[ᴍɪʀᴀᴄᴜʟᴏᴜs ᴀᴜ] Séraphine

Five hundred years before Marinette stepped out into the world as the heroine Ladybug, another girl was given the same power of the miraculous earrings, but she wasn't exactly sure how a lady of royalty was to turn into a lady of bravery.

"Let's have a run down of tomorrow's schedule, shall we?" Lady Olivia took a seat beside my bedside table, reading a list on her hand as I snuggled deeper into my pillows. "Right. Ten-thirty, you will be meeting up with the Parisian prime minister. He'll be offering you a lovely piece of French jewelry, and you will say?"

"Thank you," I replied rather softly, as I was so close to falling asleep.

"No," she let out a stern warning. "You cannot accept them."

"No, thank you." I sighed, and tossed my head to the other side of the room that had a window overlooking the Notre Dame.

"Next, twelve-twenty, you will have lunch with the Deveraux sisters, two of France's most eligible ladies." She paused for a moment, then continued on. "They'll be offering you a diamond ring, and you'll reply with?"

"No, thank you," I replied, then sat up straight with my dark hair cascading on my chest.

"You can't decline them, my dear," Lady Olivia corrected me once again. "Declining them would be most embarrassing for the two ladies, and—"

"Oh, for once, would you speak to me as if I were a human being, too?" I let out an exasperated sigh, and stood up for the window. The entire city was truly magnificent. A hundred million stars in the sky seemed like they could illuminate the land on their own, along with tiny glowing embers from the candles in each and every home on the streets of Paris. All the people seemed to be happy in where they were, all except me.

"We just got here," I added. "Can't we have a holiday here first? Do I really have to go out and about with my duties from the very first day? This is Paris, after all. Shouldn't I at least get to see the marvelous streets of France first before anything else?"

"Princess, you know why we have come to Paris." She approached me slowly, and took my hand in hers. "You know you must negotiate with the royal family about their motives to conquer our country. You know that you must make a good impression to all of the French first, before attempting to persuade them. Little Angleterre is such a weak country compared to this. As a princess, you know must know what is to be done for your kingdom. I trust that you know what's right, my dear Séraphine."

It has always been engraved in my head that my duty was to my people. Whenever I tried to go do things that would make myself happy, I was always told to sacrifice my own desires for the good of our nation. It was always like that. I was always the one to sacrifice. Never have I ever put anyone else as a priority before my people— not even myself.

I was given the name Séraphine, a fiery name for a young girl. I was taught at a very young age that I was the Princess, and no one else in this world could be as powerful as I was. With my parents brutally murdered when I was six, I was told that I could assume my right to the throne as its rightful queen, but as for now, as I have not come of age, I still remain my kingdom's crown princess. The most powerful of all, but not as of this moment.

My father's cousin became my regent. Uncle Laurent said that he would immediately let go of his position as I turn twenty-one, but the thing is, I don't think I'm anywhere near ready to be queen. I've always known that I was potentially going to be powerful, but I never wanted that kind of power in my hands. I wanted myself to see the change I make in this world right in front of my eyes, and just through my windows. I wanted to interact with the world, not as a princess, but as just myself- just plain, little Séraphine. My cousin, Ayla, thinks I'm rather delirious, as she wondered why I would want to decline the power I had. It's just that, it's not the power I think the world deserves.

A soft knock on the door interrupted my thoughts, and Lady Olivia quickly stood up to get it. Some palace maid had brought over a small dark box and said, "Mademoiselle, this was left at the carriage when you arrived."

She handed me the box, and I replied, "I don't recall having this."

"I just found it inside the carriage, Mademoiselle," she reiterated. "It must have belonged to you, or so I thought."

Lady Olivia took a long, hard look at the box, and said with a smile, "If I can recall correctly, those are one of the heirloom jewelry that your ancestors have had for the past centuries. Perhaps it got mixed in with your belongings, dear?"

"Well, would it be fine for me to keep it?" I asked.

"It depends if you would want it," she replied and motioned the maid to leave. "That can either be the brooch or the earrings, I don't remember which one was left for you."

I clicked open the box and implanted on the velvet cushion was a pair of spotted red stud earrings. "Earrings," I confirmed to her. "They look quite charming."

"Then, that's official." She clasped her hands together. "The heirloom has been passed on to you."

Not too later in that evening, after Lady Olivia has decided to retire to her sleeping quarters, I carefully took out the pair of earrings sitting on its cushion. I brought the tiny red peg up to my nose. This is an heirloom? How special could this spotted piece of red glass be?

I went over to the vanity to try them on. As soon as I slipped on the clutch of the last earring, a burst of red light emerged from them. The light was so bright that I fell from where I was sitting, and I quickly covered my eyes.

This must be an ambush! When the light subsided, I quickly ran towards my door yelling, screaming— then an ever so small voice was what interrupted my escape.

"Wait, Séraphine!" I whipped my head towards the voice, and I saw a floating red blob of a creature with large purple eyes. I screamed more.

"Please stop, Séraphine!" The floating red thing quickly approached me, its tiny hands touching my face. "I'm a friend. My name is Tikki."

"W-what, what are you? How do you know me?" I managed to ask, though my mouth was trembling. I tried to clear my mind out, and my view of the situation kind of cleared out.

The red blob flew around in a somersault as it introduced itself, "I've been waiting for you, princess. I'm a Kwami. I am the guardian of the powerful jewelry you hold now — the Ladybug Miraculous."

"Wait, what?" My eyes nearly fell off my face as Tikki said. "Powerful? B-but, this is just a pair of earrings."

"Yes, but they can transform you into a heroine with the powers of creation," Tikki added with a bright smile. The tiny thing was kind of cute, but me? A heroine?

I am anything but a heroine. I've been built up by everyone around me my entire life, and my only purpose was to become a queen. There is not a single hour in my schedule that I could spare to be the heroine Tikki spoke of.

"A heroine?" I turned away. "I can't... I can't do that. I can't be that."

Tikki flew towards me, her voice calm, "I know this seems like a tough job, Séraphine, but you wouldn't have the Miraculous, if you weren't chosen. I will be here to guide you through this. You are the hope of everyone who is in danger, especially that the Dark Feline is on the loose."

"Who is the Dark Feline?"

"The Dark Feline is also another Miraculous holder," Tikki explained. "He owns the power of your complete opposite — the power of destruction. He is also the only one who could ever defeat you."

"Then what am I for? If he can defeat me, what could I do?" I asked once again, more frantic than I've ever been.

Tikki took a deep breath, "He can destroy, Séraphine, but you can create. You can fix everything that ever gets destroyed. You can heal wounds, and who knows if you can bring someone back to life?"

"Tikki, I'm not cut out for this," I sighed. "I'm a princess. I wear heels, glittering gowns. I drink tea and eat biscuits in the morning. I don't know how to fight some destructive villain. I'm just a girl who's been training for royalty all her life. I don't have the bravery to do so."

"Just give it a try, please," she persuaded. "That's what all the past Ladybug Miraculous holders have said. They've all turned into someone braver when they accepted this responsibility. Please, Séraphine?"

It took me some time to weigh down my options. I did want to help people with my own two hands, but I was afraid I was too prim to be that kind of powerful. And who is this Dark Feline, anyway? Could he be some assassin hired to kill me? I have to know— and there was only one way to find out.

"I will try, Tikki," I said with a soft nod. "I don't know if I could be what you're looking for, but I will try."

"Thank you," Tikki squealed and hugged my face. "First things first, you have to see your transformation."

once again, to be continued... :)

this, too, will also include my headcanon wherein miraculous holders are reincarnated, which means seraphine's soul was also the soul of the past miraculous holder. yes, that is my headcanon. (like the avatar and legend of zelda premise)

anyhoo, this will also include my headcanon wherein the ladybug and chat miraculous holders are bound together for all the eternities that they are reborn. whenever the ladybug soul is born, the chat noir soul is born too. in my headcanon, they are always bound together by their love, and their love is centuries and centuries old... but well, what happened to this era?

we have yet to know :>

p.s: angleterre is 'england' in french, but seraphine is not english, however. i just liked how the word sounds, so therefore that is the name of her country.

p.p.s: i drew the girl on top. i was gonna morph marinette's face, but i got lazy, so i just sketched her out kinda
