7 Pretty Boy

Kiku POV

The Orphan Boy looked almost like he was sad. I wished I didn't make my sickness obvious... I'd never wish to worry him. I took the plane, and waved with a soft smile. He waved back, but with a brow furrowed in stress. I turned and walked off. I tried my hardest to walk correctly, but I could feel my legs trying to give out. I was growing weaker... and I soon as I was out of eye sight of the Orphan Boy, I let them. I fell to my knees.

I knew I couldn't do much more of this... I'm almost done for... My legs were in excruciating pain, and I wanted to scream... But I didn't. I stayed there as my knees bled on the sidewalk...

I heard the familiar and reassuring voice of my father as he ran toward me. He lifted me, and hugged me tightly.

"Kiku," he said. I suddenly became weak, and tears rolled down my cheek. I hugged him back.

He started carrying me, and never asked why I left on my walks... but he did say I only had two more walks.

Only two more times to see the Orphan boy.

I opened the plane, and read the words he wrote.

Dear Pretty Boy,

I haven't seen you! I got worried. I thought something happened. (I'm writing this ahead of time, so I won't be able to say anything based on your appearance.)

I want to tell you about some of the boys here and ma'am and my little brother. The older boys are my friends. They like to play games... though I don't enjoy most of them. They like to push me, and whoever manages to knock me over wins. Sometimes they let me fall on a pillow, but more than often, they don't. Another game they like to play is hide-and-seek. They all must be really good hiders, because when I decide to go back to my room, they are all outside of their own rooms. They always say they gave up. I don't think they like me a whole ton. I happen to be they youngest one in my age division.

I will move on to Ma'am. She is our Orphanage caretaker. I don't think she likes me. She says I'm a little annoying, then she mumbles under her breath. I heard from the other kids that she had a son once, and he looked a little bit like me. But he died. He got his arm ripped up and his chest destroyed in a freak riding-lawnmower accident. That story scared me enough that I didn't sleep for two days when I first heard it.

I had a little brother. His name was Matthew. Almost a week after we were moved into here, he was adopted by a blonde man with blue-purple eyes. I miss him, and I sure do hope he and the man decide to come back and adopt me!

The more and more I think about this place, I realize it is a prison. There is no way out but bail or death... and bail in my case is being adopted...

But all I can do is have optimism that Matthew and his new family will come get me.

In Optimism and Hope,

Orphan Boy

I folded the plane and held it as father carried me. I said nothing more, and drifted off into a peaceful sleep.
