Chapter 15
Isla found herself in the main hall, surrounded by her pack members staring down at her. All the attention was a tad bit overwhelming since no one really noticed her before. And yet, here she was throwing out orders, spearheading the entire mission.
"They can't know that we're there." Isla repeated herself for the third time. She knew that it was drilled into their heads by now but she wasn't taking any chances.
"Are you sure you saw her there?" a guy asked, directing the question to Noah.
"I told you. I saw her with my own eyes." he replied with sincerity, earning nods from the crowd.
It was all settled at this point and no one was backing down. Isla looked up at the circular clock hanging on the wall. The minute's hand hit twelve as blaring noises from the clock indicated that it was twelve in the morning. The time had come.
"Let's go." Isla said, walking out of the house with the majority of the pack following her lead.
The dried leaves rustled under their footsteps, filling the quiet air that followed them as they walked. She turned back to look at their faces, wanting to know if they were just as nervous as her or was she the only one afraid.
"This will work right?" Noah asked, whispering into her ear.
"It's the only way." Isla replied, her eyes focused on the gigantic double doors that were coated with a fresh layer of auburn paint. The windows were dark, revealing nothing but a black room. It was safe to assume that they had gone to bed.
Whether they were asleep or not was arguable but no one goes to bed, prepared for an attack.
Isla placed her index finger over her lips, signaling them to remain silent. Isla's heart pounded as she lifted the window, entering the manor cautiously as her eyes tried to scan the entire room.
Soon, her pack followed her as they entered the room with the same caution as Isla.
"Stay here. Don't move until I ask you to." Isla whispered to the wolves that were a part of her backup plan.
"Who are you?" she heard someone ask behind her. She turned her head towards the origin of those words and stood dead in her tracks.
She's definitely not from the pack.
Before her stood a girl, only about five feet tall, her big hazel eyes stared at Isla's with a mix of fear and confusion.
It finally dawned on Isla that getting rid of the coven meant killing this innocent girl.
Before Isla could react, the girl flicked her hands, throwing Isla across the room. Her back hit the wall with a strong force, causing her to wince in pain.
"Mom!" she screamed, sprinting towards the door in an attempt to leave the room.
"Where do you think you're going?" Noah asked, grabbing her by the arm and shoving her inside the closet. She banged on the door, screaming for help as Isla stood dead in her tracks. She was supposed to spearhead the mission; show her pack that she was worthy now, she didn't even know what to do.
"Hurry up Isla! We must find Hayden!" Noah whispered, leaving the room with four men following him - as they had planned.
"What's wrong Gwenyth?" Isla heard the noise of an old woman approaching her. Instantly, she ducked behind a wooden desk with hopes that the night would cover her.
"I'm here, mom!" Gwenyth screamed as she continued to hit the closet door with her shoulder. Her mother rushed towards the door and unlocked it as soon as she got there.
"What happened?" her mother asked in worry, her eyes focused only on Gwenyth.
Now's my chance, Isla thought, maneuvering herself away from the table without making noise. Her eyes landed on a chair sitting right beside the table.
Without wasting a second, she picked it up and flung it across the room. It felt like time was slowed down as the moment of impact took forever. As soon as the chair hit the old woman's head, a moan escaped her lips as she curled up on the floor.
"Mom!" Gwenyth shrieked, her eyes widening at the sight of a dark red viscous liquid fill the room. Her eyes were filled with pain and anger as she knelt on the floor getting closer to her mother.
"Please get up mom." she begged, tears welling up in her eyes. At that moment, all Isla wanted was to hug her but how could she? She was the cause of her pain and suffering.
Screams filled the entire manor; from the witches and the wolves. Isla glanced at Gwenyth one last time, before she left the room to aid her pack.
"Is everything alright Noah." she asked as she spotted him leaning on the wall.
"Hayden is nowhere to be found. The witches deny having her here." he said, panting.
"You look like you're not saying something." Isla said, hoping for the best.
"Some of them died." Noah said, his body filled with guilt.
"Don't beat yourself up. We're doing the right thing." Isla said, patting his shoulder.
"Well, I hope you're right." he said, before getting interrupted by a deafening scream. The both of them rushed towards the source, only to be welcomed by ward blood caressing their feet.
There was blood on every corner of the room and looking at the corpses sent shivers down their spines.
"W-what happened?" Noah stammered as he walked to examine their bodies. Their eyes were wide open with blood escaping them. Hand hung loosely from their body, threatening to sever at any moment.
"Who could have done this?" Isla asked, not able to hide her emotions as easily as she used to.
"It couldn't have been one of us." Noah said, sounding a bit unsure.
"We should leave!" Isla said, pulling Noah along with her as she ran out of there.
It all finally dawned on her. Valerie didn't need her to kill them all. She only needed them as a distraction for, in the end, Valerie wanted to have the honor.
She truly is a monster, Isla thought as she grouped back with her pack, all of them looking at Noah for an explanation.
"They hid her well."

Gwenyth hid her face under her mother's arm, what once radiated heat felt like nothing more than a cold block of ice.
"I wish you were here mom." she said, her body trembling as tears rolled down her cheek. She stiffened her back as she heard footsteps approaching her.
"Pretty sad, eh? Valerie asked, kneeling to reach Gwenyth's level.
"V-Valerie?" Gwenyth asked in shock.
"They really thought they could strip me off my powers, didn't they?" Valerie asked, looking at the ceiling with pride.
"They're your family!" Gwenyth said, biting back her tears.
"Exactly. They were my family but you turned them against me. They had it coming." Valerie said with no remorse in her words.
"I can't believe you'd do this!" Gwenyth screamed, preparing to fight Valerie with her magic. But alas, she was too slow as Valerie moved her hands and pinned Gwenyth to the wall.
"They had it coming. However, you don't. From now on you live knowing that you were the reason the coven had to die and that you could do nothing about it." Valerie said, letting go of Gwenyth.
"You can't blame this on me!" Gwenyth said.
"But you already blame it on yourself." Valerie said, humming a dark tune rather loudly as she walked away from what was once her home with a smile.
They had it coming.
