Running away from me

The stars lay scattered out before us, looking like dazzling diamonds. Like hey, the metaphors don't lie. It really did look perfect, almost better than the 3D visual effects. It was short of perfect. The grass beneath me felt really comfortable and warm, my heart felt tense though. Lying next to me, was Thomas aimlessly staring staring at the beautiful sky.

"Thomas... You wanted to tell me something?" I tried to put it lightly but my brain was frozen with anxiety. Too frozen. Too filled with anxiety.

Thomas gave an audible sigh. His hand reassuringly grasped mine. My hand tingled under his touch. I tilted my head so I could see him more clearly. He looked so relaxed under the moonlight, a smile that didn't quite make it to the eyes. His skin looked pale and sad under the lighting. He looked like he was swimming in depression under the lighting. Or maybe it wasn't the lighting at all.

"Can I tell you a.... Poem?" There was a weary glint in his eye.

A poem? I nodded blankly.

"Okay... Listen carefully. Some say that you never knew how valuable a moment was until it became a memory..." He said, still aimlessly looking at the sky. It was as if he was reassuring himself with his own words.

Okay... "Thomas?"

"Some say that... We never quite quite knew how spectacular life was... Until it bled itself... The spectrum faded, the colors died and we were left in a sea of colorlessness..."

Well that was depressing. "T-Thomas?"

"And all those paper hearts that have been suspended into what we call something, have turned have turned into nothing."

I frowned. What was he trying to say. "Thomas- what has this got to do with-"

"And those pretty paper hearts that were so delicate yet sturdy have now wilted at the edges. And what awaits them is oblivion."

"Thomas!" I was getting annoyed. "Please don't give me naive answers." I hated naive.

He continued however in this dazed half-asleep look and for a second, I thought he was asleep and he looked... Beautiful.

It didn't last long though. He abruptly jerked up, those eyes snapping open.

I found my hand slipping from his grasp, my heart started to sink. "Thomas? Are you... Okay?" He couldn't be any more of the opposite.

He continued his 'poetry' though. "And the hardest thing when you are in love everyday. Is that those feelings you felt, can never quite fade away."

My heart sank even further and I frowned. Funny poetry choice for a date. Please tell me this is a joke. Please tell me this is a joke.

He wasn't done yet, facing away from me. "But the harder thing... still is that I need you to know. However much we were, it's time to let go."

Oh. My. God.

Can't. Breathe.

Help. Help. Help.

I don't really know what happened. It isn't something you can justify by describing. It's more like... A final crow of a dying bird. More like... The dimming of a beautiful star. I can't really explain it, but the closest word to describe my feelings... Was death. Cold inevitable death.

I pieced together his words each one more painful than the last. What also hurt was that he didn't have the nerve to really, really speak the words. Not that I would react any different but the dignity would make more sense. How sadly ironic. The brilliant poetry that had touched my paper heart strings had also snapped them.

I shakily collapsed at his feet, tears threatening to spill over my lashes. Now I know how he must have felt, if not worse. Oh right. That reminded me. He probably didn't forgive me. Not ever, which was why he dumped me. Dumped me. The words sounded so cold, dreadful and empty. I found myself begging tugging at his hands. I was sickly reminded of my dream. Where he had walked away from me. Forever.

I first felt shock, then sadness and then topped off by... rage. Pure, pure rage.

"I know that you don't forgive me. But Thomas, I have tried everything for you to forgive me. And I'm very very sorry that look and act like your ex. I'm sorry! But just I don't love you the way you want me to, doesn't mean I don't love you with everything I have."

He wrenched himself away from me starting to walk away. I tugged at his arm again, all dignity I had wasted. Gone. Burned away. Hacked off with a pretty paper knife. "No... Julia it's not that I-"

He twisted away from me again, already back onto the pavement. The rage fully kicked in me now. "Well Thomas... I am very sympathetic. I am sorry that your parents are and there is no one left to love you. I am sorry that your heart is so easily BREAKABLE and I am sorry that you couldn't glue it back together for the life of me. Scratch that, for the life of us."

"No. Julia-"

I steadily stood up and looked him in the eye, my words coated with grim remorse. Reaped by anger and killed by sorrow. "But you just kept those pieces on the floor. And you were dangerous! Dangerous because those pieces are a hazard. And can oh so EASILY hurt the ones that are trying. Trying so so so hard to glue you back together."

"Julia-"

"You can go back to her. I am happy you can have a decent pretty beautiful girl that won't break you down. That I couldn't give what she would give to you. Sorry. You have good looks and an even more beautiful personality. But that may be it!"

"Julia-"

"And now I guess this is where the prince leaves. Because he weeps over his shattered non-ecofriendly instead of looking for the glue. And for the longest time, that's what I thought I was. The glue that would love you and save you."

I turned away so I didn't have to look at him. "And Thomas, I feel sick! Yes you are good looking, no you DON'T have a thing on your handsome oblivious angelic face! Wonder why girls flirt and have crushes on you? Yes Thomas, they flirt. Wonder why girl want to sleep with you?! You're good looking! And talented! And beautiful! And nice! And smart! And British! Everything I am NOT."

"Jules that's not tru-"

"You are my dream guy!"

I paused abruptly and corrected myself.

"Were me dream guy." The words singed with silence, and my heart felt heavy. Like a ton.

"You were my prince that I dreamed about. The one that would make my life extraordinary. The one I drew in Kindergarten.

I don't know what happened... But the last twisted words escaped from my mouth before I even thought them through. Words can bring poison, true words can bring death.

"And Thomas... I would say you're cold-hearted but I can't, because... You don't have one."

Which was mythical truth. The silence was worst then a slap.

"Yeah well now I know I have a heart... Cause it's breaking."

Kill me.

Help me.

Save me.

Two tears slipped out of four cheeks and silently Thomas turned around and ran. Ran away from me. And all of this. But he mainly ran from me. And all of this.

And for some unknown reason, I found myself running after him.

'Good bye my almost lover...

My back is turned on you...

Should have known you'd bring me heartache...

Almost lovers always do...'

So yeah. Don't kill me. The next is going to be even more dramatic. Trust me. Please vote and share because I need all the support I can get! ILYSM. LET's aim for 30 views and 10 votes!
