Chapter 13: Pan and the Grimwore wolves
UNEDITED: Sorry for the mistakes
Back in the Mainland Forest
Pan's black brows furrowed in her sleep as a ray of light hit her eyelids. Shaking her head, she rolled over pulled the covers over her body. That did not lull her back into her sweet slumber however and she continued to twist and turn before giving up.
Exhaling loudly she pulled the covers down. She was laying on the soft beige couch at the bottom of Sam's bed and the room was shrouded in darkness save the small ray of light that had peeked in through the thick brown drapes shining down upon her like a spotlight on a stage. It gave the room a peaceful feeling as it landed on Pan's beautiful thick black hair that fell down her shoulders in waves. She stared at it and inhaled deeply stretching her arms and arching her back as she always did every morning.
Mid-stretch and yawn she her eyes flickered to the bed in front of her. Childlike snores could be heard coming from under the blanket where Sam was snuggled deeply in a soft duvet. Untangling her legs from the blanket she steadily put one foot down on the cold wooden floor the other one quickly following. Instantly she missed the warmth of the couch but, one had to what one had to do.
Walking carefully to Sam's bedside she peered at his little sleeping face protruding from the covers he had untucked and pulled over his head in his sleep. Pan gazed at him and smiled softly. Reaching out her hand, she gently brushed the golden hair off of his forehead. He looked so peaceful and serene she mused. And in those few minutes of tranquility she sat watching his calm face devoid of hardships and suffering, sleeping deep and comfortably without a care in the world.
But soon, the tender expression on her face was demolished by her eyebrows as they drew together sharply. The depraved harshness of her reality crashed down upon her. This was temporary, soon there will be chaos and mayhem, her babe would have to grow up faster than she wanted him to. They could no longer return to their peaceful home, taintbloods where after them, and to make matters worse, a Grimwore Alpha wolf was her mate. She sighed heavily and walked to the bathroom, the beautiful spell of harmonious peace, gone.
Once in the bathroom she pulled off her shirt and looked into the mirror above the sink. Green eyes looked back at her. Her proudest asset. They were the color of emeralds with the barest hints of gold or as Doe had so nicely put it well watered grass.
Delicately crowned by black arched brows, below her eyes a straight nose and plump bow shaped lips that seemed to be stained red. Dark black hair waved and curled in tendrils over her forehead and down her back, it looked like a nest, she had the worst bed head.
Her skin was pale, but she didn't miss the circles under her eyes that told how stressful the last 24 hours had been. Taking off the rest of her clothes she pushed back the shower curtain and stepped in. One quick look at the shower head told her that along with recreating the house Doe had added some extra things. A turbo power 30000 shower head looked back at her from the wall. She set the spray setting to massage and stood under the rain of water letting all it melt all her worries away.
After showering she came out to Doe shouting a reminder that breakfast was almost ready and she had better get down before he was done. Hurrying her go out and dried herself with a towel before wrapping it around her and walking out of the bathroom. The next two minutes was spent getting dressed, brushing her hair with one hand and grabbing underwear, a tank top, black cargo pants, with the other she moved around the room trying not to wake Sammy. She slipped on her underwear very awkwardly under her towel and paused her brushing long enough to slip on the rest.
By the time she had finished her hair was back to its silky wavy tresses twisting it she pulled it into a hasty bun before slapping a cap over it. She reached back in her closet and grabbed a red checkered buttoned down shirt that she put on over her tank top not bothering to button it. Last came her boots, black leather and calf length they were her favorite. All kinds of things could be hidden in them and her pants legs were long enough to cover them till her ankles.
Walking over to the bed she shook Sammy.
"Get up honey, it's almost twelve and your uncle Doe is cooking breakfast. Go wash your face, " she said smiling at his sleepy expression.
"I'm tired," he groaned pulling the covers over his head. "Can I sleep for a little while longer?"
Pan laughed softly. "Nope, hurry up don't you smell the bacon, there won't be any left if you if you sleep any longer,"
Sam realized he did smell bacon and Thrall was yapping at him to wake up. Pushing the blankets of his head he did just that. His golden blond hair was a mess going in every direction but down, his sky blue eyes were blinking rapidly. Pan ran a hand through his soft hair putting it to right again, rubbed his back.
"Go wash your face and brush your teeth," She said with a little more authority, Sam knew that tone from his mom meant she was serious and he got up. "How is Thrall by the way?" she asked when he got out the bed.
"He's okay, it just feels weird when he talks to me."
"Is he nice to you?" she asked quickly making up the bed.
"Yep, he's really nice. Say mom, is he going to stay with me forever, because I want him to. He says he will but I'm asking you." He said turning his blue innocent eyes on her.
Squatting down to his level she looked him in his eyes and cupped his face in her hands, "yes sweetheart, he will stay with you forever and he will protect you whenever you need him and I will protect you both okay?"
His eyes lit up with child innocence and he smiled happy with her answer, his mom always knew everything," he thought, Thrall agreed. With that he ran into the bathroom and closed the door behind him.
Pan shook her head with a small smile on her face, just as she about to leave the room she stopped mid stride. She looked back at her black duffle bag in the corner of the room. Something was wrong, she was not in danger but something whispered to her, urging her to take her weapons, but why? The roaring blood that always rushed to her ears whenever she was in danger didn't come, nor did she feel the sickly ominous twist of her gut warning her that something bad was going to happen. No, nothing. It was just an awareness, as if her weapons were calling her to arm herself. She succumbed deciding that never had her instincts been wrong and if her inner self told her she should be armed then she would. Seven throwing knives, a hatchet and two shot guns hid themselves in her cloths, once satisfied she made her way downstairs.
Silence greeted her, all that could be heard was the clinking of silverware on plates when she came down the stairs. Doe was nowhere in sight. Alpha Zachariah Grimwore sat on a stool at the kitchen bar his pack members surrounding him with bowed heads they all seemed to be helping themselves from Doe's wonderful breakfast. They all looked up her staring with curiosity, all except Magen who looked at Pan with barely hidden contempt. Katarina smiled but it was not returned, instead Pan gave her a hardly perceptible nod, she had helped Sammy last night Pan would give her that.
"Luna." Sasha raised his glass in greeting. It was ill received, Pan's skin prickled with disgust at the repulsive title, however she effectively hid her reaction as she walked by to the refrigerator.
"I am not your Luna, don't call me that," She bit.
Sasha flinched at the harshness of her tone before his gaze flickered briefly to Zachariah, his blue were watching her like a hawk.
Even though her back was turned to him she could feel his gaze burning into her back, mocking, laughing and ridiculing her, the prickling from earlier returned, not quite in danger but something was telling her to tread with caution.
Pan found him very amusing, his arrogance was very laughable. It rolled off him in waves, a wolf who was used to people jumping before he even told them to. She doubted that he would just go without trying something but she would be ready for him, yes indeed. The new threat to Sammy made her life a little more complicated, what she must do was very difficult but it must be done. Alpha Grimwore and his pack of wild dogs were of very little consequence, nothing will come between her and keeping her son safe. Finally she pulled what she was looking for out the back of the fridge. Red bull, it really did give you wings. Pulling it open she threw back her head and drank deeply unfortunately she was forced to stop when Doe flew in the kitchenette looking at her like she had a glass of blood in her hand.
"What in the world are you doing?" He shouted hysterically. "Before breakfast, not even a bite?" he scolded wrenching the can from her hands, splashes fell from the can staining her hands red. For some reason this put Doe in even more of tizzy.
"No, no, no!" he shouted, Dragging her over to the sink, he ran the tap water over her hands franticly. "This is poison you hear me, I will allow it any time but not before breakfast okay?" He implored looking deeply into her eyes. The wolves watched on with hidden amusement.
Pan fought the strong urge to roll her eyes, she had forgotten how dramatic and hysterical Doe was. It had been such a long time since she had lived with him and his extreme dislike for energy drinks of all kind had slipped her mind. So she merely nodded and walked to the table where the Alpha was shamelessly watching her cautiously.
She held his regard, once again the occupants of the room faded as they held each other's gaze. Each willing the other to submit, each showing their dominance and fortitude. Zachariah willed the human to bow to him and Pan assessed him fully calculating his danger level, risk and strengths. She didn't even stop when Doe put a plate of food and a tall mug of coffee in front of her, she simply picked the cup up and took a long generous sip. Years of drinking hot scalding coffee had made her immune to the burning. She put it down and continued to look at him.
Pan looked into his turquoise blue eyes, they burned with scorn. He was arrogant, self-confidant, sitting there as if nothing phased him. So sure of himself she mused, so confident in his plan. His wolves were probably under orders to jump her on the way out, a vehicle was most likely waiting for them now.
Yes, that was it, she established privately.
She had known werewolves all her lives, they never left what they had self-proclaimed as their property. That same notion is what made the alpha snake Deval chase her across states, because he had deemed her his possession, just like a piece of furniture, to be moved, carried and used in whatever way the owner pleased. But just as Deval, Alpha Grimwore underestimated her and just as Deval he would fail. Not once did she underestimate him, her mind's eye recalled the power of his wolf, the swiftness and speed he used to kill the taintbloods and gutted the changeling. Yes he was strong, someone worthy of testing her strength. Never had she wished to kill someone more than the man in front of her. The feeling burned through her veins like hot lava, Pan was no stranger to pain she brushed off the feeling like a bothersome fly her pupils narrowing into his face watching his every reaction.
"It's almost twelve Alpha Grimwore," She spoke breaking the silence, it did nothing for the thick apprehensive atmosphere. It heightened tenth fold, Gavan and Gavin swallowed loudly as everyone in the room continued to look at the two.
They both looked so casually at each other as if discussing the weather almost unbothered, but the strange dangerous atmosphere told another story. Sasha had never felt two people with such powerful aura, it wrapped around him choking them in terror. He looked on to his Luna and Alpha, each refusing to back down. His Luna's intense green eyes watched Zachariah's every move and Zachariah was watching hers.
Zachariah waited sometime before answering her looking on with sarcastic amusement.
"I am well aware of the time. You made it quite clear that, how did you put it?" He asked rhetorically his face taking on an expression of mock confusion. "Yes, check out is at twelve that was it." He smiled slowly sardonically. "Trust me, we will be leaving soon."
Pan caught his full meaning, her lips raised at the corner in the same manner a plastic mannequin might, a smile that never reached her searching observant eyes. Pushing her fork into her now cold food she bought it up to her lips ate, her eyes never left his as she slowly chewed and swallowed.
"She knows," Ezekiel Zachariah's wolf growled.
"Yes she does." Zachariah agreed.
"She is very strange Zachary, her eyes are bothersome, they see too much. She is a Protector she has great power over the wolves. I urge you to wait and take your time Zachary, she might be strong."
"It was you who condemned her as a human. Her status as this protector you speak of has not changed that. She belongs with us. Tell me you are not turning soft, thinking that whatever she is is stronger than us," Zachary hissed behind his mask of calm.
"Don't be foolish Zachary I said no such fabrications. She will come with us."
"Her strength is quite interesting, she is under the illusion that she won't cower underneath me. Fate has disgraced us with a human mate, I will not give her the same respect due to a female wolf. She will fall at my feet," He spoke his final words softly. "Such bravery will be crushed, and her disrespect disciplined."
Suddenly the tension dispersed when the boy came downstairs and the woman's attention was rest from him, her head turned sharply to the golden haired boy forgetting all about their match. Zachariah's eyes flickered in annoyance.
Pan looked towards Sammy and shook her head slightly signaling him to go back upstairs, turning to Doe she signaled to him to bring her son a plate. Doe meekly followed, he knew what happened when Pan got like this, and boy was the Grimwore dude going to get it.
"Come on Sammy let's go upstairs and eat." He said cheerfully.
They watched the pair walk up the stairs, when they were gone Pan turned back to Alpha Grimwore.
"Would you look at that Alpha Grimwore, it seems that the clock has just struck twelve. I wish you and your pack a safe journey," She said getting up and opening the front door.
Zachariah looked up at her getting up with painstaking slowness, he signaled to the others to get up and follow him. Dislodging themselves from the stools the wolves got up and walked to the door standing in front of her. They all looked at her their eyes sharp and feral, the aura that was coming off of them could freeze a man in terror, the room was thick with it, she understood why they were the strongest, she could imagine them tearing through their enemies like melting putty. Only Katarina couldn't meet her eyes, she simply smiled apologetically and looked away.
Pan knew all about them but they knew nothing her, they didn't know that she was the daughter and only child of the warrior assassin wolf Misha, they didn't know that her mother had taught her to kill then ask. Her mother had even garnered the respect of Alpha Grimwore's father himself before himself. She was known for fighting in her human form, very rarely had she transformed into her wolf, her mother would take on ten wolves at the same time killing with speed and accuracy that scared her enemies far and wide, all without transforming into her wolf. Her mother was unstoppable and she had not left without imparting all of her knowledge to her beloved daughter.
That's another thing her mother believed in, she use to tell her that she would be a strong warrior and Pan used to believe her. Now she didn't, but one thing hadn't changed and that was the legacy she had left her. They would never take her alive, blood coursed faster though her veins, the thrill of the approaching fight kicking up her adrenalin, she had never got to test herself with a worthy opponent but now she would. Pan nodded for them to exit and they did.
The sun shone bright and beautiful its rays warming the faded grass but the wolves nor Pan seemed to notice. They walked towards the barrier and Pan gave the permission to cross, she crossed with them. As soon as she stepped over the barrier the clearing disappeared and so did the sun.
They stepped into the dark forest, very little light shone through the leaves making the eyes of the wolves glow a sinister metallic blue, the color of the wolves of Grimwore. They surrounded her in an arch. Pan took of her shirt revealing a slim sculpted waist and arms in a black tank top and casually put her hands in her pockets, she brushed the cold metallic gun nestled there before she grabbed it flexing her fingers around the handle and settling her trigger finger in its place. Her eyes never left the wolves in front of her and their's never left hers. The Grimwore Alpha stood in the middle watching her his form tall and taught made even more intimidating by the black Celtic tattoos that covered everything from his shoulder blades to the tips of his fingers, his eyes glowed and finally he spoke.
"You have two choices, one, we drag you by the roots of your hair before knocking you out and taking you with us without your son. Or two, you can come with us and bring your pup with you, I will even overlook your adultery."
What Pan did next made the wolves flinch and Alpha Zachariah furrow his brows. The corners of Pan's lips twitched slightly before slowly widening into a menacing smile.
Turning slightly to the beta, she pointed her gun still in the pocket of her cargo pants at him and pulling the trigger twice lodging two silver bullets into his calves. With a snarl Sasha fell to the forest floor and all the wolves eyes riveted to him in horror. Katarina let forth a shrill scream and dropped to his body to help him.
Magen was the first to recover, with eyes glazed over in hate she ran lunging herself at Pan. Pan exhaled, her hands in fighting stance ready to grab Magen when she finally landed.
Time slowed down and her mind sharpened, her senses honed she could hear smell, and feel everything around her, suddenly she could hear her mother's voice clear in her mind, "focus that is all you must do. Breathe and take in everything around. The slower you breathe the sharper your focus and the slower time becomes. You are the predator, they are the prey. Analyze, calculate, leave nothing out."
Pan watched Magen coming at her mid lunge, she was clouded in anger her hands reaching out to strangle Pan leaving her whole body wide open for any sort of attack. Pan's nerves rippled as she felt her training kick in, her pupils dilated. Just as Magen was about to wrap her hands around her neck, with lightning speed Pan used her left hand to grab Magen's left arm, folding her right finger into her palm she steeled her hands pulling back her arm before jabbing it into Magen's unprotected ribs and pulling her down to the ground.
Magen had but a fraction of a second when she landed to look up before Pan kicked her out cold. The forest was in silence, the remaining wolves stared at her in shock. The twins backed up slowly nervous looks on their faces, Katarina continued to tend to her mate who was looking at Pan through his pain. Who on earth was she and what had they gotten themselves into? Everything he had previously suspected was right, she always moved with a certain ease, inspected a room before she entered and looking around intently with caution. Now she stood with two silver blades in her hands and the gamma of the Grimwore pack at her feet. The cap she had worn previously was gone now, tendrils of hair escaping her bun her eyes an eerie green. When she had neutralized Magen her hands had move with inhuman speed and accuracy, he barely caught the move. His eyes swiveled to his alpha who seemed to be realizing the seriousness of the threat at hand. Zachariah's eyes were firmly fixed on Megan, his expression impassive, slowly he looked up at the Luna.
She shifted her weight to her left leg and twirled the blades in her hands once, looking at Zachariah fearlessly. She stood tall, her long limbs making her looking even taller. Slim, clothed in black, she looked like a warrior, an assassin.
"So Alpha Grimwore will you hide behind your pack or will you face me like a man," She asked her voice casualyvraised in question.
"Who are you?" Zachariah asked unfolding his arms.
"I don't think that matters very much," She emphasized her words with a wave of her blade.
Grimwore walked up to her and they began circling each other slowly with their hands raised in fighting stance, each waiting for the other to throw the first hit. Grimwore tested the waters with a quick jab to her sides. Pan bought her hand down grabbing his wrist and twisting it, before she could flip him over he snatched his hand back raising them both in fighting stance once more.
They began to circle around each other again eyes glued to every movement. This time Pan slashed at him twice before he backed up blocking each blow. The circling period was over the two killers went head in. Pan raised both of her blades slashing at his body left and right in furious speed, Grimwore parried as fast as she slashed twisting and turning out of her way, dodging every cut. They moved like dancers, following each's moves to perfection. Bringing up his leg he kicked her in her stomach, right as the blow pushed her she brought down her blade and sliced his leg. The silver hissed as it made contact with his flesh and so did he. His blow pushed her back, she dug her heels into the ground steadying herself as the Alpha did the same, she threw a quick analytical glance at his body and was just as surprised to see him standing unaffected as he was to see her unwinded by his kick.
She raised her blades in front of her crossing her arms. She could find no fault in him, his fighting style was perfect so far they had landed one blow each, it seemed as if the alpha of the Grimwore lived up to his reputation.
They lunged at each other once again he came close to her, too close for a man who had been skillfully avoiding her blades until now. Within seconds Pan was proven right. She raised her hands as he stood less than a foot away ready to sink her blade into his flesh. In slow motion right before her body collided with his and her knife pierced his shoulder he moved his left foot across his right turning his body so his back was facing her.
Startled Pan hesitated, he elbow wrenched her using his shoulder, squatting he applied more pressure on her arm before body slamming her over his shoulder. She flew over him and just before she landed she brought her legs down breaking her fall into a squat. Dropping her blade, she held on to his arm turning around and pulling him towards her, their bodies flushed moving against each other as they inhaled and exhaled rapidly.
Their breaths mingled blowing out in rough blasts on each other's faces, they could feel each other's heart beating through their chest and their eyes met, she pushed her hand forward running her other blade threw his left side. Grimwore gave a hiss of pain through clenched teeth as they hit the ground. Pan spread her legs letting Grimwore fall between them, and wrapped her them around his waist before jerking her body upwards and rolling him on to his back. Knocking the blade out of her hands Zachariah rendered her weaponless.
Straddling him she moved for her fallen blade only a foot away from her when he grabbed her arms. They begin to wrestle for the blade twisting and turning they fought. Zachariah finally grabbed it and Pan used her knee to knee him in his wound. He growled through the pain and in one final attempt to get the knife away from her threw it.
Pan simply pulled out the gun in her pocket and placed it at his temple. Zachariah froze and looked up at her. His lengthy black hair was swept back and a thin sheen of sweat on his white skin made him look as if he was glistening.
His menacing mask was gone in its place was a look of utter surprise, his turquoise eyes were wide and his mouth agape. He seemed to be asking how. Just as quick as the expression came it left. His mouth closed and his face assumed an emotionless stance, only his eyes had changed. Gone was the mocking glint, gone was the arrogant glazed, it its place stood an emotion that Pan could swear was respect. He looked at the gun and then back at her, all of a sudden a strange feeling began piercing Pan's battle steel. She tried to push it back but annoyingly it pushed back, suddenly she was very aware the hard toned muscular abs that was directly under her rear end she gritted her teeth in annoyance and focused on the gun and Grimwore.
The twins who had been frozen all this time thawed when they saw that their Alpha had lost and had a gun pointed to his temple, they advanced just as Sasha attempted to get up only to fall back into his mate's arms.
"Will you kill me?" Zachariah spoke his foreign accent ringing dangerously in her ear.
Her response was to tighten her finger on the trigger.
Katarina shouted frantically, "no don't."
Pan ignored her.
"You owe me for helping your son. If that means anything to you, don't do it. He is the Alpha of the Grimwore Pack and your mate, you can't be so heartless as to kill him."
Pan's eyes narrowed hearing what Katarina had said. She did owe her for what she did, and as much as she wanted to pull the trigger she knew that the consequences of his death would not be pretty, they would hound her down and kill her. Not only did she kill their Alpha but her mate as well. Even with all her hatred she knew the gravity of such crimes, she would not stoop as low as them. She pushed herself up and walked back to the barrier leaving a tensed but relieved atmosphere. Rusletling leaves signaled Grimwore getting up.
"Only because of the debt I owe to you will I let him go, but remember this," she said turning and looking at Katarina. "Your debt is paid, if your Alpha comes after me again I will not hesitate."
"You hate him so?" Katarina asked in a small voice.
Pan turned around and put one foot through the barrier, "I hate all werewolves except my son. It's nothing personal," She said in a low voice her eyes fixed on the hedge of stones.
Turning sharply she looked at Zachariah Grimwore with unhostile green eyes. "Go home Grimwore and find another mate who will be more appreciative of you. I have always given credit where it is due, you were are worthy opponent." And with that she stepped over the barrier and it disappeared taking the hope of ever seeing the strange woman again with it, but Zachariah knew fate well enough, they will meet again, and even though he had gone about getting her the wrong way she would still be his Luna, he will accept no other.
None had bested him in battle but his father, and no had ever had the effect that she had on him. He had made a mistake he would protect her, honor her as his mate because she and he were very much alike, he also gave credit where it was do. She was more than worthy as his Luna. With a grin that scared his conscious pack members he picked up the sleeping Magen and threw her over his shoulder.
"Sasha, contact smith and inform him we will be staying in America a little while longer."
"Yes alpha."

Sooo this is the new chapter. I hope you guys like it. What do you think of Pan and Zachary's relationship? What do you think of this chapter in general? Comment and tell me your thoughts. I don't know, this might be the last chapter for awhile. My computer has crashed and now I'm on a family member's who most definitely will kill me if they found out. But meh, the things I would do for my passion.
