Chapter 57
So... this was on dead time... to the new Sunday chapter release... and then my laptop decided to change all the punctuation to 'a@@^$'... which was fun!!! T-T
Im Yong Soo felt proud of himself. He'd been counting in his head how many people he'd found, told to get out, and had seen on their way since he'd split from Kyung Soo and Leon, and at the present, the number was getting close to ten. In the grand scheme of people, five didn't seem like all that many, but in the presence of how many people they'd come in with, it was a good number to be going off. So far, he'd sent Arthur and Vladimir on their way, both red in the face, Arthur clutching the body of Peter, who he'd classed as the third, although Yong Soo wasn't sure if he was alive and Ludwig and Gilbert had been sent away. He'd only had to run from one counterpart, who he was pretty sure had something to do with Feliciano or Lovino, and had hid from Kuro, but apart from that, hadn't had any run ins.
"You're doing good" he told himself. "Very good Yong Soo, very good."
"Very good." A hand clamped down on his shoulder and he shrieked, whirling around to face them, arms flying out as he did so and slapping them across the cheek. "Thanks."
Yong Soo stared for a second before laughing weakly. "Not my fault. You snuck up on me."
Kyung Soo glared at him, one hand clasped to his face, and straightened his posture a little. "How many do you know are out?"
"Five" Yong Soo said proudly. "I got five of them out."
"See any dead?" Kyung Soo asked.
Yong Soo frowned. "No. Should I have?"
"You must have picked the right corridors then" Kyung Soo grumbled. "Batukhan's dead."
"Dead?" Yong Soo stared. "But... he..."
"So's Alfred" Kyung Soo continued as though he'd never spoken. "And Feliks, and Toris, and Raivis, and Feliciano, and Elizaveta, and Milen, and Heracles."
"Anyone else I should know about now?" Yong Soo asked.
"No, that's just about it" Kyung Soo shrugged. "Trust you to avoid everyone."
"What's that supposed to mean?" Yong Soo snapped.
Kyung Soo shrugged again. "Vash is."
"And?" Yong Soo flapped his arms a little.
"I'm just saying" Kyung Soo said through gritted teeth. "You know, a bit of positivity. You're supposed to be all about the positive stuff, aren't you?"
"Positive after that bomb shell doesn't really work North" Yong Soo growled, folding his arms. "What do you expect me to do now?"
Kyung Soo pulled a face of disgust. "How should I know what you should do know? It's your own free will. You do what you want. Why are we even having this conversation?"
"You started it" Yong Soo jabbed a finger at him.
"I did not" Kyung Soo cried, offended. "I just informed you on the happenings of our fellow nations, as I thought you might want to know. It's you who's reacted badly to it like you have done."
"Throwing the blame at me now?" Yong Soo shouted.
"Look," Kyung Soo took a deep breath and glared at him. "You just need to calm down. You're overreacting, and that's making everything worse."
"See, blame" Yong Soo snapped.
Kyung Soo gritted his teeth. "You know, by shouting and making a fuss, you're not helping anything. You're just wasting time, and we have to get out of here too, you know?"
"I'm wasting time?" Yong Soo scoffed. "You're the one who turned up in the first place. I was fine before you appeared."
"For God's sake South, calm down, baegchi" Kyung Soo shouted, taking hold of his shoulders and shaking him violently.
"For God's sake, both of you calm down, idioten."
Kyung Soo froze and glared to the side at the figure carefully pacing down the corridor.
"What do you want Roderich?" Yong Soo snapped.
Roderich tutted and shook his head at them. "Neither of you are getting anywhere, and you've probably alerted every single counterpart in the building of exactly where you are right now too. I'm surprised you're still alone at the present."
"We were" Yong Soo huffed. "Till you showed up."
Roderich glared at him. "Dummkopf.
Kyung Soo let go of Yong Soo and stepped away from him, leaning against the wall, head turned away from both of the other nations. Yong Soo rolled his eyes and rubbed his shoulders. "That hurt by the way."
"Does it look like I care?" Kyung Soo hissed.
"Fur die liebe gottes" Roderich groaned. "Both of you, shut up. We can't be dealing with another war on our hands you know, least of all from you two."
Yong Soo huffed.
"By the way" Kyung Soo glanced at his watch. "This place is going to blow in approximately seven minutes and thirty-six seconds."
Yong Soo stared at him. "You've got to be joking." He groaned and glanced at Roderich. "Don't question it, just run."
Roderich stared at him. "Sorry?"
"We might have possibly, with the help of Leon, set a bomb, and if you don't get out now, you're going to die." Kyung Soo smiled.
"That's a bit reckless, isn't it?" Roderich asked. "What were you thinking of doing if you couldn't get out in time?"
"It's only a bomb" Yong Soo shrugged. "Personally, if I couldn't get out in time, I'd head towards the bomb. Quicker, more painless death that way you see."
Roderich didn't say anything, just fixed him with a disgusted look.
"Do you know exactly where we are in the building?" Kyung Soo asked, tapping his shoulder.
Roderich jumped at the touch. "Towards the back I think. There could be a backdoor somewhere here. They can't just have one entrance and exit, can they?"
"You never know" Kyung Soo shrugged and started walking. "We still have seven minutes. We can afford to wander around the edge of the building for a while, provided we're at the back of it, of course."
Yong Soo put an arm around Kyung Soo's shoulders and lead him towards the wall. "See this Kyung?
Kyung Soo frowned. "Yeah?"
"It's a wall" Yong Soo smiled.
"What about the wall?" Kyung Soo asked, confused.
"It's empty, unlike every other wall that we've passed" Yong Soo said. It has no doors. Nothing leading from this corridor. So, what does that mean?"
Kyung Soo glared at him. "We're at the back, or at the side of, the building."
"Correct" Yong Soo shook his head in mock disgust and took a step backwards. "Think."
"That was going a little over the top there though" Kyung Soo raised an eyebrow and started walking back in the direction he'd started to before. "Are you coming?" he said after a while, throwing a glance over his shoulder at them. "Standing there won't help anything."
"Pft" Yong Soo pulled a face, but followed him behind Roderich.
They skirted the outer wall of the building for a good three minutes, wasting almost half of the time they had left, and by then, Roderich was complaining, and they'd only turned one corner.
"This is ridiculous" Roderich snapped. "We're not going to get anywhere like this, are we? We may as well just, leave. Now. Go straight for the exit we know is there."
"It was you who suggested this" Yong Soo hissed, glancing around as though to check that no one else was there. "And if I die, I'm suing your country."
"How are you going to do that if you're dead?" Roderich raised an eyebrow. "And anyway, aren't you the one who was so unconcerned about it, you said you'd walk straight at the bomb?"
"I was just proving a point" Yong Soo shrugged. "And anyway, Kyung Soo would sue you for me. Right?"
"I'd be dead too" Kyung Soo replied blankly.
Yong Soo hesitated, as though he'd forgotten that. "Yeah, well..."
He was cut off by a voice that made them all freeze where they were.
"Hello? I know you're there. I just heard you." A head poked around the corner of a corridor they were coming up to, and the hopeful expression immediately disappeared. "Great. I thought someone useful was coming. Instead, we get you two, and... him." She gestured to Roderich with disgust. "I'm fine."
Roderich scoffed. "Nice to see you too Lida."
Lida rolled her eyes and went back around the corner. "Anyway, seeing as you're here, you could probably do with giving me a hand. If you want. It's not like I need you or anything." She appeared back within their sight again, a bundle held unsteadily on her bent back. "I found her like this."
"Who is it?" Kyung Soo asked as Yong Soo stepped forwards to take her from Lida.
"Wendy" Lida said, rolling Wendy off her back and carefully giving her to Yong Soo.
"She doesn't look too good" Roderich said.
"I could say the same to you" Lida looked them all up and down. "You all look like you've been through the apocalypse and back."
"We have" Kyung Soo muttered.
"How long?" Roderich came to stand beside him, bringing Lida with him.
"How long, what?" Lida frowned. "How long till what? What's happening?"
Kyung Soo glanced at his watch and sighed. "One minute and forty three seconds. We're not going to make it."
"Make what?" Lida shouted. "Make what?"
"There's a bomb" Yong Soo said, stopping next to her. "And we need to get out."
"There's a door" Lida said, turning back to the direction from which she'd come. "There's a door back this way. I went out for a bit, but no one was there, so I figured it was a wrong one and came back inside to find the right door. Seems a bit silly now really, don't you think?"
None of them answered, and just started marching towards where she'd pointed. At one minute, the march turned into a run which quickened at thirty seconds. At fifteen seconds, Lida ran out in front and turned down a smaller corridor, kicking the door at the end open so that bright light streamed in from outside. She stood against the door, holding it open as first Kyung Soo, then Yong Soo with Wendy, then Roderich, shot through, the door slamming behind her with three seconds to go. At zero, the building glowed red and a searing heat washed over the grass, singing the tips of it black, creating a blast that threw objects close to it a good few metres, that including Yong Soo, who watched Wendy falling from his grasp, Lida slamming into a tree, Kyung Soo rolling into a ditch and Roderich landing head first, before he too landed, and everything went black.
Note: thought you should probably know... they're actually not dea!!!! First time I could have killed a character, and didn't do!
