That time when you wonder what on earth is going on
Tuesday
Lunch time came a little too painfully, and my stomach reminded me why I should be snacking on a Sandwich and not doing math. X plus improper, dividing blah blah blah. Briiing.
Finally. Get me the bell assistant, I want to have a chat with them. And potentially break their nose while I'm having it. I practically ran to get my sandwich and drink but not before I bumped into Tina. I had learnt to not be jealous of her connection to Thomas and now we were almost-friends. Key word: almost friends. At least we didn't fight or have screaming rampages at our doorsteps. Yeah...
She gave me a calm smile but just that calmness told me something was wrong.
"Is something wrong?" I asked trying to be polite. After all she is obviously special to Thomas. Tina gave a small sniff and flashed a pearly grin. This for some reason reminded me of Thomas when he was sad. Wait what? Sometimes she even looked liked a female version of Thomas, with extra manicured nails, a thinner oval face, long eyelashes and pretty lips. Sometimes I wondered just what her connection to Thomas.
I wish I looked like that, Hmmph!
"I guess-" she said her words slurring together," I just want you to know that-"
"Yes?" I said, listening as I grabbed the pre made sandwich from the fridge. I started on my slushy trying to get the perfect stripe pattern. Blue and purple, blue and- ugh I stuffed it up. Oh well. Tina just had a vegan salad. (Healthy!)
"I just- want you to know that- I mean- Thanks." She stuttered out a little too nervously, which was very unlike her.
For what? "For what?" I asked really confused and repeating my thoughts. I now stood at the cashier with her. She looked uncontrollably down, which wasn't a good sign. What is it?! Tell me?! I yelled in my head.
"Thanks for helping Thomas have a second chance again. The last one had left him really and and I wasn't(she took a really deep breath) sure he would ever forget it."
She suddenly grinned and whispered,"do you ever wonder why he never shows off his collarbone?"
Yeah, as a matter of fact I have wondered about that. Was this going to be girly gossip or had she already gone off topic. She stopped smiling. Her answer was really cold and unfriendly, telling me anything but the opposite.
"He doesn't want anyone to see the scars." My heart froze. My hands threw up to my face. That evil girl(with my face) had done this to him. I was now happy she was still in Britain, or there was no where she wasn't going home in pieces.
"So I just- want to thank you for that." She transitioned back to her smooth facade of brilliance and beauty morphed into one with a simple hair flick.
I grinned sincerely but something ticked off in my mind. Something was wrong. It wasn't right. Couldn't be right. Why was she half crying as she said this? And why was she acting like this was the last time I was ever going to see her? Or him?
"Wait-" I called out to her but she was already gone, her Ariana Grande ponytail swishing on her back, as she disappeared into the crowd of people. I frowned. What was that about?
Once I got out I cursed at the fresh men that had taken our spot and had to round another few corners to find a spot. I mean come on- everyone knew Thomas and I, occasionally Myra sat there. But right as I turned another corner I could hear two voices that sounded vaguely familiar. Thomas and Tina.
I hastily hid behind the corner. I shouldn't be eavesdropping I thought to myself. It's immature and childish plus totally invading on privacy. But curiosity got the better of me. Also they appeared to be having a heated discussion.
"You're going to have to tell her," Tina's voice warned.
"I know!" Another irritated, frustrated British voice. Thomas. I could imagine him nervously combing his fingers through his hair like he did when he was stressed out.
What the hell were they talking about?! The mystery was killing me! Oh sugar- I had already missed a minute of their conversation. I leaned in further, ears tense and extremely anxious to hear what they were saying.
"So you are going to tell her," Tina's motherly voice breaking through the silence.
"Yes, tonight. I was really hoping it wouldn't come down to this." I could hear from Thomas, a slump in his shoulders. I sensed an air of defeat. What on earth had they been talking about? Why did he seem so sad about it? Did Tina hurt him? I shook my head it myself, she's too protective of him.
"Good." And with that I could hear the sound of her hugging him walking away, her school pumps making a noise as they hit the cold ground. Thomas sighed to himself. I gritted my teeth slightly, I didn't know Tina hugged Thomas! Since when?!
I leaned back to take in what little I had heard. It was now like trying to piece a puzzle together that you don't even know what it was supposed to look like. There was no way I could get a direct answer from Thomas unless I physically asked him. Dang it. I began to walk away silently when- squeak. CRUD. Cheap target squeaky school shoes. Also cliche.
"Julia?"
My breath hitched and I cursed silently. Crud. Should I make a run for it?
I slowly walked towards him my long hair shielding my face from his. I knew it was rude to eavesdrop.
"D-did you hear all of it?" Thomas asked shifting uncomfortably from side to side. Stupid, stupid, stupid.
"Um... No!" I chimed in a little too quickly. That was kind of honest. He still looked unconvinced, however he grinned.
"So erm... Do you want to go to Touché Cupid Meals or...?" The silence built with the tension.
Ugh, I really hated that place? I cringed at the sappy name and so did he. Let's not forget their 'lover' chicken pie that we both hated. We had that in common.
"What about this other new restaurant that has a galaxy ceiling," I brightly bubbled making me feel happy. Julia could make anyone feel happy, I thought happily to myself. A new slogan I had to keep optimistic. "It's new," I added to my advertising sentence, flipping my curls over my shoulder. I always felt extra happy around Thomas, because I guess I was in love with him.
"Of course,"he agreed with a beautiful smile," but I will have to bring my Uncle. I am only sixteen." I laughed. Even on a date safety and law is important. It is.
"Thanks," I said hugging him tightly in my new girly craze. I just wanted to kiss him! He had that special butterfly effect on me that no one else had. He had this pained look in his eyes though, and I really wanted to extinguish that problem. I guess I had to remember that only yesterday he told how his parents died. Not a simple task to do.
I really really liked/loved him and I hoped whatever he was going to tell was fine. That way we could get it over and done with.
Little did I know what I was in for.
Hey..... How is it going?
Short chapter for now. The next few ones will be very intense and dramatic so brace yourselves! Please vote and comment. It REALLY does mean the world to me and makes my week!
I love you all so much! What do you think is the problem? Can anybody guess?
K Byee.
