A WHAT?!?
Sorry, this chapter's going to be short because it's 12:43 am, I have to go to school tomorrow and wake up at 6:00. I'm so freaking tired it's not even funny.
Philip skips to the door, smiling, but stops abruptly in front of it. He frowns remembering his living situation. Narrowing his eyes he turns the knob and walks into the house.
"I have something to tell you guys, I just don't know how Philip will take i- oh! Hi Philip!" Eliza cuts herself off when she sees Philip.
Philip just raises an eyebrow. Eliza is visibly sweating. Philip wrinkles and crosses his arms. This was going to be harder than Eliza thought.
"Philip, we need to talk." Alexander says.
They all file into the living room, Alex and John sit on the couch, Philip puts his stuff down, then goes to sit in his designated chair...only to find Eliza sitting in it. Philip says nothing, but just sits on the ground. Philip was a very quite child.
"So, what did you want to talk about mom?" He asks.
Eliza hesitates, but then blurts out,
"I'm having a baby! You're going to be a big brother!"
Alex gasps and John starts tearing up.
Philip doesn't say a word. Instead, he goes into a shock. He couldn't process this. Now he won't be the baby, or biggest need of the family anymore. He would be replaced. And from the looks of it, it was already starting.
"Whose the father?" Alex asks.
Eliza squeals.
"It's Alex's!" She exclaims.
John is hurt inside but doesn't show it. Instead, he smiles and cheers.
"I just hope this one will be normal." Eliza whispers, because she doesn't think Philip could hear her.
She was wrong. Philip's eyes brim with tears, and he covers his mouth. Eliza sees Philip.
"Aw, you must be crying happy tears. I bet the baby will be so cute! I have to start planning a baby shower! Eeee! I'm so happy I get a second chance!" Eliza practically shouts.
Philip gasps at how rude his mother was being. And nobody was coming to his defense! What is wrong with these people?
~Later~
After every had gone to bed Philip laid in his bed wide awake. He turned onto his side. It didn't help. He tossed and turned. He HATED his mother right now. How selfish and mean could she and the baby be? It wasn't really the baby's fault. He just felt like blaming it.
He got out of his warm bed and pulled on some socks. Then he VERY quietly shuffled downstairs.
He grabbed his jacket and slipped on his shoes. Then he walked out the door, being very cautious to lock it. Then he made his way to a park that was a few blocks down. Finding a clean park bench to sit on, he took a seat and glanced up at the stars.
John heard some shuffling, he climbed out of bed very slowly carful not to wake anybody up. He saw Philip's shoes and coat missing. He grabbed his own and rushed to the place he knew Philip would be. The park.
See, out of all the adults, Philip connected and loved John the most.
He saw the little boy sitting on the bench. Rushing up to Philip, John said,
"What are you doing out here Philip?"
"Couldn't sleep."
"Why didn't you come talk to one of us?"
Silence.
"Philip?"
"Yeah?"
"Can you answer me?"
"I just did."
John facepalms. Then he takes a seat next to Philip.
"You know what?" He asks.
"What?" Philip responds.
"Your smarter then you let on."
"I know."
"You know how Eliza is expecting another one?"
"Yeah? What about it?"
"I'm a little disappointed."
"Why?"
"Because...the baby is not actually mine. Will the baby ever be mine? Why is it always Alex? Why is he the one Eliza gives all the attention to? Why doesn't Eliza like me? Why doesn't Eliza-"
"Why do you care so much about what Eliza thinks?"
"I don't know. I guess I'm always in the middle. Eliza's so sweet and cuddly. Alex brings everyone down to earth, there's no need for me."
"But I need you."
John looks down at Philip in surprise. Philip just grins. John softens, after all, no matter how smart Philip may be, a six year old could only understand so much.
"C'mon, let's go home."
"Ok, dad."
"I love you Philip, I will always love you."
Philip felt his heart ache. How could he keep his plan up, AND love John? Philip guessed he COULD make one small exception.
"I love you too, dad."
John felt his heart melt. He held his hand out to Philip, and Philip grabs it. They walk home together. Hand in hand.
Actually, this wasn't that short. At all. Whatever.
