Good nights in space

I smoothed out my denim jacket and my skinny jeans. My hair was pulled back in a half-up half-down hairstyle. No intense stuff on my face, mascara and flavored Chapstick. Oh, and vanilla perfume. I glanced at the clock, 6:30. For a strange reason tonight, I was extremely calm. Which was weird, I was supposed to be hyperventilating. Wait- I spoke too soon.

Ding dong! Cue hyperventilating. It was him! I squealed really girly and sprang to the door flinging it open.

"Hi," Thomas said with an amused grin on his face. I never tired seeing it. I never tired seeing him and his dazzling smile. "You look... Um... Aesthetically appealing..."

I blushed crimson and threw into him with a hug, nuzzling my face into his shirt. God, he smelt so good. Mint and cinnamon. My thoughts were getting muddled up now. Julia, calm the earth down.

"Hi," I bubbled back, breaking into a smile.

The trip wasn't long although Thomas wasn't slamming the doors anymore. It was still heavy but definitely not a heavy slam like before. More like a... Slam! It comforted me of how hard he was trying, and I gave him as encouraging a smile as I could. We arrived at the restaurant called: Under the Stars, which looked really beautiful from the outside. I looked across the road to the other restaurant, sucked in Touché Cupid Meals!

As we walked in, the ceilings were illuminated with vivid and beautiful galaxies. Right now they were in an Antartican Phase. The girly inner me swooned, nothing like eating in the dark under the Aurora Lights with pretty music to set the romantic mood. Owl city's fireflies started playing.

"It's so magical," I said.

Thomas shrugged. "Thanks to the projectors." He pointed to the black technical things hidden in each corner. You wouldn't see them if you hadn't been looking for them.

I shoved him playfully. "Boo hoo, you're no fun." I gestured around in the darkness. "Enjoy the fantasy."

He gave a wide grin in response. "You are like no girl I have ever seen... Like ever."

That was a good thing right? I stuck my tongue out. "Well you know... Why fit in when you were born to stand out?"

As if to make a point I accidentally and pathetically faltered on my own feet and banged into a table, making a loud clang. Just great. Thomas laughed.

As we were seated I gazed at him, you couldn't really see him through the lack of light but the beautiful colors danced on his face. He was strangely enough, beautiful. Not something you would normally say to a man but he was definitely justified to it.

We ordered our food and then Thomas seemed to steel himself. "Um... Julia," he slowly said as though he was chewing in his words slowly, as if stalling for all the time he had. "Erm... I need to tell you something."

I realized this had to do with earlier at school. "Yes?" I lightly asked. Besides what could the worst be?

"Erm..." Thomas was obviously struggling. "Tommorow... Are you going to school?"

Say what? I almost choked on my water. That was his serious thing to say? I shrugged. "My mum would want to go. Even if the world was ending, you can count on me to come to school!" My attempt to lighten the situation failed leaving us in a tense awkward silence.

"Tommorow I won't be here."

I grinned. "Lucky!" What? He is lucky. I have never missed a day of attendance. Not ever.

"No Julia... I erm... I am...", he took a deep inhale. "Tommorow-

Just then the start of the music hit the tables swelling up in our ears and effectively cutting off anything he wanted to say. I opened my mouth to say something and then realised that it was the sing Amazing Grace. Which you know, had a beautiful sound effect of the ocean in the background. Thomas's face screwed up into one of immense agony. Oh no.

As the waitor came over with our food I asked him the question.

"Um... Excuse me? Could you possibly change the music?" I yelled over the music.

The waitor walked away with a slight polite nod. I turned my head away clutching Thomas's hand tightly. I didn't want to look at his pained face. It hurt me to look at it.

Without warning, the ceiling moulded into a spectacular view of the enchanting Milky Way. A realistic willow tree swayed its branches above us ever so gracefully. My mouth gaped open in awe. Forget NASA, this look like 3D outer space. The closer I'd ever get to swimming in no gravity. To top this off. London Grammar's Strong started playing.

I grinned from ear to ear. I had always wanted to lie/sit under the stars with my boyfriend with this song playing. Now that was coming true. Wait. Boyfriend? I blushed under the darkness and focused in cutting my steak refinely.

As usual though my gaze wondered up to where his face would be in the dark. I could make the outline of his dazzling angelic smile.

Excuse me for a while, while I'm wide-eyed and I'm so damn caught in the middle.

He caught my stare and held it there, my heart doing jumping jacks.

I excused you for a while, while I'm so damn caught in the middle.

In normal circumstances I would never stare at people because my mum would give me an earful of how bad that was. But I loved staring at him.

If a lion, a lion.... Roars. Would you not listen?

If a child, a child... Cries. Would you give them?

Beautiful, beautiful... Also, side note: this steak is seasoned greatly!

Yeah, I might seem so strong,

Yeah, I might speak so long.

I've never been so wrong...

"So," I said, my voice cutting through the angelic singing. "How's your steak?"

Thomas sniggered. "It tastes great. Way better than the other shop." Agreed Tommy, agreed.

I put my hand to my phone. Beautiful moments like these are so worth photographing. But a hand met mine, refraining me from picking it up.

"Don't worry about pictures." Thomas smirked. "You'll always come here so there's no rush. Besides in this case, the camera will suck at being a camera."

I scoffed quietly. "Yeah." Then to give more of a hint I said," I will always come... with you at least."

Excuse me for a while. Turn a blind eye with a stare caught right in the middle...

Have you wondered for a while, I have a feeling deep down you're  caught in the middle...

Thomas's smile wilted over and died, smoldered by longing. "Julia, I guess what I am trying to say is..."

"Yes?" I said in a light cheeky tone.

"This is really, really important." The tone was reprimanding, annoyed but above all, dead-flat serious.

If a lion, a lion... roars. Would you not listen?

If a child, a child.... Cries. Would you not give them?

Suddenly when the same song is replayed give times, it loses it splendor and sounds sour and weak. Exactly the situation now.

My heart sunk as I finished my tart. I braced myself for the worst scenario. Did I do something wrong?! Was he tired of me and my clumsiness?! Was he going out with Tina?!  Maybe he still resented and hated me?! His face was taut and serious. Crud my face. Maybe that was it!

"What is it?" My voice sounded desperate and panicked. Who can blame me though?

"You won't like this but..."

Sugar sugar sugar. FRIK. FRAK.

Thomas reached out for my hand. "I'll tell you later." His voice sounded off-out like he was trying to procrastinate and put off whatever he was going to tell me later. That was bad. I shoved it to the back of mind.

"... The visual effects are really cool." He said after a while, trying to change the topic.

A grin found its way onto my face.

"So... How's dessert?"

30 minutes later...

I gritted my teeth in annoyance. "Thomas, don't be sexist. I'm paying."

"No. I am paying."

"But you payed last time!"

I reached up for the bill but he stood higher than me holding it way above my head.

"I am paying. End of story." A victorious smirk made its way onto his face as he paid while I sank back down into my chair. Why did men always have to pay? Why? Then he grabbed my hand and led through the door.

"Thomas, where are we going? Are we taking your car?" I asked.

"No. It's just nearby, to the park. Because even though seeing the Northern Lights and the Milky Way is pretty cool, I think it's better if we naturally just look at the stars." Agreed. How romantic and cliche.

He sniggered loudly and I realized I said that allowed. Why am I so.... Clumsy and hopeless?

Hey all. So just so you know... The next chapter is very dramatic and intense as he tells Julia... The something he needs to tell her. I was going to unravel it all in this chapter but it would have been far too long and winded. So two chapters it is!

Anyone piecing together Thomas's 'secret'? *wink spasm* Anyway so please vote and comment on how I can improve my writing skills. Have an awesome sauce day and ILYSM.

K Byee.
