Your second baby's first word

~ Zarkon ~

One evening while you and Zarkon were sitting on the couch while watching something on the tv, Gatrea was sitting on the floor with Zara, the two of them gently rolling a toy rubber ball to each other. You and Zarkon were happy that Gatrea was finally used to being a big sister. Every time the ball rolled to Zara, she giggled and rolled it back to her older sister. When something on the tv caught Gatrea's attention, Zara was confused why the ball wasn't being rolled over to her.

"B-b-ba-ba-ba." Zara babbled, looking directly at the ball.

"In a moment, Zara." Gatrea told Zara as she looked up at the tv.

Zara pouted, not happy that Gatrea wasn't rolling the ball to her. She looked up at the tv, but she didn't understand why anyone liked watching some kind of movie; even you and her father were focused on watching the movie.

"Ba-bal-ba-ba-ball!" Zara sounded out in a demanding voice, sticking her bottom lip out a little just like Gatrea sometimes did.

You, Zarkon and Gatrea looked directly at Zara as soon as she said 'ball'. You and Zarkon knew that she would be saying her first word soon, but neither of you were expecting it to be ball.

"Did she just say 'ball'?" Zarkon asked you with uncertainty, raising an eyebrow.

"Yeah, she did." You confirmed, a little surprised at what Zara's first word was.

Gatrea smiled, rolling the ball back across the floor to her baby sister. Zara giggled when the ball reached her, pushing it back over to her older sister. You thought it was cute how Zara liked the ball so much that it was her first word, but Zarkon was hoping that it would have been 'dada' or 'mama'. You leaned against your husband, and he wrapped an arm around your body. Regardless of what Zara's first word was, you both were proud of her for finally saying it.

~ Alfor ~

While Alfor was laying on the couch, Fallara was laying on her stomach, on his chest. Fallara was babbling things that no one could understand while looking up at her father. Lotarius was at school, so it was just you, your husband and your adorable daughter at home. You were sitting on the other side of the couch, casually reading an interesting book. Every so often you would glance at your daughter, subconsciously smiling.

"Yes, that's very interesting." Alfor told Fallara as though he could understand her.

Fallara liked it whenever either you, her father or her brother spoke to her; it made her feel listened to. She was good at babbling, but she wanted to say actual words, just like everyone around her. Alfor smiled as she started babbling happily again, making sure to make his ears twitch a few times.

"D-d-d." Fallara babbled, patting her father's chest with her tiny hands.

"Y/n, Fallara is trying to speak." Alfor said as calmly as he could, barely able to contain his excitement as he got your attention.

"She is?" You asked, putting a bookmark in your book before setting it down on the coffee table and sitting up.

Fallara kept trying to sound out her first word, unable to quite say it. You and Alfor listened in anticipation as she kept babbling. You both were so excited to hear what she was going to say, the two of you patiently waiting.

"D-d-d-da-d-da-da-dada." Fallara said, looking directly at her father's face.

"She spoke, Y/n!" Alfor cheered happily, a huge smile on his face.

"You did so good." You praised your daughter, scooting over a little so that you could be closer to her and your husband.

Alfor leaned forward and pressed a light kiss to the top of Fallara's head. Fallara kept saying 'dada' a few more times, giggling a little. You were happy that your daughter was beginning to talk, but at the same time you were a little sad; your second baby was growing up so fast. You shed a few tears of happiness, quickly wiping them away. Alfor was proud of Fallara too, and would try eventually teaching her how to say more words.

~ Blaytz ~

> Lyra <

It was just another day on Nalquod; Iris was at school, Blaytz wasn't needed to save the universe and you were in the kitchen with Blaze while Blaytz was in the living room with Lyra. Lyra and Blaze were around the age that they would be saying their first words, so you and Blaytz were often trying to get them to say either mama or dada. Blaytz, who was sitting on the couch while Lyra was sitting on his lap, was trying again.

"Come on Lyra, say daddy. Da-dd-y." Blaytz said with hope, wanting Lyra to say daddy.

Lyra looked up at her father with confusion, her feelers sticking straight up before slightly pointing in opposite directions, tilting her head slightly to the right. She understood what her father was saying, but she didn't understand what he wanted her to do.

"Say daddy, Lyra. Or dada." Blaytz said encouragingly, positioning his feelers to match his daughter's.

Lyra laughed and reached her hands up when she saw her father move his feelers. Blaytz quietly huffed in frustration, but he wasn't upset; Lyra was too cute to be upset with. When you walked into the living room while holding Blaze, Lyra and Blaytz looked at you.

"M-m-m-ma-mama." Lyra said when she saw you, turning her body a little to the side so that she could reach out and make grabby hands in your direction.

"Okay, I did not see that coming. But good job!" Blaytz began saying in an awkward tone, then praising his youngest daughter; he was proud of Lyra for saying her first word, regardless of what it was.

"Awww, did you teach her to say that?" You asked your husband when you sat on the couch, letting Blaze sit in between you and his father so that Lyra could crawl off of Blaytz' lap and onto yours.

"No, but I'm glad that she said 'mama'." Blaytz answered, smiling as he scooted closer to you.

You leaned closer to Blaytz, and he gave you a quick kiss on the lips. Lyra hugged you as best as she could, babbling happily to Blaze as though she was telling him about her accomplishment. You couldn't help but shed a few tears of pure happiness; you were just so proud of your daughter. You shared a few extra kisses with Blaytz before he told you how he was trying to get Lyra to say daddy as her first word before you walked into the living room, causing her to say mama.

> Blaze <

One day during early Summer, you and Blaytz decided to take all three of your children to a planet near the Dalterion belt that had a very nice beach. You made sure to tell the preschool teacher that Iris wasn't going to be at school on the day of the trip. After packing everything, including your three children, Blaytz flew the Blue Lion to the day vacation destination. It wasn't long before the Blue Lion landed near the beach so that you and Blaytz could set everything up. As you, Blaze and Lyra sat on one of the beach towels under the shade of a big umbrella, Blaytz and Iris were nearby, looking for seashells.

Lyra was being a little fussy since she was hungry, so you grabbed something for her to eat out of the picnic basket and gave it to her. Lyra happily took the snack and started eating while her twin brother, Blaze, sat next to her, looking at Blaytz and Iris. After a few minutes of just sitting there, Blaze tried crawling away.

"Where do you think you're going, little man?" You asked your son as you scooted over a little, picking him up and bringing him closer to you.

Blaze looked at you with big, round, grey eyes before twisting his body a little so that he could point at his father and older sister. He wanted to go look for seashells, too. You looked in the direction where he was pointing, not knowing exactly what he wanted.

"What?" You queried with uncertainty, raising one of your eyebrows.

"S-s-se-se-sesells!" Blaze said with excitement, still pointing towards his father and sister.

You quietly gasped, surprised that Blaze said his first word. Since Blaytz and Iris were nearby, they heard Blaze say his first word. They both walked over and sat down under the shade of the umbrella, putting down the pail of seashells.

"Blaytz, Blaze said his first word!" You told your husband with excitement, proud of your son.

"I heard. Good job, buddy." Blaytz responded, turning his attention to Blaze and lightly patting him on the head.

"Here you go Blaze, here's a pretty seashell. You can have it." Iris said, picking out a medium white and pink, spiral seashell before giving it to her younger brother.

Blaze smiled as he took the seashell, holding it as carefully as he could since he didn’t want it to accidentally break. You and Blaytz were proud of Iris for sharing one of the seashells with Blaze. Lyra wasn't really interested in the shells; she was too busy eating her snack. Blaytz and Iris were a little hungry after spending time on the beach looking for shells, so you took a couple of sandwiches out of the picnic basket and gave one to your husband and the other to your oldest daughter before getting something for yourself to eat out of the basket.

~ Gyrgan ~

Gemma was nearing her first birthday and she hadn't said her first word yet. She babbled incoherently, but nothing that was understandable. The doctor said that there was nothing wrong with her, which meant that she was just a late bloomer as far as talking went. You and Gyrgan were still concerned, but you both knew that there was no rushing that kind of thing. One day when Gyrgan had to leave in the Yellow Lion after Zarkon summoned him, you were alone at home with your daughter since Adu was at preschool.

It wasn't often that Voltron was needed around the universe, so Gyrgan would be home in a day or two. At the moment, you were getting Gemma ready for a bath, making sure to add a little bubble bath and a few bath toys. Once the bathtub was ready, you turned the water off and lowered a completely naked Gemma into the tub. Gemma giggled as she was lowered into the warm water and surrounded by bubbles. You were thankful that she didn't hate baths.

"Here, Gemma." You said when you handed her the rubber ducky.

Gemma splashed around a little before taking the rubber ducky from you, looking at it as she held it with her little hands. You smiled as you knelt by the tub, letting her play in the water for a little while. Gemma babbled as she looked at the rubber ducky, giving it a squeeze and making it squeak.

"S-s-s-" Gemma babbled, trying to sound out a word.

You became excited when Gemma started trying to speak for the first time, hoping that she would finally say her first word. You didn't say anything or move, not wanting to accidentally distract her.

"Sq-s-s-sqeak!" Gemma blurted out after a few moments of sounding her first word out, finally getting the hang of it.

"Good job, Gemma!" You said proudly, praising your daughter for saying her very first word; you had been afraid that she never would ever talk, but now she figured it out.

"Squeak squeak squeak!" Gemma said three more times, squeaking the rubber ducky as she spoke.

You were overjoyed as Gemma kept saying her first word, the feeling of relief washing through you. You couldn't wait for your husband to call later so that you could tell him that your daughter finally said her first word. Gemma dunked her rubber ducky under the water before letting it go, laughing when it popped back up. Now that she had said her first word, you knew that it wouldn't be very long before she started learning how to say more easy words.

~ Trigel ~

Since Veldar had been trying to say his first word as of late, you and Trigel had been trying to encourage him by offering him different easy words to say. Neither of you were having much luck, so you both decided to take a break. During one evening while you and Trigel were watching tv in the living room, Astrid was sitting on the floor with Veldar, looking at a picture book with him. The picture book was one that you found at the Earth store at the Space Mall and had Earth animals in it.

"This is a kitty, it says 'meow'." Astrid said as she pointed to a picture of a cat, meowing like a cat.

Veldar looked at the picture with interest and babbled, touching the cat on the page for a moment. You and Trigel thought it was cute how Astrid was 'reading' to Veldar. After a few months, she had gotten used to being a big sister and came to enjoy spending time with her little brother.

"This is a doggy, it says 'woof woof'." Astrid said after turning the page, pointing to a picture of a dog.

"D-d-d-do-d-dog-doggo." Veldar mumbled at first, sounding out the word before actually saying it.

You and Trigel heard Veldar say his first word and turned the tv volume down a little, promptly getting up off of the couch and kneeling down next to him and Astrid. Astrid knew that her baby brother just said his very first word, a proud smile spreading across her face.

"Mama, mommy, I got Veldar to say his first word." Astrid happily exclaimed, looking up at you and Trigel.

"Yes, we heard." Trigel said, proud of Astrid for getting Veldar to say his first word.

"You did so good, Veldar. You too, Astrid." You agreed, smiling at both of your children.

Astrid sat up, a proud smile adorning her face as her eyes shining brightly. Trigel thought for a moment before looking at you; Veldar said doggo instead of doggy or doggy, a common term for dogs that Humans often used, meaning that he must have somehow heard it from you at some point. You looked at your wife and smiled an awkward smile, already knowing what she was thinking. After a few moments, you both went back to the couch and sat down, turning the volume back up to where it was earlier while Astrid went back to reading to Veldar.
