Chapter 7

Oliver - 2p England

"We haven't heard anything from them for days" Yao leaned back on the park bench and sighed.

"It's like they've... almost lost interest in a way" Kiku said, glancing at him and then turning back to examining the floor. "The last attack was months ago. For weeks, nothing."

"Hmm... hey" Yao jerked forwards, making him jump. "Are you still set on your idea of growing stronger and defeating the western nations?"

"That was a change in the subject" Kiku muttered, still staring at the gravel beneath the bench. "But... I guess not. They're not as bad as I originally thought and it doesn't look like they're going to attack at all. I mean... no one even got involved in Manchuria."

"Yeah, I'm not forgiving you for that, ever."

"That made me realise that they don't really care about Asia. We're safe where we are" Kiku sighed. "If they ever make any move that could indicate that they are interested in attacking lots of countries, they'll go for those in Europe first."

Yao rolled his eyes. "You're still as serious as ever. Why don't we get a drink? Find a café somewhere and get some tea?"

Kiku nodded and stood up to start walking. "Why do you ask?"

"I'm just curious" Yao caught up with him. "Do you have the same attitude towards these... the 2ps as you did the European countries."

"No" Kiku shook his head as they left the park. "No. With the European countries, I wasn't sure about them and was making assumptions due to their past behaviour, but the 2ps... I know that they're... well... I just feel more strongly about defeating them than I did about the European countries."

They found a café and Yao stopped him just across the road from it. "Don't look now, he's not there now but... there's one of them there I'm sure of it... now. Look now."

Carefully, Kiku glanced out of the corner of his eye towards the café. There was a reasonably normal man serving up large cupcakes outside. He could've been a waiter if he wasn't dressed so brightly in a pink sweater.

"What do you think? Is he one of them?"

"Definitely" Kiku put his hand on his sheath. "Most definitely."

"Don't" Yao hissed, making him remove his hand. "It'll draw suspicion. It's best if he doesn't know that we know just yet. Act casual... but not too casual." He started walking across the road, sitting down at one of the tables and picked up a menu. Kiku followed and sat down opposite. The waiter in the pink sweater came over with a small notebook.

"Hello, can I get you anything?" he asked, grinning with eyes of a cold, blue colour. "We have a special offer today on cupcakes. Special cupcakes."

Yao hesitated. "Okay then." He nodded and left. "Any ideas yet?"

Kiku nodded. "Did you see his eyebrows?"

Yao frowned. "No, I was busy trying to look casual. Staring isn't good for you."

"It's Arthur" Kiku said. "The eyebrows gave it all away. They're too big to function."

"Yeah, that'll be it" Yao sighed and glanced over the top of the menu, watching the door. "Do you think he's as violent as the others or not?"

"Of course he is" Kiku followed his eyes to the door as Oliver came out carrying two cupcakes on plates. "François said he wasn't violent and look how he turned out."

"I guess" Yao smiled as he came over and put the plates down in front of them.

"Enjoy" Oliver grinned and turned to leave.

"Have you heard about all these attacks sir?" Kiku said.

Oliver froze and turned back, slowly. "Of course I have, they're all over the news, everywhere. I often wonder who could honestly do things like that. Anyway, if you don't mind, I have duties."

"None here 2p" Yao peered at him over the top of the menu. "You act well but no one has eyebrows that stupid."

Someone at a table nearby started coughing. Oliver smiled, a huge, really creepy smile that spread across his face. He saluted and walked back inside as the coughing person spurted blood all over the table cloth and slumped. Now people everywhere were starting to choke, dropping like flies.

"Don't eat it" Yao muttered.

"I know. It's poison" Kiku carefully slid his off the table and under the cloth. "Let's go."

They headed inside, out of the light and into the dark. Yao grabbed a ladle from the counter and Kiku drew his katana. Oliver was collecting another cake from a gap in the wall.

"My dear countries, what brings you here" he said, turning and grinning the creepy grin. When they didn't say anything, he laughed. "I don't believe in physical violence. I couldn't help but overhear your conversation before."

"How..." Kiku started.

"Oh, I have good ears" he smothered his laugh into a chuckle and then went silent. "I'm not like any of those other bastards you see. They'll say that too but believe me, they all go for physical violence. I'm special though, I don't. Poison you see. That's the best way to kill someone. And thank you for letting our psychopath return our messenger. Very nice of you there" he glanced behind them and covered one of his eyes with his hand. "Gah, will you look at the time, I really should go" he turned to leave but Yao put out his ladle.

Kiku stepped behind him, katana pointed forwards.

Oliver sighed and glanced down at the cake on his plate. He chucked it at Yao who put up his arms to block it, the ladle still in one of his hands. Oliver sipped past and towards the back door where the cake was slowly slipping down the wood.

"Come on" Kiku said. "We can't loose him."

They burst out of the door into a narrow and dark alley. Bins lined either side on the thin gap and there was no one in sight. Yao sighed and shook his head. "There's no point. He's gone." Kiku nodded and went back inside, followed by Yao

Behind one of the bins, Oliver laughed. "So, they really are as pathetic as Luciano said" he put his plate down and walked out of the alley. "Getting rid of them will be easer than we thought."
