[ᴀᴅʀɪᴇɴᴇᴛᴛᴇ] Everything At Once
"Uh, hi Mrs. Dupain-Cheng," Adrien ran a nervous hand through his blonde head. He was at the Dupain-Chengs' bakery— at the ripeness of 9:00 in the morning on a Saturday. "Is Marinette around?"
"Oh, come in, sweetheart," Mrs. Dupain-Cheng greeted the young boy with a warm smile. She always liked it when Adrien came over, and she could barely contain herself whenever she would see her daughter and this boy together. "Have you eaten already?"
"Yes, yes, I have," he nodded and took a seat at one of the stools near the window.
"Marinette should come down any minute," Mrs. Dupain-Cheng laid a plate of fresh croissant on his table. "She's been talking about you like crazy last night."
"Really?" Adrien laughed.
"Honey, could you get the cake for Mr. Blanc in the fridge?" Mr. Dupain-Cheng entered the room. His expression lightened once he spotted Adrien in the corner, "Good morning, Adrien. What brings you in our humble bakery-slash-abode early in the morning?"
"Hello Mr. Dupain-Cheng," Adrien stood up from his stool and bowed down. "I'm here to see Marinette. I planned something for her today."
"Yeah, right. I'm gonna remind you about things again," Marinette's dad started babbling the same set of rules that he already laid down the first time he visited their place.
"Papa!"Marinette emerged from the staircase and wrapped her arms around her father. "You keep on scaring Adrien with your 'Protocols-To-Follow-When-You're-Dating-My-Daughter'. I'm going to be fine, Papa."
"Well, I just reminded him of the things he has to know," her father blushed. "I trust the both of you, so you both can do whatever Adrien here had planned for the day."
Her eyes trailed towards Adrien's bright smile. That sight alone was enough surprise to make her wonderstruck for the entire day. She really didn't expect much from him, really, even though she knew that Adrien could technically buy the entire heaven and earth for her. Material things did not matter to her. Adrien was enough. Being with him for her was everything at once.
"Good morning, my lady," he took her hand and kissed it as he dropped on one knee. "You look quite lovely today."
"Stop it, Cha—... Adrien," she stammered. "C'mon let's go."
"A little too eager are we, Princess?" Adrien took her hand as they exited the bakery. His grip on her was tight—as if he was never ever going to let her go.
"What tricks do you have up on your sleeve for us today, you silly cat?" Marinette's eyes lit up as she giggled.
"That's hardly fun if I tell you now," he snickered and they walked together through the Parisian streets.
She soon found herself standing on the front steps of their high school, back on the place where they began.
He placed his hands on her shoulders— his smile utterly destabilizing her legs, like the very first day.
She could remember it so vividly. The rain was pouring hard like heavy heartbroken tears from the sky. As clumsy and forgetful as she was, she forgot to bring an umbrella for the day. She already settled herself to wait out for the rain to cease, and then he came.
It wasn't just an umbrella that he gave to her that night. It was so much more... friendship, and this whole new feeling that she couldn't ever comprehend— love.
Adrien's green eyes were focused on Marinette's blues. He knew he had to tell it to her today. He knew that he had to ask it to her today.
Ever since she literally fell for him out of the blue, he knew that that queer girl in a polka-dotted suit was the girl he'd want to spend his eternity with. Imagine his surprise when he finally discovered that the brave heroine he knew and the shy girl from his class were the very same person, all bottled up in a beautiful, wonderfully crazy girl he came to know as Marinette.
His breathing became heavy, and his mind started to cloud with thoughts. He knew that it was time to finally tell her. And he was going to.
"Wha-What are we doing here, Adrien?" Marinette asked.
Adrien pulled her close— a nervous smile on his face.
"Mari," Adrien started out. "It's been seven long years since we met. It's been seven long years since I first started loving you. And it's been seven long years since I realized that there's no one I'd rather be than to be your partner in life."
Marinette's eyes started to turn glassy, and she breathed faster as if she was running in her place.
"You've made me so happy, my lady," he continued. "And I'd like to be more than Chat Noir, a partner in crime, in your life."
He kept his smile as he dropped down to one knee.
She brought her hands to cover the mixed emotions she had on her face. People around them were starting to crowd over. Adrien fixed his gaze upon her as he reached into his pocket. In that moment, Marinette knew that this day was going to be one of the best moments in her life.
"My lady, you've been my princess for seven years," he brought out a hexagonal box— similar to the box where their miraculouses came from.
He took a deep breath, "Now, will you do me the honor of becoming my queen?"
Marinette burst into tears as he revealed a gorgeous silver ring with a red and green yin & yang gem. She had been waiting long enough for him to say it.
She fell down on her knees and tightly embraced him— nodding and repeatedly saying "Yes!"
Adrien hugged her tight and spun her in the air, his eyes starting to tear up as well.
"I love you, Marinette," he whispered to her, and it was just as easy as breathing. "With or without the mask."
She suddenly pressed her lips into his, which merely caught him by surprise. Her arms wrapped around his neck, and he responded as well by tightening his embrace on her waist.
When they broke apart, Marinette whispered, "I love you, too, Adrien. So much."
