Panchali tests Pandavas - o n e
Maharaj Yudhishthir,
Yuvraj Bheem,
Senapati Arjun,
Mahamantri Nakul,
And Arthashatragna Sahdev,
Were the pillars of the newly formed city of Indraprasth.
[King Yudhishthir,
Crown Prince Bheem,
Commander-in-chief Arjun,
General Secretary Nakul,
And Economic Affairs Minister Sahdev]
Daughter of Drupad, Draupadi,
Born from Yagna, Yagnaseni,
Arose fromFire, Agnijaa,
The one with dark complexion, Krishnaa,
The one from the land of Panchal, Panchali,
The glorious wife of the five great descendents of King Bharata, Mahabharati,
And the life of Pandavas, Panchami.
Was the base to the pillars of Indraprasth!
Draupadi graciously walked towards her husband's room, she halted for a minute too look at the sacred thread. She didn't know, what she was going to do would be right or not, but she felt it as the necessity for the moment.
She thought about the words her mother-in-law had spoken, just before they left Hastinapur, "Draupadi, I know this marriage will be difficult for you, but I know my sons, they will never let you down." Kunti reassured Draupadi, but the lines of worry were still present on her forehead. Kunti then added, "However, if you want to be sure, test them,"
"Test them?" Panchali repeated her words to make sure she did hear the right thing. Kunti smiled at her daughter, "Why not, they are your husbands, you have right on them, of everything. Test them, and you will get the answer about the successful marriage,"
"But what test Mother?" Draupadi inquired politely. It sounded a bit absurd to take her husbands test, but if her Mother was insisting, there must be something she haven't seen yet.
A small smile rested on Kunti's face, her face held emotions as pure as water of Ganga, and eyes twinkled with a mischievous tint. She took a few steps towards her wardrobe. Taking out a small decorated box, she handed it over to Draupadi. "This might help you,"
Curiously Panchali opened the box and saw thread of Moli, her lips curved as she couldn't understand the meaning of it. Kunti kept her hand on Draupadi's forehead blessing her with everything she can, "This thread was tied on Maharaj Pandu's hand during our marriage. My father gave him an advice while tying this, and today I shall pass it to you, that might help,"
Kunti repeated her father's words to Draupadi, "One man can be the best husband, or best son, or best father, best brother, or whatever. But only that man is best among all men, who handles every relation with respect, he who never let any kinship turn in a derelict relationship."
"And then my father added: 'I am not searching for a best husband, but looking for a best man to be my daughter's husband.' Keep my words in mind my dear," Kunti counselled Draupadi.
Draupadi looked at the Moli thread and an idea crossed her mind, she was a bit unsure about the road she had chosen for the test, but her faith and confidence on the idea assured her to do so.
She entered the room and saw Yudhishthir on a chair, engrossed in some work, "My Lord," She said gaining his attention.
"Panchali," Yudhishthir smiled at his wife and stood up. "You look a bit worried my beloved," He said.
"Yes My Lord, I have come here, not as the Queen of Indraprasth or as your wife, but as common woman. I come here to seek justice, Dharmaraja," She spoke hastily, her eyelids dropped and a tint of sadness laying underneath.
"How is it possible that injustice was the righteousness of Dharmaraja himself? How is it possible that the Maharani of Indraprasth has been wronged." He inquired not a second later, doubting his ears for hearing something incorrect.
"My King, for my husband has wronged me. He is strong, and powerful, the wielder of a mighty mace." Panchali started speaking of second son of Pandu, Bheem.
"Bheem had a body of iron, tough and impenetrable, but a heart of gold, pure and soft. It is a thought that needs discussion, that Vrikodhar has wronged you my beloved," He spoke softly, he took neither Draupadi nor Bheem's side, keeping himself neutral.
"His arms hold strength to shake the world, and his arms have uprooted a tree in my presence. As if exhibiting his strength to put me in a state of alarm or panic," She spoke in a low voice, as if still anxious about it.
Yudhishthir looked at his wife, unable to process her words. Neither Bheem would do something like this nor Panchali will lie. Then how was this possible?
"My King, allow me to take your leave as you are not being able to provide me with justice," She harshly spoke and started to leave. But Yudhishthir stopped her in between, "Panchali wait. I promise to give you answer and justice. Can you wait for some time, for me to think?" He asked.
Draupadi didn't speak a word, but nodded and left. As she came out of the room, she made a knot in the thread and walked towards Bheem's room.
"My Lord, you made me a promise, to protect me from all the harm that shall appear before me. But my husband, the great archer , has raised his weapons, in my company. Dhananjaya has pluck up courage, as he shoot an arrow. O mighty Vrikodhar, I wish for you to avenge it," She said.
"My dearest, the wielder of Gandiva bow is known to destroy his enemies single-handedly, but he does not possess the strength to string his bow against you," Bheem said,
"If your arms no longer have strength, or if you fear wrath of divine weapons, then allow me to leave," She said being displeased at the fact.
"No my dearest, for you, I shall not hesitate to fight Yama himself. Grant me some time, and I shall do whatever it is must to fulfill your wish,"
Draupadi did not reply but shook her face in affirmation and walked out the room. She added another knot to the thread and walked towards Arjun's chamber.
"My Lord, you had taken a vow to protect my dignity and honour. My husband, who is admired and famous for his beauty, has insulted me for my appetite. The expert of Ayurveda, has used mean words," Draupadi said about Nakul.
"My love, the elder son of Mother Madri can cut through, with his sword, his foes, but he is incapable to use his mouth to hurt anyone," Arjun replied, he kept his hand on her shoulders.
"If the commander-in-chief is incompetent to keep his word, then he shall, in first place, never give his word to anyone," She said in a high tone and took steps towards the door.
"O Panchami, give me some time, after that, I shall act in way that would please you," Arjun promised.
Draupadi nodded and left the room in speed. As she walked towards Nakul's chamber, she tied another knot.
"My Lord, you assured me, that none shall ever mock me, but my husband, the wisest of all, has mocked me. The Master of Astrology looked up in my eye, and spoke words of mockery." She said.
"Panchali, for the youngest son Maharaj Pandu has proven to disintegrate his foes in battle, but he is not endowed with such tremendous strength, to have your heart fall in pieces." Nakul spoke.
"Then allow me to leave as you do not have the strength to act on it nor the kindness to speak words of comfort to me," She replied.
"My love, pardon me some time and I shall bring you something to make you content," Draupadi nodded at his words and silently left the room.
She tied the fourth knot and stood outside Sahdev's room, she remembered Kunti's words, "Take extra of my Sahdev, he is the youngest of them all," She had said.
She complained about the younger brother to the elder brother, but she couldn't possibly speak anything against about any of the elder brother to the younger ones.
She decided to test him with some other question.
"My Lord, there is something, which makes me think over it for endless hours but none of the answers I can think about satisfies the question," She spoke.
"Ask the question my love," Sahdev smiled at his wife's curiosity.
"Why did Lakshman, the obedient brother get angry at his elder brother Rama? If he did then why is he considered to be the most perfect brother?" Draupadi poured out her questions like water.
Sahdev looked at with his lips curving in a smile, "That, my love, is quite simple,"
......................................
I could have added Sahdev's answer, but I felt it would be more appropriate if the answers of all five brothers are in one chapter.
Now, all the words spoken by Draupadi are true. She did not lie.
All the questions have one thing in common-
They gave Pandavas two choices,
Either a brother or husband.
If they choose brother then Panchali will be upset for them choosing their brothers over her,
And if they choose her, then also she will upset as she made them choose her over her brothers, and to the cause of a possible rift between them.
So the five have to bring a solution of a side in between the two!!!!!!!!
The purpose is just to see unity of Pandavas as brothers and husbands.
Let's see if they can answer or not.
Also, any idea what the possible answer could look like?
