When your baby can't fall asleep

~ Zarkon ~

When it was bedtime for Gatrea you were busy with something, so Zarkon offered to put her to bed. After you fed her Zarkon changed her diaper and put her in the fluffy light purple pajamas you got for her. Gatrea noticed that you weren't in the nursery, so she began crying loudly. Her crying startled Zarkon and he wasn't sure how to calm her down.

"Shhh, please don't cry. Please don't cry!" Zarkon said in a hushed tone, gently rocking and bouncing her in a calming way.

Instead of calming down, Gatrea cried louder. She wanted you to put her to bed, not her father. Zarkon was really panicking since he didn't know what was wrong. Thankfully, you came to the rescue.

"What's wrong?" You asked in a panicked tone, running into the nursery.

"I don't know. Gatrea started crying loudly when I tried to put her to bed." Zarkon said, holding Gatrea out to you.

You walked over to Zarkon and took Gatrea from him. Tears streamed down her chubby purple cheeks. You held your daughter close and wiped her face off with one of your sleeves. Gatrea sniffled as she settled down, happy that you were holding her.

"How?" Zarkon quietly questioned, watching in awe as he watched you get Gatrea to sleep.

"She just needed a mother's touch." You told him in a quiet tone.

Zarkon wondered why Gatrea didn't seem to like him. Perhaps it was because he didn't spend as much time with her as you did. You had Gatrea sleeping in no time, so you laid her in her crib before following him out of the nursery, turning the light off. The two of you went to your bedroom so that you both could cuddle and watch something on your holopad.

~ Alfor ~

It was supposed to be nap time for Lotarius, but for some reason he didn't want to fall asleep. You had already fed him while Alfor changed him, but still he wasn't sleepy. Each time either of you tried putting him into his crib Lotarius would sit up and babble happily as though it was playtime.

"Please Lotarius, you must take a nap." Alfor reasoned with his son, but only getting laughter in return.

"Come on, Lotarius, please just sleep." You told your son, causing him to look up at you and stop laughing.

Lotarius wasn't very sleepy, but he knew that it was nap time. You and Alfor were surprised when he laid down and grabbed his favorite yalmor, hugging it against his chest before falling asleep.

"Is he..?" Alfor quietly asked you curiously, hoping that Lotarius had fallen asleep.

"I think so. Come on, let's go rest before he wakes up." You whispered before turning around and tip-toeing your way to the nursery door.

Alfor took one last look at Lotarius before following you, turning off the light on his way out. The older Lotarius got the harder it was to get him to take naps. You decided that it was time to start limiting his naps during the day so that he would go to sleep easier. However, now that your son was asleep, you and Alfor were finally able to have some alone time to yourselves without any distractions.

~ Blaytz ~

One evening while you were trying to put Iris to bed she wasn't having it and started getting fussy. You had already fed, bathed, changed and put Iris in her pajamas, but every time you put her in her crib she would whine and cry out in displeasure. When you didn't come to cuddle yet Blaytz came to see what was going on.

"Is evening going okay in here?" Blaytz asked as he walked over to where you were standing.

"I can't get Iris to sleep. I think that she still has too much energy." You told your husband while still holding your daughter.

"Let me see her." Blaytz said softly, holding his arms out.

You handed Iris over to Blaytz, hoping that he could get her to fall asleep. You just wanted to spend a little alone time with your husband. Iris sniffled a little as she looked up at her father as he held her. You just stood there as Blaytz started singing what sounded like a Nalquodian lullaby. It wasn’t often that Blaytz sang, but during the rare occasions that he did his voice was as smooth as silk.

Iris yawned and her eyes closed as her father sang to her. Right as Blaytz finished singing he put Iris in her crib, tucking her in. The two of you tiptoed out of the nursery, turning the light off on the way out. Once you both were in bed you were finally able to relax.

"Thank you for getting her to sleep." You sighed, resting your head against your husband's chest as you both laid in bed, the bedroom lights dimmed.

"You're welcome, cutie. It was a song that my parents sang to me when I was little." Blaytz said as he wrapped his arms around your body.

"It was beautiful." You commented, smiling as you rolled over so that you could lay on top of him, front to front.

Blaytz smiled as he leaned forwards a little, slowly closing his eyes. You closed your own eyes, leaning forwards and pressing your lips against his. After such a long day you were more than happy to just relax in bed with your incredibly handsome and charming husband. Blaytz was happy that he finally got to spend a little one on one time with you without having to worry about being interrupted.

~ Gyrgan ~

While Gyrgan was trying to put Adu down for his nap Adu's bottom lip would start trembling and he would whine. Normally you would put Adu down for his nap, but since you were in the bathroom Gyrgan had to try. But so far, he was failing.

"Come on Adu, don't you want to take a nice nap?" Gyrgan asked Adu curiously, once again attempting to put him in his crib.

Adu gripped onto his father's shirt and screamed, not wanting to take a nap. Gyrgan couldn't figure out what was going on, but he held Adu close to his chest while lightly bouncing him. You had just gotten out of the bathroom when you heard Adu scream.

"What's going on?" You questioned as you rushed into the nursery, seeing Gyrgan holding Adu.

"I've been trying to get Adu to take his nap, but he doesn't want to. He screamed when I tried putting him in his crib." Gyrgan explained as he turned to face you, still calmly rocking and bouncing Adu.

"Does he have his favorite plushie?" You asked Gyrgan, not seeing the yellow lion plushie you gave him in the crib, turning around so that you could look around the room.

"I didn't notice that it wasn't in his crib." Gyrgan said in realization.

You scanned the nursery, looking for the missing yellow lion plushie. You found it sitting on the floor along with some other toys, so you went to go get it. Adu stopped fussing when he saw you holding his favorite plushie.

"Look Adu, it's your favorite plushie." You said as you put the plushie in the crib.

Gyrgan slowly lowered Adu into the crib, carefully laying his son onto his back. Adu didn't fuss or scream this time, he only yawned and wrapped his little arms around his plushie before falling asleep. You and Gyrgan quietly left the nursery, turning the already dim light off. Gyrgan was happy that you were able to get Adu to finally take his nap; having a cranky baby was never fun.

~ Trigel ~

While you were trying to get Astrid to fall asleep for the night you were having a problem actually getting her to fall asleep. She should have been tired since you were limiting her naps, but for some reason she didn't want to go to bed. You turned to face Trigel when you heard her enter the nursery, still holding Astrid.

"Is she giving you trouble?" Trigel asked as she crossed the nursery so that could stand next to you.

"Yeah. I know that I should know how to get her to fall asleep, especially since I have most of the time, but sometimes she just doesn't want to fall asleep." You told your wife, feeling tired.

Trigel held her arms out, so you handed Astrid to her. You watched in awe as Trigel recited some sort of poem in Dalterian; you were still learning Dalterion, so you didn't know exactly what the poem was about. Astrid let out a yawn and closed her eyes as Trigel spoke to her. Once she was asleep, Trigel tucked her in.

"What was the poem about?" You quietly asked Trigel once you both were out in the hallway.

"It was about sleeping and the starry night sky." Trigel replied, turning the nursery light off.

You smiled, thanking Trigel as the two of you walked to your bedroom together. You weren't exactly ready to fall asleep yet, but you did want to rest. Once the two of you were in bed together you and Trigel decided to cuddle and watch your favorite series that you liked to watch together. After a long day Trigel was happy to finally get some much needed alone time with you.
