Chapter 3
She might be a good candidate, Valerie thought as her conscience forced her to walk unknowingly back to where she was.
"I thought you left." Hayden stated as she watched Valerie's uncertain face walk towards her.
"I may have something to offer." Valerie stated with confidence. Uncertainty left her expression as firmness took over.
"And what might that be?" Hayden asked cautiously.
"I can multiply your power to limits you cannot even imagine." Valerie said, locking her eyes with Hayden's. She did not drop eye contact as she continued to speak, "it's what everyone wants, isn't it? More power." she said, almost inaudible due to her low whisper.
"Why are you whispering?" Hayden asked, whispering herself, thinking that someone was eavesdropping.
"Are you interested or not?" Valerie asked, not wanting to waste time on talking about things that didn't matter.
"I might be." Hayden said as her thoughts swirled around the words she was hearing. Power. That was something she wanted and needed.
"Of course you're interested. The thing about wolves," Valerie said, clicking her tongue "is that they always want more."
"You know you do too, else you wouldn't have offered to make a deal." Hayden said, as she looked around for people.
Someone must be here. No one makes deal like this with a good motive.
Almost as if she had read her thoughts, Valerie spoke "I came alone, love."
"It's Hayden." she corrected instantly.
"Right. Sorry 'bout that." she replied.
"Are you interested in continuing our discussion?" Valerie asked, masking away the hope in her eyes.
"I will. Once you tell me what's in it for you." Hayden said, remembering every word her father had said.
You can never be too careful.
Sure, they were only six words but every one of them meant something to her.
"There's nothing in it for me." Valerie said with a stoic expression.
"If something goes wrong, where's my guarantee that you will make it right?" Hayden asked.
"You're just going to have to trust me. This doesn't help me in any way." Valerie said.
"I want it in writing. I want you to give me your word that nothing bad will come out of this." Hayden said.
"Even is something does go wrong, it's not like you can sue me for failing you and my magic." Valerie said.
Well, that confirms that she is a witch, Hayden thought.
"I'm going to have to think about it." Hayden stated after a few seconds of thinking.
"Take your time. It's Valerie Houston, in case you decide." Valerie said.
"Hayden Montgomery." she said as Valerie walked away, the sound of her footsteps disappearing.
I cannot trust her.
'*•.¸♡ ♡¸.•*'
The feeling of having something and realizing that you don't. That was something that angered Hayden the most.
Why can't I just have it? she thought with frustration as she threw her fists at the same wall that she had seen Valerie in. She flinched in pain as blood ran down her knuckles, leaving a burning sensation on her palms.
Gritting her teeth in anger, all she could think of was chasing a worthless human being who didn't deserve to live as he ran in fear, screaming for help. She wanted to devour him, her wolf canines to sink deep into his skin as blood oozed out of his body.
All she wanted was to inflict pain.
She could hear her wolf self, begging to be freed so they could cause pain together.
Just one more week, she thought, waiting impatiently for the arrival of the full moon.
Is he denying me the chance to be alpha only because I'm female or because I have a problem? she thought as she let her anger subside.
I never was and never will be the desired daughter. she thought, her heart sinking at the thought of her being a pathetic wolf who couldn't even control her emotions.
As long as she could remember, all she did was get into fights. Her anger was something she could never control, causing her teachers to call her father at least once a month.
She was diagnosed with Intermittent explosive disorder. Being a wolf only made her anger even more uncontrollable, making her the outcast.
Maybe he just doesn't want to make someone who is as unpredictable as me and alpha, she thought, making her hope shatter.
Cameron, on the other hand was perfect, when you only have Hayden to compare him with. He was poised almost all the time and was always in control of his emotions.
How do I find her if I only know her name? Hayden thought as she started walking at a fast pace, trying to trace back to where she saw Valerie go. Her bleeding hand was the least of her worries at that particular moment.
I have made up my mind.
She knew that this wasn't the smartest decision she made but that didn't matter.
The only thing that mattered was power.
She may not be a wolf right now but her sense of smell was at least two times better than a human.
She picked up the smell of dirty laundry, the same smell she could sense when Valerie was around.
"Valerie?" She yelled at the top of her lungs, hoping she was near by.
She couldn't have gone that far, she thought as she looked around her.
"Made up your mind?" she heard some ask from behind her.
"Yes, I did." Hayden said, turning around to face Valerie.
"Good to know." Valerie said, her eyes' focus shifting towards her bleeding knuckles.
"I thought you said punching the innocent wall will do more harm than good." Valerie stated, amused.
"Maybe I changed my mind." Hayden replied as her back stifled.
Maybe I shouldn't have said that, Valerie thought, watching Hayden shift her feet uncomfortably.
"Well, if you want to do this, there is something you should know." Valerie stated. She might have wanted to try it on someone but she would never let someone do something without them fully understanding it.
"What is it?" Hayden asked.
"From what I worked on, this is supposed to make you stronger, that is muscular strength. You will possibly be stronger than any wolf that has ever walked on Earth." Valerie stated.
"It's everything I ever wanted. What's the catch?" Hayden asked, her heart pounding with excitement and worry.
"I don't know what happens before the desired outcome is reached. There might be side effects." Valerie said.
"I'm just going to have to trust you then." Hayden stated.
"I do not want you to blame me if something goes wrong." Valerie said sternly.
"Fine." Hayden replied.
"It's a deal then?" Valerie asked.
"It's a deal."
