Ch. 8: Until further notice
Ash walked in the amphitheater through the top back door. He slowly took a seat beside Serena and let a heavy sigh.
"Oh, good morning." Serena shoved her bag away. "I thought you were skipping."
"Can't skip this course." Mrs. Klen's courses were certainly not to skip. She was the one who got him in this major. He just can't skip her classes.
"You look a bit tired." Serena cocked her head.
"It's because I barely slept last night." Ash leaned back and sighed. "My grandmother came yesterday. She was cooking and I was eating. She made me French fried on two in the morning."
"Do you ever get enough of eating?"
"It's hard not to eat."
"You guys all speak in the same manner." Serena shook her head in disappointment. "God help Misty with you."
"I'm serious! I just won't feel okay if I don't eat delicious food. Plus, eating is pleasing."
Serena rolled her eyes. "The same arguments."
"Really?" Ash pulled close to Serena. "Your boyfriend tells you that too?"
"Shut up." Serena blushed. She pulled away. "Did Gary tell you?"
"Huh?"
Serena looked at her friend. "Didn't he?"
"About what?" Ash shook his head. "We barely talked yesterday. He spent the day with Leaf."
"Oh, right..." Serena brushed her hair behind her ear. "I was telling him about this guy I really like..."
"Ooooooooh." Ash smiled. "I didn't know you liked someone."
"Didn't you?"
"You never said anything!" Ash chuckled. "Do I know him? Does he know me? Are we friends?"
"Friends?" Serena laughed a little. "I can't picture that."
"Tell me about him."
"What should I tell you?" Serena sighed a dreamy one. "Well, he's cute..."
"Uhm..."
"Cute, cute, cute..."
"I get it. What else?"
"Just... cute!" Serena shrugged, her cheeks flashing a pink color. "Really, really cute."
"Will I ever get girls?"
Misty paced back and forth in Ash's living room. She would sit down on the couch, get up again, pace around and then sit down. Her emotions were on fire, she felt like suffocating someone and she was fuming.
The door of the apartment was slightly open when Ash arrived. "Misty?"
"Hi!" She tried to crack a smile.
"Oh, hi." Ash closed the door and walked up to his girlfriend. "Is nana gone already?"
"Yes. She said she cooked some food and left it in the fridge." Misty had actually to use translation on her phone to understand what the woman was telling her.
"Great! More food for me to eat."
"Ash, I need to talk to you about something." Misty looked serious. "And for once, it's more important than your stomach."
"Can't it wait?" Ash placed his books on the coffee table and gestured to the kitchen counter. "I'd like to make some-"
"No, it can't wait!" Misty huffed.
"Calm down, Misty." It's been ages since Ash has seen Misty mad like this. The last time she was really mad it was when he got suspended in high school. She scolded him loudly that everyone in the house heard her, and his sisters were home that one time. They were... shocked.
"Don't tell me to calm down!" Misty flailed her arms. "I don't want to calm down!"
"Misty-"
"I am tired of this Serena!" Misty finally said it. "I don't want you to be anywhere near Serena anymore!"
Ash was taken aback. "What?"
"Stay away from Serena!" Misty shouted. "It's obvious she likes you and she's even told Gary about it now so I was right about it! She liked you!"
"She said it?"
"Ash, listen to me." Misty stepped close to Ash. "I love you, okay? I fought at first to get to what we're now."
"You fought?" Ash chuckled.
"Yes, I did!" Misty snapped. "You didn't listen! You did whatever you liked! You skipped school and turned off your phone and told your mother to kick me out if I ever visit!"
"It's because you'd wake me up too early in the morning!"
"Listen, Ash." Misty gulped. "The problem now is neither what I've done nor what you've done when we were in high school."
"Maybe I was kind of dumb..." Ash cocked his head.
"The problem now is Serena." Misty nodded. "Serena isn't trying to be your friend for nothing, Ash. She likes you. She's planning something dirty and I knew she was ever since you told me she's approached you."
Ash blinked.
"It's the truth."
"Misty, please." Ash shook his head. "Serena is my friend and nothing more."
"Well, I don't want you to be her friend anymore!"
"Isn't this very high school?"
"No, it isn't! I love my boyfriend and I can't let any other girl steal him!"
"I'm not an object! I don't get stolen! What the hell?" Ash was starting to get mad. "Stop being this annoying over-jealous girlfriend, Misty! It's creepy!"
Misty kept staring at Ash. It was the first time he'd spell words like these. "I'm annoying."
"I didn't mean it."
"I'm annoying because I love you."
"I said I didn't mean it."
"Okay." Misty nodded. She grabbed her purse. Ash held her arm when she tried to walk away.
"I'm sorry."
"It's fine. Don't be sorry." Misty walked to the door. "When you get Serena out of your life, call me. I love you so I won't be going anywhere away from you."
"Misty! Come on!"
Misty got out and slammed the door shut.
Ash sighed heavily and flopped onto his couch.
"This seems easier in books!"
