07│ Fallen Hope

Part 1

The absence of the moon and stars made the streets of Yongen-Jaya almost pitch dark. The wind passed by, as the trees and plants swing playfully. Plus the lack of passengers made the road of Yongen really calming. In the quiet streets, Ren shuffled his feet towards the cafe, shoulder hunched back and head down, drowning in his own thoughts.

Until muffled footsteps were heard. A shadowy figure appeared, heading to the opposite destination of him.

The cat in his school bag poked its head out and saw a glimpse of something, gaining his attention.

His eyes widened immediately as he foreshadowed a few dangerous situations in his mind, and the next second, he poked the shoulder of the raven-haired with his tiny claw.

"Hey, Ren.” He points with his paw. Look."

Ren snapped out from his mind. His eyes followed Morgana’s claw and saw something alarming. A bright red dot stood out from the dark and abandoned building blocks away from them. He could barely make out a shadowy figure and it was clear it was a sniper.

"Don't you think it's pointing out to that girl?"

Hearing his words, he was in an instant alarmed state and shifted his gaze to the person in front of him. Shifting his view alernately from the pointer to the position of the girl, he noticed that it was aiming for the girl.

Even if it was so far he felt his senses sharpened and heard the trigger being pulled.

The girl was purely distracted. Her face was covered with a book, probably trying to make out the words she was trying to read and doing it quite nicely.

Knowing that the girl was awfully insensitive, the boy dashed to the girl as if it was his instinct. He immediately grabbed her by the waist, causing her to gasp as a reaction and dropped her book in the process. He tightly embraced her, to make it easy for him to move her body away from the bullet. His body was tightly pressed against the girl's petite figure.

The girl felt his body was quite hard and even slightly masculine. On the other hand, Ren felt her chest pressed against his.

But that's not important now, he in a heartbeat, pushed her body against the wall, quite far away from the aim of the pointer, thus, saving her from being shot.

He glared at the source of the bullet, but soon shifted his gaze back to the girl to ensure her safety.

In between the silence, the moonlight started to peek from the clouds.

If it was not the situation, Ren definitely looked like he pinned the girl to the wall.

A ray of moonlight slowly shines their face. He stared at the girl and she stared back with eyes, still full of surprise but as he stared, it felt relaxing.

There was a flicker of blue in those wide eyes.

Ren unconsciously gently brushed few locks of the girl's snowy white hair. Slowly, he caressed her cheeks and looked at her so dearly with a sick worried face.

"Are you alright?" She felt the pang of anxiety in that question. She nodded slowly.

The girl stared at his eyes ever so gently, filled with admiration. She felt at comfort in his embrace.

Somewhere afar in a high building, the sniper watched the two with his scope. His face was unseen, and only his shadow was supporting his presence. He bent his knees down to wipe his fingerprints in his rifle before making his way down the building.

The silence within the two was broken by themselves, as the girl spoke.

"Call the police."

She was supposed to yell it to the boy, but it sounded a lot gentle compared on how she commands and bosses around with the police.

Ren let go of her and took his phone to dial the police. The girl shifted her gaze to the building, and lifted the right and left part of her skirt revealing a belt wrapped around her upper thighs. The belt holds a gun each, and she pulled it out. She loaded both guns, where Ren watched her in shock after reporting the scenario to the police.

The peaceful and silent street was bothered when a noisy and unpleasant sound of the motorcycle was heard. The sound was rapidly increasing as it went near to where the two was having their 'little moment'.

The light of the motorcycle shone to their faces, it's light straight up to their direction in an attempt to end their lives.

"Back off!" The girl ordered Ren, while the knowing it's for his safety, obeyed. She took out her gun and made a shooting stance. Both her hands gripped at the handle. Her right pointer finger was placed at the trigger ready to shoot.

The motorcycle was near and soon was in sight. The girl started aiming, while Ren was watching her in awe. It was clear that it came back to hit her. The distance between her and the motorcycle was rapidly decreasing. About to shoot the wheels, the sniper pulled out a gun, pointing at Ren, which caused the girl to stop her tracks and wrapped her arms around Ren's neck.

Due to her weight, they fell to the ground. Wherein the sniper who hijacked a motorcycle then pulled out the trigger but failed when the girl saved Ren's life by pushing him to the ground. The moment the sniper heard the very faint sirens of the police cars, he made a turn.

The duo immediately stood, and the girl made sure to keep her 'emergency guns'. A lonely motorcycle parked on the sidewalk captured the girl's eyes. She ran towards it, then sat and held the maneuver of the motorcycle. This time, Ren was really shocked, knowing that she's planning to hijack that motorcycle to chase after the sniper.

"Hey, wait!" The teen boy called out to the girl as he ran towards her.

"What?" Her gentle voice was turned into ice.

"What are you planning on doing?"

"I'm going to chase after him, you better go home." She claimed, back to her aloof personality. "Or, you can join me."

Nevertheless, only silence was the response of the boy as he stiffly stood from his position. Taking it as a no, the girl took a lockpick from her pocket to start the engine of the motorcycle. She started the engine and prepped herself to comfort herself as she will be riding the motorcycle in pursuing a criminal.

She then slowly started it as if a warm-up, which caused Ren slight panic and ran after her. He managed to catch up for she was still near then unintentionally jumped to the motorcycle as well, supposedly in the purpose of stopping her.

"Oh, so you wanna come after all?"

Her tone was amused as if she was playing a video game. In contrary to that, the ravenette appeared to be displeased.

But soon, it left him no choice but to go with her, as the girl seems to not have any intentions of letting him down. What supported his thoughts was when she even sped up the speed of the motorcycle.

However, the sirens of the police cars intensified. Soon, police cars made a turn in front of them but still has distance as they continued to ride the motorcycle. The sound of the motorcycles was overlapping, which means he was still actually near.

The speed of the motorcycle was still maintained as they chase after the sniper.

"Dude, call the police again."

Obediently, Ren pulled out his phone, then dialed the police once again. The moment they answered the call, the teen leaned his phone to the girl's ear.

"The motorcycle rider. Confirm the suspect."

Soon, they caught up with the police cars, and the motorcycle was in sight. However, it was not the happy ending they hoped for. Not even close.

With a simple turn of the body of the rider, he had a gun, and it was definitely not a simple gun.

The moment he pulled the trigger, the bullet appeared to be some sort of bomb, which caused a great explosion to the police cars. Due to her reflex, she pulled the breaks of the maneuver as the motorcycle stopped harshly.

"M-meow!"

The duo was stunned and a scream of a cat was heard, but the girl acted immediately as they stood from the motorcycle. She pulled out her phone.

"Back up, back up bitches, back up!"

"What back up? What bitches?  Where are you—"

Her trembling hands from anger and nervousness by accident dropped the phone, and she was about to lose her sanity. Few drops of the blood of the officers made its way to her legs, which caused her to tremble in fear.

The girl looked around aggressively and noticed that they had reached into a bridge. Good thing, she thought. At least civilians are far from danger, aside from the boy behind her.

Protectively, she stood in front of the boy, ready to take any bullet aimed at him.

The distance between them and the sniper was covered by nothing but fire, prohibiting them from closing the distance along with burned remains of the exploded car, a haze of blood of the police officers.

The enemy had already drawn his weapon, but she was still slowly creeping her right hand to her leg belt where she kept her gun.

"Checkmate, Mochizuki."

So that's it for chapter 7!

What do you think?

I'll update chapter 8 on Friday at an unknown time. Stay tuned!

Btw, the bonus arc I said was moved to after Madarame arc.

Anyways, did you enjoy the #KyoRen moment? 😅

Btw, the slight! Romance tag in this story doesn't mean that there's no chance of them being together. It's just that it's not the story focus. So there might be KyoRen moments every other chapter...

The ship will sail soon. I guess?

Thanks for reading, and please comment your thoughts about the KyoRen moments. 😁
