Chapter 13 ~ Meeting the Others
Hi!
Real quick, someone asked me last chapter for a picture of what Sophie's new hair looks like. Now, I couldn't really find a pic that really matched what I imagined but here is a pic that's close enough, just imagine the hair is shorter:
Anywho, let's get on with the chapter.
Sophie's P.O.V
"You are to do as what we say at all times— never try any funny business," Mai said. She had been listing all the rules for Sophie to follow for the past twenty minutes as they walked to wherever Mai was taking Sophie.
Honestly, most of the rules Sophie knew she would want to rebel against but Mai warned her about consequences. Besides, it wouldn't really sell to the Neverseen that Sophie was "committed" if she didn't follow most of the rules.
"Alright, we are approaching the main area. Sit down and wait there until I bring out the people I want you to meet," Mai instructed.
There was a long leather couch that Sophie decided to sit down at. She waited when Mai left her and observed her surroundings.
There was a huge fireplace in front of her that was flaming with fire. There were torches lit up along the walls that casted moving beams of faint light. The light reflected off the long glass table that was placed in front of the long couch Sophie was sitting at.
This room basically looked like a large and fancy living room.
Sophie yawned as she continued to wait. It must have been late at night but who knew. Sophie had no idea what time it was and there were no visible windows in this room to show her if it was night or day.
Suddenly, Sophie heard lots of footsteps and snapped her head around towards where they were coming from. She sat up straight and put on a tough face.
If she was going to sell her commitment to the Neverseen, she had to look and act like it.
Suddenly, eight people joined the room with Sophie. Sophie recognized, Mai, Quan, Zach, and Jay but the rest were unfamiliar to her.
"Sophie, you already met Jay but I would like you to meet the rest of the main members that you will be seeing and interacting with a lot," Mai said, gesturing to the additional four others.
A sudden thought came to Sophie that confused her. "Wait a second, I thought when we saw you last, you said it was only three of you," Sophie said, remembering that final fight.
Mai raised an eyebrow. "Sophie, it's been two years— you don't think we recovered?"
Sophie stayed quiet and when she looked away she saw Zach grinning at Sophie in a creepy way.
Ewwww!
"Anyways, here I would like to introduce Phoenix. She is our tech expert and she has lots of handy skills," Mai introduced, gesturing to a girl that only looked about a year or two older than Sophie.
Pheonix had chocolate brown hair that was wrapped up in two buns on the top of her head with pieces of her hair framing her face with clear glasses. She had a tight black choker around her neck and she wore a smirk.
Sophie waved awkwardly.
"Don't be shy. I've heard lots about you," Phoenix said, smiling and extending out a hand for Sophie to shake.
Sophie hesitantly shook Phoenix's hand and put up a fake smile.
Heard lots about you? What exactly did she hear about Sophie?
"Next we have Hunter. He's in charge of our weaponry," Mai continued, pointing to a tall and built grown man. Hunter had a long beard and a scar that went from his right eye and all the way down his face. His eyes were dark and he looked kind of scary.
"Hello," Sophie squeaked, deciding that she would not shake this dude's hand.
He just grunted in response.
Mai coughed, almost like she was trying to hide her amusement.
"Third, we have Ace. He helps us with strategy and escape and all sorts of things that will impress you," Mai said, gesturing to a young man, no older than twenty five. He had dark wavy brown hair and tan skin. Sophie couldn't see much of his face though since he had a dark hoodie over his face.
"I look forward to working with you," was all Ace said in a strange tone.
Sophie almost got chills at the way she could tell that Ace was staring intently at her. Sophie also wondered what impressive things Ace had up his sleeve.
"And lastly, we have Carter. He will be assisting in fighting, completing missions, and running errands," Mai concluded, gesturing to a kid around Sophie's age— a little older.
Carter had wavy jet black hair and chocolate brown eyes that kind of looked weird. He was staring right at Sophie and smiled. "I like your hair," he said with a deep voice, pointing at Sophie's hair.
"Oh—um...thanks," Sophie stuttered, grabbing her hair and quickly looking away.
Sophie could see Jay mouthing I told you so! from the corner of her eye.
Sophie looked back at Carter to see he was blinking strangely.
"Well, that's all. Don't get comfy or close with anyone and keep to yourselves. Only work as a team when accomplishing tasks and yeah...that's it. I expect you all to be here when we request but you are all free to leave and come back when you can—except for Sophie," Mai explained.
"Wait what?! Everyone can just leave and come whenever they can but I can't?!" Sophie asked.
"You aren't trusted yet, princess," Zach said, looking smug.
Sophie gagged. "Please don't call me that," she begged, hearing someone snicker.
"I can do whatever I want, princess," Zach replied, emphasizing the awful nickname.
Sophie rolled her eyes and turned to see Carter glaring at Zach.
"Zach, take Sophie to her special room that she will be staying in," Quan said, finally speaking.
"Oh yes, her special room," Zach agreed, grinning suspiciously.
Special room? What were they talking about?
"Follow my son," Mai instructed as Zach started to walk down a hall and Sophie noticed she had a strange looking smile too.
Reluctantly, Sophie raced after him. He went down several twists and turns and took several stairs. It was all so confusing but Sophie realized there were maps hung up around the place that showed how to get to the general areas.
Zach eventually made it to this painting in the hallway that was hung up a bit low.
"Watch this," Zach said. He then pressed the painting, causing it to pop open revealing a huge hole that was a slide that went down in the wall.
"Woah," Sophie mumbled, looking down the slide.
"Go on, your room will be straight ahead once you reach down there," Zach said, pushing Sophie forward.
Sophie slapped his hands off of her. "Get your hands off of me," Sophie hissed. She then spun around and lifted herself into the hole in the wall and pushed herself down the slide.
She screamed for her life as she shot downwards in the dark tunnel and tumbled on the ground once she reached the end of it.
Sophie groaned and once she stood up, she realized she ended up in a dead end with one door visible.
Sophie got up and made her way to the door and twisted the knob to see it was unlocked.
She slowly twisted it open and saw that it revealed...just a normal room.
Sophie closed the door behind her when she saw that it was kind of big, but other than that, it was average. Just a bed, dresser, closet, bathroom, etc.
Sophie knew this place probably had high tech rooms that were fancier so she didn't see what was so special about this one that she would be staying in.
That was until she saw the name Nick engraved on the headboard of the bed.
This used to be Nick's room.
