epilogue
One week after Minjeong came back.
They talked about this, that they would never fight regardless of anything. They talked about how they should prioritise each other's understanding of any matter since Minjeong got home from Khurasan that day. But, it seems like things would never be that smooth for everything regardless of their promises.
"Minjeong!" the actress shouted from the kitchen, staring deadly at her wife who's just stood up from the couch innocently. This woman would never understand!
Minjeong lifted her brows in confusion. Hands in the air, about to argue about her wife's nonsense. "What?"
"How many times should I tell you to stay still on the couch? Can't you even do the simplest thing?" the angry woman drawing her spatula to her wife, but Minjeong seems more stubborn than ever, walking even closer, feeling not even a sense of guilt at all.
"Jimin," Minjeong rolled her eyes between her soft chuckles. "It's been a week since my surgery. I can walk now—"
"But you are still limping!" Jimin pouts angrily, still drawing the spatula to her wife. "You are still limping, Minjeong. You couldn't even stand up for more than ten minutes, and that is why I told you to just sit still. The food is not going anywhere!"
"But, Jimin—"
Jimin's draw on the spatula got even bolder. Her eyebrows furrow deeper. "Don't you dare to come closer! I know what you are going to do, Minjeong!"
"What?" Minjeong waved her brows in a teasing manner. "What am I going to do?" despite her limping leg, Minjeong still walked closer to her wife. Both hands on her waist, challenging the actress to take a guess. "Tell me, Jimin. What am I going to do?"
"You are going to," Jimin paused her words, too embarrassed to say it out. Of course, Jimin knew at this point. It has been only one week since Minjeong got back from Khurasan and it is also just a week since they were in a real, official, in-love, married relationship, but Minjeong has been doing this every day since she got back. "You are going to... hug me, and watch me cook from my back," her words came out slow, just enough for Minjeong to hear them.
The actress's confession left the soldier in laughter. God, how did she end up with such a cute wife? "So, why?" Minjeong walked closer until she was right in front of the drawn spatula. "I just wanted to hug my wife from behind as I watched her cook. Is that a crime?"
Defeated, Jimin sighed heavily as she put the spatula down, turning to the other way to continue whatever she was doing before, ignoring the presence of her stubborn wife who slowly snaked her arms around Jimin's waist.
"I hate you," Jimin mumbled between her angry toss of their breakfast.
"Well, I would love you, still," Minjeong snuggled her face between the crook of Jimin's neck. She learnt that she loves teasing Jimin like this. She learnt that she loves to be so... in love with Jimin.
A kiss was planted on the actress's neck before Minjeong said, "I need to go to work today."
With that single word, Jimin immediately turns off the stove as she turn around once more. Her brows furrows worriedly for her wife. "They said they going to give you two weeks off. It has been only a week? What did they want from you?" her lips started to pout to argue, and Minjeong couldn't help it as the soldier's smile got wider and wider. Jimin is so damn cute like this.
"Hey," Minjeong said before she pulled her wife by the waist to the side, lifting her up gently onto their kitchen counter before she pinned her body in between with her arms. "I'll be there only for a while. They said they were going to give me something. Then, I'll be back home, with you, spending another week without the disturbance of my duty. Okay?" the soldier's words came out soft.
Only then did Jimin's brows furrow less. Both of her hands cupped Minjeong's cheek. "Are you sure? You are still limping, Minjeong. I am worried."
"I am fine, baby," Minjeong smiled, nuzzling their nose together in her crinkling. "I would always come back—"
The actress cuts her first with flushed cheeks and slightly widened eyes. "What did you just call me?"
Confused, the soldiers ask. "What?"
"You called me... 'baby'... just now," Jimin eyes blinked shyly, her orbs were deep into Minjeong's. "Call me that again."
"Hmm?"
"Call me 'baby' again," Jimin requested, more determined. This woman is too damn cute — Minjeong gave in anyway. She would always do whatever her wife told her to.
"Baby," Minjeong smiled softly.
"More."
"Jimin, baby..."
"More—" Jimin couldn't finish her words when her wife leaned in, kissing her lips between her smile before the soldier pulled away seconds later. "We need to eat, baby. I need to go in an hour," the soldier's gaze on the actress is nothing but love.
Jimin got so shy but still managed to stare into her wife's eyes before she said, "O-okay."
After their breakfast, Minjeong did go to work as scheduled despite Jimin's arguing about it. It ended up with Minjeong coming back home five hours later with a new title displayed proudly on her uniform collar and shoulder — It's Captain Kim Minjeong, now.
Jimin was so proud that night that she showered her wife with countless kisses on her face and neck, that they couldn't help but giggle all over before went to sleep.
*****
Three months after Minjeong came back.
Minjeong needed to leave again, for another country, but this time, the soldier had told her wife in advance, which Jimin felt extremely thankful for. She could cling onto Minjeong as much as she wanted to, say many 'I love you' so she wouldn't regret anything later, and would hug and kiss the soldier almost every ten minutes they were at home.
Jimin was more prepared this time. She had beaten herself since that day to never neglect her wife, and to be more understanding of her job.
But, sure. Jimin would find it hard sometimes.
"Can't you stay? If you love me, you should stay," Jimin begs a hundred times that day, hugging her wife so tight on their bed as the couple prepared themselves to sleep. Minjeong chuckled once, fixing their blanket onto their entangled body before finally caressing the back of her wife's head. "I told you, this time I will only be there for a week. There's not even a war, I'm there for the humanitarian aid, baby. You had nothing to worry about, hmm?"
Jimin planted her face deeper between her wife's neck. "But, still," her hands snaked around the soldier's waist tighter. "I don't want to be apart with you."
Minjeong laughs, kissing the crown of Jimin's head. "Hey. I promised to come back home, remember?"
Despite every assurance that the soldier tries to convey, Jimin would never let go. She knows that in two days, Minjeong would be going to Sirenia just to help the ones in need, and distribute food and facilities for the poor. But being apart from Minjeong was the weakest point of Yu Jimin. She tried, she did. She's just so bad at this.
"Will you come to my movie award next week?" the actress slowly pulled away as she stared into Minjeong's warm eyes, still hugging her wife. "You would come, right? You told me you wanted to?"
"For 'Blue Hearts'?" Minjeong asked with a small smile. It didn't take long for the actress to nod her head in reply. "Hmm. For 'Blue Hearts'. I've been nominated in the Best Actress awards."
Minjeong bored her eyes deeper into her wife. She loves seeing Jimin like this. So cute — So needy — So desperate. "I will try my best," Minjeong kissed the actress's forehead once, before pulling away. "And for Sirenia," she kissed Jimin on her left eye. "I promise you I would not get hurt," a kiss on Jimin's right eye. "I would just do all the aids stuff," a kiss on Jimin's nose. "And I won't let any woman there to flirt with me," a kiss on Jimin's left cheek. "Because I got the best wife in the world," finally a kiss on her lips. "Okay?" her eyes trying to find answers in Jimin.
Only when Jimin answered her back with a soft "hmm" and a tiny nod, did Minjeong continue. "If I got back on the day of your award, what should I wear to catch your attention? Or what should I do with myself so you could see me between those humongous crowds?" Minjeong lifted her brows, questioning.
Jimin slowly pulled off her hands from Minjeong's waist, running her fingers on Minjeong's smooth, brown hair, letting it brush between her skin. "Cut your hair."
The actress's request sent the soldier in shock. "Excuse me?"
"Cut your hair. I think bob hair suits you," the actress ran her fingers between her wife's brown hair a few more times. A small smile formed brightly on her lips as she said, "Make them blonde."
"Jimin, that's—"
"Cut them bob, and make them blonde, so I could see you in the crowds." Jimin was persistent despite the soldier trying to argue. "Is that a problem? I don't think it is against the rule, isn't it?"
"Well, it is, but..." Minjeong eyes started to shift everywhere other than Jimin's pleading eyes. This stupid cheese cat has become one of her weaknesses. "No one in the ROKA ever had blonde hair. I might get shouted at because of this, baby."
"Get shouted at or me?" Jimin's fingers between Minjeong's hair clenched, shocked the poor soldier from brushing off that topic as her beautiful hair was grabbed so rough by her wife. Now her eyes were stuck with Jimin's glares. Gosh, she couldn't. She gave up.
"You." Minjeong sighed, and a small smile flashed on her face. "Fine. Bob cut, blonde, it is."
Only then, that stupid cheese cat finally flashes her big smile, pecking Minjeong three times on the lips with a cute little "Thank you!" in between.
Now, Minjeong was glad that she had given up only to see that cuteness out from Jimin.
*****
Three months and a week after Minjeong came back from Khurasan, also one week after Sirenia.
Jimin had to go to the award alone today. She knew Minjeong promised to be there with her, and she knew that her wife tried her best, but Jimin had learnt to be a good and understanding wife for Minjeong. The soldier had texted her ten hours earlier that she might not be there on time — She didn't know at what time she would reach South Korea — Her flights getting delayed — So many things, to be honest. Even if she couldn't be on time, Jimin wouldn't be mad at her for that. Jimin would still love Minjeong, nevertheless.
Her captain got a lot of things to do in Sirenia, Jimin guessed.
Jimin wore her sponsored black dress that night, thanks to her 'Blue Hearts' movie that became a hit just one week after the premiere, and brand offers came rolling towards her non-stop like a river since then. The news of how she cried that day, literally on her knees for Minjeong also became a hit, but Jimin felt disgusted every time she saw her crying face keep appearing on the news screen.
She literally cried like a baby that day.
Jimin was extremely thankful and glad because instead of getting seated right next to the actor, this time she was seated next to her actress friend, Yeji. The two women yell happily at one another when they see each other, hugging for a few seconds before finally being seated. Between awards, they mostly talk, trying to catch up on life.
As the MC announced the best actor of the year, Jimin asked Yeji, "How's Yejin? Who is taking care of her?"
The other actress snorted. "Ryujin did. I hope she didn't burn the house."
"I hope Minjeong will come back home soon," Jimin said with a heavy sigh. Seeing the longing eyes of Jimin, Yeji slowly reaches for her friend's hand, squeezing it in assurance. "She would be just fine, Jimin. She promised you too."
Jimin finally lifted her head, flashing a small smile on her face. "I know, Yeji. Thank you."
The two actresses had a few more small talks before the MC's words brought their attention back to the stage. Finally, it is the Best Actress Award category. Jimin didn't put hope much into it since she knew she just come back up from her plummeting self. She finally got back onto her feet thanks to Minjeong, and she didn't expect much that she would receive any awards from this event. But then...
They called her name.
The MC just called her name.
It felt surreal at first. The camera captured her clueless face on screen, how Jimin was shocked by everything. How Yeji who is beside her keep pushing her out of their seat, saying to Jimin countless times that this is real. Jimin did it. She wins the award.
"But, Yeji, I—"
"Girl, go! You deserve this!"
Jimin felt like she was the 'Go Minsi 2.0' at this point, being extremely clueless with this award that her eyes wavered around in confusion even as she walked towards the stage. A beauty, in a black dress, but her expression is hilarious. Jimin knew they would write that in the news later, not that she cared much about it.
She received a bouquet of flowers along with a trophy from the MC before she headed towards the standing microphone, still finding this whole situation a bit bizarre. She just talked with Yeji about Yejin just now, and the next moment she is here, on the stage, trying to give her a congratulatory speech.
Jimin wasn't prepared for this.
"I, uhm..." Jimin eyes wander between the crowds nervously. Really, she is not expecting much. She saw some people in blonde, but she didn't hope that it was her wife. She understood that Minjeong might be busy, but then as if her prayers were heard, her eyes got stuck onto that certain bob hair blonde who seemed smiling a bit too wide for a normal person.
And yes. That smile struck Jimin straight to her heart, and only a person in Jimin's life would be able to do that.
"Minjeong," Jimin's words came out breathy, but it was loud enough that the whole hall heard her from the speakers. Nevertheless, Jimin eyes got stuck on her wife who still smiling so brightly between the heavy crowds, mouthing the actress a "go on," and smiling like a fool as Jimin did, her lips finally quavered, starting to form a word on her mouth.
"I'm... Thank you, for this. I really did not expect any awards, since you guys know that it has been a while since I disappeared from the industry. Thanks to the 'Blue Hearts' team for giving me this opportunity, to gain back the trust of the public for myself. But, last but not least, I would say thousands of times thank you, to my one and only wife."
The actress holds onto her trophy and her flowers tighten. Her smile gets brighter, more than the sunshine in the morning, and Minjeong being the proud wife she is, keeps looking in her wife's direction with the best warm smile she could offer. Jimin then shoots her eyes lovingly at her wife as she gets closer to the mic again. "I love you."
It didn't take long before the award came to an end an hour later, and this time, Jimin had to snatch her wife with her in her car back home, literally the first thing she did as soon as she started the car's engine was kissing her wife passionately on the lips. More confession was heard before Jimin pulled the soldier into a tight hug.
"You are here, and you cut your hair!" she squealed happily, looking into Minjeong is such an awe. "I told you, you would look good with them! I fell in love again!"
The soldier just laughs out loud happily, too happy at her wife's outburst. "I'm glad I trust you, and yes, I'm back to you, baby."
Being apart from Minjeong for just even a week was a pain in Jimin's heart. But now, she's here, in Jimin's arms, as the soldier keeps showering her kisses and how much she misses the actress. When they got back home that night, it didn't take long before they stumbled between the walls, clothes everywhere, and made love after a long time.
Minjeong would have many more outcountry missions in the future, and Jimin knew that it wasn't always as dangerous as it sounded. Jimin knew she would feel worried, traumatized, and anxious every time she was apart from her wife, but one thing was for sure.
When Minjeong promised that she would come back, she would always will, and Jimin trusted her for that. Because, out of every fear she got, getting Minjeong back again was the best part of everything.
Literally, the best part of everything.
*****
Seven months after Minjeong came back from Khurasan.
It's winter, and Jimin has never been as thankful as she is right now, seeing the first snow at the park near her apartment, with her wife by her side, holding her hand so tight as they walked side by side, enjoying their peaceful evening.
It was their first time together seeing the first snow.
The actress had let go of her wife's hands as Minjeong watched her running away with a wide, happy giggle, throwing some snow towards the soldier innocently. Minjeong just silently tugged her hands into her jacket pocket, nonchalantly walking towards her wife who just squatted down on the snow-covered ground, collecting a diligent amount of snow in her palms.
"What are you doing?" Minjeong asked, squatting right next to her wife. Jimin being deadly focused as always, too busy with her perfect creation as she replied back in between. "Snowman."
Minjeong questioned none after that, watching how Jimin started to shape her little snowman to perfection, giving him hands and mouth using tiny branches she found nearby. Tiny leaves as his hair, and tiny rocks as his eyes and nose. She didn't forget to put a mole under his mouth; Jimin's signature.
"You gave him a mole too?" Minjeong laughs as Jimin proudly presents her little snowman to the soldier with a cute "Tadah!" at the end.
"It is not a he. It's a she," Jimin corrected.
Minjeong scoffed in defeat, nodding her head. "Okay-okay. It is a she. Why did you give her a mole too?"
"Because it's me? See?" Jimin presented her snowman once more, flashing a bright smile on her face. "Isn't it cute?"
The soldier could only chuckle, gazing back at her wife in such warmth. "You are cuter, you know?" Minjeong's soft voice could melt Jimin every time. She was that vulnerable for Minjeong, Jimin always felt helpless about it.
They get back home a few minutes after that, cold hands holding onto one another as they toss off their winter boots to the side of the shoe rack, too cold at this rate to even arrange it nicely before Jimin was the one to break their hands, rushing off towards her bedroom. "I win! Imma take the warm shower first! You lose!"
Minjeong sneered. Jimin, you are so silly. Even if she did not tell Minjeong that, the soldier would offer the warm shower first to her wife nevertheless. Fool. "Go ahead, I don't mind."
Minjeong laughed when she could hear how the actress cheered happily in their bedroom, before the door to the shower inside the bedroom closed shut, leaving Minjeong walking alone towards their bedroom, peeling off her thick clothes one by one as her eyes roaming around nonchalantly.
But then, her interest was brought towards the jar on Jimin's working table, filled with thirty — might be fourty pieces of paper cranes inside them. Curious, Minjeong had set her winter coat on the bed before she took her seat on Jimin's working chair. She had seen the paper cranes before, and Jimin had told her once that she used to write things on the paper cranes. But, Minjeong never try to open any single of them.
Now that she is curious about it.
"Jimin won't kill me if I read this, right?" the soldier turned her head towards the door to their shower where she could hear her wife singing (probably humming) songs.
The bedroom was too dark, so Minjeong had to turn on the table lamp for god sake. Finally, she pulled out the first paper crane at the most top of the jar, opening them gently just enough not to tear the paper apart. She thought it was nothing at first, Jimin might write nonsense things on this.
Well, she is right tho. Jimin really did write nonsense things on this one. This must be the day of Jimin's award.
Dear Minjeong,
I LOVE YOU TO THE MOON AND THE BACK, BUT YOU BIT MY SHOULDER TOO HARD LAST NIGHT, IT BECAME HELLA RED! I'LL KILL YOU!!
Jimin.
"What the hell," Minjeong somehow shrieked in fear. She gonna pretend she did not read that one. The soldier proceeds to the next paper crane. It was the day before Minjeong needed to go to Sirenia for the aids stuff. Her heart warms for this one.
Dear Minjeong,
I am afraid, yeah sure. Who wouldn't? I know I sound so stupid right now. You literally need to go there just to help people with food and stuff, but I couldn't help it. I have my fears, but I need to get used to them. I hope you will be just fine. I love you, always.
Jimin.
A small smile flashed on the soldier's face. Her curiosity gets her stronger and she tries to get deeper and deeper into the jar. She knows now that the deeper it is, the longer Jimin has written this for her. The soldier grab another paper cranes as she unfold them open. If Jimin's writing just now is heartwarming, this time, it is heartbreaking. She could only guess that this was during their fight, before Khurasan.
I hate you!
I fucking hate you, Kim Minjeong!
How could you do this to me!
Minjeong knew she still felt guilty about that day. Hell, she always feels guilty about it, and that is why she is treating her wife better now. Realizing where this paper crane going to bring her, Minjeong's hand surprisingly picked up the one that Jimin had written during the soldier went missing. During she went almost insane, again.
Minjeong was not prepared for Jimin's heartbreaks.
Dear Minjeong,
You should tell me earlier that you are leaving. Now that we only have one day left with each other, how did you expect me not to look at you and cry every time I do? I'm scared, Minjeong. I don't want to lose you, and I don't want to lose myself either — No. I don't want to lose myself again —
Dear Minjeong,
Where have you been? Missing? Are you kidding me? You are not going missing! Tell me they lied to me! Is this some sort of political scheme? If it is, why would they take you? Minjeong, no! You need to get back home! I need you home! You need to be home! You need to be with me! Come back! —
Dear Minjeong,
I know that burnt clothes are yours. You went missing, and now what? Dead? Tell me this is not happening. Tell me this isn't real! God, you shouldn't be cruel to me like this! We just have been with each other for two weeks, and now you took her away from me forever? I am just about to feel how love feels like! I could feel that she was about to be my everything, and now you tell me she is dead? Nonsense! Give me back my wife, I won't forgive the ROKA! I want her! Please give Minjeong back to me —
Dear Minjeong,
It's been almost a month, I am dying here. I want you, Minjeong. I want you back! I love you, please. Come back! You are not dead. Come here, and tell me right to my face that you are not dead! Minjeong, please. I want you back, I am so sorry. I love you so much, I will tell you that. I would tell you that thousands of times, so please come back —
"Minjeong!" Jimin's shouting voice was the only thing that stopped the soldier from keeping going. Minjeong turned her head slowly towards her wife, seeing how Jimin eyes were now wide open in concern, running towards her before cupping the soldier's cheeks worriedly. "Why did you read all of that?"
At this rate, the soldier's eyes automatically flow in tears. She shut her eyes painfully, hands-on Jimin's on cheek before she said in guilt. "I'm sorry."
"No... No, no, no," Jimin shakes her head violently, bending her body to the same level as Minjeong before she hugs her wife desperately. "No, you won't say sorry to me. It's fine, and it is all in the past."
"I'm sorry," nevertheless, the soldier kept crying in her wife's embrace. "I made your life miserable, I am so sorry, Jimin," the soldier's voice hitched between her words — too vulnerable — too fragile in Jimin's eyes. Jimin had seen Minjeong cry before, but it wasn't as painful as this one. "I'm sorry, Jimin. I'm so sorry—"
"Stop crying," Jimin words came out stronger this time, yet still soft in concern, wiping the tears on the soldier's cheeks with her thumbs. "You did not make my life miserable. You made me stronger, and I'm proud of myself. You should know that."
Minjeong didn't reply after that, still crying nonetheless. Jimin finally calms down a bit, still caressing her wife's cheeks with her thumbs. "My captain ain't crying for some mere paper cranes. She is the strongest person I've ever known, and she won't cry over some paper cranes I fold, which is the paper I bought from the stores. Hmm?"
Thankfully, the soldier let out a soft chuckle between her sobs after those words. "But, you cried over my handwritten letters that I wrote on a crumpled paper on the military bus."
"Don't tease me, hey!" Jimin slightly smacks her wife on the shoulder. "That is because I love you, you idiot."
Finally, a small laugh escapes from the soldier's lips. Jimin could sigh in relief now. "Well, this idiot loves you too," Minjeong smiles, pulling the actress closer again for a hug. Her hands circled around her wife's back, stroking them in a soft motion. "If you could turn back time, would you still marry me? We literally met in a hotel room out of accident."
"If I could turn back time, eh?" Jimin laughs at the sudden question, still hugging her wife lovingly. "I am not going to lie, you look hot that night with just your sports bra on top and those army bomber pants. Only the situation doesn't allow me to think that the sight I am seeing at that moment was a good one. So, yeah. I am probably, still going to marry you if I saw you by the roads even."
The soldier chuckles, "Lies."
"I am not lying! Look at yourself! Only stupid would push away a woman as hot as you are, Min— What are you doing?" Jimin's voice rose when she realized her wife just untangled the knots of her bathrobe at her back, letting the ropes go loose slowly. "Kim Minjeong, I swear—"
Minjeong's voice came out low and flirty. "You keep saying how hot I am, why not we could just—"
"No, you are not!" Jimin pushed her wife away by force, holding her bathrobe steady (even tho the parts on her shoulder had already fallen down). "I am not making love with the woman who literally rolled on the snow twenty times an hour earlier, smelling like pavement roads and... snow! Go take a shower!"
The soldier pouts deeply, whining after getting rejected. "Aww... I will take a shower after that then. I need to see you off that bathrobe—"
"Go take a shower, or you'll be sleeping in the guest room tonight!"
"Yes, ma'am."
Nevertheless, Minjeong always gives in, because she loves Jimin, and they love each other. Despite everything, Minjeong was just lucky to find a cute actress to marry with.
