Passing something down to your oldest child
~ Zarkon ~
Gatrea recently turned nine years old and was very mature for her age, so Zarkon decided that it was time to pass something very important down to her; a bracelet that had been his mother's when she was nine years old. The bracelet had been kept in an old trunk that was stored in a storage room where it would be safe. Zarkon remembered that he found the trunk again a few years prior to meeting you, and he recently remembered the bracelet. So, one day he went to the storage room and got the bracelet out of the old trunk. Before giving it to Gatrea, Zarkon showed the dark purple and silver metal bracelet to you and told you about it.
His mother was going to pass it down to her oldest daughter, but Zarkon had been an only child, so she ended up packing the bracelet away in the trunk along with a few other things that were hers. Zarkon brought the trunk with him after becoming Emperor, but he packed it away somewhere safe. You liked the idea of passing the bracelet down to his and your oldest daughter, so that's exactly what the two of you were going to do that evening. After putting Zara, Zia, Krella and Kuhuv to bed, you and Zarkon told Gatrea that you both needed to talk to her in the living room. Gatrea was a little confused, but she agreed.
"What do you and papa want to talk to me about?" Gatrea asked you with uncertainty as she sat in between you and her father.
"Your father has something very important to give you." You answered in a soft tone, smiling at your oldest daughter.
Gatrea relaxed a little, thankful that she didn't do something without realizing it. She turned her attention to her father, tilting her head slightly to the right and flicking her ears slightly. She was curious now; whatever it was that he was going to give her, it must've been very important.
"Gatrea, you're very mature for your age, your mother and I are very proud of you for being so responsible. Now that you're old enough, I wanted to give this to you. This bracelet was my mother's when she was about your age; she was going to pass it down, but I was her only child. If she was alive today, I'm sure that she would have wanted you to have it." Zarkon told Gatrea as he held out the bracelet out in the palm of his right hand, smiling softly at her.
"It's beautiful! Thank you, papa. Are you sure that you want me to have it?" Gatrea gasped, surprised that her father was giving her something so important.
"Yes, I'm sure." Zarkon reassured her, still holding his hand out and offering her the small piece of jewelry.
Gatrea took the bracelet and examined it, feeling the slightly warm metal against her fingertips. It was thin and mostly dark purple with a few silver highlights. She slid it over her hand and onto her wrist, smiling as she looked down at it. You smiled, thinking that the bracelet looked beautiful on your oldest daughter. Gatrea couldn't believe that such a beautiful piece of jewelry was passed down to her; it was something that she would cherish for the rest of her life.

~ Alfor ~
For the past three generations in Alfor's family, an old compass was passed down to the oldest boy when it was decided that he was mature enough. Shortly after Lotarius turned eight years old, Alfor decided that it was finally time to pass the compass down to him. Lotarius was a smart boy who was responsible for his age, so Alfor knew that the compass would be in good hands. Alfor had already shown you the precious item and told you how it had been passed down to him when he was a boy, before you got pregnant. You agreed with your husband that Lotarius was ready to have the compass passed down to him.
After dinner and dessert one evening, Alfor took Lotarius out to the Juniberri fields. You, Fallara and Alazu stayed behind at the Castle so that you could have a girls' night in with your daughters. It wasn't that Alfor didn't want you and your two daughters to go with him and Lotarius, but Fallara and Alazu really wanted to spend time alone with you. So, Alfor took Lotarius to a place in the Juniberri fields where they could watch the sunset.
"Father, was there something you needed to tell me?" Lotarius queried as he sat on a large rock next to his father.
"Yes, there is. But I also have something very important to give you." Alfor told Lotarius, reaching into one of his pockets and feeling the compass.
"What is it?" Lotarius asked with excitement, but not too much.
"It's my compass." Alfor answered, pulling the compass out of his pocket and holding it in the palm of his right hand.
Lotarius looked at the old looking compass in confusion; he had seen his father use it before, but he didn’t know why he brought it with them; they weren't even very far from the Castle. He looked up at his father who nodded in confirmation, and picked it up. Lotarius held the compass with the utmost care, not wanting to accidentally drop it.
"This compass has been in our family for the past three generations. I believe that it's time for me to pass it down to you, just as my father passed it down to me when I was about your age. I know that you're more than capable of taking good care of it." Alfor told Lotarius in a gentle tone, smiling down at his and your son.
"Woah, I didn't know that. Thank you, father. I promise to always take care of it." Lotarius promised his father, looking at the compass as he held it in his hands.
"I know you will." Alfor said, his tone fond as he smiled down at his and your oldest child.
Lotarius made sure to close one of his fists around the compass before hugging his father, making sure not to hold it too tightly. The compass meant a lot to his father, and now that it was passed down to him, and it meant a lot to him. Alfor hugged his son before he began to tell him how the compass was passed down to him when he was a boy. Lotarius loved hearing stories about his grandparents, so he listened intently as his father spoke. Just before the sun went down, Alfor and Lotarius returned to the Castle so that they too could get ready for bed, just as you, Fallara and Alazu already had.

~ Blaytz ~
For Iris' tenth birthday, Blaytz had an extra special gift to give her. Since he was the first of his siblings to get married and have children, it was decided that he would give his oldest daughter a necklace that was once his mother's. The necklace had been in Urlu's possession, but it was finally time to pass it down to the next generation. Urlu had given the necklace to Blaytz a week prior to Iris' birthday since she wouldn't be able to attend the party due to being off-world to visit one of her friends on Altea. The party had been everything Iris wanted and went well, but Blaytz was waiting for the right moment to give her the necklace.
Blaytz told you all about the necklace when he showed it to you the day Urlu visited the previous week; both of them told you how the necklace had been passed down to the oldest daughter for the past four generations, and now it was time to pass it down again. The necklace was made up of a thin silver chain and had a beautiful light blue crystal attached to it. So, after putting Blaze, Lyra, Brisa, Islu and Pavo to bed, you, Blaytz and Iris were sitting on one of the couches in the living room.
"Here’s your last gift for your birthday, Iris. This one is extra special." Blaytz told his and your oldest daughter as he gave her a small, flat, blue and gold rectangular box that was wrapped with a silk red ribbon.
"What is it?" Iris asked with excitement as she took the box, holding it carefully.
"You're going to have to open it to find out." You said encouragingly, smiling at her.
Iris took a hold of the end of the ribbon with two of her fingers and gently tugged on it, slowly untying the bow. She placed the ribbon down on the coffee table before taking the lid of the box off, her eyes widening and a nearly silent gasp escaping past her lips; inside the box was a beautiful necklace with a light blue crystal attached to it. She carefully lifted the necklace out of the box and held it in front of her face, her eyes practically shining in awe. You and Blaytz looked at each other for a moment, knowing that Iris loved the gift.
"It's so beautiful. Thank you both so much!" Iris exclaimed as she hugged you before proceeding to hug her father.
"That necklace has been in my family for four generations; passed down to the oldest girl of each generation on her tenth birthday. Since I'm the first of my siblings to have children, and you're the oldest girl, the necklace gets passed down to you." Blaytz told Iris, a fond smile on his face.
"I- Thank you so much, daddy. I promise to take good care of it." Iris said as she hugged her father again, still carefully holding the necklace.
"I know, little cutie. Your mother and I know you will." Blaytz responded, hugging his daughter.
You smiled, knowing that Iris was going to take very good care of the necklace. She was surprisingly responsible for her age, which made you and Blaytz proud of her. After Iris stopped hugging her father, she handed you the necklace and you helped her put it on. Iris smiled as she looked down at the necklace, thinking that it was the most beautiful and precious gift she had ever been given. As far as birthdays went, Iris' tenth was the best.

~ Gyrgan ~
The older Adu got, the more adventurous he became. Gyrgan often said that he was becoming brave enough to become a Paladin of Voltron. When Gyrgan was a child, he had a wooden toy sword that he often liked playing with when he played with one of his best friends. He had kept the toy sword, and now he was ready to pass it on to Adu. Since Adu was seven years old, he was still playing with toys.
Gyrgan had to find the toy sword, which was packed away in a room that was being used as a storage room. When he found it, he showed it to you first and told you about some of his memories with it. You knew that Adu would love it and agreed that he should give it to his and your oldest son. Since Adu was the oldest, he was allowed to stay up later than Gemma and Gavin were. So, one evening while Adu was doing his homework in the living room and you were reading a book on the couch, Gyrgan decided that it was the perfect opportunity to give the toy to Adu.
"Adu, I have something for you." Gyrgan quietly announced when he knelt down next to his and your oldest son, keeping the toy sword out of sight.
"What is it?" Adu queried, putting his pencil down before looking at his father.
"It's a wooden toy sword that I played with when I was a boy. I want to pass it down to you." Gyrgan said as he showed the wooden toy to his son.
Adu's eyes practically shone as he looked at the toy that his father was holding up; it was perfect. He took it out of his father’s hands and held it by the handle, running a finger down the mostly smooth wooden blade and feeling the dents along its length. Gyrgan smiled, noticing how Adu's face seemed to light up as he held the toy.
"I love it. Thank you, dad. I can't wait to play with it tomorrow." Adu said with excitement, thanking his father for such a treasured toy; if his father once played with it, it was important to him.
"You're welcome, son; I'm glad that you like it." Gyrgan responded with happiness, his short ears wiggling a little.
Adu placed the toy sword down next to his homework and hugged his father, a huge smile on his face. Gyrgan lightly hugged his son, overjoyed that he liked the toy and knowing that he would love playing with it. You looked up from your book, smiling as you watched Gyrgan give the toy sword to Adu. After a moment, Gyrgan and Adu let go of each other so that Adu could finish his homework and Gyrgan could join you on the couch.

~ Trigel ~
Among the things you brought from your home on Earth was a beautiful snow globe, something that you cherished. Ever since Astrid first saw your snow globe when you showed it to her, she was entranced by it. At the time you first showed it to her, she had been five years old. A few years had passed since then and now she was turning nine. She was always very gentle while holding something breakable and she was responsible for her age, so for her ninth birthday, you decided to pass your beloved snow globe down to your daughter, knowing that it would be in good hands.
Trigel supported your decision to pass your snow globe down to Astrid. So, while Veldar and Taj were taking their afternoon naps, you and Trigel were sitting in the living room with the birthday girl. Astrid was curious as to what was in the carefully wrapped present that you were holding, but she was patient while waiting for you to give it to her.
"Okay Astrid, be very careful with this present; it's fragile." You told Astrid when you gave her the wrapped box, gently warning her that the gift was very delicate.
"Don't worry, I will." Astrid responded when she took the gift, making sure to hold the box while placing it on her lap.
You and Trigel smiled as you both watched your daughter carefully unwrap the box and open it. Astrid was careful as she opened the box, barely able to contain her excitement. When she opened the box, her eyes widened and she gasped. Inside of the box was your snow globe from Earth.
"This is your snow globe, mama. Are you sure that you want me to have it?" Astrid questioned in a shocked tone as she took the snow globe out of the box, looking at you and making eye contact.
"Yes, I'm sure. I know how much you love it. I'm passing it down to you now." You answered in a soft yet proud tone.
"Thank you so much, mama." Astrid said in a grateful tone, putting the box and the snow globe on the coffee table before hugging you.
"You're welcome. I know that you'll take good care of it." You told your daughter, wrapping your arms around her.
Trigel smiled as she watched her two favorite girls hug, deciding to join in. She was a little sad that her and your oldest child was growing up so quickly, but also proud of how much she was growing up. Astrid couldn't believe that you passed your snow globe down to her; she was going to always take the best care of it. She even had the perfect place to put it; on the top of the bookshelf in her bedroom where it would be safe.
