VI. Twelfth Night
1 year earlier:
The boyfriends had travelled to America together for a special event. The evening was warm and the city was bustling with people walking to and from work. Yoongi guided Jimin to a large, elegant building with a well lit sign at the end of the extended awning.
Both men were dressed very nicely for this date. Yoongi brought him to the Tivoli Theater in Tennessee. The announcement sign read tonight's play: "TWELFTH NIGHT." Both men had a Korean script for the play in their pockets, fully prepared to not understand a word the actors say. But who cares? They're getting to see this performance live!
Yoongi slid two tickets under the window of the small ticket booth for entrance and they walked into the grand foye. Bright red carpet lined the floors and the walls were textured with off-white paint. The room was warmly lit by a giant solid gold and crystal chandelier that hung low from the ceiling. The playgoers' English chatter echoed off the walls and the high ceiling, bringing even more excitement into the young mens' hearts.
Straight ahead was a huge rounded arch that granted access to the house, which had over one-hundred black cushioned seats. Two inward-curving staircases led to the upper house and the left and right boxes. Yoongi held tightly onto his date's small, soft hand and led him up one of the carpeted staircases.
Jimin was awestruck once they reached the second floor. He admired every inch of the theater as he looked out over the balcony. Jimin could see everything; from every head in the audience to the black velvety curtains that blocked his view of the entire performance area.
Min Yoongi admired the glimmer in his boyfriend's eyes. It was their one-year anniversary, and Yoongi had wanted to do something special for the person who had become his whole world. Jimin always talked about how he had never actually seen a Shakespearean play in person before, and today was finally his day to see one.
The men took their seats as the lights on the walls dimmed and the curtains split ways. Spotlights were switched on as soon as the audience silenced, revealing a beautifully arranged set of the inside of an extravagant European castle. A few nicely dressed men and extras walked out onto the stage. Jimin could hardly contain himself.
One of the men who was dressed in a loose royal violet shirt and tight-fitted trousers began to speak, "Now, fair Hippolyta, our nuptial hour Draws on apace...Four happy days bring on Another moon: But, O, methinks, how slow This old moon wanes!"
Watching this play was everything Jimin dreamed it would be. Unlike Yoongi, Park Jimin hardly even used his translation. Twelfth Night was his favorite piece written by the famous playwright, so he had most of the lines memorized anyway. Plus, it was too well-done for him to tear his eyes from the stage. Each and every actor and actress had flawlessly nailed their role, and the play itself was phenomenal.
From the second the cast bowed, the younger man could not stop talking. His crescent eyes were beaming due to the permant smile on his beautiful face. Yoongi could not have chosen a better anniversary gift than this.
The couple exited the theater hand-in-hand. Jimin was nothing short of a bundle of joy, thanking Yoongi over and over again on the way out. On the other hand, Yoongi couldn't have been more nervous.
"That performance was truly beautiful," Jimin said as the warm city air hit their faces. "I've always interpreted Twelfth Night to be more comedic and lighthearted, but this performance has really opened my mind to the darker side of it all."
Yoongi hummed in agreement and took a deep, shaky breath before releasing Jimin's hand. "Yoongi?" Jimin said, turning around to look at his man, wondering why he no longer felt those long fingers in between his own. He saw the dark-haired man crouching down on one knee. "Yoongi..."
The couple was directly under the theater's sign, right in the middle of all the chaos. A few of the passersby and theater-goers stopped and squealed at the incredibly romantic sight in front of them. Warm lighting from the sign and street lamps were the only thing that illuminated the two anxious men.
"Park Jimin," Yoongi began, clearing his throat and looking up into his boyfriend's bright brown eyes. "The past two years that I've known you have been the best years of my life. I know we have only been dating for one year, but I can't imagine living in a world where I don't see your smile every day. I want you to be mine forever and always."
Yoongi pulled out a black box and opened it, displaying a small, simple silver band. "I love you with everything invested in me, and I want to make it as official as I can. Jimin-ah, will you marry me?"
The noise of the onlookers were muffled; the only thing Jimin could hear were the words that came out of Yoongi's mouth. Jimin's jaw dropped to the floor and he burst into tears of joy as he exclaimed, "Yes! Yes, of course!"
Yoongi gave Jimin the biggest gummy smile ever as he slid the silver band onto Jimin's left ring finger. As soon as Yoongi was standing again, his fiancee threw his arms around his neck and gave him the tightest hug he could. "I love you so much, Min Yoongi," Jimin said under his breath before they shared a long, passionate kiss in the busy streets of Nashville, Tennesse.
