Chapter 5: Popcorn

The McDuck Manor has been quite bustling tonight, and that's mostly because the duck kids started the movie night event. They have been planning this event for months, trying to find a perfect night to start it. They wouldn't normally go through all the trouble of planning a perfect timing for this event (except Huey, of course), but all the sudden adventures and family drama keep getting in the way of said event.

"Man, there's no way fun events take forever to start! I wanna watch a fun movie already!" Dewey complained as he belly-flopped onto the living room couch out of boredom. Watch out everyone, the Dew is bored.

Louie sighed, knowing what he's dealing with. "I know, I know, but just wait a little bit more, and I promise you, we're finally going to relax and have fun. And believe me, that's no lie!" He reassured one of his older brothers.

Huey nodded with agreement. "As soon as I'm done with my tenth schedule check-up, it'll be time for maxin' and relaxin', am I right, Webby?" He said to her while the other boys groaned from his "radical" speech. Apparently, he learned how to speak like that from Mrs. Beakley.

"Yapperdoodles! I just wish Violet was able to make it to this sleepover though." Webby lamented.

"Hey! Schoolwork and homework is no joke, Webbigail! I, for one, appreciate her drive to do as best as she can in the academic field!" Huey replied with a proud smile.

That led Louie to fake-cough loudly while saying, "Of course you do." Dewey snickered, finding his younger brother's sarcasm amusing.

Just then, a blue familiar shadow appeared behind Webby. "Hey, at least you have me." Lena said with gentle reassurance and a soft smile.

"And don't forget about me!" Betty said as she hopped onto the couch with the group.

Webby smiled, feeling touched by the whole thing. She's so unbelievably grateful for having such amazing friends and besties! She ended up hugging both Lena and Betty together, saying, "Thank you so much, guys! You have no idea how much this means to me!"

Huey grinned as he started to tear up. This is such a wholesome moment, darn it! As he checked his list though, he gasped. "Oh my gosh, I can't believe we forgot about this! We forgot the popcorn!" He screamed.

"WHAT?! How can you forget such an important item for movie night?!" Louie shouted, almost jumping out of the couch in rage.

"Hey, give me a break! Being an event planner is such a stressful endeavor, after all!" Huey retorted.

Just then, Scrooge walked through the living room. As soon as he noticed these kids though, he immediately got to work on giving instructions.

"Remember, kids, I have an interview set up here in this mansion tomorrow, so you better not make a huge mess in this mansion, or so help me-"

"We got it, Uncle Scrooge/Mr. McDuck." All kids said. They knew better than to mess with the richest duck in the world. Only Flintheart Glomgold is dumb enough to do that...repeatedly.

Scrooge nodded with a pleased smile, happy to see that they got the message, as he walked away and out of the manor.

"Don't worry, guys, I'm on it!" Webby offered as soon as he left and she backflipped off the couch and ran into the kitchen.

"I'll come along and help!" Betty added as she followed Webby.

"And I'll come along and supervise the whole process! That way, it'll go as smoothly as possible!" Huey stated as he ran into the kitchen with them.

"Alright, we believe you!" Louie called out. As soon as they all left, he looked over at Dewey and said, "How much do you wanna bet that this will not go smoothly at all?"

"I'll bet all of this week's allowance on the opposite outcome! Trusting my gut has never failed me before!" Dewey replied with his usual confidence.

"Sure it does..." Louie mumbled to himself as they shook hands on the bet.

Later, in the kitchen...

BEEP! BOOP! BAP!

"And that's how we reach the perfect temperature when it comes to microwaving popcorn!" Huey said as he inputted the supposed correct numbers for a perfect popcorn temperature. "That way, it won't get burnt nor will it get too cold! Isn't it wonderful learning how to make a perfect popcorn?"

Webby playfully rolled her eyes. Only he would be super concerned about the specific details of mundane stuff, but hey, it wouldn't be good ol' Huey without it. Plus, there are some great benefits too, like getting to eat the perfect popcorn.

"Wow... You are honestly amazing, Huey!" Betty complimented with wonder.

Huey smiled modestly as he looked down at the floor and said, "Aww, it's nothing. Anyways, all we have to do is wait now! Let's head back to the living room now, guys!"

"Okay!" Webby said as she followed Huey out of the kitchen.

Betty couldn't help but stare in wonder at them. She couldn't believe it! She's in the coolest friend group in the entire universe! She truly is lucky to be a part of the group!

She sighed in content as she leaned against the microwave. Little did she know that she is leaning against the button that heats up the microwave greatly...and a certain blue shadow is watching it unfold...

Meanwhile, back at the living room...

"So... About Dewey Dew Night..."

"I totally am not hosting a secret talk show behind anyone's back!" Dewey immediately responded.

Louis rolled his eyes. The blue triplet is such a horrible liar...

Before he can ask any further about that certain talk show, the kitchen group walked back into the living room. "Alright, we're all set with the popcorn making! Wanna watch the previews?" Huey offered.

"What, are you trying to copy the whole movie theater experience?" Louie asked incredulously.

"Well, I think it would be very interesting!" Webby exclaimed as she looked towards her blue shadow buddy. "What do you think, Lena?"

Before Lena could even say anything, Betty suddenly interjected with, "Can't we just watch the movie right away? We would be less tired for the actual event after all."

"Ooh, I totally agree with that! I want this event to explode off into an exciting start!"

As soon as Dewey said that, the popcorn LITERALLY exploded throughout the floors of the entire mansion. That took all of the kids by surprise as the popcorn crashed over them. Chaos ensued throughout the entire manor as a result.

As the kids swam out of the popcorn in the foyer room, Huey said, "Oh no! I thought my calculations were perfect! Now I'm never going to get my popcorn cooking badge!" Dewey and Louie gave Huey a gentle pat on the back in an attempt to comfort their older brother. Sure, they may have picked on Huey for his whole Junior Woodchuck schtick, but they know when to comfort him whenever it counts.

"Hey, I know this isn't your fault, Hubert. After all, your calculations are insanely good!" Louie stated.

"Yerp!" Dewey nodded with agreement. Huey could only smile as he looked at his brothers, very grateful to have such supportive brothers.

"Oh no, I'm so sorry, guys! I must have accidentally caused the popcorn to explode!" Betty exclaimed out of worry. Webby and Lena tried their best to give her a hug as Webby said, "It's alright! We all make mistakes! We're only duck human, after all!" Everyone else nodded in agreement.

Betty smiled with tears of joy after hearing that. Then she hugged back as well. After that, Lena sighed and shrugged, saying, "Oh well, at least no one else is home to see this mess."

As if Lena has a power to create magical bad timings for situations (hey, it's not too far-fetched), Scrooge bursted into the foyer room from the manor entrance. "Alright, kids, the mansion interview setup is now finished. It should be ready for tomorrow-"

As soon as the kids noticed Scrooge's shock upon the sight of popcorn littering the halls of the manor, they immediately braced themselves for verbal impact, lecture edition.

"WHAT IN DISMAL DOWNS IS GOING ON HERE?!"

Yup, they are most certainly in huge trouble now.

And to think that the following events in the future is all caused by some popcorn flood...
