Chapter 1: Turns Out I'm a god...
I yawned as I sat in my room, playing video games. I was bored and nothing seemed to be entertaining me. So naturally, I decided to go out to the living room, where my roommate was watching T.V.
My name is Nano. Weird name, I know, but my parents were really into sci-fi stuff, so I guess it makes sense. I'm an 18 year old man with shoulder length brown hair that couldn't be straightened by any amount of combing. My eyes were dark blue and I wore comfortable clothes: grey sweatpants and an extra large T-shirt that was too big for me, but still comfy. This was my preferred style, since I liked being comfortable over good looking, so I wasn't picky about clothes.
Anyway, I'm a high school graduate, and moved out of my parents' house soon after graduation, getting an apartment with my long time friend and roommate, Drake. Maybe it wasn't wise to move out so soon, but we were making it work.
As I entered the living room, I saw Drake fiddling with the antenna. We didn't have the money for cable yet, so we used a crappy antenna that only got a few channels. Sometimes, not even a few. Usually it only got static. Drake adjusted it for the hundredth time before he snapped and slammed the antenna on the ground hard, nearly breaking it. He then sat in his chair angrily staring at the static screen. I grabbed a soda out of the fridge and sat down in the chair beside him. Suddenly the T.V. came in almost perfect, showing a game show.
"How do you DO that?" Drake asked surprised.
"Do what?" I asked.
"That!" he pointed powerfully at the show. I looked, seeing a winning contestant on the show get his prize.
"I didn't give that guy a new car." I gave off a smart remark.
"Seriously, this happens all the time." Drake groaned, "Some crap stops working for me and the moment you walk in it's all better."
"Huh..." I pondered, opening my soda and taking a drink, "Guess somebody up there likes me. By the way this is the last soda. I'm gonna go get some more from the store later."
"You do that." Drake nodded.
Sometime later I walked down to the store and bought a 2 liter and a box of soda. I chugged from the 2 liter as I walked down the street, but paused as I felt the fizz go straight up into my nostrils with a burning sensation, an ungodly feeling that was sure to make anyone uncomfortable. As I coughed a bit to try and get the fizz out of me, I felt the ground rumble a bit beneath me. I steadied myself, then kept walking as I drank some more soda. Then the ground shook again, more violently this time, causing me to fall back as soda splashed all over my face and clothes. I groaned in embarrassment. Minor Earthquakes were fairly common in my area, so this was more annoying than anything else. I began to get up, but the earth shook a third time. This time it was followed by what sounded like thunder. Now this was getting weird, so I decided to get up and walk home quickly.
Just before I got home, the ground shook one more time. This time, I realized it wasn't a natural earthquake as I saw the thing causing it. It seemed to be a gargantuan black creature. It seemed like some kind of enormous lizard with several heads, each head glaring at me with pure red eyes.
"What the..." I breathed, looking at this seemingly mythological beast. It opened its mouths and let out a scream that sounded like thunder. My ears were ringing with pain from such a loud noise so close. I covered my ears and ran. This had to be a nightmare of some kind, but even so the beast was really freaking scary.
As I hid behind some cover, hoping the monster would leave, I noticed I felt wet all of a sudden. I looked down to see the ground for miles around had a thin blanket of water, which was quickly building up to waist-level flooding.
'Chased by a monster and now drowning... What a cliche nightmare...' I thought as the water rapidly rose over my head. I held my breath, floating in the ocean that was my hometown only minutes ago. 'Hold on...' I thought, 'This is just a dream. I can't drown.' I let out my breath, sending bubbles to the surface. But I soon realized I really couldn't breathe. I felt horrified as it seemed, this wasn't a dream. I looked over at the monster, which seemed to be caught in some kind of underwater tornado, which tore the creature apart piece by piece. If my lungs weren't screaming for air, I would've thrown up. Before long, my vision was clouded in black as I passed out.

"-This small town was ravaged, as you can see, by a series of earthquakes followed by the biggest flood ever recorded in that area. Fortunately, there were no casualties, but-"
As I slowly slipped back into consciousness, I heard the voice of some news lady. I woke up in a bed, my whole body feeling sore. I was in a strange room with a T.V. on the wall showing a news channel showing my waterlogged home.
"Good, you're awake." a voice said. I looked to see a woman entering. She looked like she was in her early to mid thirties, and had long red hair done in a ponytail. She wore oval glasses and some kind of suit-like clothes (I was never good at telling the difference with different clothes). "I'm sorry about the... incident." she apologized, "I knew Lex wasn't ready for a matter as delicate as recruiting, I shouldn't have sent her."
"Who are you...?" I asked, stretching as the bones in my arms and back cracked.
"Ah yes, introductions." she said, pushing her glasses up the bridge of her nose, "I am Professor Eden. I'm the principal of this school here."
"What school?" I questioned.
"This is Pantheon High," Miss Eden answered, "It's a high school for people like you."
"People like me?" I rose an eyebrow, "What the heck do you mean by that? And I already graduated from High School."
"Heh, this isn't quite like other schools." Miss Eden chuckled lightly, "It's one for people like you. Special individuals."
"You keep saying people like me but that doesn't explain anything." I sighed.
"... Then I guess I'll be blunt." she began, "You, Nano, are a god."
My eyes widened. Not out of such an amazing revelation, I was just surprised this lady thought I'd buy such a dumb prank.
"...What?" I asked, deciding to see where this dumb prank would go.
"You heard me." she nodded, "You're a god, same as the ones in Greek and Norse Mythologies and such."
"Uh huh..." I said.
"This'll go a lot smoother if you stop thinking this is a prank from your friend Drake." she sighed, but I just rolled my eyes. "Fine, then I'll prove it to you." suddenly, electricity shot from her hands and came at me. I flinched in surprise, but the sparks didn't hit me. Instead they just hovered in front of my face. It then danced around my head. I shook my head.
"Huh... nice magic trick." I said. To prove this was fake I held my hand in front of the spark. To my unpleasant surprise, when it touched me I felt myself get zapped. "Whoa!" I exclaimed and looked at Miss Eden, who now had electricity dancing around her.
"Convinced?" She asked with a very slight smirk. I froze, and nodded my head slowly.
"Good." she smiled, "Follow me." I nodded again and walked with her.
As Miss Eden and I left the room, I found we really were in some kind of school. There were plenty of students walking down the hall, dressed in uniform and carrying their things in bookbags and... whatever else people use to carry school things.
"As I said before, this is Pantheon High." Miss Eden continued, "This is one of the schools that teaches young gods like yourself."
"One of...?" I echoed.
"Yes." She nodded, "There are several main schools for teaching gods."
"Okay..." I began, "Assuming you really aren't screwing with me, what god am I?"
"That's a rather complicated matter." she began, "See, each student is the new god of something different. For most students, it takes weeks or even months to find what they're the god of. But in your case, it seems obvious that you're the new god of invention."
"Okay..." I began, ignoring the fact that god of invention didn't even sound like a real thing, "But if I was some god all my life wouldn't I know?"
"You weren't a god all your life." Miss Eden sighed, as if this were the thousandth time she explained this, "Contrary to popular belief, gods aren't invincible. When a god dies, their power is reincarnated into a human, turning that human into a god. Two years ago, the previous god of invention was killed."
"Two years...?" I asked. Two years ago was around the time technology started working better around me.
"So you're finally starting to see it yourself, Hmm?" Miss Eden asked with a light smile, "Ever since the last god of invention's death, reconnaissance has shown that you have subconsciously used some of their powers. This is how I know you're one of us." I gulped a bit.
"You... you said this started two years ago." I began, "Why not bring me here then...?"
"We had to wait for you to mature." Miss Eden answered simply, pushing her glasses up, "Everyone that attends Pantheon High must be at least 18 years of age. At the very least, so that you can consent."
"Consent?" I echoed.
"Of course." Miss Eden said, "We're not kidnappers. We give our students the choice to attend. If you want, you can go back to your home, live amongst humans, and you won't remember anything I've told you today. But if you want to attend Pantheon High, learn to control your powers and become a god, we will be happy to have you."
I naturally wanted to go home immediately, but I paused to think on what I'd be returning to. Back home, I could hardly hold down a job, girls didn't seem to care for me, and I didn't really do much else but exist. With that in mind, it didn't seem like I'd be missing much from my old life.
"Okay..." I nodded, "I think I wanna try this out."
Miss Eden smiled, "I'm glad to hear that Nano. I'll show you to your room. You can begin your tour tomorrow."
And so she led me to a room where I guess I'd be living now. It was a pretty basic and bare room, clearly no one had lived in it for a while. I didn't really have anything, but Miss Eden gave me some supplies and a black bookbag to start me off, then left. I lay in my new bed staring at the ceiling. This was by far the weirdest day of my life so far...
