Part 1:Detention
"Helena. Helena! Pay attention!" called out Mrs. Seal, the 10th grade math teacher, for the fourth time this segment."Do the problems on the board!"
"You're the teacher. Why can't you figure it out?" I dared to ask. "'You are smart.' That's what my mom tells me."
"Detention!" She was the third person this week to give me detention.
"Why?" asked a strange emu boy sitting in the back of the room."All she did was tell you to figure out the problems yourself."
He had shoulder length hair and it was obvious he had dyed it dark auburn with teal tipped dyed bangs. He had deep blue eyes that you could be lost in very quickly. He was shortish, but still taller than me.
"Jayce! You too! Detention after school today!" she paused to look around dramatically," Anyone want to join them? Put your hand down Sheldon."
And it all started like that. I knew right then that I wanted him to be my one and only.I wanted to sit there and daydream about after school today for hours, but my best friend Rose nudges me with her elbow to bring me back down to Earth.
Rose Sickle is a super genius, and excels in all her classes. I would too, if I actually cared. She has long, straight, jet black hair that reaches just above her ankles, opposed to my shoulder length, curly bleached blonde tresses. Her hazel eyes shine with knowledge, as always, and her clever smile spreads ear to ear. Rose might look short when she slouched over whatever she's working on, but don't let that fool you. When standing, she is almost six feet tall. She worked furiously on the problems on the board, and easily finished all 50 in about three minutes.
"What was that all about?!?" Rose whispered sharply after she was done with math."At this rate we are never going to see each other again except during class, which you are in isolation for most of the time!"
"Don't worry," I assured her," I'll work harder on 'behaving' " That was partially true. I would work harder, but I never said my behavior would get any better. I really was trying, half the time. Sometimes I really was good and payed attention, but most of the time... not so much. It wasn't that I was a bad kid, I just didn't try to be good. I wasn't paying attention to rest of class, but I was really looking forward to detention. And I swear, I will probably never say that again.
She looked at me suspiciously, but turned away to work on the new problems on the Promethean Board.
I sat, once again ignoring the math, daydreaming about 3 and half hours later.
**A/N: I know up top it says emu, just pretend it says emo. It's an inside joke between my friends and I.**
