Chapter 19
Gwenyth tucked her hair behind her ear and crossed her arms as she stood on the cold surface of cobblestone. She had seen herself sleeping through the day for she didn't have the motivation to move on. Still, here she was waiting for her mother's terminator.
She held Isla completely responsible but she couldn't help but listen to what she had to say. After all, she knew that deep down it was all part of Valerie's plan and she had a way with her words.
She rubbed her eyes, getting rid of the stray tear that she tried to hold back. Her mother was gone and there was nothing she could do about it.
Her wristwatch beeped at the start of a new hour and on cue, she heard a voice behind her.
"I'm glad you could make it." Isla said. Gwenyth turned around to face her and couldn't help but feel rage. Her eyes turned bloodshot as she dragged her feet on the ground, trying to control herself.
"I wanted to say that I was sorry." Isla said. She knew that there would be collateral damage along the way but the fact that she took someone's mother from them stung.
"That's why you came? Your apology means nothing to me." Gwenyth said. She hated that she had to grow up so soon. She hated that she would no longer be pampered with food and luxuries. But the actuality that Valerie always gets what she wants was what she hated the most.
"That's only one of the reasons I came. I am here to make you a deal." Isla said.
"Did Valerie send you here?" Gwenyth asked with a raised eyebrow. It was no surprise that Valerie had puppets to control but it angered her.
"She only wants to make it up to you." Isla said, spitting out those blatant lies.
"Say it and leave!" Gwenyth said as she raised her voice.
Nothing that I say will change her mind about us, Isla thought as she looked at Gwenyth with pity. No one should have had to witness murder, let alone of their mother in front of their eyes.
"Valerie says she can help you meet your family again." Isla said. She wasn't too sure what the deal was either, she was merely a messenger.
"Knowing her, she probably means I'll meet them through death." Gwenyth said.
"She says that there is a way to make your life better." Isla said.
"Says the person who ruined it!" Gwenyth screamed through gritted teeth.
"Will you at least consider it?" Isla asked, not knowing what to expect.
"What does she want me to do?" Gwenyth asked.
"She just needs you to sit and give her energy." Isla said.
Should I? Gwenyth asked herself with doubt. The last thing she wanted to do was help Valerie but she always held her end of the deal.
She did bring that werewolf back to life, Gwenyth thought.
Isla noticed Gwenyth thinking and heaved a sigh of relief. She wouldn't be thinking about it if she wasn't considering it.
I'm just going to have to convince her, Isla thought and cleared her throat.
"I am sorry for what I did, which is why I want to make it up to you. I wouldn't lead you into a lion's den." Isla said.
"I'll come, but she better hold her end of the deal." Gwenyth said.
"I'll make sure of it."

Valerie sat on the front porch, waiting for Isla's return. If anyone could convince Gwenyth, it was Isla.
Then again, it's not hard to convince a fifteen-year old, Valerie thought. She stood up immediately as she saw Isla approach her.
"How'd it go?" Valerie asked with curiosity.
"She agreed to it but you're going to have to bring her mother back." Isla said.
"My mother." Valerie pointed out sternly.
"What's your problem with that girl anyway?" Isla asked, curiosity getting the better of her.
"Her parents died because they were way too useless to deal with magic and my mother, being the empathetic woman she is decided to help." Valerie said with disgust in her tone.
"So you're jealous. That's it? That's why you hate her so much." Isla asked.
"I've got nothing to be jealous of. She just turned everyone against me and I'm the only one who sees her true nature." Valerie said.
"So, are you going to bring your mother back?" Isla asked.
"What makes you think I can?" Valerie asked.
"You did it with Hayden." Isla pointed out.
"That was unintentional. Besides, I didn't aks you to kill her if I was just going to bring her back." Valerie said.
"But she's your mother-" Isla began but was cut off by Valerie.
"Know your limits Isla." Valerie said with annoyance, "Why do you want her back anyway?"
"Gwenyth only agreed to help because she thinks she'll see her mother again." Isla said.
"There's nothing I can do about that." Valerie stated.
"But you never go back on your deal!" Isla exclaimed. It was bad enough that she ruined someone's life but now she was lying to her to.
"I didn't make the deal, did I?" Valerie asked. Isla opened her mouth to retaliate but stopped when she saw uncertain footsteps approach them.
Valerie's lips morphed into a wide smile as Gwenyth moved closer to her.
"Long time no see." Valerie said, retaining the smile on her face.
"Get it over with, will you." Gwenyth said, biting her lips as she spoke. It almost felt as if she was forgiving Valerie for everything she did.
I only doing this for mom, she reminded herself as she looked Valerie in the eye.
"Gladly." Valerie said and moved aside as she motioned Isla to enter the manor.
As soon as Gwenyth's feet touched the marble floor, nostalgia hit her like a speeding train. She balled her fists as she glanced at Valerie, only to see her with no regret.
"Sit down." Valerie said, pointing at the hassock she had placed in the living room. Valerie seated herself beside Gwenyth and flipped through the pages of the grimoire she gained possession of a few days ago. Gwenyth's eyes grew wide at the sight of it, eager to know what Valerie's plan was.
"What are you trying anyway?" Gwenyth asked.
"That's for me to know and for you to find out." Valerie said with a confident grin. Everything was going according to plan.
Valerie grabbed Gwenyth's hand and concentrated on the book before her. She mumbled unrecognizable words as she felt electrified. Her heart was pounding out of her chest as she could see her veins pop out.
Gwenyth on the other hand gasped as she could feel the energy draining out of her body. She choked on the air around her as she struggled to breathe. It was normal for witches to get extra energy for spells from others but the question was, why her?
She could have easily found someone else to do it for her.
Why does she specifically want me? Isla wondered as her breathing fluctuated from low to high.
Valerie could feel something inside of her, something she had never felt before. Her smile only grew wider and wider with every word that left her mouth. Papers hurled in different directions, creating a hurricane around them.
Gwenyth shifted her other arm towards her nose, terrified at the sight of it bleeding. Her adrenaline was rushing and she did everything she could to calm down. Controlling her breath was of no use as it wasn't even in her control. She tried jerking her hand away from Valerie as she realized what her plan was all along.
I should have recognized it sooner, Gwenyth exclaimed in her head, her hands trembling in pain and worry. She knew it was too late but that didn't stop her from trying.
Before she knew it, her surrounding calmed down and Valerie rose above. She looked at Valerie and saw something she had never seen before. Valerie smiled a lot but this time it was different.
Her eyes looked dark, only painting the wickedness to her smile brighter. Looking at her sent chills down Gwenyth's spine as the room felt cold.
It no longer felt like a place Gwenyth used to call home. It had a layer of bad energy that was only seeping deeper.
Gwenyth got up to her feet, her mind conflicted on what to do. Valerie turned her head towards her, maliciousness still lingering in the air.
With the same smile, Valerie spoke.
"We're done here."
