21│ Plan Execution!

Part 1

The whistling sound enveloped the entire floor while overlapping echoing footsteps followed. It was a day for the Phantoms to proceed with their leads and carry out their plans.

As expected, it was not an easy task to investigate a palace. The hallways were never empty, as it was always filled with guards. They tried their best to not get any attention, but at times, they resorted to engaging in combat to take down a few guards, much to Alice's satisfaction.

Unfortunately, they were once caught by one of them. Being chased by the guard, Joker and Skull leaped into another corner in order to hide, while the pesky shadow whistled and continued to chase them.

"Security this tight, even before we send the calling card?" Skull focused his gaze on the guard running straight to the hallway while looking left and right, clearly still looking for them.

"Which proves there's an amazing Treasure inside!" Across Skull, Mona squealed excitedly as he hid behind the wall.

"What are you so excited for?" Panther, who was together with Mona, asked the other in a troubled manner because this had become too inconvenient.

"It's easy to just shoot them." Alice sighed, who was hiding with Joker. "Consider it as a training."

"We can't waste our energy!" Mona scolded, causing Alice to jolt in shock.

"Yes, master!" Alice replied firmly, causing the others to break into cold sweat.

'Damn… day by day, my cute kitty is starting to be more fierce.' The silver-haired thought to herself sadly. 'Or maybe, he was always like this?!'

"Let's go!" Joker took a glance at the situation in the hallway, confirming the guards are gone. Then, he cued, which also signified the end to Alice's petty thoughts of obsession towards cats.

The group immediately moved with the sign of their leader, running through the empty hallways. Soon enough, they reached a certain place where rows of bamboo-decorated doors were all over the place.

Panther stood by the entrance, then ran fearlessly triggering the automatic opening of the doors. It led to another, but quite different from the previous one as it is much larger and bright.

"Woah, what is this?" Panther asked herself then eyed the countless infrared lasers by the door.

"Let's inform the others." Alice walked beside her, locking her gaze on the extravagant door.

Part 2

It seemed as though they reached another end, as Skull scratched his head in frustration. An exasperated sigh escaped his mouth after failing to find a way to enter the door the girls told them before.

The rest were yet to tell what happened on their end, but Skull didn't expect much either. Looking up, he saw Joker about to jump from a pole.

"Yo, any luck?" Skull asked.

"Not yet." Joker jumped down, then walked to Skull. "I couldn't find any kind of mechanism."

"Me neither." Panther entered the scene, speaking before stopping by herself. "I figured out I could at least shut down the sensors."

"I also checked, but couldn't find a keyhole in the door." Mona spoke.

"There are no openings or any hidden passages that lead inside either." Alice walked in calmly.

"Seriously? Then what're we supposed to do?" Skull asked in annoyance. "Hey, Alice, can't you go in there or somethin'?"

"Can't go to a place I've never seen before." Alice explained, looking back at the gigantic door. "I also considered breaking the door, but that would pretty much drain our energy, and we don't know what's beyond that door."

"Worst-case, we might not even be able to actually destroy it." Alice continued.

"Doesn't seem like there's much we can do from here." Mona walked towards the ominous-looking door.

"What's that mean?" Skull asked again.

"Oh~ you mean it's related to his actual mindset?" Alice spoke confidently.

"On point, Alice!" Mona complimented, which only piled up to the witch's arrogance. Mona then walked to the middle, facing the thieves with sureness in his face. "We need to form a plan."

Part 3

"It's shady how he even went through the trouble of putting up a name plate."

A certain youthful woman held a camera in her hand, sneakily hiding behind a light post to get a closer look to the shack of the said Master Artist. She had a pair of brown eyes, black hair in a bob cut and notable red lips.

The woman wore a pair of orange sunglasses settled on her hair. A black shirt with a motto which read 'low life fight the power,' was worn by her, along with a white long-sleeved shirt under the black shirt and blue jeans. She also carried a pink fanny pack. Her shoes were oddly black-and-white, but seemed sturdy.

"Oh, you know something, onee-san." Kyoko suddenly appeared beside the woman, on the other side of the pole. "Trouble of putting up a name plate?"

"Of course." Confidently, the suspicious woman spoke. Her gaze went back to the place, "Who would think a Master Artist lives in such a poor thing. My guess is--"

The woman's words were interrupted when shockingly, someone appeared walking to the entrance in her field of vision.

"Oh? A high school girl?" She asked herself, quite shocked at the sudden appearance. Her gaze went upon the blonde attractive girl, Ann, walking towards the entrance.

"Huh?" The woman felt a finger poking her shoulder. Her eyes immediately dulled in fright. "Uwaaaaah!!!"

A piercing scream escaped the woman's red lips, shocking the teens as well. Unable to contain her shock, the lady jumped towards the other side where Kyoko was, and saw Ryuji and Ren, the culprits behind her shock.

"You scared me!" The woman scolded the blonde, astonishment all over her face.

"H-hey there, lady. What're you up to?" Ryuji asked, breaking into cold sweat.

"How'd you guys do that?" The odd lady asked, still in the state of shock. "I had no idea you were there."

"Really?" Ryuji questioned before laughing proudly. "Aw, man! It's like it rubbed off on us in real life."

"What~ she didn't notice me at all! I'm sorta pained," Kyoko whined playfully, still beside the lady.

"H-huh?! When did you--" Once again, the lady was speaking, but found herself at a loss of words.

"Maybe it's because we blend together well?" Kyoko leaned towards the lady wearing an unusual adorable look as if she considered the other her older sister.

"Maybe that's it!" The woman was rather cheerful, clasping her hands together.

"Now that's romantic." Contrary to his words, Ryuji sighed. Lifting his gaze, he saw both Kyoko and the odd lady smiling widely, looking at him. "You both give off the same vibe."

'Mochizuki seems much more shady, though.' Ryuji continued his next set of thoughts in his mind silently, lowering his sight.

Part 4

"Journalist?"

After things had settled down, they found themselves gazing at a piece of paper which seemed to be an actual information card. It was from the woman, who had a serious look on her face.

"There are all kinds of rumors floating about that Madarame. Like that he's abusing his pupils, and that a painting of his was stolen out of retaliation." The journalist narrated, causing the three to look at one another. "Know anything about that?"

"Not really." Ren replied, looking back to the lady.

"You aren't connected to him?" The woman questioned.

"Nah, we were just passin' through." Ryuji lied.

The journalist was pretty much confused, slightly widening her eyes. Then, a smirk crept across in her face as she gave the trio a suspicious stare, before actually teasing them.

"But there's something fishy about you guys." The journalist spoke.

"You're the one to talk." Ryuji sweatdropped along with Ren.

"That's a good point!" The journalist laughed, then widened her smile. "Well, if you ever get any leads, mind contacting me here? We're all fishy, so let's be friends."

"Yeah! Fishy people on the same boat." Kyoko playfully chirped.

"You intended that irony, didn't you?" Ren asked, a sweat rolling down on his face, as he earned a mischievous tease from Kyoko.

Then, Ren once again looked at the card that held the journalist's name and number.

'Ichiko Ohya…' The teen silently read.

"But you're really familiar. Hm…" Ohya suspiciously stared at Kyoko who innocently tilted her head.

"We're prolly co-workers in our past life!" As if she was shocked, Kyoko covered her mouth causing the others to sweatdrop.

"I doubt that." Ren sweatdropped, knowing that the girl was playing around.

"Oh! I remember!" Ohya chirped. "You two are from that sharpshooting incident! I'm the one who interviewed you, remember?"

"Ya got me~" Kyoko mischievously sang. "Whatta small world."

"Right~" Ohya agreed, the grin of her face growing wider. "You and your boyfriend look so good together! Young love is so trendy these days~"

Boyfriend…?

What, boyfriend? She thinks they're together? But why? It was the first time they met!

Now that Ren began to think of it, he recalled holding Kyoko close to him protectively, gave her a piggyback ride, caressed her cheek unconsciously, and the list goes on.

He was carried away by impulse and instinctively did things, as if they knew each other for a long time. Plus, his daring personality was a factor.

Completely off-guard, Kyoko felt her ears heating up badly. It was similar for Ren, as a faint tint of pink slowly came across his face right after the lady's statement. On a side note, Ryuji looked at them, confusion all over his face.

"Are you two hidin' somethin' for me?!" Ryuji's jaw drop, then called out sadly to the teen. "Renren!"

"N-no, that was the first time we met." Unusually, Ren was almost out of his calmness, subtly stuttering as he looked away. He pushed his glasses upward to hide the marks of his embarrassment.

"Y-yes, you're mistaken, lady!" Kyoko stuttered as well, defending herself.

"Fishy!" Ohya accused, causing the girl to blush even more. "Just kidding!"

Kyoko sighed in relief, then averted her gaze away from Ren. The teen boy, too, was quite embarrassed as light shone in his glasses.

Just what were they thinking then and they did all of those romantic things…?

Part 5

"I didn't think you'd come back."

Meanwhile, it was another day for the young artist to strive towards his goal of pure and true art. A small smile was present on his face as he carefully went through his things searching for the materials he needs to use, organizing the rest in the process.

On top of the drawers, the progress of his preparation was seen. Brushes of different sizes, each with a different purpose, were already together and cleaned for the next use. Beside it were various colors of paint in a container that seemed to have the shape of a bowl, the colors mixed by the artist himself until he found the desired hue.

Undoubtedly, with his subtle cheerful movements and the smile on his face, he was inspired. Gladness never left him once he received a certain unexpected message that inspired him to think of wild ideas.

It was a message from Ann Takamaki herself, accepting the modeling job he offered to her.

And not just a simple modeling job, but a nude.

"We're sorry about last time. We were out of line." Ann apologized, setting her bag aside carefully. Despite her tone and words, her brows were knitted, showing how alerted she was.

"Me too. I apologize for kicking you out." Yusuke apologized as well, but stayed focused as he prepared the canvas. Backing off a bit to check if it was perfect, he proceeded with his words. "I'm surprised you decided to do this."

"Eh?" Ann asked in confusion.

"Agreeing to be my model so I could properly paint a nude." Yusuke added as he continued to prepare the rest of the materials needed, talking while working.

"O-Oh!" Ann realized, a nervous sweat rolling down on her face. "I figured if it's for the sake of art, um, I'll try to muster the courage!"

"Sensei should be coming back soon. That might make you anxious, but..." Yusuke trailed, pre-occupied as he checked the brushes once again.

Unknown to him, a certain black cat was struggling to break free from a bag, eager to explore the place.

"No, it doesn't bother me." Ann reassured before whispering to herself, a shift on her emotions seen on her face. "That's what I'm here for."

"Hm?" Yusuke looked back at the girl, wondering what the whispered next set of words was.

"Oh, nothing." Ann replied nervously.

"I see."

Upon finishing the necessary preparations, Yusuke finally had the chance to properly eye the figure in front of him. Fixing his gaze on her, he noticed something… odd. With his thumbs and forefingers, he made a frame, Ann in the center of it as he carefully analyzed.

Something was really wrong...

"By the way... Have you gained some weight?"

Oddly, Ann wore blouses over another one, skirts over shorts over pants, uncountable layers of clothes in this warm weather was what she wore. Such overlapping clothes made it seem like she was a gigantic fat ass.

"H-Have I?" Ann stuttered. "I don't think so."

"My imagination." Yusuke looked at her once more, before closing his eyes. "Pardon my rudeness."

Part 6

The noon was nearing its end. By now, it is most likely that the plan was being carried on by the two 'frontliners,' considering the fact that Ann and Morgana—especially Ann—were the ones carrying the biggest risks in this gamble. Sometimes, sacrifices need to be made for the advancement of their investigation and to attain new leads.

They can't afford to fail now. Not now that they've known the gravity of the situation.

In front of the shack, the trio—Ren, Kyoko and Ryuji—stood, hoping that the plan would come to fruition. They were not being carefree nor lenient to fail the plan, a serious expression on their faces.

"All right. Should we go?" Ryuji asked, eyeing Ren who was already prepared to activate the app.

Earning a nod from Ren, Ryuji shifted his sight to the shack in front of them. "I'm countin' on you to stick to the plan, Ann."

"Good luck." Kyoko spoke with a small smile on her face as she leaned her back to the railing.

"Oi, Mochizuki! You better do your job!" Ryuji told the white-haired, a troubled expression on his face.

True, he was one of those who suggested and urged Ann to do such, but if not for their goal, he wouldn't have agreed. There was no way he'd let him, no, not on his watch. To be honest, the thought was entirely rubbish and inappropriate.

But he trusts Ann that she'd be able to pull it off.

Kyoko sighed, then swung her hand as if telling him to go on. "Yeah, yeah. I'll take care of your Ann so calm your ass."

Your… Ann?

Upon processing her statement, Ryuji blushed badly, knitting his brows in annoyance. On a side note, Ren pushed his glasses with a smirk on his face enjoying his reaction.

"The heck are you talkin' 'bout?!" Ryuji yelled, slightly leaning his face towards Kyoko, who playfully poked her tongue out and pulled her lower eyelid down.

"Just go ahead, Sakamoto! You wouldn't want Ann's efforts to go in vain, wouldn't you?" Kyoko asked seriously, but the moment Ryuji fell silent, she sneered.

"Dammit, fine!" Ryuji yelled once more, then faced Ren, signalling him to activate the nav.

"Be careful." Before activating, Ren glanced at Kyoko, muttering these words to her. A reassuring smile came across the girl's face, then showed a thumbs-up.

Once more, Ren reminisced their entire plan to double-check if everything was set.

Yesterday

After reaching an end to their investigation, the group once again gathered in their new hideout, discussing their next step. Apparently, there was a certain notably extravagant door, but after trying out different things, they failed to find any opening.

"A similar place? To that closed door?" Ann asked Morgana, who led the group in this discussion.

"Yeah. There's a door with the same design in the real-life shack." Morgana explained. "It had an unnaturally hefty lock on it."

"Maybe there's something really bad behind that door." Ann said.

"If we can open that door, the one in the Palace will open, too." Ren held his chin, piecing the ideas together.

"You get it!" Morgana exclaimed proudly.

"But that alone isn't enough. We need to change his cognition that the door is unopenable. We need to open it in front of him." Morgana explained.

"The timing will be difficult." Ren spoke.

"Yeah... I'll get the key somehow, but the tough part will be showing Madarame. " Morgana said. "We would aim to get in just before Madarame returns home. If only there was someone who could distract him for a while..."

"Oh yeah! Man, how do we even get into the house in the first place? We'd get reported for sure if we force ourselves in..." Ryuji spoke, wearing a troubled face.

Before Ann could notice it, all of their gazes were fixed on her..

"You gotta do the nude."

Do what?!

"What?!"

Ann shouted in utter embarrassment, her face enveloped with a deep red blush. So that's what they were thinking when they were looking at her!

"He said he couldn't paint you with clothes on." Ryuji playfully shrugged, "If you were like, 'Sure I'll do it,' that solves all our problems."

"Don't worry, Lady Ann! If anything happens, I'll protect you!" Morgana reassured.

"B-But..." Ann trailed, slowly shaking her head in disbelief.

"It's for justice... probably." Ren spoke, hesitation in his tone.

They don't have any choice, don't they?

"Jeez! Fine, I'll do it! A nude's no problem!" Hearing her words, the group perked their heads, seeing Ann bring a closed fist to her chest with a flicker of determination in his eyes. "I'll show you a model's soul!"

"That's what I'm talkin' about!" Ryuji grinned, entertained by Ann's firm resolve.

But then again, he's pretty much hiding his true feelings… the worry and uneasiness in his heart.

"Ann, Morgana, we're countin' on you." Ryuji continued, scratching the back of his head lightly. "Me and Ren're banned from goin' there, so all we can do is wait here..."

"No, you two have something different you'll need to do." Morgana corrected, much to Ryuji's confusion.

"Whaddya mean...?"

"You have to wait inside the Palace. Once that door opens, sneak in and look for some kind of control room." Morgana commanded. "We need to make sure the door won't close anymore after it's open."

"Ohhh, I get it. Mkay, you can leave that to us!" Ryuji said, pulling a reliable smile.

"Leave it to us." Ren nodded reassuringly.

"Did I miss something?"

The Phantoms shifted their gaze to where they heard a deep feminine voice speak, their eyes meeting a figure of a seemingly petite white-haired girl. It was Kyoko Mochizuki herself, arriving late at the scene. They found themselves eyeing her carefully, their first to see her in her formal attire.

The aforementioned girl tilted her head in confusion, her white locks following her movements. She placed her index finger on her face innocently, giving off a different aura.

Until, a playful smile formed on her lips which they often saw returned on her face.

"Wait a sec, I wasn't included in the assignment of tasks?!" Kyoko cupped her mouth in an almost exaggerated manner, clearly not serious at her said worry.

"We should give you a task where your skills and connections will be put to best use." Morgana suggested. "Let's see…"

Upon hearing Morgana's idea, a smile formed in Kyoko's plump lips.

"Madarame most likely has his own security company to call once he catches you." Kyoko spoke confidently. "It'd be easy for him to accuse you for attempted theft."

"W-what?!" Ann gasped, worried even more.

"So, I'll be the lookout! I can hold off the guards for a moment to give you extra time." Kyoko said, then looked at the blonde girl. "That'll give you a peace of mind, right Ann?"

"Wait, how'd you even know what we planned?" Ryuji asked in confusion.

"I had the thought of it before already~" Kyoko hummed playfully, pulling out a black case.

Opening the black soft case, it revealed a necklace and a collar. At first look, it seems ordinary, but the more you stare at it, you'd notice… something about it.

"Woah, what is this?!" Ryuji gasped, locking his gaze at the case along with the others.

"They're hidden cams." Kyoko explained, pulling out the necklace, then showed that the pendant was a lens. "I can watch what it records in my phone."

"It already has a built-in mic, not the best quality, but I'll be able to hear you." Kyoko added. Fishing her pockets, she pulled two more things. "And, here's an earpiece we can communicate with."

"You're prepared! Just how I like it." Morgana praised.

The smile never left Kyoko's lips as she eagerly tied the collar to Morgana, petting his head once more carefully before proceeding to Ann. She gave Ann a pat of assurance to her shoulder, as if telling her to relax since she'll be there to watch them, then placed the necklace to the blonde's palm along with the earpiece.

"Where did you get all of that?" Ryuji asked curiously, eyeing the objects.

"I stole them from my old lady." Kyoko grinned, facing Ryuji after lending the tools.

Morgana gasped in shock, his eyes turning white. "Your grandma?!"

"No!" Kyoko shook her head violently. "I meant your Hana-sensei."

Of course, her guardian would be just as unordinary as her. They had that hunch from the start, but now, she's showing them tools often used by assassins and spies? Clearly, they...

"We really don't know much 'bout you then." Ryuji spoke, slightly lowering down his head.

Kyoko widened her eyes a bit, taken aback by the boy's words. No, this isn't the time for them to know this… no, they should never know.

"Time will tell." Masking her thoughts with a smile, Kyoko softened her gaze.

Present

Ren truly wanted to know more about her.

Kyoko Mochizuki was such a great mystery to them. Nothing about her family, what she does, nor how she encountered that world surfaced; and they don't have the guts to ask her either. What they only knew was her unreasonable playful nature which pretty much the reason why they just felt a sense of comfort with her despite knowing nothing about her.

Because of Ren's words, they decided to trust her. Even when she pushed them away, their friend insisted on having her as part of the group. The fact that she seemed so lonely behind those smiles urged them.

They believe that as the time passes by, they'll get to know her. But until now, everything was still unknown to them.

Scratching off his thoughts, Ren lightly shook his head, gazing at the shack once more. This isn't the time to think about this. At least, yet.

"Let's go!" Ren cued, activating the nav with a determined face.

They're going to pull this off. No matter what.

Part 7

"W-well then, I'll start taking my clothes off."

Ann's nervous words escaped her quivering mouth, though she made sure that her marks of nervousness weren't seen nor noticed. The blonde cursed once more in her mind, displeased by her own words as she felt a sweat rolling down her face.

She stood across the young artist who was sitting patiently, unusually smiling in a weird manner, at least, to her.

"Yes, please." Yusuke smiled, his gaze focused on Ann.

Silence...

The two focused their orbs on one another, their previous expressions not dropping from their faces. Yusuke's smile remained the same, eagerly waiting for the girl to start. On the other hand, Ann also stayed in her place not moving an inch. The two exchanged stares, the silence not coming to an end.

How awkward.

That is, until Ann finally decided to speak up.

"It's embarrassing if you're watching me like that!" Ann snapped in embarrassment. "Look the other way."

"Oh, is that all? Very well." Yusuke turned his back, being a considerate man as he should be.

Moments passed and all the artist could hear was the low sounds of the cloth scratching one another, and Ann's careful movements. He tried to maintain his calmness, stopping himself from imagining the girl undressing.

A blouse, followed by a skirt. Then more of Ann's clothes were thrown at his direction, his eyes instinctively darting to the floor. Before he noticed it, a faint tint of pink was already on his face, blushing, feeling his face heat up from the tension.

'Calm down! I'm doing this for art!' Yusuke thought to himself, a failed attempt to stop himself from blushing.

Seeing this, Ann's lips formed a small smirk upon seeing his reaction, proud that her acting seemed successful. Then, she called, "No peeking!"

"Hey, your sensei's coming back soon, right?" Ann curtly asked.

"Yes, I believe so..." Yusuke replied.

"I see…" Ann slid the white polo off her shoulders carefully, revealing her last layer of clothing as she nervously dropped the cloth.

Part 8

"Ooh!" Kyoko cooed. "I can finally see something on Ann's end,"

Meanwhile, the white-haired impatiently leaned her back on the silver railing by the pole, focusing her cerulean orbs on her phone. It showed two separate windows, connected to the hidden cameras of the two frontliners allowing her to see their situations.

Mona's end didn't show much hope, still in the midst of lockpicking the hefty lock. What Kyoko saw in his window didn't seem any better as well, nothing but a messy shaky view.

On the other hand, the layers of clothes hindering her view on Ann's situation were already taken off by the blonde, meaning she was near to the last layer of clothes before she's forced to completely go naked.

Kyoko eagerly sucked her blueberry lollipop, leaving a light tint of blue on her lips and tongue. She watched both the feeds as if she was watching some suspense movie, her eyes slightly sparkling.

Scratch that, this is a serious situation.

"Master, you gotta hurry up." Kyoko spoke in a deep tone, lowering her lips to the mic clipped on her clothes. "Ann's on her last set of clothes."

"You wouldn't want her naked for that dude right?" Her snicker could be heard to the other side, pressuring the cat.

"It's hard to do it with cat paws!" Morgana complained, clearly struggling to do his task.

"That won't stop you, right?" Kyoko cheered. "Show me what you've got, Master!"

"Heh…" Morgana breathed. "I'll show you how much I deserve that title!"

Kyoko smiled to herself in excitement, entertained by the cat's response of determination. She gazed at the sky still as bright as ever, the soft light of the sun touching her skin gently. For a second, she closed her eyes to immerse herself entirely to it, a gracious smile forming on her lips.

A few moments after, she opened her eyes once again, checking the feeds to see if the situation improved.

Only to see a certain notification.

Goro: Hello, Kyoko.

Goro: Are you available tonight?

Kyoko bit her lip. What now? No day passed that the two didn't go out or called, and no, it's not romantic at all. Sometimes, it'd be idle chat or a quick game in chess, but most of the time, it was a stressful series of solving cases.

'This guy got his ass on me,' Kyoko thought to herself. 'How inconvenient.'

She brought her phone close to her, typing a reply.

Kyoko: Kinda.

Goro: That's vague.

Goro: I can almost hear your unenthusiastic reply.

Kyoko: Lololol.

Kyoko found herself chuckling a bit, much to her own shock. Her eyes grew wide, snapping herself out of her thoughts. She closed her eyes for a moment, unable to stop a few unpleasant moments rushing back to her head...

"You do know that I won't hesitate to kill, don't you?"

"If so, then why wouldn't you kill me?"

"Tch..." Kyoko grunted, reminiscing every single moment during that overwhelming unexpected event, along with the feelings and thoughts that occurred to her in that moment.

Once again, she shifted her gaze to the bright skies, a glimmer of sadness reflecting in her eyes. She tried her best to push away such thoughts, and focus on the task in hand, but to no avail. Taking a deep breath, she couldn't help but wonder…

'Why… no, what caused me to hesitate…'

'...to kill you back then?'

Then, those pair of brown orbs that often hinted loneliness flashed in her mind.

A/N: And here's CH 21 for y'all! X3 Yep, I'm actually writing chapters and not some notes and drafts, so here ya go!

Recently, I've been pretty motivated and determined to finish the book already. Your support will keep me going! <3

I guess it's quite inevitable, the chapters are just getting longer and longer, but consistency is something I must observe. Before the final arc of this book, I will allot some time to go back to the first chapter to start editing and improving the chapters, so please bear with me. ^^

Enough of the talk, did you enjoy it? X3 Please leave a vote and comment your thoughts!
