Ch. 7: It's a trap
Misty took the stairs to get to the second floor, where Ash lived. She paused in front of the mirror and checked her hair, her make-up and her clothes. Cropped skinny jeans and a sleeveless top. She's braided her hair and put on Leaf's earring.
And lace black underwear.
... Leaf's idea.
She said Misty needs to attract Ash, but not with skinny jeans and make-up. She needs to get to the next level; leave the door slightly open so Ash gets in without knocking and see Misty while she's changing clothes. It should seem like an accident. Leaf said so.
Misty can't resist such idea. She's eighteen, hormonal and she wanted Ash to see how beautiful she is under her clothes.
"I'm crazy..." Misty whispered and sighed. Did she even think? She was visiting Ash to trap him. When did she get so hopeless? Why did she want to see Ash get a boner because of her so bad?
... Since the day Serena stepped in Ash's life, probably.
"¿Dónde?"
Misty turned to her left. The voice was coming from the hallway where Ash lived. Misty picked up the donuts' box from the ground and made her way through the corridor.
An old woman was standing right facing Ash's door. She was tapping her hand all over the wall.
"¿Dónde está?"
Spanish? Misty blinked. The old woman had gray hair tied up to the back in a perfect bun. She was wearing thin glasses, black pants and a beige cardigan. A few bags were around her on the floor.
"Oh, you!" She waved at Misty when she caught sight of her with the corner of her eye. "Come here!"
Misty had a feeling this woman and her were coming to see the same person (she doubted she wore lace black underwear as well, though). The redhead approached the old lady. "Can I help you with something, ma'am?"
"Oh, yes!" The icy bright blue eyes and the tan skin were the same. Yes, she knew who this person was. "Can you ring the doorbell for me?"
"Of course." Misty smiled and rang the doorbell. "Are you looking for someone?"
The old woman stepped to the back and looked at the number on the door. She looked down at a small paper she had and then at the door again. "I hope I didn't get the wrong house!"
Misty knew Ash wouldn't open the door because he's surely still sleeping. She had the keys but she didn't want this old woman to freak out at the sight of a stranger opening her grandson's apartment door.
"Who are you looking for?"
The old woman lifted up the small paper and lowered her glasses. "Ooh..." She shook her head and looked at Misty. "Busco a mi nieto."
"Huh?"
The old woman waved her hand again. "My son's son! I'm looking for my son's son."
"Your grandson?"
"Yes! Yes! That. His name is Ashton Garcia."
Misty didn't even know how to announce it. "I'm his girlfriend. This is his house."
Grandma blinked.
"Me, his girlfriend." Misty patted her chest. "Me, Novia."
"Oh, su novia."
"Si, si."
"Oooooh, his girlfriend, I see..." Grandma's eyes didn't leave Misty as she unlocked the door with the keys Ash gave her.
"Let me help you." Misty smiled weakly and got all the bags inside. "I'll take care of it. Go take a seat."
"Misty? Did you ring-" Ash saw his grandmother by the doorway. "Nana? What are you doing here?"
"Heh?"
Ash smiled. "¿Qué haces aquí?"
Then, the conversation between Ash and his grandmother was way too speedy for Misty to understand. She couldn't get a single word. She didn't even know Ash spoke Spanish so fluently.
Ash finally convinced his grandmother to take a seat. He said, "No more Spanish, Nana. Mi novia no habla español."
Grandma nodded, watching Misty who was behind the kitchen counter preparing tea. "Ok."
"She's only visiting, right?" Misty asked Ash after he joined her behind the counter. He opened the donuts box the redhead brought. "Nothing bad happened back at home?"
"Just a visit." Ash took a bite of the chocolate and vanilla donut. "She lives by herself. In her shoes I would get bored too."
"In the Orange Islands?"
"Kumquat Island. Dad tried to convince her to live with us but she said she doesn't want to leave her homeland, you know, oldies bullsh*t. Now he often has to go check on her."
"Oh my God, Ash! Kumquat Island?" Misty gasped. "It's a resort island! Of course she wouldn't leave it!"
"I like going there too. Nana makes the best ice cream cakes and she lets me eat and sleep all day long. She gives me money every day."
Misty thought it wasn't surprising; Ash was her only grandson, after all, and his family had a long history with spoiling him. "You never said your father is from Kumquat!"
"You never asked."
"I'd love to go there..." Misty spoke in a low voice. "The hot springs and the beaches..."
Ash grabbed the tea tray and looked at Misty. "If she makes comments that may sound racist about your skin, like the Garcia thing I told you about, ignore her. She's just impressed."
"Okay." Misty giggled and followed after Ash.
The two sat facing the old woman. Misty poured the tea and handed over the first cup to grandma.
"Thank you." Mrs. Ketchum took a small sip. She looked at Ash. "¿Ashton, te acostaste con ella?"
"Nana!" Ash blushed hard.
"What did she say?" Misty asked.
"Nothing." Ash grumbled.
His grandmother put her hand over her mouth. "How to say it in English..."
"It's nothing! No need to translate!" Ash got up and walked to get his grandmother's hand. "I'll show you your room. You need to get rest after the long trip."
"Oh, ok, ok." Grandma smiled at Misty and let Ash lead her to the second free room he used as guestroom.
"Was it something about my skin?" Misty asked Ash after he joined her again.
"No..." Ash cocked his head. "Well, yes."
"I'll look that up!"
Ash snatched the phone away from Misty's hand. He pulled his girlfriend close. "I didn't get my kiss after you got here."
"Your nana was around." Misty thought Ash looked cute calling his grandmother nana.
"She isn't now. Kiss me."
Misty giggled and kissed Ash on the lips. Ash put his hands on the back of Misty's neck and pulled her close even more.
They pulled away from each other slowly, their faces blushing.
"She bought you a lot of homemade food." Misty glanced over at the many plastic and glass boxes grandma has brought.
"I'll go have some of the smoked bacon. Nana makes it herself!"
Misty turned around. Ash was behind the counter eating the minced smoked bacon straight from the box and not bothering with sitting down or looking for a fork.
Grandma left the room. She made her way to the kitchen and placed another box on the counter. She patted Ash's cheek and kissed him. "Deja que tu nana cocina."
Ash grabbed another piece of the smoked bacon and walked over to Misty. "You're staying, right? Nana is cooking lunch."
Misty watched him eat the bacon. "I guess."
The redhead was caught off guard when Ash leaned over and kissed her on the lips.
"I've got two women I love very much in my house. Lucky me!" Ash smiled and made his way back to the kitchen, probably to keep eating from here and there as his grandmother cooked.
Misty turned around again, watching Ash speaking in Spanish quickly and his grandmother laughing quietly.
This old woman ruined her plans for this morning, but for some reason, Misty was glad she did.
