Part 4:The Sorting
It was even worse than I thought. No sentences or essays or whips or anything like that. What the punishment really was way worse than anybody ever imagined. Babysitting.
The detention supervisor (Warden) told us that the Kindergarteners had no one to watch them, because the teacher had to check out early since her son had to go to the hospital for a broken arm and nose.
The warden put us in groups of two with five kids per group. I waited apprehensively for him to call my name.
"Helena Reeves with," he stopped to nod in my direction.
No. No. Please not him! Anybody but him! I thought urgently. Anybody but Jayce, please!
"Jayce Dansiz," he said with an evil grin, as if he read my mind. "You two will be in charge of Amy, Rory, Tyler, Donna, and Clara."
Jayce started walking towards me with a smile on his face, as if he was very happy with this arrangement. Did this mean he liked me? Or did he like the kids we were responsible for?
I froze, stiff as a Abnegation. He smile disappeared when he saw the look on my face, which was probably pure horror. I tried to put on a winning smile, but his had been completely wiped from his face by the look I was giving him.
Pity. I thought it was cute.
