen. Mom and Josh got married a year later, on his birthday. I'm super grateful for Josh and Jaxon, but I still miss him. I miss all the great times we had together. He was a really amazing father."

"He raised a beautiful little girl. He'd be proud to see you today, Mia," Joey says. "I know it's been almost three years, but the pain still hasn't disappeared," I lay my head on Chad's chest as he pulls me in for a hug.

"He's looking down at you from Heaven and smiling at how well you're fighting this battle," Caleb says. "Without his death, you wouldn't have a big brother and a step dad. You might not even be in South Dakota with a bunch if idiots," Alan points out.

I force a little laugh, "I guess you're right." Chad strokes his hands through my hair, "Little sis, you just gotta know that He has bigger things in store for you than you can ever imagine. Who knows what this tour could bring? Just don't give up, I couldn't love my life without you, little dork."

I smile, and lean up and kiss Chad's cheek, "Thanks big bro." He nods, and mouths a thank you. I just sit in his arms for a while. Nobody speaks of moves, they're all in deep prayer and meditation.

"Five minutes guys," a knock on the door says. The guys all spring to their feet. "Wow, we're we really in prayer for forty five minutes?" I ask Caleb, who's fixing his hair.

He nods, "We sure did, kid." He sprays some stuff in his hair and begins spiking it.

"Mia, I think I've found the perfect job for you for the rest of the tour," Alan says. "What?" I ask him, feeling curious. "Other than making set lists, you can make sure us fellows look spiffy," he grins.

I giggle, "Nobody talks like that anymore goofball." He wags a finger, "I know where you sleep, Mia." I giggle some more and nod, "That sounds like a challenge." He nods, "It is. Do you accept?" He leans down and presses his forehead to mine. I nod, "Oh yeah, Powell. You're on!"
