Chapter 31 ~ Hidden
Sophie's P.O.V
Sophie departed from Carter and Pheonix as she made her way towards her room through the several dark halls.
She may have been in this hideout for over a month but it was so big that she still got lost sometimes.
After a few minutes, she heard a faint grunt, causing her to narrow her eyes in confusion.
She slowed her pace and turned around a familiar corner towards the way she heard the noise
A few seconds later, she realized why it was familiar.
It was near Zach's room.
Sophie was about to turn back but then she said some faint blood stains on the ground.
Her eyes widened as she quickly followed them to lead her right outside Zach's door. The door was slightly open so she peaked to see Zach crouched over with a knife it his hand. She also saw blood dripping down from his wrist.
It was then when she realized that he was creating a big cut on his wrist.
Sophie gasped, causing him to spin around to see her. "What are you doing?!" She hissed, opening the door wider.
"Ah see you came to stop by," he said, ignoring her question while wearing a smug look.
"Ew no! I was heading back to my room when I heard you grunting in pain! What in the world are you doing?!" Sophie demanded.
He smiled as he raised his bleeding arm. "For every kill, we have to give ourselves a huge cut that will leave a scar." He then gestures to the rest of his arm and Sophie could see rows of scars.
Sophie stepped back in disgust. "That's what you were doing today?!"
"Things got out of hand, even with Hunter helping me," he replied, shrugging.
"That's horrible. You're smiling like you enjoy killing people!" Sophie raged in disgust. But at this point she shouldn't even be that surprised.
His smile dropped and he narrowed his eyes. "Just get out."
Sophie obeyed, wanting to get far away from him. As she walked away, he called out, "and soon this will be you!"
Sophie ran off, trying to shove those words out of her mind. Sure, she had completely changed since she committed to the Neverseen and had done a bunch of illegal things but she never killed anyone...yet.
She didn't think that she could ever do it which worried her if she was ever pressured to do it soon.
Zach knew she wasn't ready, she just hoped he wouldn't spill anything to Mai. But knowing him, he probably will which scared Sophie.
She couldn't blow this. She committed to this so her family and friends could stay safe back home. One mess up, and it could ruin everything.
Sophie tried to best to calm herself down as she reached her room.
She knew it was late at night, perhaps even past midnight so she changed, took a long shower, and got ready for bed.
Once she got into the covers, she closed her eyes and tried her hardest to fall asleep but she couldn't. She kept tossing and turning.
Eventually, she gave up and sat up. She let out a huge breath and looked around her dark room.
She found herself tracing Nick's name that was etched on the head rest of her bed.
She was still very angry at Mai for arranging her to use Nick's old room. But part of her did feel like somehow she got to see a part of Nicks life she never got to know while he was alive.
She wondered if anything of Nick's was left behind but everything had been cleared out.
Sophie sighed and leaned back. Suddenly, she heard a click.
Sophie jumped and realized it was something she had pressed with her back.
She turned to face back to the head rest where Nick's name was carved.
She narrowed her eyes and realized there was a hidden button right under Nick's name.
Curious, she pressed it but nothing happened. But a few seconds later, her bed started to rumble, causing her to shriek.
Sophie shut her mouth and latched on to her covers as the bed started to rise up into the air.
WHAT WAS HAPPENING?!
Sophie was petrified and once the bed rose to a few feet above the ground, everything stopped.
She was breathing heavily, shocked at what had just happened. Eventually, when she came to her senses, she hopped off her bed to see how the heck this happened.
But that's when she saw it.
Her bed had lifted up to reveal a tunnel that had been covered by her bed.
Sophie felt excitement run through her and fear.
What was this doing here?! What was it and where did it even lead to?!
Sophie quickly tiptoed over and peaked into the tunnel to only see darkness in the distance.
Sophie was about to step into it until she heard someone coming from outside her room.
Quickly, Sophie jumped up and hopped back onto her bed.
The effort it took does not need to be discussed!
She then quickly pressed the button again, causing the bed to rumble and quickly move back down.
Right when it clicked into place, someone knocked on her door.
"C-Come in!" Sophie said, still in shock of what had just happened.
Mai then opened the door and poked her head in. "What was that noise?"
"Noise? I didn't hear anything," Sophie replied smoothly, hoping Mai wasn't getting suspicious.
"Hmm I could have sworn I heard something. Anyways, where's the money you stole today?" She asked.
"Uh on the desk," Sophie replied, pointing to her right.
"I'll be taking it," Mai said, snatching all the money.
Who did this woman think she was?!
Sophie fake smiled, holding back her rage. She knew she couldn't argue with Mai.
Mai then gave a fake smile back. "I'll be retrieving the rest from the others."
"Okay."
There was something in the way that Mai was staring at her that was creeping Sophie out. Almost like Mai knew something that Sophie should know.
"Be prepared," was the last thing Mai said before the closed the door and Sophie could hear her footsteps get fainter as she walked away.
Be prepared for what?
