Chapter 3: Sun Painter Amaterasu
(Your POV)
I began walking after a while of running to catch my breath, and for the record, PE is nowhere near my best subject. I placed my hands on my knees to catch my breath, it was all quiet until I heard the space quake alarm go off. I groaned out loud and texted my 'brothers in arms' to ask them what I should do, and Kirumi sent me a location and the world's 'go get her tiger'. If I thought my allies were useless originally, I don't know what I think they are now. Despite this, I looked at my phone to see the location and noticed that the spirit was actually <Princess> and she was somewhere in the school. What are the odds?
I ran towards the classroom that the girl was supposedly in, but I decided to write some enchantments in kanji on my arm before going inside. I used Amaterasu to write "映" and "迅" on my arms, I then covered the kanji using my sleeves before continuing. I then reached the door where <Princess> supposedly was, and I took a breath in before opening the door. I didn't expect a warm welcome, but a giant sword to the throat wasn't too far off.
"Wow, rude." I huffed in annoyance at <Princess>, who was glaring at me while also pointing her sword at me. "I don't recall trying to kill you yesterday, and yet you still post your sword at me. Oh the humanity~."
"What are you doing here?" <Princess> asked in a cold voice, I looked into her eyes to get a basic idea of what she was feeling, and I saw unbiased cold mixed in with fear and confusion.
"I wanted to see you, Dumb-Dumb." I crossed my arms and smirked, followed by the girl lowering her sword from my throat, allowing me to take a breath in relief. "In all seriousness, you really don't have a name aside from <Princess>?"
"I don't have a name in general, that word you call me is just a label." The girl says in a monotone voice, geez she must be miserable. "I see why you make such a big deal out of names."
"I honestly can't stress the significance of names enough." I calmly said before walking to a somewhat damaged white board. "If a girl was a princess of the sun, we'd name her Taiyohime. That was more of an obvious example, but names basically give you an idea of who the person is."
"Well If they're so important to you, then you can give me a name." The girl suggested, making me smirk before grabbing a piece of chalk and starting to write. "Say, (Y/N), you called yourself a painter, what is that?"
"Someone who makes beautiful works of art with this thing called a paintbrush." I showed the girl Amaterasu, causing the girl to walk closer to me and curiously examine it. "By the way, never EVER touch my paintbrush."
"Why not?" The girl asked with curious eyes that were so full of wonder and curiosity, I almost found it hard to believe that she was trying to kill me earlier.
"My paint brush, Amaterasu, is almost alive and it's very picky about who she chooses to listen to." I informed the girl before putting my relic in my pocket. "If she sees someone as unworthy, she'll wait 30 minutes and either turn you into a horrifying monster of ink, devour your soul, possess you, or force you to watch Boku no Pico. Hopefully not the last one."
"So what are you writing?" The girl asks as she eyed the chalkboard, which now had the name 'Tonka' written on it.
"Well it's my idea for a name." I informed the girl, who simply glared at the name then at me, like she was about to strangle me. "You could just say your opinion."
"It sounds like you're mocking me." <Princess> commented, making me look at the name, which didn't seem that bad, but I can see where the girl was coming from.
"Okay, but how about this?" I erased the 'N' from 'Tonka' and replaced it with an 'H', making it 'Tohka'. "Tohka, you know, I hate to toot my own horn, but I think that name fits you well."
"Tohka...I like it." The <Princess'> new name was now Tohka, goodness gracious.
"It's now or never (Y/N)." Ryoma reminded me into my earpiece, forcing me to focus back on the mission at hand, then I saw several options in front of me once more. "I'd recommend being smooth about this."
"So Tohka, I know this is rather sudden, but I was hoping you'd like to go on a date tomorrow?" I asked the girl, from the earpiece, I heard audible groaning. "I understand if you don't wanna go as a couple, but as friends."
"Reeeaaal smooth."
"Shut up Ryoma."
"What's a date?" Tohka asked with eyes that reminded me of a stray kitten while she tilted her head sideways.
"Oh right, you don't know what a date is." I embarrassingly reminded myself before I attempted to come up with a way to describe a date that wouldn't result in Tohka killing me. "It's when a boy and girl go out into town and have fun together."
"Sounds good, I'll meet you tomorrow." Tohka responded before the wall suddenly blew up, catching both me and Tohka off guard, but we both managed to draw our weapons. "(Y/N), go hide."
"No." I stubbornly answered before I was thrown behind a desk by Tohka, which didn't hurt, but damn was it annoying.
I wrote the word 'Mirror' in the air in front of me using Amaterasu, then the word suddenly became solid and reflective like an actual mirror. I grabbed the makeshift mirror and held it at an angle so I could see what's going on with Tohka. I looked over to see that she was standing menacingly in front of a group of AST units. Gonta told me to never let someone fight their battles alone, so I quickly painted a mask in the air and put it on. The mask I summoned was nothing special, just a traditional kitsune mask with (f/c) lines that looked like tears and a mouth that's curved into a smile.
I kept waiting in that position until I heard gunshots, then I made a b-line in front of Tohka. Once I was in front of Tohka, I entered a wide stance and stretched my arms and legs to form a makeshift wall in front of Tohka. I watched as multiple bullets hurdled their way towards me and all of the AST units looked confused because of my sudden entrance. The moment the first bullet touched my skin, it reflected off me and back towards the AST units. All of the bullets reflected off my skin and made their way back towards the AST units. I then rolled up my sleeves to reveal the '映' I painted earlier.
"Don't you girls know that 映 means reflection?" I asked, thankful that the mask was distorting my voice to make it unrecognizable. "Perhaps you need a refresher in kanji. Burn through the inky seas you created, shine your light through the blackest of ink, let the sun dry what you've created...<BURN OUT, SUN PAINTER AMATERASU>!"
After my little chant was done, a bright pillar of flames erupted from my outstretched hand with <Sun Painter, Amaterasu>. I felt the pole of my paintbrush extending until the flames finally dispersed to reveal <Sun Painter Amaterasu> was now larger and looked different from regular Amaterasu. Just by holding the newly sized paintbrush it felt like a I was bathing in warm sunlight.
The AST units were so distracted with the sight of <Sun Painter Amaterasu>, they barely had time to react to the painting of giant serpents I painted around me. Well in their defense, <Sun Painter Amaterasu> allows me to paint faster than the eye can see. Once the AST units realized the snakes I painted, it was too late. I snapped my fingers together and the painted snakes suddenly began slithering to life. At the sound of my finger snap, giant, black and white cobras began darting towards the AST units.
"Tohka, I'd prefer it if you didn't have to fight." I calmly turned my head to the girl before entering a combat stance. "If all you've known in your life was violence, then your life was not worth living."
I calmly watched as the serpents I painted attempted to bite the AST units, all of whom soared high into the sky to avoid the reach of my snakes. So I simply responded by writing 火 directly below each of the AST units, who were so focused on the snakes, they forgot about me. I snapped my fingers once more and all of them started gushing out pillars of pure flame directly upwards. Some of more inexperienced AST pilots were signed enough to make them pass out from the heat, but not kill them entirely.
I watched as the newer AST units fell, but I'm better than them, so I painted a giant 臨 in the middle of the battlefield. Once I snapped my fingers, smoke came out of the word but the smoke was quickly followed by tentacles until the head of a familiar octopus showed itself. You see, I have a kraken familiar that's able to adjust its size, and his name is Scuba Doo. I jumped to the top of Scuba Doo's head, standing tall above it as my kraken finally settled down on the ground. I was thankful that Scuba Doo can breathe air and doesn't need water,
I ordered Scuba Doo to catch all of the falling AST units, which he did before placing their bodies on the school roof. At the same time, I was writing 火 in random spots in the air to shoot pillars of fire at random. However, I suddenly got the overwhelming feeling of dread, so I side-stepped to dodge a sword made of light that flew by me. I then used <Sun Painter Amaterasu> to block another strike by the mysterious swordsman AST unit, I let my curiosity get the better of me and looked at the unit, noticing it was Origami.
Origami luckily hasn't recognized me because of my master piece of a mask, so she kept on slashing at me with a killer intent, she must believe I'm a spirit. I'm not the best swordsman, so I put some distance between me and Origami by writing 爆 on the girl's sword. Then I blocked the sword, causing an explosion to engulf both me and Origami, surprising her and not even phasing me. I then pointed the brush part of my paintbrush at the sun, then I prepared to use my ultimate technique, the same technique that earned <Sun Painter Amaterasu> it's name. I gripped the wood just before the brush and the wood at the end of the brush, then I began rapidly writing in kanji.
天国 至福 微睡 為に 千 年間
地獄 苦しい 訳 為に 千 年間
"Heaven's Blissful Slumber For a Thousand Years, Hell's Agonizing Consciousness For a Thousand Years"
I painted the words in kanji with ink that looks like it was written using the sun itself, every character glowed yellow and blinding. Yet for some reason, we were able to look at it for some reason. In any case, after I painted the characters, I stood still and wrote 'Float' on Scuba Doo's head to allow him to fly. At the same time, my kanji began slowly dispersing. The line about heaven turned to gold dust and began hovering around the area like a fog, while the line about hell covered in the ground in pointed brimstone.
Scuba Doo and I floated above the AST units, all of whom looked confused beyond all belief about what they were witnessing. Then they breathed in the golden clouds and began drifting to sleep, all except for Origami and an older woman I'm guessing was the leader of this group. Lucky for us, the brimstone was just an average rock, so as the other AST units fell to the ground, their equipment managed to take the brunt of the fall.
"I'd recommend you two leave and get your troops some medical help." I bluntly advised the two AST units before dismissing the snakes, brimstone, and the golden cloud with a clap of my hands. "Their equipment did manage to take the brunt of the force, but chances are they'll have moderate bruising at worst and need surgery at worst."
"Why would a spirit care about human lives?" Origami asked in a threatening voice, which is completely different from her usual monotone voice. "We don't even know your name!"
"You can classify me as the <God Slaying Painter>." I then began spinning <Sun Painter Amaterasu> above me to create a spiral ball around me and Scuba Doo. "As for your question Origami, you should use your head and not let others think for you. Judge a spirit like you would an individual, give them a chance. If you don't then I'll let the nightmares run free."
By the time I finished my make-shift speech, there was a black spiral of ink surrounding me and Scuba Doo. I then let the ink consume both me and Scuba Doo, allowing us to fit into a large puddle of ink. I then forced this puddle of ink to fly through the school, making sure Tohka was no longer here before weaving my way through classrooms to make sure the AST didn't try to follow me. Once we reached the front of the school, I saw all of my friends waiting for me, but there was also someone else there.
So reconfigured both me and Scuba Doo into ink, only differences were that my mask was gone, Scuba Doo was back to his original size and on my shoulder, and Amaterasu was back in it's small form. I walked up to everyone to see conflicted expressions on all of their faces, which surprised me. I then looked at the new guy, but I noticed he was wearing a checkered bandana...wait.
"So you must be this (Y/N) (L/N) guy I heard so much about!" The boy said with child-like glee in his face. "I'm Kokichi Ouma! The ultimate liar!"
"So you're the lying cunt who got several people killed?" I innocently closed my eyes and smiled before pulling out Amaterasu. "Yippie Ki Yay Mothe Fuck-!"
Kaito karate chopped my head, forcing me to be quiet.
(Timeskip, brought to you by Gonta holding (Y/N), who is swing a folding chair around, back by his collar)
For some reason, all of us decided to talk about why Kokichi was hiding and why he's here now. Since I'm the main character of this story, we decided to have this meeting at my house. As if that wasn't enough, Kotori and Reine were there too. Kotori I can understand, but Reine was just here because Kotori was. While Reine was here, I forced Reine to get some sleep by taking away her electronic devices and pointing to the guest bedroom.
Back to us, all of us were scattered around the room. Kaede, Gonta, Tenko, and Angie were sitting on the long couch, all of whom seemed to be doing their own thing to keep their nerves under control. Kaito and Rantaro were sitting on either one of the seats to the sides of the couch. Ryoma and Miu were sitting at the bar chairs that were close to the living room. Korekiyo was leaning against the wall closest to the entryway, most likely standing guard or something. Kirumi was standing behind the couch, sharpening one of my steak knives while Kotori and I stood in front of Kokichi in the front of the room.
"So tell me, Kokichi, if that is even your real name, why weren't you here with the others?" I asked the boy, who was silently chuckling at the fact I was acting like a lawyer. "Answer the question or I'll let Scuba Doo loose!"
"Oh yeah, real scary." Kokichi eyed my tiny but mighty kraken familiar, who was flailing two of his tentacles to look scary. "To answer your question, I was given special instruction by that King of Games guys who saved me, because a Supreme Leader like myself is the only one who he can trust to do something so big."
"Careful (Y/N), Kotori, there's a reason he's called the ultimate liar." Kaede reminded me, gaining a nod from me before Kotori and I continued the interrogation.
"So who is this 'King of Games' fella anyways?" Kotori asked the boy, who was somehow taller than her but smaller than literally everyone else. "I keep hearing about him and some woman named Ursula, but we don't know anything about the two."
"Well that's the thing, he simply called himself the King of Games." Kokichi informs me, making look at everyone else to make sure they could confirm. "He looked just like (Y/N), but way older and smelled like the ocean."
"Either way he sounds like an idiot, but what I want to know is what kind of task he gave you." I pressed on, hoping to get as much information as I could from this interaction.
"He told me to wait until I thought you were worthy before giving you something." Kokichi placed his hands behind his back and smiled, pissing me off further because I have no idea what Kokichi is doing. "I've hidden it away for now, but you won't know what it is until I think you prove your worth."
"Hey (Y/N), mind if I ask something?" Rantaro asked, gaining a nod from me before he continued. "Kokichi, I'm being serious about this; we know Shuichi, Maki, and Himiko are alright, but what about Kiibo and Tsumugi?"
"To be honest, I didn't see any of them when I left the ruins of the academy." Kokichi said in a monotone voice. "Now that we're all on the same side, I have no reason to lie to any of you, but I can say that the three survivors of the Killing Game are currently looking for us. Of course, that's assuming the King of Games kept his end of the bargain."
"Wait, so what are you suggesting?" Kaito asked, excitedly getting up from his seat with a balled up fist. "Why would they be looking for us? All of us either died in their eyes or became monsters!"
"Simple, the King of Games told me that he wants to become someone his father could be proud of, so he's given everyone a second chance of redemption." Kokichi informed me, which surprised me because he's a liar. "But enough of all that, I'm hungry!"
"We're not done with this investigation!" Kotori shouted, hopefully not loud enough to wake Reine up, she needs her sleep.
"Fuck this investigation, I haven't ate anything since I died!" Kokichi wore a childish smile as he said this, I guess his little 'honest time' is up. "So are you and Kirumi going to make your guest anything or am I just going to starve here?"
"Why on earth would we serve someone like you-"
"(Y/N), where are the eggs in this house?"
"Kirumi, we are not feeding the midget!"
We ended up feeding him.
(A/N: I hope you enjoyed this chapter, and since I spoiled somethings to one of you, I'll have to rewrite the meta. For the record, yes, Kokichi is going to be another main character. As for everyone else....I haven't decided yet.
