Chapter 47
After getting ready Panchaali rushed out of her room, "Maharani should we serve the food in silver or gold cutlery?" A dasi asked, "remove the gold cutlery set." She said as she moved to the kitchen, she picked a glass of milk and moved to Kunti's room, "Mata." Her words were soft as she entered in making Kunti look up from the bed, where she was playing with her grandson.
"Mata your milk." She said as she gave the glass of milk to Kunti who smiled at her, "Bless you putri, you handle everything so well." She complimented making her smile, "after all I am your daughter." She said as Kunti took the glass of water making her smile.
"Maa..." Prativindh gurgled the words as he began to blow raspberries making Panchaali smile, she moved towards him and picked him up, as she sat on the bed and laid him on his lap as breastfed him. "My cute baby. " she mumbled lovingly making Kunti smile who sipped on her milk.
"I was thinking about going and meeting the praja today and doing some daan and pooja." Kunti said, "That's a great idea mata. I'll order the daasis to prepare some extra food so you can feed the needy." Panchaali suggested, adding another work to her long list of works. "That's a great idea. You finish feeding him while I'll go and get the things ready." Kunti said as she left the room.
Panchaali made Prativindh burp once he was done, "thank you baby for being so easy on mata." She said as she kissed his forehead, her work calling her.
She welcomed the Kings and Queens from the neighbouring kingdoms, she talked with the queens, she personally knew no one but it was her duty as a queen to welcome them and so she did that.
She guided everyone to the dining hall were all the preparations were made, the pandavas sat with the kings and the queens were made to sit on the opposite side. Panchaali being the host was busy instructing, "Everything is here?" She asked as she looked at the daasis, who nodded. "Good. Now let's being the serving." She said as she along with daasis begin to serve. Each pandav gave her a smile as she served them making her blush, once done everyone said the prayers and began the breakfast.
The pandavas looked at Panchaali with a raised brow, and pointed to their plates with their eyes, signalling her to come and give them the first bite. Her eyes widened as her heart jolted in her chest, they can't be serious, could they? She knew that it was their little ritual that she fed each of the four pandavas the first bite and Bheem his last one, but now there were so many of guests present.
The daasis bit back their smiles at the adorableness of their Kings and Queen. Panchaali shook her head subtly, giving them her best puppy dog look, they sighed in disappointment before they began eating. Panchaali sighed in relief, thank god they didn't call her out to come and feed them, it would have been so embarrassing. She helped serve here and there, the Pandavas eyes eyes tracing her every move subtly as they talked with the guests.
Sahadev's hand tightened on the dagger, as his eyes focused on his wife who stood in the corner talking to one of the daasis, something was moving on the floor next to her near the curtains but the man in front of him wouldn't stop talking and he couldn't turn his head or it would be rude.
He tapped his plate twice, no one noticed except the pandavas. They couldn't look at each other as they all were in a discussion but they were aware of Sahadev's signal for distraction. Bheem who sat far away from Sahadev, smiled and nodded at the man in front of him and picked the glass to his lips, he took a sip and pretended to choke on it. Making everyone look at him, it was all that chance Sahadev needed as he shot the dagger with precision at whatever thing that was moving behind curtains.
Panchaali rushed to her husband, her face a complete mask of worry, as he continued to choke, her heart beating wildly in her chest as dread flooded her system. "Arya?" Her voice was dripping with worry, Bheem heard the tap of Sahadev again, signalling that the work was done. He took a deep breath and sat straighter, a smile appearing on his face. "I am fine. The food just went in the wrong pipe." He smiled and began eating like nothing ever happened, Panchaali looked at husband completely confused as she stood up, that was really strange.
Everyone smiled seeing that Bheem was okay and began to eat, "the food is really good maharani." One of the kings complimented, Panchaali smiled and nodded in respect."I would like to swipe recipes with you, this food really is amazing." Another queen complimented, "Really maharani, the credit goes to my mata, and my friend Bhumika." She added the last part with a mischievous smile as the pandavas bit back a laugh as they recalled Bheem's avatar as a eunuch. Vrikodar smirked at his wife's naughtiness.
Yudhisthir smiled at her humbleness, as did the others around. Slowly everyone began to live, Sahadev sneaked towards were he had thrown the dagger, his eyes widened as he saw the blood. He lifted the curtain as he removed the dagger, to reveal a deadly poisonous cobra, he was dead.
His breath hitched as he recalled how close the damn thing had been to his wife, the damn organ in his chest pumped faster as dread seeped in his soul, if he had waited for a moment, she would be dead.
He looked around the room where now only the daasis were there talking to his wife, his heart throbbed as he looked at his little innocent flower who was unaware of everything. She was busy talking, her lips moved as they gave instructions, her one hand was under the butt of their son holding him close to her chest, her other hand rubbing on his back as her body moved subtly from side to side as she tried to lull their baby to sleep.
"Ekaant!" His voice rang throughout the room, the servants left as Panchaali turned around to look at him, her confused smile playing on her lips, "Arya?" She asked confused, that was all it took as he marched towards her with an intensity on his face, he pulled her in his arms, hugging her and their son close. His lips slammed hard against hers, as he kissed her with a desperation, the kiss had his terror, his love, his pain as he ravished her lips, assuring himself that she was indeed there right in front of him, safe and sound in his arms.
Panchaali only hesitated for a moment, before she responded back, she didn't know what had him all so riled up but she did her best, she poured all her love, her care, her feelings for him, to sooth him.
"I love you." She whispered as he pulled back, her hand moving from their son's back to cup his cheek as he pressed his lips to her palm. "I love you more." He whispered, he felt his son's hand on his other cheek as he gave a watery laugh. "Yes, I love you too." He said as he pressed his lips to their son's head, "maa aa a" Prativindh said the only word that he could say making the two laugh.
He kissed his son's nose, and than Panchaali's, "You two be careful. Feed him nothing else but your breast milk today. And before eating something or drinking have it tasted by one of the servants or us. And no leaving our sight." He ordered, his voice grave as his eyes held concern, she nodded, he gave her a smile and kissed the two one last time before guiding them out.
That snake was not a native one, plus he knew that Nakul had made sure along with his team of soldiers had removed every organism from around the palace that could be dangerous to their wife or son and were released in jungles far from here. Plus that kind of snakes were nowhere to be found here, that meant only one thing, someone had brought the snake here.
His hands clenched as he moved out of the dining room, his snapped his fingers as he walked, one louder other one not so loud. The other four Pandavas bodies went taut as they talked with the other kings, Sahadev's signal of danger alerting them, their eyes subtly moving around as they searched for their wife, their hearts eased a bit as they watched her with Sahadev.
"Let's go." Yudhisthir said as he guided the guests to the meeting room, the pandavas subtly guided everyone in such a way that Panchaali would have no other place to sit except for the seat between Arjun and Bheem, two of the strongest Pandavas.
Panchaali found it strange the way people were seated, she was meant to sit with the queens not her husbands.
The room had a huge table that reached to their chests when they sat, instead on chairs, comfortable couches were provided. A huge crystal was kept in the center of the table that would later show the areas and plan from the magical power it held once the room submerged in darkness.
Her eyes subtly moved to another magical crystal, that would enable only the pandavas to see clearly in the darkness. She sat on the couch in between Arjun and Bheem, who each gave her a smile.
Nakul came in with a tray and moved to the corner, far away from others were Arjun sat with their little family. He gave the tray of food and water to Panchaali, "Eat priye, you haven't eaten anything." He said as he gave it to her, concern marring his features, she squeezed his hand subtly assuring him, she wasn't sure what was wrong but she didn't like seeing them worried, he smiled before seating on the conch next to Bheem with Sahadev.
"Eat." Arjun said as he took Prativindh from her and laid him on his chest, Bheem kept the tray on her lap, she took a piece of ladoo and took it Bheem's lips, knowing very well he would be still hungry without her or Kunti feeding him. He smiled as he took the bite, she began eating, after a few bites she felt full, Bheem and Arjun shook their heads and gave her a pointed look willing her to eat more.
She ate more, till she had finished half of the food on the plate and looked at them with her puppy dog eyes, if she ate more she'll die, they smirked and nodded, she drank a few sips of water but one pointed look from Arjun and she drank the full glass making him smile.
Bheem took the tray and passed it to a dasi who took it and left. A small chit was passed to the pandavas with two words, nonnative snake, it was from Sahadev and they instantly understood what it meant.
Arjun tapped Panchaali's knee making her look up at him, as he signaled her to sit on the couch with folded legs, again this was weird but she didn't question as she folded her legs and sat, he laid Prativindh in her lap. She smiled as the room was submerged in darkness, Yudhisthir announced to everyone about the crystal and what is about to present.
The pandavas could see in the darkness as clear as day, while the others could only see the holographic images began to appear on the surface of table from the crystal.
The people had already been surprised and mesmerized by the magical palace of Indraprasth and the beautiful queen that the pandavas had but this was talking it to another level.
Nakul began the explanations as the images kept shifting and changing. Prativindh had slept and tiredness was catching up with Draupadi too, she tried to keep her eyes open but that seemed impossible, her eyes were getting heavier and heavier, her back ached and so did her feet.
Bheem noticed her struggle and touched Arjun's hand, who looked at him to his wife. He smiled as he delicately took Prati in his arms and passed it to Sahadev, who smiled affectionately as his eyes fell on his wife.
Bheem lightly pulled her so she was laying on her side with her head in his lap, while Arjun adjusted her legs and pulled them in his lap, he took the sleeping son and laid him on the couch, between the backrest and his mother. Vrikodar removed her heavy earrings as Dhananjay undid her kamarband, one by one they removed all her jewelry, their fingers touching and tracing her silky skin. They removed everything what she would, but no one dared to touch her mangalsutr, one thing she never parted with except for bath time and during their intimate moments.
Sahadev passed him a blanket, that he had one of the daasis to go and get, once noticed that a good part of his wife's waist and the back was exposed once the odhni from her head was removed.
Arjun smiled as he covered her with the soft, plush blanket. He passed her jewelry to the maids, his hands massaging her feet, to ease her exhaustion as Bheem ran his hand through her hair, that were still braided.
The two smiled at their wife, she did so many things for them, she woke up before any of them and went to bed last. So it was no wonder she was exhausted.
The meeting came to an end and soon the room was lit up, no one noticed her sleeping because of the huge table.
People began to move out talking about the proposals that Yudhisthir had offered. Bheem and Arjun moved to the center of the room, where all the other pandavas were gathered, Maya moved to wake the queen and ask her about the lunch preparations.
"Don't." Yudhisthir stopped her, she turned around and bowed respectfully, "but Maharaj what about the lunch serving and other things?" She asked confused, "I will sort all the confusions you have. Let her sleep she needs her rest." Bheem ordered making the dasi nod, "Rajkumar you..?" She asked in doubt, "Taking care of five husbands, a baby and a mother in law, along with her duties as a queen is not an easy task and she does it graceful but let's not forget she is a human too and needs her rest, and it's our duty as her husbands to make sure that she gets enough rest, food and sleep. If we don't keep an eye on her, she'll either land up hurting herself or working till she is exhausted, hence we are here to see that doesn't happen." Nakul said with a smile as the brothers looked affectionately at their wife, the dasi smiled and left, "Silly girl, I don't know what to do with her." Sahadev added, his words laced with love. "Yes, thinks she's some super woman who can do everything." Arjun continued, with a smitten look on his face.
"Let's get to work. Nakul stay with her and Prati, keep them out of trouble." Yudhisthir ordered as Nakul nodded and the other pandavas turned around and left. . .
