Nakul watched the sunset, soft cool wind played with his hair. Today the war had been over, after three days and tomorrow morning they would leave for Panchaal, to their wife. Everything was calm and quite but nothing seemed alright to him.
Since the day he left his wife alone, his mind and heart were not at peace. "Just one more night Panchaali, just one more night and than we'll be together." He thought mentally as he tried to hold on to the patience.
His heart felt really heavy like someone had put thousands of rocks on his heart. Panchaali, her name was like a mantra that he repeated over and over again. He teased Draupadi the most but he loved her just as much, he hadn't said those words to her but right this moment he regretted not saying it to them.
He wanted to hug her close and whisper in her ear that he loved her, that she was his life, that without Draupadi there won't ever be Nakul.
He really missed her, he wanted to hold her, to comb her hair, to lay next to her and watch the stars. Even the simplest task with her like star gazing seemed so much better, her life seemed so much better.
If he could he would fly to her right this moment and kiss her, he missed her so much. Staying away from her made him realise just how much more he loved her. He always heard from his married friends that at times distance faded the love that to people have but for him, he felt like his love for his wife increased with each passing moment.
Sahadev could sense the feelings of his twins, those matched with his. "Do you think she'll like the necklace we brought her?" Nakul asked as he turned to his twin, who smiled at him with sweetly.
"You know she'll like anything that we give her with love. Our girl is special, she sees the deeds behind the gift not the cost of it." Sahadev said with a smile, "And that's the exact reason why I want to give her the world. She's just so precious." Nakul whispered, his eyes had a far away look on them as a loving smile appeared on his face as her smiling face appeared in his mind.
Sahadev smiled as he looked at the dark sky, stars twinkling. He closed his eyes as he took deep long breath, the cool wind filled his lungs and with them came the memory of his wife. The first day he had seen her, the smile on her face, he had almost forgotten how to breath as how beautiful she looked but it wasn't her looks that had him fall in love with her, it was her soul. Her heart. Pure and filled with innocence.
She is just so delicate, he wanted to hide her in his arms and protect her from every evil out there. He could still remember the silly girl taking all their pain during the wedding rituals. To others they might have seem minor but to the pandavas it was the worst kind of torture to see her that hurt.
The next day she had been fine but they had been very careful with her, to see if anything hurt. If she was hiding something as she had the habit of putting others in front of her. And that was he something adored and hated about her, he loved that she was so selfless but a selfish part of him hated it because he didn't want to ever see her hurt because it hurt him, she was a part of him, they weren't two different people they were one single soul.
Arjun dried his wet hair with a towel as he looked at the dark sky at the night, the lake was calm. "Aren't you supposed to look away Panchaali?" Arjun asked as he turned around to look at his wife sitting on the rock, looking up at him. He knew she was not there, that this was just a part of his imagination but he couldn't help but talk to her. Without her this past few days had been hell, he looked at her. She was just a piece of his imagination but the peace he felt on seeing her was unlike anything before.
She shook her head, "Why should I look away arya? We are married aren't we?" She asked boldly, her voice a sweet whisper as she raised her brow in challenge. He laughed as he sat next to her, "if only you were so bold my love." He laughed as he looked at the figment of his imagination.
Arjun moved his hand to cup her face, and just like that she vanished, sadness filled his being. He missed, he missed her so much that his heart hurt. It made him feel like his soul was slowly dying, she was his everything and this separation from her was hurting him. He stood up as he sighed heavily moving to find his brothers.
Bheem laid not far from where Nakul and Sahadev sat, his mind too was filled with the images of his wife. To his right side sat Yudhisthir, his eyes were closed he too probably was thinking about their wife. Bheem smiled, her one smile was enough to make him light up with happiness and her one tear was enough to fill him with sadness. He didn't know when she became so important to him but now she was his sole reason to live, his one reason why he woke up everyday.
Without her he didn't see the point in being alive, what would he do? He just wished that right now she was in his arms, her head on his chest while he ran his fingers through her long dark hair.
Yudhisthir felt calm as he thought about his wife, "Dharmraj." They way she would say his name was just so different, no one called him Dharmraj except her. The way she said it with so much love and laced with respect had his heart beating faster than normal.
Her image came floating to his mind bringing a sweet smile on his face. He wanted nothing more than hug her, keep her safe in his arms as they both laid here under the open sky, his head resting on her lap while she ran her soft delicate fingers through his hair.
Arjun saw all his brothers sitting and sleeping around, when the galloping of horses had them all on high alert. They all jumped up to stand, their eyes settled on the path from where two women were coming towards them on horses. As they got closer, the pandavas breath hitched, a feeling of dread pooling in their stomach, whatever it was, it was not a good news.
The pandavas rushed forward once the horses came to a stop, Arjun and Sahadev helped Subhadra down as the rest pandavas helped their mother.
They took them in and made them sit down, "What happened mata?" Bheem asked worried as he looked at his mata, at his question she bursted in tears and Subhadra followed her soon after.
The flap to the tent opened and in walked Krishna, "Bhraatashree!" She called out as she rushed to him, he wrapped his arms around her. "Subhadre what happened?" He asked, worry lacing his words. Subhadra slowly took a deep breath as she began to tell everyone what happened. She looked at Kanha, as she told them everything.
Tears filled the eyes of Krishna, he was feeling his Sakhi's pain and fear. But this was fate, but now the time for Harshavardhan's death was near.
Sahadev was filled with shock, his heart was twisting in pain, his wife, his love of life, his Malini was in pain and what was he doing? Sitting here. His body felt numb like the soul was stolen from his body. "Panchaali." Her name left his mouth, his voice was filled with pain and sounded so broken that Kunti began to cry even louder.
Arjun roared in anger as his heart felt shredded, he felt like a vessel. A vessel that was filled with nothing but anger, anger that demanded the blood of that scoundrel Harshavardhan. "I'll kill him! I will kill him, shred him to pieces, there would nothing be left of him,no one, NO ONE DARES TOUCH MY MALINI!" He shouted making everyone jump in fear, fury coursed through his body wild and fast threatening to burn everyone. Right this moment he didn't care about anything, nor the time, the place, all he wanted was to hear the screams of Harshavardhan, to see him cry, and most importantly to peel of his skin.
"I told her to forget the dharm but she said how could she, after all she's the wife of Dharmraj." Subhadra's words pierced through Yudhisthir's heart, he felt like he couldn't breath. He felt as though his body was burning with acid, like every part of him was slowly dying. Like he was slowly dying losing himself in the world of pain, his precious Malini was in hell. She must so alone and scared, so very scared.
"All the while they whipped her jiji didn't make one sound, not one scream,or gasp or even a tear rolled down her cheek. She is so brave." Those words did it for Bheem, he growled as he kicked the vase in the room that went tumbling away before shattering. He felt like destroying everything, his hands itched to wrap around the throat of that monster, he wanted to strangle him. He wanted to break every bone in that man's body.
"I will break every bone in his body with my gada (mace). He would beg for mercy but I shall give him none, I'll avenge every tear that had dropped from the eyes of Malini, he will pay for all the pain that he has made her feel!" He shouted, his words laced with so much hatred.
Nakul felt nothing, no tears, no pain, just nothing. He felt like his soul had abandoned him, his Malini was in pain, his Malini was hurt. She was suffering, she was scared, she's all alone and She's with that monster.
He fisted his hand, no he won't cry, he won't. He gritted his teeth as his jaw set, the muscles in his body were taut. His mind filled with the images of Draupadi all alone and afraid, crying and hurt. Fury like never before coursed through his body, he felt as though the lava of anger was slowly bubbling under his skin and the only thing that left was for this volcano of anger to erupt. That he would and this anger of his would burn everything down to ashes. He would destroy Harshavardhan, he wouldn't let him die, no that would be way easy punishment for him, he would make him beg for his death, yet he wouldn't let him die. He would make his life worse than death.
The pandavas all looked at each other, a look of determination passing through their faces. They picked up their weapons as they marched out of the tent, fury masking their features. The people around moved away from them, giving them way to leave because right in this moment all the five brothers looked like the death god Yamraj himself.
The only thing that reverberated through the minds of the five brothers was the death of that monster, a death so painful that every living or dead being would think thrice before ever even looking at Panchaali with an evil eye. During their wedding they had vowed to protect her, to destroy every person who so much so as looked at her in the wrong way and this monster had dared to harm her, to whip her! He shall not be forgiven, he would die, he had to! There was just no other way around it. "Just hold on Panchaali, we are coming for you. . ." The pandavas thought as they moved, their horses ran faster. . .
