"Is your door locked already? " Kyla incessantly turned the knob for the nth time already.

"Yes sis. "  I tied my shoelaces and finger combed my hair.

"Is your air-conditioner turned off? "

We were now walking in the hallways. It's Saturday and the first day of our three-day trip at Elle's.

"Where's your card?  Did Sister already signed it? What's your excuse this time? Birthday party?  You know you can't say study outs anymore because sem's over. "

I stopped walking and looked at her.
She stopped talking too and looked at me dead in the eye.

" Your laundry? Did you already---"

" Yep."

She was too caught up chitchatting she didn't notice we were already in the elevator.

The elevator ride was silent.

We were the only ones in the lift.

"It's soo quiet. " She moved closer.

"Most of the dormers went home last night. Sister's office was jam-packed. Maybe she felt like a celebrity. Avid fans asking for her signature to get the home pass. " I checked my phone to see if Brit's already here.

As usual, she didn't sleep at the dorm. It was a miracle sister haven't kicked her out yet.

" Zeb, have you heard of stories here? The second floor? "

Her eyes locked on the number above.

"No. Just the 3rd floor. " I continued fumbling with my phone.

"Zebra stop playing. "

"I'm not. "

"Phew. I thought it's going to open at 3rd floor. I heard dormers say it's opening without no one pressing buttons. "

The elevator doors opened.

My eyes bulged while Kyla snuggled closer. Her face buried into the crevices of my neck.

" Bless us Oh Lord and these thy gifts which we are---" Her eyes were shut close.

"Are you crazy?  That's grace before meals! "

I stepped out of the elevator and looked at both ways. No one was here. Someone would've pressed the 2 button in OR out. Clearly we didn't.

I was about to go back in but she scurried out and started running down the stairs.

I followed suit.
