Chapter 81

Panchaali paced in her room, every cell in her body was screaming in pain as exhaustion weighed heavily on her, but the worry for her husbands just increased with every moment. Her eyes burned with tears as her heart squeezed with pain.

She turned around sharply as she watched a man enter her room with two guards, her hackles rose as her hands fisted, "How dare you enter the room of Kurukul Vadhu without her permission!" She snapped furious at the entry of a stranger in her room. "Drupad Kumari I am the sarthi of Samrat Duryodhan. He has ordered you to be in present in the sabha." The man said, fury bubbled in her heart,"My aryas have lost the dyut not their lives, and I answer to no one except them, I follow no ones order except theirs, go and tell Rajkumar Duryodhan that I don't take orders from anyone except my aryas!"

Her command rang throughout the room, "Daas have no right to order. After losing himself, Samrat Yudhisthir lost you're freedom to Maharaj Duryodhan." The man whispered, his head bowed. A sharp ringing sounded through her ears "Samrat Yudhisthir lost you're freedom to Maharaj Duryodhan." The words rang through her mind, her legs gave out from under her as she nearly fell on the couch behind, she sat there trying to process the words, her arya staked her? No way was that possible, he would never do that to her, he would never! NO! Shakuni, the came to her mind like a whisper, that adharmi must have done something.

Her heart felt cracked as her soul wept, her soul felt heavy in her chest. She couldn't breath, when things don't seem right hold on to god, have patience. Yudhisthir's words came like a whisper to her ear, don't let your enemies ever know how scared you are, for they shall exploit your weakness. Be brave baby girl. She remembered Arjun's words, she bit back all her fears and tears as she looked up at the man in front.

"If Aryaputr Yudhisthir had lost himself, he had no right to even put me on stake!" Her voice came stronger than she felt, her heart was quivering from fear, what would she do now? Have faith in us as long as we're alive no one touch a hair on you're head. Bheem's promise rang through her mind, she breathed in, they were there, they won't let anything happen to her. During the wedding they had vowed to protect her, they promised to protect her. So far they have protected her even from a slightest prick, they surely wouldn't let anything happen to her. She assured herself as she looked at the man in front of him, "GO!" She shouted, her voice ringing with anger.

The pandavas sighed hearing their wife's reply, so proud of you little one. Arjun mentally complimented her for wisdom and quick thinking. Bheem and the twins sighed in relief as they heard Dronacharya and Vidur agree to her points, Yudhisthir wanted to kiss her, she had paid attention when he taught her.

"The answer to this question is not so easy, why don't we ask Dharmraj Yudhisthir whether is Dharm or not?" Shakuni asked as he turned to Yudhisthir, "So daas Yudhisthir tell us whether this is dharm or not? If you kept quite it would be considered a lie." Gandhar raj stated as he looked at Yudhisthir and smirked, he was slowly paving the way of Pandavas destruction by their own hands. Yudhisthir's hands fisted, he knew if he opened his mouth he will be throwing her right at the berserkers but his dharm was shackling him down today.

"Jyest bhraata maun rahiye, itna chotasa adharm kar lijiye, aj par kripya maun rahiye!" Arjun begged, pain reverberated through his each word as he joined his hands in front of him, his eyes pleading to his jyest, his heart was cracking, just thinking about Panchaali here, in this sabha, was killing him, he didn't know what he will do if someone dared to get her here, storm of emotions and thoughts ran through his mind as he slowly felt like he was losing it.

Bheem, Nakul and Sahadev looked at their jyest begging him to hold his silence, to keep her out of this place, out of the reach of the monsters, out of the clutches of this heartless men, she will be shredded in to pieces if she came here. This rabid wolves will tear her down, her innocent face flashed in their minds and a jolt of pain ran through their heart.

Yudhisthir felt dead, he had gone numb, tears were falling down from his face at a constant pace. "If losing my brothers was dharm than so is this." He uttered the words, each syllable felt like a nail in his coffin, a step closer to death. The four younger pandavas felt as though their death sentence was given to them, helplessness bound their soul, "yeh apne kya kia jyest." Nakul's broken voice just further increased the weight of Yudhisthir's guilt, aggravating the agony in his heart even more.

The Kauravas laughed, Duryodhan looked at his younger brother, "Dushasan! Go and get that dasi here, if that egoistic woman dared to refuse my orders than drag here by her hair!!!" Duryodhan ordered, fury blazed in the chest of the pandavas as Vrikodar slammed his fist on the ground. The entire sabha shook as the pandavas trembled in anger, their eyes blazing as they glared at Dushasan and Duryodhan.

"DUSHASAN!" Bheem's voice boomed, "If you even dared touch Panchaali I will kill you right this instant!" He growled, his body was trembling as he tried to restrain his anger, "Maun raho daas! Maun raho!Tum kuch nahi kar sakte, tum sab dharm se bandhe ho. Aur uss dasi Draupadi ko maine ussi dharm ke anusar jeeta hai!" Duryodhan spat making Arjun's patience snap, he had enough, he will cut every damn hand  that dared to touch her. "BHOOL JAUNGA MAIN WOH DHARM! BHOOL JAUNGA! MATH BHOOLOH DURYODHAN SHIVLING  MEIN BHAGWAN BASTE HAI PAR USS PEH BHI JAB PATHAR MAARA JAYE TOH AGNI KI CHINGAARIYA  NIKALTI HAI! BHASM KAR DUNGA TUMHE!" He shouted, never in his life had he ever been so angry, never. But today all he wanted was blood.

"Stop your nonsense daas Arjun! If you want to do adharm than do it! We too want to see how you insult your jyest today, tell Yudhisthir that the limits that he has set for you all are unacceptable by you, tell him that you have nothing to do with his failure, than pick up your weapons and leave! We will let you go!!!" Gandhar raj shouted in equal fervour, he was vexed, he wanted the pandavas to break apart, to lose their unity and be lost in true sense forever.

The four younger pandavas looked back at their jyest, he looked shattered but was silently telling them to leave, to get themselves and Panchaali away from here, but how could they? They were brothers, forever together, through pain and happiness, they never went against his words, they could never do that, the man was not just their brother but their aaradhya, their faith, they could never leave him. They were five fingers of the same hand, they couldn't be separated, for others they were five but to them they were one. One soul. One being. One existence.

Arjun stumbled back, Bheem looked at his anuj, his heart bled, Arjun was his pride, seeing him break was cracking in his heart, he shook his head in desperation as he too moved back, Nakul and Sahadev moved their feet back,it was one of the most difficult thing that the four had ever done in their complete life.

The Kauravas laughed, Dushasan smirked as he marched out of the sabha. Kneeling there waiting as the sabha submerged in silence was the most difficult thing they had ever done, different scenarios ran through them as their hands fisted, concern was bubbling in their chest as memories after memories unfurled in their minds, chocking their hearts that were burning in agony.

Panchaali's hand travelled to her stomach, she regretted not telling her husbands about the baby. She regretted it, she should have told her that she was pregnant, she should have told that she was sick because of her pregnancy and not because she had periods. Arya Sahadev would be furious knowing this, they all would be. But this was her year with arya Sahadev, he would be so angry, what should she do now?

The door to her room was kicked open as she swirled around, her eyes blazing as she looked at the man who stood there. He marched in making her heart hammer in her chest crazily as he glared at her, his eyes roamed on her body with lust. "What's the meaning of entering in the room of Kuruvansh's Kulvadhu's room Rajkumar?!" Her words were strong and laced with anger, although her heart was thrumming with fear.

"Dasi Draupadi you had been ordered by Samrat Duryodhan to be present in the raj sabha!" He shouted, fury blazed in her chest, "maryaada bhang math kijiye rajkumar. Sukhe ghass se bana samagrh khet bhi ek chote se angaare ko baandh nhi sakta, tum sau ke sau bhai bhi ussi prakar jal jaoge." She warned, her voice barely above whisper but the anger in it was burning brightly.

"Shut up dasi! Just like your husbands who have been silenced by my brother long ago!" He shouted as he marched towards her, "Come here!"  He spat as he moved towards her, his hand reached out to grab her, she stepped simultaneously as her hands wrapped around Dushasan's sword and pulled.

"Dusht! You dared insult me you will have to pay for this. Don't cross your limits Rajkumar I am warning you!" She shouted as fear filled her senses,  he disregarded her warnings as he moved towards her, she shoved him making him fall on the ground. "If you have guts than try taking the Kulvadhu of Kuruvansh in the presence of Maharani Gandhari!" She said as she swirled around and walked to Gandhari's chambers.

His footsteps behind her were just increasing her terror as she hastened her pace, just as she was about to open the door, she felt the odhni from that was on her head being tugged. She turned around glaring at the man with her tear soaked eyes.

"Let me go dusht!" She shouted as gave a sharp tug on the odhni making her heart thump, dread clawed at her chest, arya where are you all? She mentally begged as she watched Dushasan in horror. He fisted her hair making her whimper in pain as her scalp burned with sharp pain, his hold unlike her aryas was harsh. He swung her body with all his might making her scream as her body clashed with the huge vases and other decorative. Her body spasmed with agony as dark spots danced in her vision, her hair tugged as he gripped her by the back of her neck, and dragged her by her hair.

She screamed and shouted as he pushed and dragged her. Her body was ready to faint as it just throbbed, but she refused to give in, she fought him at every moment, every step but he shredded all her defenses, humiliation filled her senses as he dragged her like an animal through the corridors of her in laws palace.

The loud agonized scream of pain reverberated throughout the raj sabha, the pandavas hearts clenched as shock marred their faces as they watched Dushasan shove their wife on the ground, fury burned in their chest as their fists clenched they watched as she screamed and shouted in pain, telling him to let her go.

Each push, his each painful grip on her felt like Dushasan was grabbing their heart and hurting it not her. They watched, fury bubbling their chest as they watched her being harshly dragged by Dushasan.

Panchaali looked up from the floor where she was pushed, her eyes travelling to her aryas, who looked at her in shock and pain.

Her heart ached as her eyes met with Arjun, she begged him with his eyes to stop this, asked him why this was happening to her, what had she done to deserve this? He lowered his gaze, the one that screamed in pain and helpless, tears dropped down the cheeks out her arya's eyes.

Her eyes travelled to Bheem, pleading him to stop this, he shook his head as he broke down crying. Her gaze clashed with Yudhisthir, guilt was heavy in his eyes as he lowered his head, Nakul and Sahadev had no guts to even lift their heads, their heads were already lowered, they knew they'll break if they even looked at her, their hearts were already being tormented by just hearing her screams, they couldn't bare to see her in pain.

Her scream of pain as Dushasan grabbed her hair had their heads jerking up, she was still looking at them as Dushasan tightened his grip on her hair making her scream, they clenched their hands as they looked at her, their irk just increased with every second. Her gaze had them feeling helpless, they hated themselves, loathed their very existence. They shut their eyes as they wept.

They jolted as each one took a step ahead as Dushasan pushed her on the stage in center. Pain wrecked through her body as she rammed hard on the ground.

The Kauravas laughed as she cried, her sniffles and whimpers ringing through the sabha, each was like a whip on the souls of the pandavas.

Arjun was swimming in sea of pain, the girl that he had promised to project was dragged to the sabha like an animal, he detested his very existence, her every cry was piercing trough his already broken heart making him want to feel like he was a vermin of the earth.

Bheem cried, anger was scratching at his chest, his wrath was demanding to be released like the pashan of Yamraj on each of the Kaurav brothers.

Yudhisthir's soul agonized as they looked at their wife, her moans of pain, her tears, the girl who had promised the world was at the mercy of this monsters all because of him.
Nakul and Sahadev felt dead, it was like they had stopped breathing, all they could do was stare at her lifelessly.

"When the pride vanishes the face is the first thing that loses it's glow and takes up the black colour of humiliation. Dushasan show us the face of this egotistical woman!" Duryodhan taunted, his voice lit the rage in the chest of Yagseni, her head lifted and the look on her face was enough to make the people shuffle on their feet.

She pushed her body to stand on her wobbly legs, spasms of agony reverberated through her body but she ignored it all. Dushasan moved towards her, her hand shot out throwing the mehrus at him. He smirked as she turned to the king.

"Maharaj! What sort of behavior is this happening in Hastinapur's raj sabha!" She shouted as she faced Dhritarashtr, her eyes blazing with questions as she sniffed and wept.  "I am the Kuruvansh's Kulvadhu, I am the honour of Kururashtr, I had stepped in Hastinapur as its Laxmi than why am I being dragged here like a wild rabid animal! WHY?!" Her question rang throughout the Sabha, as she demanded the answers. She was burning with rage, as she looked at everyone.

"Pitamah apki kirti toh samagrh Aryavart mein hai, aap toh swayam mata Ganga ke putr hai, apne samucksh aap aisa vyavhaar dekh aap maun kis prakar reh sakte hai?!" She shouted, her soul was tormented, men that she respected and admired, men she believed who would never let any injustice happen were quite today. Bhism broke down crying as he gave out a loud cry.

"Guru Dron you're here at the place of my father, why is this  happening to me?!" She cried, tears traveling down her cheeks as she looked at the man who was like a father to her, his eyes were glazed with tears as he too held his silence.

"Maharaj your sons are crossing their limits, why aren't you doing anything?!" She shouted as she looked up at Dhritarashtr, her husbands were bound but none of this elders were, she was failing to understand why was everyone letting this happen?

"A dasi has to listen to her... owner." Stammered Dhritarashtr, her heart froze as her soul stilled, terror gripped her throat as dread seeped in. "Dasi?" She asked, her voice laced with fear and shock, "I AM A DASI?!How did I become a dasi?! My question was never answered by Aryaputr Yudhisthir! How can he put me on stake when he had lost himself?! He had no right on me! I am asking this entire sabha what kind of Dharm is this?!" She shouted as she  looked around for answers.

"Why are you asking this question to us Yudhisthirpriya ask this to your Aryaputr Dharmraj Yudhisthir!" Duryodhan shouted, he was taunting her, every moment of this sabha was a balm on his burning soul. He was loving it, seeing her scream and shout, wail in pain as Pandavas were tortured by all of this. "Das Yudhisthir answer her!" He shouted to further the level of torture for him.

"Answer me arya?! Did you stake me on the basis of the same right that you executed to stake your brothers?!" She questioned, her soul begging him to say no, tears were pouring down her cheeks. Arjun and Bheem cried louder as Nakul and Sahadev silently wept. Yudhisthir's heart clenched as he looked right through her, he was not meeting her gaze, how could he, his soul was heavy with guilt. Words fell from his mouth, she deserved answers and he had no right to hold them back, "yes Panchaali." The words fell from his mouth as his face remained expressionless. "Family members have a right on each other."  His voice sounded dead just like it felt. "Family member?" She questioned, her voice dripping with pain as tears chocked her, pain ceased her heart. "Wife is just not a family member!" She shouted, "A wife is ardhangini, on  a person's death his family sure grieves but it is only the wife who becomes a widow!!! Is the relationship between the pearls kept in a vessel is same as the two pearls bound together as a kundal? Than how did you execute the same right on me like your brothers?!  Don't be quite! Answer me!!!!" She shouted, her voice hoarse from crying as her throat hurt. She broke down crying her eyes still looking at Yudhisthir, who was crying too.

"Mahamantri Vidur in your kingdom justice rules, isn't that what you preach?!"  She taunted as she glared at the crying man in front of her, "Answer me, Does a man's brothers have right on his property?!" She snapped as she chocked on her tears, "Yes if the man permits than they do." He chocked out the answer in between in his tears, "A woman however gets this right the moment she is married, the property that Aryaputr Yudhisthir staked was just as mine as it was his, isn't that right?! Than why didn't he consult me before staking everything?!" She questioned, her voice breaking with pain, "Dasi Draupadi! Did you put any limits on your husband before they came here for dyut? You didn't. So THAT means you in a way permitted them. Now stop this stupid nonsense already" Gandhar raj sowed the first seed of the idea that she did wrong by trusting them, his first step towards his aim of separating Panchaali from her Pandavas.

Her heart sunk as she continued to look at her silently crying husbands, "That means it was my fault that I trusted them?" She questioned, tears pouring down her soul as the silence of everyone cut her soul into pieces, "It was my crime that I believed in them. Answer me Aryaputro! Don't be silent!ANSWER ME!!!!" She shouted on top of her voice as she glared at them.  "Today you will need to answer my various questions, you can't be quite today. Answer me! Arya putr Arjun you answer me!! Answer me that, did Arya Yudhisthir take your permission before he staked me? Did he take any of your permission?? Answer me! Did you all together have made me a dasi??? You all have vowed to protect me in the presence of the holy fire when I had devoted my life to you all! Did you all forget???" She broke down crying as she turned away, she swirled around as she faced them back, "For the happiness of your family I had made my entire life a tapasya, I married you all five, so that the other four won't have to take sanyas!!! And in return why am I getting such a horrifying present!! Whyy?????? Answer me!" Her voice faded as she lost herself to tears, her soul, her heart her very existence regretted being ever born, what was the point, her father hated her and now her husbands here stood all quite punishing her for a crime she never did.

"Forgive us Panchaali. We never go against jyest Bhraata's words and he had to follow Duryodhan's orders." Arjun begged as he joined his hands in front of her, tears fell down his cheeks, her questions were tearing everything in him, seeing her here like this was tearing him down, he was literally begging for death but today even Yumdev refused to show him any mercy.

"That means you followed dharm, arya Nakul, Sahadev and Arya Bheem too followed their dharms. Aryaputr Yudhisthir too did no adharm, everyone in this sabha did all their work by Dharm." Her voice was filled with resignation, tears trailing her cheeks as she sobbed, a fire sparked as her anger cackled. "SO DOES DHARM GIVES THE RIGHT TO INSULT A WOMAN! DOES THAT MEAN THAT DHARMA GIVES YOU MEN THE RIGHT TO ABUSE WOMEN!!!" She shouted fury cackling in her chest, her humiliation fueling it.

Her eyes fell on her husbands, than to guru Dron, a father figure, Ashwathama, a brother,Pitamah Bhism, her great father in law, Vidur, her uncle in law. And the Kaurav brothers, her brother in laws. Men whom she once considered family, men who were supposed to protect her, men who were causing this pain and men who watched her suffer silently.

Her soul cracked, exhaustion weighed heavy on her soul, she no longer had the guts to fight. Yes she had defeated tons of men at Viratgadh but this here were her family, she never lost but today she was defeated by her own family. She lost everything, her existence was barely bound by a thin thread with pandavas it too threatened to snap.

"Everyone thought about their dharma, you all did. But not one, not even one of you think about Panchaali's honor, her rights, her emotions." Her voice faded as tears and grief battled her, a hundred men from outside and she defeated them all. Just a handful of men from her family and she was shredded. A person could win a hundred battles if his family is by their side but today all had abandoned her. She stood alone, battling with her own people, her own family, for what? To protect her own honour!

Her words cut through the hearts of her husbands, their agony just skyrocketed, they felt like they were literally in hell, nothing could be worse than this, nothing. They were losing her, they could see it, they were losing the one person that they loved more than life yet all they could do was watch her suffer, their agony couldn't be described by words.

"Nhi socha kisine kyun ki tumhare pati toh purush hai hi nhi, kyun aise dharm ko tum aadhaar bana ke baithi ho joh ek yodha ko napoonsak bana de! Aao Draupadi sambandh banao mere sath, Aao Draupadi meri is  Jungah baitho!" Duryodhan proposed lewdly as he began laughing with his brothers.

The pandavas growled their wrath bubbling in them, "Duryodhan yeh pran hai mera ki main issi jungah ko toh tumhare praan lunga!!!!!"  Anger burned through the pulse of Bheem as he growled at the man in front of him, "Aur main apne bhojan mein tab tak mitti milake khaunga jab tak main tum sab ko mitti mein naa mila du! Taaki mujhe yeh smaran rahe ki main manushya nhi bus ek bhoomi ka keeda hu! KEEDA HU BHOOMI KA!" The pain inside was taking the form of words as Arjun shouted the words, he despised himself today, hated his helplessness. Pain ringing through his words.

"Stop your nonsense!" Duryodhan commanded, "come dasi Draupadi! Follow your master's order!" He ordered as he looked at her, Panchaali's hands fisted, "Murkh Duryodhan! Agni ko kabhie bandha  nhi ja sakta, main Yagn se janmi Yagseni hu, tum mujhe dasi nhi bana sakte kyun ki mujhe woh suvikaarya nhi!" She shouted as she glared at him, she turned around and flipped the dice board as she walked out no longer caring of anything else.
