Chapter 12: Siblings and The Past

(Your POV)
After I gave Kurumi her tour, I decided to head to a nearby supermarket with Tohka, Gonta, and Korekiyo. Tohka said she wanted a hamburg steak, but I didn't have the ingredients, so we needed to go to the supermarket anyways. Everyone else still had to move their things from their apartments to the mansion, and the two helping us already took care of it so they're helping us. All of us were currently talking about random subjects just for fun.

"Fun fact; the belief that vore day is on 8/8 as pun eight/ate, but I heard it was started by the Japanese." Korekiyo explained whilst I paid for my groceries. "The way 8/8 is written in Japanese is a pun on the sound a growling stomach makes."

"So what?" I deadpanned at my anthropologist friend. "The fat that there's actually a holiday for vore and not Bob Ross is concerning."

"It means we have wonderfully cross cultural shared pun going on and if that's not the coolest shit ever then you are simply wrong." Korekiyo was still posing, so I handed some grocery bags to Gonta and Tohka.

"Still, why does vore get it's own holiday?" I asked, gaining a shrug from Korekiyo along with a curious expression. "I feel like garlic bread deserves it's own holiday."

"What's vore?" Tohka's sweet innocence was showing, and I saw an evil glint in Korekiyo's eye, this fucker better not ruin Tohka's innocence.

"One of the many reasons why the gods stay in the heavens and we humans are doomed to rot here." Korekiyo explained with a smug look, most likely he was just toying with me.

"Thank you, come again!" The poor clerk said the cookie cutter line as we left, leaving the four of us to walk to the mansion, wherever it is.

After the supermarket, we started walking to the mansion. There was a setting sun, which Korekiyo taught us many myths about until we came across two individuals who looked rather familiar in my opinion. One of the girls looked to be around middle school, she had (h/c) hair, (e/c) eyes, and a petite frame. As for the other individual, she was around our age, yet she had (h/c) hair and emerald green eyes. I quickly realized these people were my little sister, who I selfishly abandoned long ago and my cousin from Remnant.

"Big Brother!" Mana recognized me on the spot, beaming with a smile before tackling me with a hug. "I missed you!"

"I missed you too, Mana." I ruffled Mana's hair, and I was happy to see my little sister again. "I'm so glad to see you again, what have you been up to?"

"Nothing much, who are these people?" Mana asked as my cousin came walking towards us.

"The guy with the mask is Korekiyo, the muscle of the group is Gonta, and the cinnamon roll is Tohka." I introduced everyone, yet something was off when my cousin came along.

"Nice to meet you guys, I'm Moriko, (Y/N)'s cousin." My cousin introduced herself before introducing Mana. "This is Mana, (Y/N)'s biological sister."

(I know she's adorable, but she's your cousin)

"The feeling is mutual, but I didn't know (Y/N) actually had another sister aside from Kotori." Korekiyo explained his light surprise.

"G-Gonta is h-happy to meet Moriko t-too." Gonta stuttered a bit, something he never did, and he was also red faced and looked nervous.

"Hello!" Tohka greeted cheerfully, I'm glad she didn't get jealous like she did with Yoshino.

"To celebrate the sudden reunion, why don't we head to our place and catch up?" I offered, gaining a beaming smile from Mana and a joyous smile from Moriko.

"Are you sure about that, we don't want to trouble you?" Moriko didn't change all that much, but I insisted that I make them something before we depart.

"Gonta, needs to talk to (Y/N) for a moment." Gonta decided to pull back for a moment. "Could Korekiyo, Tohka, Mana, and Moriko give (Y/N) and Gonta some time?"

"Sure thing, I'll show the girls the way." Korekiyo explained, as he took the bags from Gonta.

Before they left, I made sure to make a snake made of ink from my Amaterasu, just to ensure Korekiyo didn't pull anything funny.  The two of us waited until everyone else turned a corner before Gonta began talking, and I was rather surprised by what I heard.

"When (Y/N) fell in love with Kaede, what did (Y/N) feel like?" Gonta asked, which is a random question and making me slightly regret telling the entomologist about my crush.

"Let me think..." I did a good job at surprising my abnormal behavior, so it was difficult to remember. "Getting nervous whenever I spoke to her, red faced whenever she was near, just being in a better mood whenever she was around, and difficulty speaking just to name a few. Why do you ask?"

"Gonta's heart started beating faster when he met Moriko." My friend informed me, now things were getting interesting. "Does (Y/N) think Gonta likes Moriko...?"

"I'm fairly certain you like her, and if you'd like, I can probably wingman you." I offered, I may not know if Moriko feels the same way, but I can probably find out at some point.

"Wing...man...?" Gonta appears not to know what a wing man is. "You mean give Gonta wings?"

"Not my original intention, but that has the potential to be romantic at some point." I began imagining random renaissance paintings I could recreate. "I mean better your chances of Moriko becoming your friend, or something more..."

"Something more?" Gonta was having trouble keeping up with my linguistic skills, didn't he tell me he was raised by wolves? "Like what?"

"You'll know eventually." I put my hands behind my head and started walking towards the mansion. "By the way, Moriko really likes animals, and her family owns an animal reserve on Remnant. For the record, that also includes bugs."

"Really?!" Gonta was officially excited, and something tells me his heart was overjoyed. "Thank you (Y/N), Gonta will do his best to start conversation!"

"Sure thing, now let's go, I wanna see what this mansion looks like."

(Timeskip brought to you by Gonta nervously looking around, trying to come up with a conversation topic)

(The spirit mansion)

The two of us arrived after Mana and Moriko met everyone and introduced themselves. Kurumi was trying to keep up a good impression by using flex tape to seal Miu's mouth. All of us walked into the manner to see a large room that was probably used as a greeting hall, and all over the room were various pieces of furniture, decor, paint, and supplies.

"Atua greets you!" Angie greeted my cousin and little sister as the smell of dinner filled the air around us. "Kirumi is making us dinner, so you guests can relax in the living room, which is just the couches over there!"

Angie points at an entryway, which revealed an almost empty room that only had a pair of mismatching couches on them. Gonta, Moriko, Mana, Angie, and I walked into the make-shift living room whilst Korekiyo went to finish moving his stuff into his room. Mana, Moriko, and Gonta sat on one couch and I sat on the other with Angie. Mana and I mainly started using this time to start catching up, while Gonta and Moriko began warming up together when Gonta mentioned that he was raised by wolves and that's why his grammar isn't the best.

"Hey (Y/N), who is this?" Angie asked out of the blue, and I could understand her confusion, I don't possess a picture of my family.

"Mana is my biological little sister." I explained, and I can't tell if Angie is actually interested or not because she has the same expression 24/7. "That reminds me, there's someone I'd like for you to meet, Mana, my adoptive little sister-"

"(Y/N)!" Kotori entered the area, seemingly pissed behind all belief. "Who is this?!"

"Well speak of the devil and she shall appear." I muttered to myself before explaining the situation. "Kotori, this is my biological little sister, Mana (L/N), and my cousin, Moriko Forrest."

"But I'm the only little sister you'll ever need!" Kotori shouted, and I was tempted to just start laughing right then and there. "What's with that look!?"

"You insult me on a daily basis, the only reason I haven't reported you to the police for assault and battery was because Mom told me not to!" I shouted in my defense whilst pointing at the red haired girl.

"I also told you to stop calling me mom!" Kirumi shouted from the kitchen, she has an amazing hearing when she needs it.

"Well no matter how close the bond, nothing can surpass the bond of blood siblings." Mana said with a challenging smirk, this is not gonna end well.

"I don't know sis, nothing stops a step brother when his step sister is stuck in something." I recalled, step brothers are a terrifying force. "Possibly not even Thanos can stop them."

"Oh please, a step sister is always closer than a biological sister." Kotori argued back, causing lightning to spark between the two girls.

"Did somebody say sister?" Korekiyo slid in, and for once I could see Angie's hair cover her eyes slightly, making her look terrifying.

"I'm still mad about the events of the Killing Game Korekiyo." Angie was pissed, but she didn't move, not sure what someone as tall as Kotori can do but I ain't no risk taker. "You need to chill when it comes to your sister or by Atua I will beat you senseless."

"That's fair." Korekiyo tilted his hat and walked away, causing Angie to go back to normal.

"For the record, the step sis is closer to the brother for reasons that we will not go into." I deadpanned, not wanting to summon Miu, wherever she was. "One other thing, I would like to very much reconnect with my sister, so if you don't mind..."

"No, we must settle who is the better little sister!" Kotori shouted, and her pride was on the line this time. "Miu told me the advantages of being a step sister, so allow me to tell them to you!"

Anime was a mistake and so were fanfics.

"In the name of Atua you will not repeat a word she has told you!" Angie covered Kotori's mouth using her hand, praise Atua that she did that.

"Of course, as his biological sister, I know all his secrets." Mana said smugly, but there was one major flaw in her logic.

"We haven't seen or heard from one another in years, we barely know each other." I kept a calm demeanor while Angie finally let go on my adoptive sister's mouth.

The two little girls kept on bickering back on forth, but to my pleasant surprise, Gonta and Moriko didn't seem to notice, they were in their own little world. Gonta and Moriko had the most brilliant smiles on their faces and stars were very visible in their eyes, one minute Gonta was excitedly telling Moriko about a bee he found and the next Moriko was going on about her favorite elephant at the animal reserve. Each time the two listened to one another that glint never left either of their eyes. They kept complete eye contact with one another despite having a slightly red hue to their faces, and they were passionately talking to someone who shared their passion and was ready to learn about them. I honestly could have painted a picture of how much they acted like dorks in love, with Gonta showing off one of the insects he had in his case he always had on him and Moriko excitedly showing off images of the various animals she's taken care of and helped out.

The mood was almost ruined when the sound of glass shattering on the ground, and I volunteered to go check out the source of the noise. I left the room and requested that Angie do something should Kotori and Mana's fight become physical. I walked towards where I thought I heard the noise and found it led to someone's room, Ryoma's. I gently opened the door and saw the tennis player without his cap, revealing his short, dirty blonde hair. He was scrambling to pick up something, and upon closer inspection revealed it was sharp glass. So I made a dustpan from ink and walked to help my friend.

"Hey man, is everything alright?" I asked whilst kneeling down towards the glass and using my paintbrush to help brush the shards of glass into the pan. "You shouldn't pick up glass with your hands, I don't exactly want you getting hurt."

"I'm fine, thanks for asking..." Roma thanked me, and judging from the tone of his voice, he wasn't fine at all.

"My dude, why on Earth are you lying?" I asked the boy while I still brushed up the shards of glass. "You don't exactly need to lie anymore, so what's on your mind."

"You and I both know I was only revived to help you out." Rooms went on, I heard that he had depression, but I didn't think it would be this bad. "Besides, we were lucky with Tohka, but it's only a matter of time before one of us dies because of a spirit. I'd prefer it be me, since I'm just a prisoner on death row."

"Look around you, my friend, do you see steel bars?" I finished sweeping up the glass shards and dumped them into a nearby trash can. "You're as free as you make yourself out to be, and from what I've seen, you don't seem like the type who deserves to die."

"I appreciate the words, but unlike you, I've killed people, and I've got nothing to live for." Ryoma looked out the single window of his room, and I began to see some misery in them.

"Who said I never killed before?" I asked, which did manage to catch Ryoma's attention. "Now that I've got your attention, let me know what's on your mind."

"Heh, you're a sly fox." Ryoma reached onto the ground and handed me a photo, allowing me to look at it. "I really am just a cowardly asshole, who can't do anything right. Even after I offered to die just so my friends could go free, I managed to find a way to screw that up too. Then King brought me back for some stupid reason just a suffer more, everyone I get close to dies. It was only a miracle they managed to come back this time, but who's to say there's a next time? I just wish I can help them and not be a stupid piece of shit."

(The picture Ryoma shows you)

"I don't see a failure in front of me." I commented on my friend's words. "I know I'm not the best when it comes to consoling others, but you tried your best in a desperate situation. You're too hard on yourself, but aside from that, you're much more than a murderer. You're the kind of guy who wants to do everything to protect his friends, and is even willing to die for them. No matter what those voices in your head says, not a single one of us here thinks you're a failure."

"I appreciate the kind words, but you don't need to worry about me." Ryoma looked down, and I began to get sick of this guy's depression, always making him hate himself, he deserves to be happy, goddamnit! "Besides, you've got a family to worry about you, not me though. The only family I have was a cat, and I'm sure he's forgotten about me."

"You have an opportunity to meet your furry companion again, so how about this, tomorrow you and I go find him?" I offered, and I saw a glimmer of hope in my friend's eyes. "Underneath that murderous exterior, I see the kind of guy who really deserves to be happy. I know words don't mean much to most people, but I genuinely want to help not just everyone else, but you too."

"Heh, I guess I was right when I pegged you for a hopeless forgiver." Ryoma let out a laugh before turning around fully to me. "However, I will take you up on your offer to find my cat, but don't be surprised if he doesn't remember me."

"I don't know bro, I think you might just be surprised by reality." I stood up from the ground and placed the picture in Ryoma's hands. "Of course, what do I know? I'm just a painter."

With that said, I left the room in silence, not really sure if I helped Ryoma at all, but at least he accepted my offer to find his cat again. I walked down the stairs to see Mana and Moriko were leaving, so I reluctantly wished them a farewell along with Gonta, Angie, and Kotori. Before she left, Moriko wrote something down on a torn piece of paper before giving it to Gonta. Moriko was slightly red faced by this, and Gonta was confused. We watched as Moriko and Mana went out the door and onto the sidewalk. I'm gonna take a wild guess and say that Kotori and Mana argued the entire time I was talking to Ryoma.

"What's this?" Gonta asked while he showed off the note he got from Moriko, which had a phone number written on it.

"That's a phone number, you can use it to contact Moriko." I explained before remembering Gonta isn't too adept at electronics.

"Wait, Gonta got a date?!" Kaito shouted in curiosity as he sprung up from a large box full of packaging peanuts.

"Why were you in a box?"

"Mind yo business, Kotori."

(A/N: I just realized how similarly Kirumi and Kurumi are spelt, so this is gonna be fun for everyone. For the record, now we have everyone living in the room, and they're all chaotic individuals with PTSD and other trauma. For the record, Moriko is an OC and Mana's appearance had to change because if she looked like Shido, then mama would have had some explaining to do.
