Chapter Seventeen
I opened my eyes and was met with a familiar face...
"(Y/n)? You okay?" She asked me, her steel gray eyes containing a worried glint.
"L-Lyra? But I thought you were dead... I mean... I saw you jump off of that cliff!" I exclaimed, tears running down my face.
She hugged me and let me cry on her shoulder whilst hugging her tightly.
"I know... I'm not alive, but not dead either. I'm somewhere in between," She explained.
"W-what do you mean?" I asked, tears streaming down my face.
"Well... My soul didn't really... Shatter... It kinda cane here... I guess, the universe didn't want me to die. I didn't know what I was doing there at first, or why I was even still semi-alive, but after about two months... I figured it out,"
"What was it...?"
"It was the need to protect everyone... When I found out that Ink and Dream were kidnapped by Error, I tried to help as much as I could, but..." Lyra trailed off, her black hair falling in front of her.
"You couldn't?"I questioned.
All I received was sobs. She clung onto my shirt as if her life depended on it. I just sat there, my hands by my sides.
"Don't cry Lyra," I said and pet her head. She just carried in crying.
"I-I'm so sorry. I'm useless. I always have been," She cried and hugged me tightly. "But... I promise I'll try my best to help you,"
"Oh Lyra... You're not useless. You've helped everyone more times than I could count!" I resoned with my best friend.
"Haha. It's funny, how much you've changed since you've met them," She said, laying down on my lap.
"I haven't changed that much, you know," I told her healf-heartedly. Shaking her head, Lyra looked up at me, her teary face creating an ache in my heart.
"You have. I can sense it. You've gotten stronger and more positive. I can also sense that you have some deeper feelings for that PJ guy. I'm glad," She smiled at me.
"You know.. If anyone has helped me, it's you," I told her shyly.
"How so?"
"Well... When you died, all of my friends helped me recover from my sadness and helped me eventually leave my room. Hell, even now I'm still recovering. But, once I had gotten most of my positivity back, I finally knew what I had to do. It was to make friends and keep them happy,"
"Really...?" I nodded. She grinned and hugged me once again.
"(Y/n)! Don't die! Please don't die!" I heard a voice say around us.
"
Fresh..."
"Y-yeah! You can't die! W-we still haven't had a chance for us t-two to hang out y-yet!"
"Alphys,"
"Your friends really care about you,"
"Yeah, I know,"
"(Y/n), please don't die. I still haven't told you that I... Love you,"
"P... J...?" I gave a weak chuckle. "I thought I told him to stay strong,"
"He really does care about you (y/n)," Lyra told me, smiling warmly.
"I know.. He always has. He was the first person to know my identity,"
I watched her stand up and walk a little further.
"I watched your fight,"
"Oh.. You did?"
"Yeah. You were amazing. I'm going to try and see why Error is so strong," She explained.
My eyes widened.
"You can do that?" I asked. She nodded and a yellow glowing flat keyboard thing appeared under her hand. "How are you gonna do that?"
"I'm typing in his code right now. I'm gonna check it for any alterations," Lyra explained. I nodded, my face blank.
"Uh.. Huh..."
"Is this too confusing for you?"
"Um no. Carry on," I told her, now understanding everything.
"So, if I find any alterations, that's what's making him so strong,"
"Alright. Tell me if you need any help," I said, making her nod.
Five minutes later, she suddenly exclaimed,
"I got it!"
"So what is it?" I asked her.
"Look for yourself. It turns out that there was an alteration in both Error AND Nightmare's code! Look here,"
I looked at the screen and saw the block of coding that enabled him to have so much power.
"Look here. At this line. It says
'Whilst True:
When touched by [Nightmare.exe]
Magic.travel(to[Error.exe])'"
(I had computing at school today and I'm doing Microbit programming and this is Python Coding so yeah. That's why it looks like this rn since I'm in year seven [I'm eleven years old])
I looked down in thought.
"So they edited themselves to make themselves stronger...? So that's why..." I trailed off.
"You know, my code still exists. I could make you stronger by adding my coding into yours and 'merging' us together for a while. It'll subside the pain, but you'll feel it later. I could do this to wake up Ink too. It's in his coding. But, I couldn't get into it. I looked at Error's coding just now and finally figured it out. He edited it so that I couldn't enter it. But, now that I've edited it, I could wake him up for you,"
Tears welled up in my eyes.
"Please. Help him wake up. And, I don't mind merging and feeling the pain later. As long as I can save them, I don't care what happens to me at this point,"
"Alright. I'll edit Ink's coding to get him to get him to wake up; give me a minute," I nodded and let her do her thing.
Once done, she went into my code and pasted her's into it.
"You ready?" Lyra asked, turning in my direction.
I nodded and walked closer.
"Give me your hands," I gave her my hands, as requested, and she pulled me closer, hugging me.
I suddenly felt heat all around us and a bright light that surrounded us made my eyes close.
"I hope you're ready, (y/n)," She said to me and I felt tears fall onto my shoulder as I felt myself fade away...
