"Don't be silly, your daddy would never let us be together." You sat next to each other hand in hand watching the sun set over the sandy soil from the edge of your perch, soon the only light would be the flickering end of Jesse's cigarette.

"You've changed... we can show him that you've changed." He laughed gently and dangled his feet over the cliff at which you were sat.

"Even if I had changed, me and my crew hit enough of his convoys to make him remember me for a lifetime. Don't worry, I'll be gone by the time the sun rises anyway." Your heart sank all the way to the bottom of the cliff face, you turned to face him, but he remained stone-faced and just drew on his cigarette, the smoke melded with the brisk summer nights breeze.

"But the-"

"Don't try and stop me." His face remained stout and he took his hand off yours. "If your father finds out we've been together he'll be after blood and one of won't make it out alive. I can't put you through that."

"You can't just up and leave me Jesse. You've done it before and I'm not going to let you do it again."

"I'm sorry sugar." He finally turned to face you, for the first time since you had been with him you saw tears roll down his cheek. "But you don't get a choice. There is no way I can stay here with you.I can't put you in danger like that, I've pissed off too many people in this town."

"Then let me come with you."

"You know that isn't how any of this works. We won't make it to the next town over before we'll get found." His hand found its way back onto yours, pulling it under his poncho for warmth.

"Then we keep running. I don't care how far. I don't care how many times I need to change my name."

"We might be settled for ten years and at the drop of my hat we'll need to pack up and go. No goodbyes, no explanations. I'm a criminal y/n. I've done some really fucked up things in my life that I need to run from. Is that really a life that you want?"

"Is it a life that I'll get to stay with you? A life where I'll get to wake up next to the person that I love forever?"
