CHAPTER EIGHT, reality show drama

Tabitha walked into the barn, talking with Maeve, when she noticed chairs set up in front of the stage and a poster board with 'take a seat' on it was at the front. She also saw Carlos, EJ, and Val stood at the front.

"Morning, guys. Come on in. We don't have much time." EJ explained.

Val smiles, gesturing to the board. "Take a seat."

"Did EJ tell you about this?" Maeve curiously asked.

"He said there's something this morning that none of us will except, but he didn't tell me the details." Tabitha replied. She was curious and confused at seeing the set up in the barn.

"We're not joining a cult, are we?" Marc jokes as he sat by Gina. He looks nervous after the three teens up front didn't say anything yet. "I was kidding. Please tell me this isn't changing into a cult."

Carlos chuckles. "No way, we would never do that." He then calls out, "Can we have everyone's attention please?'

"Thanks for coming in early. We've been up all night." EJ added.

"Look, this better be good because in here," Kourtney points at her head. "It's still last night."

"Yeah, same here." Maeve yawns. "I don't do mornings as most of us should know."

"Really? I couldn't tell." Zander remarked, earning a glare from Maeve.

"We've been working on a plan to save the show and give Corbin and that Channing guy the reality show style juice that they really want." EJ elaborated.

"Sorry. Save the show?" Gina inquired, looking confused like the others.

"Wait, didn't Corbin say we were perfect yesterday?" Marc raises his eyebrows. "I knew that didn't sound very convincing." He mumbled.

"He just wants a little more excitement from us, you know." EJ went on to say. "A little more..."

"He thinks we're boring." Carlos intervenes, earning gasps from everyone. "He's actually missing our rehearsal today to scout out the kids at Deep Lake Camp in Temecula."

"Teme-what?" Maeve questioned, her eyebrows furrowing together.

Ricky leans over to her and whispers, "That can't be a real place." Maeve shook her head in agreement with a confused look on her face.

"But not to worry, because we have a plan." Carlos resumes. "And it starts with five little letters."

"Allow me." Val smiled, taking off the poster board to reveal another one that read 'the r.c.o.s.l.

Pointing at the poster board, Carlos grins. "Watch what happens, fam."

"Okay, what even is that?" Marc inquired, staring at the board with confusion at seeing the letters.

"Riscosil?" Gina questioned, tilting her head to the side.

"Doesn't make any sense." Maeve muttered and Tabitha nodded in agreement.

Carlos sighs. "No. It's The Real Campers of Shallow Lake. The franchise I was always destined to join. I mean, you were."

"Look, it's easy." EJ chimes in. "You know how normally we act like regular people, pick up on social cues, care about our feelings? But now that's over."

Carlos nods in agreement. "Because the key to any great reality show is the three Bs. Bombshells, betrayals, and b**h slaps."

Everyone gasps, staring at him in shock and disbelief. "He really just said that." Maeve mumbled, staring at him with wide eyes.

"Can he say that?" Gina questioned and Marc shrugged in response.

"Look, I love the housewives as much as anyone," Kourtney muses. "But how are we gonna pull this off when we're real students who don't have millions to burn and kids to blame?"

Jet raises his hand. "Can I be Team Kourtney on this?" Tabitha was a bit surprised to see that he was back, but she was happy to know he was back.

"No." Carlos shoots down his idea. "Here's what we're doing." Val takes off the board, revealing another one that read 'the r.c.o.s.l.' and there were squares with different titles on it. "There's the judgy one, the jilted ex, the one with the dark past, the crier, the one with the catchphrase, the one who's here for the wrong reasons, the one not here to make friends, the bad boy the stage mom, the broody musician, the mysterious new guy, and the instigator. Each of you have a role to play."

"I'm sorry, Carlos, did you cast this?" Maddox inquired.

Carlos chuckles, a smirk tugging on his lips. "I'm back, baby."

"Isn't this a little tawdry?" Kourtney asked.

"Was gona say the same thing." Jett cut in and Kourtney smiled at him.

"Don't know what Kourtney said means, don't really care to learn what it means either, but I agree with Kourt." Maeve chimed in.

Carlos chuckles, smiling at Kourtney. "And that's why you, Kourt, get to be the judgy one." Soon Carlos went down the list and everyone had a role. Ricky was the jilted ex, Ashlyn was the one with a dark past, Maddox is the crier, Tabitha is the one with the catchphrase, Zander was the mysterious new guy, Maeve is the stage mom, Marc is the self-centered musician, EJ is here for the wrong reasons, Gina isn't here to make friends, Val is the shrink, Jett's the bad boy, and Carlos will be the instigator.

Carlos had stopped everyone from leaving after they were all listed. Everyone thought that was all for the day, but then EJ pulled out a small board with a to-do list on it. "We have six goals for the day. Someone needs to run out of here crying, someone needs to get slapped, someone needs to throw a drink at someone, someone needs to break some furniture after they throw a tantrum, someone needs to start a catfight, and someone needs to get caught on a hot mic saying something scandalous." Carlos explains. "Any questions?"

Gina raises her hand, looking confused. "Many questions."

"Same here." Tabitha chimes in. "I feel like you're asking a lot out of us."

"Why am I the self-centered musician? I'm not that self-centered." Marc inquired with a frown.

"What are you talking about? You're like the poster boy for being self-centered." Maddox stated and Marc rolled his eyes.

"Why am I the stage mom? What do I even do?" Maeve asked, looking confused.

Carlos shrugs. "You get to yell at people and force them to do stuff they don't wanna do and you can call us all names and say they're not good enough. You basically get to act like a Karen."

"I get to yell at people and tell them what to do and not get in trouble for it?" Maeve grins. "I'm in."

"This is gonna put our documentary on the map." Ashlyn chimes in with a wide smile. "Get into it, guys."

Val then informed Carlos that Channing, the cameraman, will be there in fifteen minutes and Carlos told everyone to get into character.

****

Now everyone was going over their lines while trying to get ready to do their roles for the camera. Maeve and Tabitha offered to be the ones to get in a catfight so they were trying to figure out how they could make it work. They knew they had to be convincing since the others will be doing the same.

"So, how are we gonna do this? We never got in a catfight before but we have to make it look real." Tabitha said to Maeve.

Maeve shrugs. "Maybe we could fight about maybe one of us thinks we messed up the line the other did, but the other didn't think that so then it turns into a cat fight."

"Okay. We can go with that." Tabitha replied with a smile and the two then went out to the stage and started practicing the lines.

****

When Channing arrived, they started with rehearsing. 'A Little Bit Of You' was the first scene they rehearsed with little Anna and little Elsa. Carlos had stopped the performance half way in it, but the girls were confused about how he was acting. Tabitha grimaced, realizing the girls weren't there for the meeting about the roles and such.

Gina and Kourtney checked off throwing a drink at someone on the list with Gina throwing a drink at Kourtney. Tabitha and Maeve were now pretending to bicker about the other saying the line wrong, causing Channing to aim the camera at them. This was their chance. "Don't even get me started." Tabitha raised her voice, pretending to look mad at Maeve.

"You don't tell me what to do, I tell you what to do. That's how this works." Maeve argues, scoffing at seeing the look on Tabitha's face. "I know that look, you think I got the line wrong. You were the one who said the wrong line. You should've listened to me." She then pushed Tabitha's shoulder.

"I said don't get me started!" Tabitha shoved her back, earning gasps from the others. Channing then moves closer to the girls and catches them fighting. Maeve then grabbed a breakaway chair nearby and pretending to be upset and frustrated she slammed it on the ground, breaking it in half.

"That was for the line." Maeve stated and soon left the stage, pretending to be mad. Tabitha then followed her, pretending to be annoyed at the other girl. Channing was surprised at the whole fight, his camera was aimed at them the whole time.

"That catfight was so stupid." Marc scoffs, standing by Zander and the camera was aimed at them. Marc was trying his best to act as a brooding musician, but he still had a hard time. "They're going to mess everything up if they keep acting like that. I don't mess anything up involving singing since I'm a good singer."

Zander nods in agreement, glancing at the other boy, but he didn't say anything. He just leaned against the wall with his arms crossed. Marc narrows his eyes at him. "You don't say much, do you, mystery guy? I mean, who even are you? Why are you here?"

"Doesn't matter. I'm here and you can't make me leave. If you try, you'll be sorry." Zander replied.

"Is that a threat?" Marc questioned.

Zander shrugs again. "Maybe it is. Maybe it isn't. Who knows?"

"Alright, I need to play my alone time to calm down and think about all this. I'll be playing my guitar in the back." Marc announces. "Because, yes, I'm super talented and need to get away from these losers." He walked away from Zander and went back stage. Zander just stayed there, leaned up against the wall with a blank expression on his face as the camera was on him.

"Oh, Marc, don't be like that." Gina pretended to plead, walking after Marc.

"I need my alone time, Gina." Marc stated, not looking back at her. "Aren't you the one here who don't wanna make friends?"

"Yeah." Gina shrugged.

"Then why are you talking to me?" He asked.

"I don't know." Gina admitted.

"Just leave me alone, please. As a very talented musician, I need peace to work on my talent. So, just give me space, 'kay?" Marc spoke and kept walking away.

When the cameras were off them, Gina follows Marc with a grin back stage. "Marc, you're doing such a great job with your role."

"I am, aren't I?" Marc muses with a proud smile. "I should be an actor or something. I thought you weren't good at improv, but you're doing really good with your role."

"Well, it honestly isn't that hard because I was like that when I first arrived at Salt Lake." Gina admits. "But thanks, I'm trying my best."

"You're welcome, babe." Marc smiled at his girlfriend and leaned over to kiss the top of her head, earning a soft smile from Gina.

Now the group was rehearsing an Anna, Kristoff, and Hans scene. Kourtney had told Channing to watch out for Jet since he was the bad boy. After Maddox pushed over the fake sleigh with fake ice in it, EJ said action.

Tabitha walked onto the stage, pretending to bump into the sleigh the same time Jet did. "Oh, I'm sorry. So sorry."

"Oh, no. Are you okay?" Jet asked, catching the sight of Kourtney pointing at him from back stage and then pointing at the board Val held up.

In back stage, Kourtney was getting Jet's attention, pointing at his role on the board Val held to remind him to act as a bad boy. "I'm fine. How embarrassing, I..."

"Director, I don't get Hans. He's kinda lame." Jet interrupts. "Can we get him to be rougher or something?"

"Are you questioning me as a director/actor?" EJ inquired.

"I think maybe that's something I would do." Jet answered, sounding a bit confused.

EJ nods. "Let's keep going."

"Hi. Can I ask you lovebirds something?" Ricky questioned, reading off his line as Kristoff.

Tabitha laughs along with Jet, reading off her line as Anna. "Lovebirds? No, we've actually never met."

"But we're meeting now." Jet spoke in a low voice, earning confused looks from the others.

"Yeah, we are." Tabitha slowly said, not for sure why Jet was suddenly speaking in a low tone.

"Great. Do you like cold drinks?" Ricky continued.

"Very much." Jet responded, still talking in a low voice.

Ricky leans over to whisper to him, "What are you doing with your voice, dude?"

"I don't know, but it hurts." Jet replied to him in his normal voice.

Back stage Carlos told Kourtney needed to be judgier and Maddox needed to start crying to make this more interesting. And when Maddox started crying, Channing aimed the camera at her.

"It is so hard to see my man with another lady." Maddox had paused before saying 'my man' as if it was hard to say that. She then pretended to sob as she walked away.

"Ugh, what a baby." Kourtney muttered.

"Well, that's a little judgy." Carlos told her and Channing pointed the camera at them.

"Well, you're a little loud and excitable man." Kourtney argued.

"What are you gonna do about it?" Carlos asks in a challenging tone. Kourtney then pretends to slap him and he gasps. "Ow! My face! I've been slapped."

Kourtney walks off and when the camera wasn't on him, Val went over to him with the poster board to check off two of the things. So far someone crying, someone getting slap, someone breaking furniture after a tantrum, someone throwing a drink at someone, and someone getting a catfight was checked off. The only thing left to check off was someone getting caught saying something scandalous on a hot mic.

Tabitha was so nervous for the next scene. It was a scene with Anna and Kristoff and she and Ricky were preforming 'What Do You Know About Love?'. It was honestly one of her favorite songs from the play. But it was going to be weird singing a love song with someone who's not her boyfriend.

"Okay. Channing's on a ten-one." Carlos explains, walking over to the two teens who had been talking about their upcoming scene. When they stare at him in confusion, he sighs and adds, "That means peeing in Hollywood."

"I'll never understood Hollywood talk." Tabitha muttered.

"How are we both doing?" Carlos asked them.

"Jilted." Ricky replied.

"Don't get me started." Tabitha shrugged.

"Excellent." Carlos grins. "This is the last song of the day, so let's go out and really sell it. Capisce?" He glances at the curly-haired boy. "Remember, Ricky, you've got unresolved feelings for Tabitha." He looks at Tabitha. "Tabitha, you only know four words. It writes itself."

With his hands on his hips, Ricky stares at him with furrowed eyebrows. "Does it?"

Carlos ignores his comment, looking at Tabitha. "Tabi, what's your motivation?"

"I don't wanna get started?" Tabitha replied, but it sounded more like a question. She was confused at what she was supposed to say.

"Yes, and you're angry at your boyfriend and using your ex-boyfriend to get under his skin." Carlos explained, pointing at Ricky.

"Why am I angry at my boyfriend?" Tabitha asks in confusion. "I'm not."

"But in the scene, you are." Carlos told her.

Tabitha groans in annoyance. "Okay. I got it. I'll figure it out."

"Speaking of EJ, where is he?" Ricky questioned, furrowing his eyebrows. Then a door nearby opened and EJ dressed in a Sven costume walked out. Tabitha couldn't help but smile at him in amusement. She never thought she would see him in a Sven costume.

"Hi." EJ sheepishly smiled.

"Hey, buddy." Ricky replied, patting his arm.

"Tabitha." EJ smiled at Tabitha and she chuckled, smiling at him.

"You look amazing, Eej." She said a hint of teasing in her voice.

"Let's do this." Carlos grinned.

****

"Hey, guys, so I know we've barely run this song, so just mark it." Val suggests. "Use this space but be safe. Half-energy."

"Gotta agree." EJ chimes in. "No reason to go crazy, you guys."

Maddox plays the back track for the scene as Tabitha and Ricky began the scene. Throughout the song they walked throughout back stage and even made up some choreography along the way. Tabitha did her best to make her role look real, following along with what Carlos had told her and Ricky to be like before the scene. It was hard and nerve-wracking to do the scene with Ricky, but it also felt really fun too.

Towards the end of the song, Ricky had added a dip at one part which she was surprised about and it took her off guard. EJ wasn't happy about the dip and hated the pang of jealousy he felt. He knew Ricky and Tabitha were just acting and that he had no reason to be jealous, but he still didn't like it.

At the end of the song, the two teens stood on a small platform they walked up both sides and were staring at each other while the song was ending. The group had all looked impressed with the two teens. Tabitha then looked away from Ricky and walked off the stage and out of the barn. She needed some air, feeling nervous and sweaty from the scene.

She had never preformed a love song with a boy who wasn't her boyfriend before. And it was an intense scene too. She and Ricky had to make it that way though to make it look real because of their roles and what Carlos had told them. She felt horrible, thinking of what her boyfriend must have been feeling seeing that.

She's now sitting on the bench outside of the barn. She didn't even know EJ was walking over to her until she heard him speak. "Hey, angel."

Her heart flutters at the pet name and she glances over at EJ with a soft smile, watching him sit down by her. She notices he had changed out of the Sven costume and was wearing his normal clothes now. "Hi, Eej. Sorry for running off like that. I just needed some fresh air."

"It's fine. I get it." He replies, reaching over to hold her hand. She intertwines their fingers together, smiling as he squeezes her hand. "You okay? That was a pretty intense scene."

"I know. I'm sorry. It's just...Carlos told me to act like I was angry at my boyfriend and using my ex to get under his skin. He wanted us to sell it so the audience thought it was real. I didn't like having to do the scene like that, but I had to do it for this show to be really good." Tabitha explains. "I hope you're not mad at me for doing that scene with Ricky." She said with a frown, playing with his fingers.

"Angel, it's fine. You were just doing your role." EJ reassures her, squeezing her hand again. "Gotta admit, felt a little jealous, but I understand. It's okay."

"Still, I'm sorry." She said softly, looking at him with a frown.

"You have nothing to be sorry for." He told her.

"Eej, I gotta admit, that's the first time I've sung a love song with a boy who's not my boyfriend before." Tabitha mumbled nervously as she began to ramble.

To stop her from rambling, EJ cups her face to turn her to face him and kisses her. She melts into the kiss, kissing him back. When they pull away, they're both smiling softly at each other. "What a great way to shut me up." She joked.

He chuckles and pecks her lips. "You don't have to worry about anything with that scene and you have nothing to be sorry for, okay? You're fine, angel."

"Okay." Tabitha said with a soft smile. "Thank you, baby."

"You're welcome." He smiled and kissed her forehead.

"Hey, lovebirds." Channing calls out, walking back over to the barn. The couple shares a surprised look since they didn't expect Channing to come back. "Stop the lovey dovey stuff and get back inside. I forgot something."

****

Turns out that Channing had forgotten about the group photo, but once that was taken care of, he left for the day. A fight had happened after the group photo with Maddox and Jet and everyone found out they were actually siblings. They also found out EJ's name stood for Elton John. Maeve and Zander had been caught kissing which surprised everyone since they thought they hated each other. No one had expected the day to end like this.

After everyone left the barn, Tabitha went to find Maeve. She found Maeve at the playground area at camp and sat down by her on the swings. "Hey, Mae."

"Hi." Maeve mumbles, glancing at the other girl.

"So...You and Zander, huh?" Tabitha asked.

"I don't even know how it happened." She admits. "We're always arguing and getting annoyed by each other. But then he suddenly kissed me in the middle of the fight. Stupid him and that stupid kiss that made my heart flutter." She muttered angrily, her face turning red.

Tabitha smiles knowingly. "Well, it sounds like you two are enemies to lovers to me."

"Tabi, this isn't a rom-com. We're not enemies to lovers." Maeve argues, giving the older girl a look.

"You sure about that?" Tabitha asked, arching her eyebrow. "Sounds like you're denying your feelings for him. Ad you're right, you two have been always arguing since camp started. But maybe you two didn't even realize your feelings for each other because you were blinded by the anger and annoyance. Maybe the kiss showed you that."

"I hate when you're right." Maeve groaned, glaring at her.

Tabitha grins, leaning over to bump her shoulder with her. "I'm right a lot."

"What am I gonna do?" Maeve sighs, leaning her head on Tabitha's shoulders. "It's gonna be so weird to be around him now after that."

"Mae, it'll be okay." Tabitha reassures her. "If he doesn't return the feelings, then that's his lost. You'll be okay, Mae, you'll figure things out. Just go with what your heart wants."

"Thanks, Tabi. You're the best." Maeve smiled.

"Anytime." Tabitha smiled back.

A/N thought it'd be cool to add some new things to the to-do list they had since i have more ocs & i thought it turned out really good. & ooh zander & maeve kissed, gotta love enemies to lovers!!
