Chapter 12 ~ Choppy Choppy

Sophie's P.O.V

Sophie's stomach ached— it felt like her guts were being crushed and taken out. Her hair was a mess, pieces of it in her mouth which was so dry. She could even taste the dust from the ground in her mouth.

She didn't know exactly how long she had been at the exact same spot of this empty room, but she guessed it had already been days.

She was alone, starving and absolutely freezing from the cold temperatures. Her face was sticky from all the tears that had come out when she thought about her family and friends.

How long would this go on before she died?

No, she couldn't die. She knew the Neverseen wouldn't allow that. They had taken her for a reason— whatever it was.

She was going to die eventually if they kept her here. But they probably assumed Sophie would eventually give in and join the Neverseen before she did starve to death.

Of course, Sophie didn't want to make the Neverseen happy that she had given up.

But then she thought about her family. Of Sophie died, they would be heartbroken, even her friends, and she couldn't do that to them.

But if she have in to the Neverseen, who knew what they would make her do.

Unless she could somehow escape...or eventually convince them to let her go once they were done with her...

But what were the chances of that?

Well...there was Wylie. But because he left them...it costed him a terrible price.

His father's life.

If Sophie were to even think of escaping, what would they do to her?

But then again, technically they could hurt or kill anyone that Sophie loved at any time. They've done it before...

So technically it didn't matter if she joined them or not, they could always hurt her.

But what would become of Sophie? They may make her do things that she would have never imagined doing and they may tear her apart.

No, she wouldn't let them. She would be strong.

Sophie thought about it for a little more and the more she did, the more she realized she was accomplishing nothing by letting herself die.

If she wanted to see her family and friends again, she had to try.

Even if it meant agreeing to the Neverseen's terms again.

Because in the end, Sophie would rather let herself get destroyed than the people she loved.

This wasn't giving up...this was allowing the enemy to think they won for now.

Sophie tried to look up as if trying to see if they were watching her right now.

They probably were— Sophie had no doubt there were cameras in this room.

And they were just waiting, for her to give in.

And that's exactly what she was going to do. "I give up! I'll join!" Sophie yelled, or at least tried to. She hadn't realized how hoarse and weak her voice was.

She waited a second for someone to respond but no one did.

"Hello?! Please! PLEASE! I SAID I WILL DO WHAT YOU ASKED!" Sophie tried again, using the last bit of her strength to yell louder.

Sophie sat there and started to think that maybe they didn't hear her.

But suddenly, part of one of the walls slid open and a young women Sophie didn't know stepped in.

Sophie was surprised, she had expected Mai or Zach to enter.

"Miss Foster, follow me," she spoke with a heavy French accent. She had short blonde hair and hot pink lipstick and a tight black dress. She even had black shades that covered her eyes.

"I'm sorry, I would like to follow you but I really can't," Sophie said, still tied to her heavy chair on the ground.

The woman stared at Sophie, not speaking. Sophie was starting to get chills down her spine as she started the get a vibe that this young lady had power.

After a second, the woman lifted her arm and pressed a bottom on her watch. Suddenly, the bonds holding Sophie down unlocked and Sophie was free.

Sophie immediately tried to get up but her body shot in pain, causing her to stumble.

Man, laying down for a few days straight does not do you good.

"Follow me," the lady repeated, turning around and starting to exit.

Suddenly the wall started to close behind the woman so Sophie sprinted as fast as she could before it closed behind her.

Sophie caught up with her in this dark hallway, still in pain.

"So, who are you?" Sophie asked.

"I'm Jay," she replied, still looking ahead.

"And where am I?" Sophie asked.

"You shall find out eventually," Jay said and left it at that.

"Where are you taking me?" Sophie asked.

Jay stopped in her tracks and slowly turned around to face Sophie. She bent down a little to match up with Sophie's height and hissed, "SHHH!"

Sophie immediately jumped and felt more chills down her spine.

Okay, OKAY! This woman was very scary and she would not speak!

Jay turned around and continued to walk.

Sophie was silent as she followed Jay through many dark halls and corridors.

The place was huge and Sophie could tell there was so much to discover.

Eventually, Jay stopped in front of a room and opened it up, letting Sophie in.

"Woah," Sophie exclaimed as she looked around the room.

The room was was an entire fashion studio, filled with bright colors, lights, furniture, and everything you couldn't think of. Several racks of clothing lined up near the back and there were several stations to do hair and makeup and whatever you wanted.

This would honestly be heaven for Biana.

Jay then shut the door behind Sophie and started to die in laughter.

"Um...what's so funny?" Sophie asked, confused after getting the vibe that this was a serious woman.

"Your face was so funny!" Jay exclaimed, taking off her shades and setting them down.

"I'm sorry?"

"Mrs. Song was watching us so I had to act serious! You looked so scary!" Jay exclaimed, recovering from her laughter.

"Well you were kind of creepy," Sophie mumbled, her face heating up.

"Silly girl! I am the most fun girl you will ever meet! Mrs. Song does not really appreciate this side of me so I have to be all scary!" Jay explained.

Sophie stared in confusion at Jay. This was the least she expected from someone who worked with the Neverseen.

"Anyways, this is my fashion studio," Jay announced.

"Yours?" Sophie asked.

"Yes! All mine! And today, I will be giving you a new look!" Jay announced, dragging Sophie over and making her sit in some fancy chair.

"Um— what?!" Sophie shrieked.

Again, none of this even made sense. She committed to joining the Neverseen and the first thing she gets is a MAKEOVER?!

"Sophie darling, when you are a criminal you need to have a second identity! You need a disguise so people don't recognize you!" Jay explained.

"Criminal? I'm not a criminal!" Sophie defended.

Jay clicked her tongue. "I'm afraid that will change!"

Sophie then turned to look at the mirror in front of her. "So...what are you going to do to me?"

"I'm going to give you a CHOPPY CHOPPY!" Jay exclaimed, raising scissors in the air like it was her priced possession.

"A what now?! What is a choppy choppy?!"

"A CHOPPY CHOPPY means I will CHOPPY CHOPPY YOUR HAIR!" Jay exclaimed.

"WHAT?! DON'T CUT MY HAIR!" Sophie yelled, covering her hair with her hands.

She also realized she sounded a lot like Keefe.

"That's not all! I'll even dye it!"

"DYE IT?!" Sophie shrieked.

"Yes, show shush! Let the professional handle this!" Jay said, emphasizing her French accent.

"But I don't want a choppy choppy!" Sophie tried again.

"Shush shush!" Jay hissed. She then grabbed a chunk of Sophie's hair and cut it off.

"GAH! WHY DID YOU DO THAT?!" Sophie shrieked.

Jay smirked. "Whoops! My hands must have slipped!"

Sophie glared at Jay thought the mirror. "I thought you were supposed to be fun!"

"I am fun! You'll find out soon enough!"

Sophie groaned as she closed her eyes. She didn't even want to see what Jay was doing to her.

Jay first started to clean Sophie up and sent her to the showers which were so luxurious.

Then Jay continued with Sophie's hair and after a couple of hours of Jay messing with Sophie's hair and doing stuff to her face, Sophie asked, "so...why are you here?"

"Eh? What do you mean?"

"Like, why are you with the Neverseen?" Sophie asked, still so confused as to why a lady like Jay was with them.

Sophie just couldn't see Jay as a murderer

"I'm their stylist and manager! They need me for fixing up and organizing everything," Jay explained.

"And out of all people, you decided to work for the Neverseen?" Sophie asked.

"Well, it's not like it was what I wanted..." Jay said, trailing off.

Sophie suddenly became very curious. "What do you mean?"

"I had dreams...before I lost my whole life."

"Um what?" Sophie asked, feeling like she was saying the word 'what' a lot today.

Jay stopped what she was doing before she began. "It was four years ago...I was nineteen and I had a terrible accident. I got amnesia and lost my entire memory."

"What?! Oh I'm so sorry," Sophie exclaimed, wondering why she was saying sorry to this woman who worked for the Neverseen.

"Yeah, the doctors told me I had to start over. Apparently, I had a family...but when I had the accident, they took off and left me with nothing."

"WHAT?! Why would they do that?" Sophie asked, opening her eyes now to face Jay.

"I'm not sure. I don't even remember them. The doctors told me I had to start over. They told me that I had an interest with fashion and the arts and had to start my life all by myself," Jay explained.

Wow...this woman lost her memory and when she wakes up her family just took off and left her with nothing to start fresh?!

That was...

"I later did find out that the doctors were right— I did love fashion," Jay continued, laughing as she gestured around at her studio. "The only problem was, I didn't have any college degrees and I couldn't go to school because I had no money. I tried for months, searching for jobs but no one would take me because I didn't even remember anything about my life that I could put on an application."

"Wow..." Sophie mumbled.

"Yeah, it was horrible. I couldn't even go to any other family I have because the rest live in France and I don't have enough money to go there..." Jay trailed off again.

"Is that where you would like to go? France?" Sophie asked.

Jay's eyes suddenly got dreamy. "Oh yes, it is my ultimate dream to go! People here in America don't accept my kind of art and fashion as they do in France! And I love their culture and it's apart of who I am...I only dream of going there one day..."

Jay now looked a bit sad.

"So...you joined the Neverseen hoping to get the money to go to France?" Sophie guessed.

"Yes, the Neverseen were the only ones who would take me. But once I can leave them, I can be free in France where I can get a whole new start!"

Wow...that was kind of sad. Having to sacrifice being with the Neverseen to be able to get a fresh start.

"That was awful what you family did. You wouldn't be here if it weren't for them," Sophie said.

Jay shrugged. "Yeah, it's stinky but I will be able to get what I want."

"You don't even seem that mad at your family," Sophie noted.

"Eh, it's more like I don't care about them and who they are."

"You're not even hurt at what they did?" Sophie asked.

"This is how I see it. They left me to rot, for whatever reason, so obviously they weren't people that cared about me. So why should I care about people like that? I'm better off without them and I don't need to be wasting my time on them," Jay explained.

"Huh," Sophie mumbled. How was it so easy for Jay to just not care?

Sophie wasn't gonna lie, a tiny bit of her kind of admired Jay.

Sophie then gasped. "Wait a minute...you said you plan on leaving to France once you get enough money from the Neverseen..."

"Oui, oui," Jay said.

"So...that means you are gonna leave the Neverseen..." Sophie realized.

"Yes, a few people have before—"

"THEY HAVE?!" Sophie shrieked.

WHAT?!

Jay then gasped and put a hand over her mouth. "Oopsie!"

"Jay, how were those people able to leave?!" Sophie demanded.

"Um, HOW IS YOUR CHOPPY CHOPPY?!" Jay exclaimed, nervously. Starting to bounce Sophie's hair.

Sophie slapped Jay's hands off her hair. "Jay...you're hiding something. You said people have been able to leave, I thought that wasn't possible. How can they?!"

"What was that?! I CAN'T HEAR YOU! Escusa moi, I think I asked you how you like your hair!" Jay exclaimed, waving her scissors in the air.

"Jay! Answer the question, please!" Sophie pleaded.

"UMM I THINK MRS. SONG IS CALLING FOR ME! GOT TO GO!" Jay shrieked, dashing out of the room.

"JAY! JAY, GET BACK HERE!" Sophie called but that stubborn lady didn't listen.

Sophie let out a frustrated growl and sat back.

Sophie's eyes then widened in shock when she realized what Jay had done to her.

"Woah..." Sophie gasped, grabbing her hair.

Jay had chopped Sophie's hair at shoulder length with some streaks of black blended in and it was curled. She had given Sophie dark eyeliner that emphasized Sophie's brown eyes with dark eye shadow. Her lips were also painted a dark peach.

The Sophie that she was staring at right now looked like a criminal...

It wasn't Sophie but Jay did exactly what she tried to do.

Sophie could barely even recognize herself and felt her cheeks heat up with this new look. Jay even managed to cover up Sophie's bruises and cuts on her face.

Sophie then turned around and gasped as the set of clothes Jay laid out for her earlier.

It was a dark peach tank top with a black leather jacket along with dark ripped jeans and black combat boots.

Okay, this new look was seriously giving Sophie baddie vibes.

Sophie reluctantly put on the clothes and when she looked in the mirror she gasped.

Was this how she would have to dress now?! Was this the person she was now?

If only Grady even saw what they were turning her into...

The thought of Grady made Sophie sad but she reminded herself that she was doing this for them.

She would find them.

And she would figure out what Jay was hiding from her because that was the key to escaping—

"Ah, long time no see," a voice spoke.

Sophie froze and spun around. "Mai," Sophie said, bitterly.

Mai grinned. "I see Jay fixed you up well with your new look."

"Yeah, she ran off," Sophie said, still annoyed with how Jay ran off like that.

"Well, you'll see her again. Come now, I need you to meet the others," Mai said.

"Others?"

"Yes, there are more main members," Mai said.

"Wait, I thought you said that it was just you and Quan and Zach. And now apparently Jay," Sophie said, confused.

"Sophie, it's been two years. We've been getting new recruits. Now come along, it's time for you to meet them and to officially become a new member yourself," Mai said.

Hmmm so Jay huh? What vibes do you get off of her?

Does she seem trust worthy or not?

And what is she hiding from Sophie??

Oh and new recruits? I'm guessing you all know who they will be!

Anyways, we shall see what happens next.

Next update is Tuesday!
