Ch. 2: Whose fault is it?

Ash sat on the floor of his small hotel room watching TV and eating noodles from the cup when his phone started ringing on the bed. Even though he didn't really feel like getting up, he did get up to see who was calling him.

He groaned when he saw Bridget's name. "What does this woman want now?"

He decided to ignore it and go back on his spot on the floor and his noodles. He turned the volume of the TV up.

The phone wouldn't stop ringing.

"Does she have something better to do than bother the hell out of me?"

It stopped but quickly started ringing again.

"Probably not." Ash sighed heavily. He got up again and went to take a seat on the bed, grabbing his phone and answering the call.

"Now what?"

What do you mean now what? Reese told me!

"Told you what?"

That you and Misty broke up a year ago!

Ash closed his eyes for a moment. So Misty ended up telling everyone, in the end. Not bad. He couldn't care less. He had other stuff to take care of; more important than these gossip talks between his sisters and Misty.

"So?"

What do you mean so?

"I'm really busy. I'll call later."

No, you are not! Where are you now? Why did you break up with Misty? What happened? Whose fault is it?

"I really don't have time for this. I'm writing."

What are you talking about? You haven't published in almost a year. You don't only write when I call you, do you?

The conversation was making Ash really mad. "Bridget!"

Tell me what happened and I'll never call you again.

"I couldn't date someone who isn't supportive of me, okay? Now go tell everyone else about it."

Supportive of you going around on a bike, drinking and writing? Not sleeping? Ruining your health for a book or two?

"I don't want to have this conversation with you because you aren't any different from Misty."

Are you with a woman right now?

Ash slapped his forehead.

Fine, Ash. We got it. You like being a writer; you like all the attention and the freedom. But you have to remember that Reese was also a writer, and she could get support from Seth and do as she likes even if she's married. Marriage didn't stand on her way.

"That's why she's still writing..."

She has two children to look after, that's all! It was her choice. No one forced her to quit.

"Misty doesn't want me to write at all."

She just wants to be reassured. You can write and work with dad, no?

"I have to hang up."

Ash, we just want the best for you. Mom knows you are in safe hands when you're with Misty.

"I'm not a baby. What the hell?"

I know you're not, but we know Misty is a reliable woman. She always was. Mom and dad trust her. We know she loves you for you.

"Are you done?"

We thought we wouldn't tell mom and dad about the breakup just in case you decide to sort things out in the next few... months?

"Bye."

Call me if you want to pick up a ring!

"Stop annoying me." Ash sighed and ended the call. He glanced over at the laptop on the kitchen counter. The Word document was blank.

Ash hasn't been able to write even since he left Misty.

"What's happening to me..." Ash rubbed his face with his hands. Being unable to write was really frustrating. If he's not writing, what is he going to do? His life revolved around writing (and eating). Writing (and eating) was everything for him. Getting published or not didn't matter to him, although he did get money from his three first books which were best sellers; he just wanted to write (and eat).

Well, yeah; writing and eating Misty's food were in the same... level.

With Misty trying to make him an eventual stereotypical husband, he snapped. He said harsh things. He called her clingy, typical, and narrow-minded. She looked hurt.

Misty wasn't there the next morning, and her side of the closet was empty. Ash couldn't stay in that apartment. He collected his things and left, going from a hotel room to another; city to another...

He was currently in a hotel room in Goldenrod city, not even sure what he was doing here.

"What I'm doing with my life..." Ash sighed. He bent down to grab the noodles cup and ate from it.

"It tastes horrible. They're not like the noodles Misty makes." Honestly, none of the food he's been eating tastes like the food Misty makes, especially the chocolate cakes. He's tried several chocolate cakes and they are not like the one Misty makes.

"She makes them with almonds..." Ash sighed. He walked over to the kitchen counter and put the noodles cup down "And sometimes hazelnuts..." He closed the lip of his laptop and sat on the stool.

"Is this really the end?" Ash looked down at his laptop. "The end... last book..."

Was marriage not bad as an idea? What's marriage going to change?

"The last love..."

He loved Misty. Ash loved Misty and always will. He can never ever imagine himself with another woman.

"Misty wants to be reassured..."

Ash closed his eyes. His love is Misty. She is his life. She loves him and he loves her.

"Paired up for a project, then for love, then for life..."

He opened his eyes, beaming.

"Found it!"
