Chapter One

As the remaining leaves fall from the bare tree as mother nature welcomes winter into its arms, I was sitting peacefully against the tree with my eyes closed. Every year at the exact same time I always perch myself up against this one tree. I can't explain why though. I tend to travel everywhere but I always came to find myself drawn to this place, to this tree. But why? Why did it feel special. It looked exactly like every other tree around me but it felt familiar, it made me feel more alive and it made me feel like what i did when i was human. It made me think of the once beautiful and enchanting tree that stood proudly in the village I lived in when I was human. But it's strange that this ordinary looking tree had that effect on me.

Oh yeah if haven't already guessed I'm a vampire. I am actually 585 years old to be precise. My stomach began to growl, the fact that I hadn't had blood in days was probably the issue and I was beginning to feel the hunger of the beast within me. To everyone I just looked like this ordinary eighteen year old girl that kept to herself. I always feel the need to stay away from everyone, I don't ever get close to anyone because whats the point, anyone who gets close to me just dies from either aging or my mistakes. And I would never take someones life away to make them another one of my kind. I've always hated what I was but I tried to survive as best I could because i made a promise to my father that my mother and little sister, and his death wouldn't have been in vain.

All vampires have stories of how they became bloodthirsty creatures. Mine goes way back to the year of 1430 and it was my eighteenth birthday. I was still living with my parents and my little sister who was just a couple years younger than me and still very naive. I remember like it was yesterday, I remember exploring the beautiful outdoors, hunting for food for that nights supper. Even when I was in a beautiful gown I was still very intimidating some might say with my bow and arrow. And the people from my village used to watch me in awe as I was hunting.

That night it had gotten dark and I guessed I must have fallen asleep in the woods after my hunting. The moon was a wraith-silver disc hanging in the lonely sky. Lasers of moonlight, as bright as diamond-flame, reflected against the steady flow of water. I trailed my fingers against the coldness of the water and then I stood up and swept the front of my skirt from any of the dirt from the ground. The alluring scent of fresh blossoming flowers were eye-catching and I simply couldn't resist picking them for mother as she always loved flowers.

By the time I arrived back into the village, I caught my gaze on a bloody massacre. People dead. The people I once recently had saw smiling were now drowning in their own blood. Panic grew inside of me as I picked up my feet and ran as fast as i could to my home. The home I once thought to be happy and carefree was now destroyed by the sight of my mother and little sisters body lying in the floor. I fell to the floor, uncontrollable tears and anger rushed out of me. I couldn't help but notice a man about in his 20s sitting comfortable at the dining table with a sadistic and evil grin. Beside him, my father was struggling to keep still as two other men held both his arms. Fear was spread across my father's face as he watched me.

The man rose from his seat and started coming closer to me. I suddenly froze. I feared for my father's life. I feared for my life. What did he want. Why did he do this. As he stood a few steps away from me he stuck out his arm for me to shake his hand. When I refused to shake his hand, he grabbed my hand with so much force that I began to squeal in pain.

"You should obey me if you know what's good for you, girl," He growled with a piercing gaze. His stare was murderous and unforgiving. Empty and frozen. His stare seemed to reach down to my soul, his eyes are what prepared people for their death. Told them it was coming in a way words could not. I held my breath as he started trailing his fingers up my arm.

"Who are you?" I asked as i pushed his hand away and backed away from the murderous fiend that he was. I was scared for my life but I didn't want his disgusting hands on me.

"Oh where are my manners," He chuckled, "I'm Damian Nicholi but that isn't the question you should be asking me, the question is what am I?" He smiled and I was taken aback by the long, sharp, fangs. Razor sharp, canine like. Looked even more dangerously enticing, daring even. He laughed at my reaction as if i wasn't already frightened enough by his presence. What kind of creature was he. He definatley wasn't human.

"Wh...what are you?" I stuttered backing more and more away from the monster.

"First, tell me your name, girl?" He asked.

I stood there silently whimpering and cowering in fear. Why should i give this devilish creature my name when he's just murdered my mother and little sister. He started coming closer. Everything was telling me to. Run. Run. Run. But I couldn't leave my father. I won't.

Before I could even react I tumbled to the floor. It happened so fast. My cheek was throbbing with pain. The beast who presented himself as Damian drew his fingers across my face and reached my chin and lifted it so my trembling tearful eyes faced his domineering and piercing blood shot ones.

"Your name?" He demanded.

I closed my eyes expecting that this was just some sort of nightmare that I could wake up from. Then again another hit to the side of my face left me in agony.

"Please, leave her alone, hers names Iyzebel, okay now leave her alone," My father shouted furiously at Damian.

"Please leave us," My father begged.

"I will leave as soon as I have what is mine," Damian gazed at me smiling and showing his monstrous teeth again. I didn't know what to do in this situation.

"You're coming with us, girl," He announced.

My fists were clenched beside me. I wanted to take action but I didn't want to do anything stupid. There's no way I'd go with that thing. Whatever he was. "I'm not going anywhere with you!" I sneered as I barely could hold myself up as my knees were trembling with fear.

"Is that a fact? Brave girl," He laughed menacingly, then he walked over to my father.

"Whatever happens next, just run don't look back, promise me, I already watched one daughter get killed in front of me don't let me..." He choked. Red seeped from his torso; the gash was jagged and deep. There was nothing I could do.

I promise.

I began to run out the door as fast as I could, I didn't want to. I didn't want to survive. I don't think I will I've never been away from my family. Now their gone and I have no one. I'm alone.

I ran into the woods but I didn't know where I was running to. More tears were welling in my eyes and I couldn't stop them from trickling down my face. I stopped but they were getting closer and I couldn't breathe. I started running again and then when I looked back to see the enemy coming close I ran into Damian. His eyes looked down at me hungrily.

"Please," I started to beg for my life. "Don't kill me."

His eyes began to swirl into darkness. "It's your destiny."

What the hell does that mean? It's my destiny. What is? I wanted to ask him what he meant but when I tried to open my mouth to talk, cries of anguish came out instead as the creature in front of me used his abnormally long razor monstrous teeth and sank them into my neck hungrily like an animal of some sort. What was happening. The pain began to slightly dissipate and I began to feel woozy and lightheaded. Then I was forced some sort of liquid down my throat, it tasted thick and sweet. As I felt my consciousness ebbing away, and my thoughts, as clear and concise as they were mere moments ago, were coming to an end. I had not prepared for such a weakness. At once, I was struck with incoherence, an inconsistency to my thoughts, as my knees became wobbly, I began to fall to the ground; for I had already decided to give myself away to my pursuer, to exhaustion, to be dead to the world and let the darkness take me...
