Chapter 17: No, We're Not Dating Kotori
(Your POV)
"So you're a spirit?"
"Yes."
"And you didn't feel like telling us this, why?"
"Because I'm still not sure if you guys hiding anything."
"Most of us died and we all have fake memories plus real memories, what else is there to hide?!"
All of us were in the living room of the Spirit Mansion, interrogating Kotori because none of us knew she was a spirit before her little display of power back at the school. Moriko and Mana only had minor injuries, so we let them rest in the spare rooms. Moriko is now awake and sitting with Gonta, while I sit between Korekiyo and Ryoma. Kurumi was also asleep due to the massive shift in power, from basically being a god to being a regular person.
"So...does this mean (Y/N) has to date his sister?" Ryoma asked and I prayed that it wouldn't come to that. "That'd be pretty weird for a bunch of reasons."
"Love is love!" Korekiyo never even flinched at the mention of incest, but then again he's definitely the kinkiest guy in the room so we're just gonna move on.
"I was talking about the age gap, they're step siblings, so it's not as bad." Ryoma corrected Korekiyo, who huffed in an annoyed tone. "Besides, incest ain't wincest."
"Tell that to the Habsburgs." Korekiyo crossed his arms like a child, but he did have a point in some ways.
"Either way, can't (Y/N) just seal Kotori's powers right now and get it over with?" Shuichi suggested, which I was on board with.
"Yeah, but this series is called 'Date a Live' for a reason, so someone needs to date someone." Miu broke the fourth wall in an annoyed voice. "So our readers are expecting someone to date someone."
"Besides, I'm sure (Y/N) is tired after sealing all my power into his body." Kurumi, who is now wearing casual clothes, sat next to Himiko, earning a glare from Tenko. "I was quite the powerful spirit afterall."
"I'm not tired from that, it's just that we had to pull uno reverse card after reverse card." I sighed as I rubbed the back of my neck. "By the way, Moriko, I'm amazed that you're not attacking Kotori on the spot."
"Well I guess she's my cousin's step sister, so she's like family to me too." Moriko seemed alright with the spirit situation, but I noticed her sneaking glances at Gonta.
"Are you sure it's not just because you're in love with Gonta?" Kiibo was blunt about this, causing Moriko to turn bright well, while Gonta had a pink tint to his face. "Wait, was I not supposed to say that?"
"Not now Anyways." I sighed before pulling a card out of my pocket. "I have to work at an Amusement Park, so I'd like to leave so I can get to work, you guys are free to come with me. All entrances are free so long as they're with me and while I'm working there."
"When did you accept this job?" Kotori asked whilst she handed her palm to me, revealing kanji for 'seal', but it was fading away, when did I seal her powers?
"Yesterday, after I sealed away Kurumi's power into my body." I answered as I began writing in kanji on Kotori's hand over the faded symbol. "By the way, did I seal your powers before?"
"Yeah, I assume it's not that surprising you don't remember, but you sealed my powers when they went berserk when we were younger." Kotori explained, but that doesn't explain why my memory of our younger years together is so blurry. "The flames spread across the neighborhood, and you barely sealed my powers before passing out from the heat."
"That does sound like me." I sweat dropped, since now everyone knows why I hate summers so much, along with the heat. "Okay, you're good to go, anyone want to come with me to the amusement park?"
"It sounds like fun, Gonta, would you like to accompany me?" Moriko asked, and all of us saw a golden opportunity for our Entomologist friend.
"Of course, Gonta will accompany Moriko like true gentleman!" Gonta accepted Moriko'd invitation, and in sync, all of our faces turned smug, except for Gonta or Moriko's.
"In that case, let's help you two get ready." Miu grabbed onto Moriko's shoulder while Kaito grabbed onto Gonta's. "(Y/N), we're all leaving at 12!"
"Fine, let me get the van ready." I watched as everyone except for Tohka, Kurumi, and I split into groups based on gender, then they separated Gonta and Moriko to help them get ready. "So...do you girls wanna help me get the van ready or are you two wanting to relax?"
"Sure, afterall, I'm sure you could use my help."
"Well then I won't leave (Y/N) alone with you!"
(Timeskip, brought to you by (Y/N) loading several kinds of paint brushes into a large van)
After some (most likely illegal) driving methods of having almost everyone in the back like cargo, we arrived at the amusement park. Gonta and Moriko were both well dressed, so they got to ride in the two seats behind the driver and passenger seats. As for who sat between them, it was Yoshino. Since this was MY van, I was the one driving, and Reine was the only adult here, so she sat in the passenger seat. The moment I opened the back door, everyone else jumped out to stretch their legs and breathe, even though the drive itself was only ten minutes. I did need help getting out all the paintbrushes and other equipment, so Angie and Kaede, being the angel she is, helped me out with them. I didn't need to bring paint because the amusement park was supplying me with their own.
"So Moriko and Gonta will meet back here at eight with the rest?" Gonta asked as she adjusted his tie, his only difference was that he had his hair in a neat ponytail and wore shoes for once.
"Yup." I confirmed the plan whilst taking off my jacket and tying it around my waist, revealing a white t-shirt underneath. "You and Moriko enjoy yourselves, while the rest of you...do whatever I guess."
"Are you sure you won't need help (Y/N)?" Moriko was the most well dressed of all of us, she was wearing a casual dress, had her hair in a braid, and wore makeup. "Painting this whole amusement park with your designs is no small feat."
"Fufufu, you underestimate my power." I spoke confidently whilst wrapping a paint-stained bandana around my head like a certain three style swordsman. "I am (Y/N) (L/N), the Ultimate Painter! Pay me money, and EVERYTHING gets painted! I am the god of paint itself! Also Angie's helping me."
"Hello!" Angie popped out from behind my back, since she was an artist as well, she can help, but I surpass her in the painting category.
"Also, Angie, no paintings of Atua." I felt like a parent when I told her that, but I wasn't done. "Moriko, no prettying dogs without permission. Gonta, no talking to bugs when someone's watching. Kiibo, keep your disguise on. Tenko, no drop kicking strangers unless you KNOW for certain they're being a creep. Kokichi, no pranks or lying to strangers. Himiko, no magic shows."
"I'm sorry what was that about drop kicking?" Kurumi was new here, so she thinks we're actual professionals, but she's about to learn that all of us have only five brain cells between us, and Moriko's just an innocent bystander in the way of our chaos.
"Oh yeah, Tenko is the ultimate Anti-Ugly Bastard, so she violently Ora Ora's anyone she thinks is gonna recreate an unwholesome hentai." I explained as briefly as possible. "Now that's taken care of, who's ready to have some fun?"
Everyone cheered in agreement and went off to do their own thing. Angie and I were left to meet up with the park manager and told what we needed to do. I just needed to paint some walls with amusement park designs, which shouldn't be too hard. I walked towards the first piece of wall, which was an office building. I saw there were multiple cans of spray paint, buckets of paint, and a sticky note with a basic idea of what the amusement park wants. I showed the note to Angie whilst I got to work, my first step was imagining the design I was going to paint. I decided to go with the same amusement park's silhouette over the sunset on the east wall and a sunrise on the west wall.
I poured some yellow paint into a paint tray and rolled a roller through it before I started painting the wall. I began painting the wall with almost supernatural ease, I somehow was able to paint with not only my hands, but also my teeth. The painting was going to take a little while, but with three paint brushes, it was going to take a lot less time to complete. Angie on the other hand just sat on a nearby crate, swinging her small legs with the wind.
"Hey (Y/N), how long have you had that paintbrush?" Angie asked, referring to Amaterasu. "Atua has never seen a weapon like yours before, so Angie must ask what it is!"
"I've had my paintbrush since I was in the orphanage with Mana, so in other words, a very long time." I explained as I dipped one paintbrush in a bucket of water before moving onto black paint.
"You were in an orphanage before?" Angie asked, and it wasn't a sensitive topic for me, unlike most people, it's just a fact about me I've embraced.
"Yeah, I'm unsure who me or Mana's parents were, and I consider myself lucky to have been adopted by Kotori's family." I explained. "Mana was adopted by Moriko's family evidently, and somehow became involved with the AST."
"By the way, where is Kotori's family?" Angie asked, and to be honest, I kind of forgot where they are.
"Beats me." I answered before turning the conversation to Angie. "Say, Angie, what about you? Where's your family?"
"No idea!" Angie was in the same boat as me, and her positivity never faltered. "Remember, Shuichi told us that we have fake memories and real memories mixed together, which makes things incredibly confusing."
"Yeah but we can pick out some of the more crazy bits, like Gonta being raised by lizard people or something." I joked to lighten the mood, mostly because I can't read Angie at all.
"(Y/N) silly, we're dealing with beings that could be considered gods, anything goes!" Angie informs me, and it hurts how right she is. "Speaking of Gonta, how do you think his date with your cousin is going?"
"Knowing those two, they're either talking to a dog or petting a bug." I sweatdropped, those two really love their nature. "Still, I personally think it's a match made in heaven, they kind of balance eachother out."
"Say, why don't you and I spy on them when we finish?" Angie offered, like why on earth would I spy on my best friend and his soon-to-be girlfriend?
I'm in.
(Timeskip, brought to you by Ryoma launching a tennis ball into the camera, causing (A/N) to scream in annoyance because now he had to buy another GODDAMN CAMERA)
It was now dusk, and I finished my job. I helped with cleaning by putting away the paint buckets and throwing out the empty ones into the dumpster. I put my paint brushes back in the van before regrouping with Angie, who was spying on Gonta and Moriko. 'To make sure their date goes right', we justified. We were also joined by Kokichi, Korekiyo, and Miu. The five of us were 100% ready to 'take care' of any one who ruined their date.
"So is this what it's like when you guys help me with my dates?" I asked as Gonta and Moriko bought a couple of chocolate cornets from a stand.
"Pretty much." Korekiyo answered bluntly whilst the five of us hid behind a tent, attracting the attention of a passersby that looked a lot like me, but he had a parka around his waist and walked beside a girl with long crimson hair. "They're on the move."
We followed Gonta and Moriko to one of those strength carnival games where you smash a hammer on a button and launch the thingy to a bell. I'm a painter, cut me some slack, I don't pay attention to the names of carnival games. Either way, Moriko handed her cornet to Gonta before picking up the hammer. Morioko flex her left bicep with a giggle, causing Gonta to laugh a bit as well before slamming the hammer onto the button, only raising the thingy halfway. The guy running it laughed as Moriko traded Gonta for the two cornets. Gonta didn't even hesitate to slam the hammer down onto the button, breaking it and shooting the thigh into the sky like an involuntary astronaut, or Kaito when he finally manages to sneak into NASA without getting caught again. As for the bell, it was now in half.
"Ah yes, the 'make yourself look weak' strategy." Miu tried sounding professional, but you guys have been here long enough that none of us are professionals. "It makes the man feel strong."
"Looks like the Earth just got a new astronaut." I salute to the thingy that Gonta sent into the air. "I pray for your success in the future Commander Metallic Orb Thing That Usually Hits the Bell."
"What is with that name?" Korekito asked in a deadpan manner, but I still have no idea what that thing was.
"Guys, they're on the move again." Kokichi pointed at Moriko and Gonta, who were walking towards a small bench.
Gonta and Moriko both sat down at this bench and began chatting to one another enthusiastically, like they did when they first met. That spark in their eyes never left, and their enthusiasm only grew the more they talked. Their conversation was so deep to them, that the five of us were just able to sit on the bench across from them without them noticing. I was squished between Korekiyo and Miu, while Kokichi was eating popcorn that he got from a popcorn stand. They were talking about relationships in the animal kingdom before they both quieted down and their faces grew more and more red as they spoke. They kept on getting quiet and red until they were completely silent and red-faced both of them looking down at their laps. They were so nervous, I could practically see steam coming from their ears, and it was adorably silently before Moriko spoke up.
"Gonta, how do you feel about...me?" Moriko asked, she was always straightforward and tomboyish, so her making the first move wasn't out of the question.
"Gonta thinks Moriko is smart..." Gonta out a finger to his chin to begin thinking before he answered fully. "Moriko is also very nice, warm, smells nice, and very very pretty!"
"T-Then how do you feel about d-dating me?" Moriko asked, and I could tell Angie was recording this on her phone.
"G-Gonta would like that v-very much..." Gonta answered as he turned bright red. "Would Moriko l-like to date Gonta?"
"I would love nothing more." Moriko raised her head to reveal a smile on her face. "So I suppose this is the part where I tell you that I'm in love with you. I love the way you smile, talk enthusiastically about bugs, and I love your passionate side. You deserve so much yet you ask for so little, and I would love to give you the world, but I can only offer my love right now."
"Gonta thinks the same way about Moriko." Gonta returned Moriko's feelings. "Gonta wants to protect Moriko more than a gentleman, maybe as partner. Gonta loves Moriko's voice, Moriko's habits, and Moriko's beauty. Gonta loves Moriko."
In response to this, Moriko hugged Gonta and kissed his cheek passionately, causing the entomologist to turn a bit red before returning the hug tightly. The two began laughing out of joy, and before me I saw a rather touching scene, two soulmates finally confessing to one another. I was half tempted to paint a picture, but the beauty of this scene can only be witnessed by those who were there. So you can see why I'm mad at Kokichi for ruining the moment by taking a picture with flash on. This managed to get the attention of the couple, making Moriko go red and Gonta only turn slightly pink.
"Hey guys!" Gonta greeted with a smile while Moriko hid in Gonta's chest. "Gonta finally confessed love for Moriko!"
"It was kind of obvious since her introduction, but congratulations." Korekiyo was acting like we weren't just spying on them. "I mean, you both talk to nature's beings, Moriko talks to the animals and Gonta talks to the bugs."
"Really?" Kokichi turned his head to Korekiyo. "I thought they made a good couple because they're both innocent, lovable people that could kick all of our asses into outer space?"
"In my opinion, they're just lovable Nature Dorks." I teased with a smirk before getting up from my seat. "Come on guys, it's 7:30, so we should start heading back to the van."
And then the thingy landed on top of the guy who looked like me but with a parka, causing blood to gush out.
"Commander Metallic Orb Thing That Usually Hits the Bell has returned from his mission!"
"How did that land not kill that guy?!"
(A/N: In case you're wondering, Gonta and Moriko are going to be a couple for the rest of this book. Look, I told you these kids deserved better than what they got, so this is my way of giving them a better fate. By the way, Incase you're putting 2+2 together (or in this case Paint a Live+Call of the Hunt), Moriko looks like you, and is your cousin, so it wouldn't be surprising if her and Gonta's kid ended up looking like you with some minor differences like more height and the ability to talk to animals/bugs. Also Moriko's last name is Forest, and Gonta is unsure about his past, so he'd be more likely to change his last name to Forest since he knows that last name is real.
