Golden Boy

Hey guys! :)

So I decided to keep with the POV till the end of this book... WHICH is super close now. I know. *sniffs uncontrollably* but there will be quite a lot some switching around so prepare yourselves!

I also just realized I wrote Julia's whole argument in CAPSLOCK. Sorry guys.

Anyway, hope you guys enjoy. Please share, comment and vote.

Ps. So amped up to see 'The Scorch Trials.' TBS is Bae. No doubt about it.

Julia's P.O.V

Skies like these aren't made for smooth sailing. They are made for champions.

Thank god he stopped. I was pretty sure that any longer and I would have a heart attack. No kidding. Thomas had to know how much I loved him. Because I did, greatly. Too greatly. He had stolen my heart, and I couldn't get it back. I desperately stepped forward to start my begging apology when-

"Thomas! I am so s-"

"I have a question to ask."

I nodded briefly, too numb to say a thing. Was this one of those 'do you love me' questions?

"But-"

"What type of student am I?" His British voice was tense.

What? What has that got to do with.... This? This situation? Totally unprepared, my mind went blank. Student? Tonight had been horrible and I was much to tired to answer anything. I just wanted to hug him. To apologize for cruelly yelling and-

"Thomas I am so-"

"Answer. The. Question." A cold voice said through the night, resembling an angry maths teacher. I flinched at the hating tone. Now I know how it felt. He had said his pet peeve was selfish people. Well... I can't lie now. I am selfish.

"Erm... Highschool student?" I bluntly answered sounding really wheezy. I propped my arms on my knees to catch my breath and rest my oxygen-deprived heart; preparing in case he took off again. This must be a distraction!

He frowned even further and took another step back. I hastily but slyly took one forward, equally as calculative. No way was he going to leave me. Nope. Not at all. I was stubborn that way.

Thomas shook his head and took yet another step back. I knew better than to follow. "No... Not that. Be more specific."

Specific? Now what was he playing? I racked my head, working itself to death. He could just be distracting me to get away? No Julia, answer the question already. Worst comes to worst you just tackle him, like the way you met him. This time however on purpose.

"You are a....." What was it again? Transinh student? No- Transform student? It clicked.

"You are a... Transfer student." I said confidently, cautiously edging my way around. He mirrored me without thinking. His mistake. Now he would now have to get through me to get through the car. Just like in foot ball practice, and this time I wouldn't let him leave so easily,

He looked at me silently as if he suddenly expected me to get some unknown message. When I remained looking at him unexpectedly, he sighed and prodded with yet another question. It was like a mother teaching a toddler her ABC's.

"And... How long do Transfer Students go to school for?"

His gorgeous face was taut and emotionless, deprived of anything happy. I felt a crack form in my glass heart. His one however, was already shattered anyway.

Thomas side stepped just as I mirrored him. He side stepped the other way and I mimicked that as well. As childish and pathetic as it seemed, the car was more or less thirty meters away. At his running speed, meager seconds was all he needed to get away.

Just how long do Transfer Students go for? I remembered tirelessly listening to the principal on the first day. She had said... She had said...

I just wanted to go to him, say sorry and hug him. But by the serious expression, I'd have to answer his question first. The moonlight shifted to shine on one cinnamon eye.

"Transfer students stay for-

Then it dawned on me. A cold feeling washed through me. A cold ripple that renounced from my head and travelled to my gut. Oh. My. God. No... This couldn't be. People said the truth hurt the most. But in my opinion everything hurts more than love. Thomas was by my side in a second.

"You... You are a transfer student..." Those two words now held more meaning than they had seconds ago. I should have know this. But I disregarded it. Transfer Students were like birds. Only nesting for a short amount of time before taking off again...

I didn't know how to react. I would have cried except I couldn't anymore. Brain dead was the best way to describe it. I gulped down the bile that rose in my throat.

"Thomas I-"

"Julia, stop talking. Listen to me." He voice was just as emotionally cracked as mine. I knew this was hard for him as well, so I went against my stubborn self conscious and was quiet.

He faced me with an even eye, choking through his dreaded words. "I... Have... To... Go back. And... I... Don't... How... Long it will... Take. There, I said it."

I think I just took a very hard fall. I stopped breathing. But my brain had to have answers.

"When... When did you... F-find o-out?" I heard myself say. It was like when a doctor told you the unimaginable and you refused to believe the truth.

He gave a very audible sigh. "A month ago."

I recalled every time he had tried to tell me something. My knees wobbled. Technically, I was already dead anyway. But I wouldn't cry. No, I wouldn't cry. So I didn't.

"It... It's okay Thomas. You can go back... You deserve someone that wouldn't break your heart. Twice". I added.

He kept his eyes on the ground, no words emitting from his mouth. There wasn't anything to say. An idea slowly overwhelmed the cold feeling that had been there.

"Thomas? Now is the time for me to tell you that English ballad I wrote."

He cocked his head looking confused. I didn't care. Everything in my life was confusing.

"Erm... Okay?"

I began reciting.

'I sense with eyes a golden boy,

With a heart not quite so done.

By chance I thought that maybe one day,

We'd be laughing one by one.

In my dream with my Prince Cramming,

We sat holding hands by night.

While you played the guitar- beautifully too,

And we sang by candlelight.

I agree with that song we sang together,

Love is human need.

But as time goes by,

Those heart strings are reeled with greed.

Yes I agree, everyone wants to love,

And everybody loved is want,

But not all stories end so happy,

Because people failed the hunt.

Yes I was holding the paper knife,

And yes those heart strings could be.

I was only ever stupid then,

Not knowing truthfully.

I made mistakes -crazy ones too,

That hurt this chance I had

So that his heart shattered by husk,

Could never be complete or glad.

I only realized sadly too late,

What I could not do.

For he could never actually mend that heart,

Because he had no glue.

I know I was pathetic,

I understand if now the hatred is lean.

I really wish back then I knew,

What we could have been.

But I guess I can't be selfish,

He deserved so much more.

I shall whisper in his ear before he goes,

For it is he that I adore.

I sensed with eyes a golden boy,

With a heart that wasn't done.

It's funny I wished that we could be,

Laughing one by one.'
