Chapter 25
White lights blinded her eyes as she stood between the clearing of trees and a busy road. She panted heavily and wiped the sweat that rolled down her forehead off her face.
Between the racing cars and the loud chatter of people, Hayden felt somewhat safe. She made her way to the sidewalks and followed a group of people.
Soon, she found herself in front of a cafe and walked in. She sat on a chair and rubbed her face with her fingers as people's chatter filled her ear.
What will I do now? she asked herself in utter hopelessness. She had no idea what was going on, and the people who did know wouldn't tell her.
Why didn't Isla follow me? she thought with confusion. Nothing made sense and now she allegedly wasn't even a wolf anymore.
What has happened to me? she wondered, trying to suppress the panic that rose every time she thought about the full moon. Neither could she transform with her own will, nor could she transform with the light of the moon.
"What would you like to order?" a blonde girl asked, snapping Hayden out of her thoughts.
"Just hot water, thanks." she said with dull eyes.
She stared at the plain wall in front of her, thinking of what to do, but nothing seemed to end well.
I should just hide somewhere, lay low or something, Hayden thought. The waitress placed the cup of hot water in front of Hayden and walked off to tend to other customers.
She stared at her face which was reflected by the water. Her eyes said it all, and she knew she had no escape.
After all, who could stay hidden from a witch?

"Isn't this unfortunate?" Valerie asked, whistling as she walked closer to the now human Isla.
The moon was completely covered by the clouds, causing everyone to become humans again.
"Here," Valerie said, tossing a shirt in Isla's direction, which she took hurriedly.
"How does it feel, being able to move again?" Valerie asked as Isla hid behind a tree.
"Very liberating." she replied through huffs and puffs. All the while, she was curious as to why Gwenyth didn't do what she promised.
"Gwenyth came by today," Valerie said and Isla's ears perked up.
"It's really unfortunate; I thought we were becoming friends." Valerie said as Isla exposed herself from the trees.
"What are you talking about?" Isla asked.
"This is why you don't trust kids, Isla. She was too overconfident and now look where that has brought us." Valerie said, sounding ominous.
"Could you just get to the point!" Isla exclaimed, but Valerie could hear the worry in her voice. Worry that Gwenyth had let it slip.
"She said, and I quote when you turn down deals a hundred times, it's hard to trust you." Valerie said.
Isla gasped as her heart raced in fear.
Gwenyth is a-, Isla thought but was cut off by Valerie's stern voice.
"You've made your doom, Isla." Valerie said, her eyes filled with rage.
"Wait! I can explain-" Isla began but stopped when she looked at Valerie. She had never seen her lose her cool for anything, almost like she couldn't even get angry but now, she saw the new side of her.
"Valerie, please just hear me out!" Isla begged.
"Alright be quick!" Valerie barked, leaving Isla stunned.
"How can you expect me to trust you after all the times you've let me down?" Isla asked sternly as Valerie's rage only seemed to grow.
"Real nice, just blame it on me." Valerie spat in anger.
"I can call it off, I can-" Isla began but stopped mid-sentence.
"Betrayal is unforgivable." Valerie said with fiery eyes. Rays shot out of her hands, striking Isla with her back slamming on the tree trunk.
"Valerie I-" Isla said but before she could finish, she felt something grab her neck. He gasped for her but she felt the air choke her. She felt her eyes water as her throat felt sore.
"Val-" Isla tried to speak but it felt like her throat was blocked and she couldn't hear her voice.
Her eyes started to wander into darkness and she felt her breathing stop. Her skin slowly turned pale, revealing all the veins in her body.
"You asked for this-" Valerie began but her words stopped in mid-air. She fell to the ground, which immediately released Isla from the strong grasp she was held in.
Valerie grabbed her back and groaned in pain as she felt her hand moisten. She looked at her hand and her eyes widened at the sight of blood.
"You created your destiny when you killed them all." an eerie voice said.
"Gwenyth." Valerie grunted under her pain and anger. Gwenyth walked in front of Valerie and sat on her toes as she looked Valerie straight in the eye.
"I may not have my magic anymore but with you gone, I can say that I will finally live in peace." Gwenyth said with a cold look in her eye as she brought the bloody knife closer to Valerie.
"You will never have peace." Valerie said through gritted teeth as she tried to summon her magic.
To her disappointment, nothing worked. She was far too weak to be able to handle her magic and using it would only kill her.
At this point I know I'm going to die, she thought, biting her lips to not scream in pain, I might as well die knowing that I took her down with me.
She silently whispered incantations, looking up every second to see the malicious glint in Gwenyth's eyes.
She felt something course through her veins, the last piece of magic she would ever use.
At least I get to make myself proud, she thought, lifting her hand, pointing it at Gwenyth's chest.
"You underestimate me sometimes." Valerie said.
Magic shot out of her fingertips, racing towards Gwenyth, who was only inches away. She felt something strike her heart as her body began to feel wobbly.
"What-" Gwenyth began but something stole her voice. She croaked and grunted but she could neither speak nor feel anything. Anything except pain.
She clutched her chest, trying to soothe the pain but realized it was too late. She felt her soul get sucked out of her body.
Her body fell to the ground as the forest seemed to quiet down all of a sudden.
Valerie let out a weak chuckle before looking at Isla.
"Looks like you got what you wanted." Valerie said before she shut her eyes, ready to be taken to whichever afterlife she deserved.
I guess I did.
